NowGamer: Mass Effect 2 PS3 Preview

NowGamer takes a look at Mass Effect 2 for PS3, recently announced at GamesCom...

How is this a preview? No really. Read it. ANYONE of us could write this article. No way at all is this an "exclusive preview". It doesn't mention how the game starts, doesn't say how the framerate is or the graphics and doesn't say which DLC content it includes.

still, very psyched =D this is the only game i ever would have gotten a 360 for, and now its coming to PS3, so i'm stoked!

been playing ME1 on my MBP and it runs great! and so far its very engaging! =) i like how its a good balance between a shooter and an RPG, not too developed on either side, but put together so well (along w amazing acting and graphics) that it really creates a new experience =)

...in seeing how well Bioware has the game engine running on the PS3. On a mid range PC the game looks fantastic. If they achieve a similar or better level for the PS3 then it means that ME3 should be a treat as well.

this is Unreal Engine 3 like most of multiplatform games so don't expect any revolution
but the game will be awesome according to Metacritic

i just realised this game will be released just in time when IGN is giving GOTY awards (january), so if any trolls from IGN like Greg vote this game the GotY award i will be happy. but i have a feeling MS "bought" IGN GotY award for Halo, mark my words and bookmarks this page

I'm not talking about the gimped console version, i'm talking about dirt 2 in DX11 on PC with tessellation and shader model 5, features that will never be on the console's and yes dirt 2 pc looks a generation ahead of GT5

I hope it plays well. My brother owns the PC version, but I can't bring myself to get through it. It's...repetitive. Lol. I'll probably get through a console version though.

As much as I love PC gaming...most storylines are difficult for me to get through on PC.

gonne rebuy it for my ps3 just to see how they changed it up. ps3 guys should play the fist one some how if they can, makes it feel complete. Also, there are books that go with the series if anyone is really THAT interested and not just trying to be an asshole about a stupid system getting a game. Rememeber guys, its all about money, the systems or companies could give a flying fuck about you OR your console war.

Well, I started ME2 a week ago on 360 and it's not as good as the first. They took out a ton of the RPG elements. You no longer have to increase your electronics skill to hack things and open containers, everything is hackable by anyone, they took away the cool weapon upgrades and replaced them with certain abilities for each character and increased damage (no special ammo customization, enemy radar, increased accuracy). They removed medi-kits for healing and you use them to revive teammates and later you can heal damage with them. You no longer pick up weapons after battles, you buy them or occasionally receive them after a mission. They removed stat-based weapon accuracy also. Bioware took a great RPG and turned it into a 3rd person shooter, an RPG-lite.

It's still fun, but it's nothing like ME1. I'm going to buy ME2 for PS3 just for the trophies and added content. I like the Mass Effect universe, but I really hope ME3 is more like ME1.

I agree with you ME1 was great and I miss the weapon/stat upgrades. Hacking by anyone is lame as it takes away any mystery on what partners to take with you on different missions - in regards to electronics anyway.

ME2 is still awesome, it's just a different game now. I also liked the Mako exploration of ME1. I thought the planets were beautiful to drive around on.

On the PC, and the graphics in a few spots blew me away. Most enviroments are nothing to speak of, but the planets and outer-space areas look amazing.

When you're going back through the ship RIGHT at the start and you go through the open area and look up in the 0 gravity, you see the planet above and I just stared at it for a good 15 seconds. It looked so awesome

If I was being vague there, its so its not a spoiler. Anybody who played the game knows what Im talking about, most of them likely stopped to look out the ship as well

But I'm loving the game so much because of all the things carried over from KOTOR. Galaxy Map, own ship, 2 party members, all party members go chill in different parts of the ship..
