Why Halo: Reach Will Rule the Fall

Let's get one thing out of the way right now because I can already hear the screams of, "Oh great, another Halo/Xbox 'Fanboy' raving about Reach, just what we need to hear". Rest assured, I am neither. I own and game on PS3, PC and Xbox 360 and am an avid fan of any game that brings enjoyment while playing it. I don't care what genre it is, what platform it is played on, or who made the game. My only judgement on a video game is based on how enjoyable it is and how well it is made. I like to keep is simple. I've played Halo, Call of Duty, StarCraft, Forza, Madden, EndWar, Limbo, Portal, Resistance, Final Fantasy and the list goes on and on. So please, do me a favor, and drop the argument that I'm just some guy who can't get enough of the Covenant and who wears Xbox pajamas....

Gran Turismo is as popular as it ever has been. From GT1-4 it's sold 10 million with each game minimum. GT3 currently sets the heights at around 14 million sold. Now only ONE halo game has broke 10 million. So what franchise is more popular? Hmmmm.... And lest we forget, GT5 prologue, a DEMO, sold 5 million when ps3's install base was comparatively low.

If the headline would have read "Halo Reach will Rule XBL this Fall" most would have agreed and would have talked about how excited they are for this new version of Halo. No instead it has to start a bullshit flame war by naming nearly every gaming format and making sensationalist claims. There are far too many titles being released, like every holiday season, and two new devices (Kinect & Move) being released as well to make such a ludicrous statement.

There are so many games coming out I want starting September on that I want. I honestly don't even know which will receive most of my gaming time. Like nearly every year some will have to wait until the new year to get my undivided attention. To be honest I am more excited for NFS and GT5 but that is only because I love racing about the same I do shooters and I have yet to play a full blown GT game. The new NFS is practically a whole new game with Criterion going old school to Hot Pursuit.

I guess I wont know until I have them in hand and start playing them. <- Which in itself just goes to show how silly this article is. None of these games are out yet so how about waiting for them to be released and then decide? I cant be the only one that was waiting for a highly anticipated game only to end up not playing it or liking it as much as I thought I would.

Thats because everyone has been bought by MS to say it just like with Halo 3. They won't make honest reviews. I still think the game will be amazing but they are probably going to completely ignore its faults and overrate it just like with Super Mario Galaxy 2. Besides maybe COD:Black Ops there aren't any other FPS's coming out that will even attempt to dominate Reach from its sales.

This game is a behemoth. Its coming out at a crucial point where most of the games have either come out or are coming out shortly after...Reach has an advantage. Mid-September/Early fall release means that this game will get more people by Christmas via word of mouth and exposure. That along with the deals and special promos with Reach and you have a massive game being released to a massive amount of people who want it.

There is a high demand for this game. A high demand you don't see often with new releases- only bigger titles. This is a definitive title for the 360 indefinitely.

Its going to be in the top 10 through Christmas. Thats for sure.

If you've been keeping up with Bungie news...they & Activision have been talking about their partnership. Big deal right? Right. But when Bungie themselves say that 98% of the studio is now working exclusively on their new multiplat IP...

The animations are all the same with the exception of CQC. The graphics from the beta and from spruced up trailers for single player all look kinda unimpressive. Better lighting and slightly improved textures is not a new engine like Bungie would like you to believe...after all that's what they said! All new engine. LOL Anybody can see it's using the same engine, assets and models. Sure it's tweaked and improved....but we harp all day on COD doing this shit...why not Halo?

Jetpacks and skills are welcome....but it's still just Halo, a fun FPS with a heavy slant on looking kiddish...it appeals to the masses I guess. It did to me. But Rage, Crysis 2, Killzone 3, Bulletstorm....these games are coming, can we seriously not see the difference in visual quality? Don't give me the Graphics aren't everything mantra....we're playing FPS's, it's inherent in the design of these games to strive towards realism. Fantasy is still there....but we want real physics, bullet drop, shotguns that aren't gimped, pistols that actually are useful...and our kills to feel visceral.

Please provide a link. I've read every Bungie Weekly Update and I haven't seen them make any such statements.

I guarantee they will have a team dedicated to Halo: Reach. How much of the studio that is is really irrelevant. I'm sure whatever needs to be done with Reach post-release, will get done. If the Reach-dedicated team needs help, then they will have it from the studio.

Once Bungie is officially done with supporting Reach (not for another year or two at least), then 343 will handle it it.

Also, Halo doesn't strive for realism and it never has. The physics in Halo aren't necessarily real, but they are consistent and Halo 3 probably has some of the best physics in video games.

True that Bungie stated that CURRENTLY 98% of Bungie is working with Activision. However, when Reach releases, Bungie will not leave its community hanging after all these years. Activision WANTS Reach to succeed and for Bungie to keep the reputation of being a 'community first' developer because that will help to sell their future games.

It doesn't appeal to a large portion of gamers? Well DUH. That can be said about EVERY SINGLE VIDEO GAME IN HISTORY. The amount of people playing a certain game will always be less than the amount of people not playing that game. Out of roughly 42 million Xbox 360 owners, a few million will buy it at release. But more people will be playing Reach than are playing any other game, so your logic is flawed.

Even though it might sound weird, when a game is not called #2 or #3 etc. it will not sell as many copies as it`s predecessors.
Time will tell, but I believe in my own marketing analysis.
No offense to the halo-series. I did play #1 on pc and thought it was ok.

Why people comparing halo and gt5 thats soo dumb... 1 is a fps and the other 1 is a racing game.. Doesnt make sense at all. They both are great games and thats the 2 im getting this fall. The guy is only saying :
"exclusive" > what an argument!
"sales" > what an argument!
"no cheaters on halo" > oh really?
"the quality of servers on halo" > so there are dedicated servers now?

and the main argument stays :
"no gamer likes to be left behind when their friends are playing a new game" : this is a very sad sentence, that means that, basically, this guy is totally enslaved by the choices and purchases of his virtual friends. That demonstrates how many people are weak and can not have their own judgment. "I am buying that because my friends do, i playing that because my friends do, i am doing that because my friends do, i am subscribing each year to the XBL gold because my friends do". So sad.

Anyway, in my case, i bought a 360 to play halo3, 2 and 1, back in 2007, i bought odst too, and i plan to buy Reach as well. And i hope the game will be good, but it was never because of the sales, the hype, the friends... or anything. Just because i loved the first halo game, and wanted to play it again aside with its sequels.
