CryEngine 2 Screenshot Gallery 5 Released

InCrysis.com - Let's see, it's almost 1, 2, 3... yeah, almost 8 full months since the last gallery. During that time, lots of amazing screens and videos have been piling up at our virtual storage room so, it's about time we open up a new gallery.

Here is a yet another look on what can be accomplished by creative minds who have harnessed the power of the Crysis engine, officially known as CryEngine 2.

That's just insane, most of the screens look better than the new engine :)

Fishy Fingers5007d ago

CryEngine 3 will look better, if perhaps only slightly. The main advantage is you wont need quite such a beast PC to achieve good results with CE3. Seems more about optimizing (with console support) than out and out improvement, and really, why do they need to improve that much, CE2 embarrasses pretty much everything else out there, if you can run it nicely.

FantasyStar5007d ago (Edited 5007d ago )

I think all of the stuff achieved in CE3 is possible with CE2 if someone's willing to put the work into it. Obviously you can't have good lens-flare effects in CE2 if no one bothered to create the .png for it, but that doesn't mean that it isn't impossible. I like to think of comparing game engines based off what they're capable of, not what they have/don't have.

thorstein5007d ago

That video and the "realtime fantasy environs" leave me speechless.

Pandamobile5007d ago

All of the CE2 screenshots should look better than what we've seen of CE3 already. We've only seen the DirectX 9 and console versions of the game.

FantasyStar5007d ago

I think moving over to CE3 might be a better welcome for the CryMod community. Yeah, the stuff will look about the same and what-not. But the real benefits is the opportunity to work with DX11 Codepaths.

Pandamobile5007d ago

CryEngine 3 will have a lot better lighting too. I can't wait to get my hands on that sexy editor.

ProjectVulcan5007d ago (Edited 5007d ago )

Shows you how close we are now to true photo realism in games. Literally right on the cusp of it, with only a couple more generations of GPU performance needed to give us realtime rendering. Once the video cards break the 10 teraflops barrier (5970 is about 4.5 teraflops, peak) then i think its only down to the software to utilise it. I.e a game that pushes the limits on such a card.

10 teraflops performance is two generations away, at most. Late 2012 possibly...

evrfighter5007d ago

Completely agree with you. Though the only way we get it in 2012 is if Nvidia comes back hard at ATI so that neither one of them become lax.

SaberEdge5007d ago

Amazing stuff.

I loved this video: http://www.youtube.com/watc... It made me laugh.

This stuff still proves cryengine 2 is still an amazing engine. Wow some of those look photo-realistic.

Hazmat135007d ago

No one cares. The whole can it run Crysis is old, dead and stupid. It's also irrelevant, considering only less than one percent of pc owners, own a high-end PC. Second, I believe Crysis wasn't even optimized properly.

TheColbertinator396d ago

Crysis blew my mind back then and still kinda does.

bunt-custardly396d ago

Let's hope the modders can get the other Crysis games working in VR as they use the same Cryengine.

Bioshock still looks fantastic, one of my all time favorites.

Yui_Suzumiya468d ago

Beyond: Two Souls on PS3 can compete with modern day graphics.

SonyStyled468d ago (Edited 468d ago )

Same as Killzone 2 and 3, uncharted 2 and 3, Infamous 2, Heavy Rain, Resistance 3

jasonismoney468d ago

I wish this was entirely true, but you might want to load up Killzone 2 and Resistance 3 again.

SonyStyled468d ago

@jason I watched some gameplay videos of KZ2 and R3 on my full screen. They are on par or succeed graphically to the first person shooters mentioned in the article that also launched on the seventh generation of consoles. Try the same and see what you think

cthulhucultist467d ago

Killzone 3 was super impressive! I could not believe the graphics back then as I was regularly pausing the game to stand in awe looking at the surroundings! Resistance however did not impress me that much. Heavy rain is also another amazing graphically speaking game. It almost felt next gen

Fist4achin468d ago

I always thought the first 3 Gears of War games looked great and still hold up for today.

SonyStyled468d ago

They did for their day. I recently played gears judgement with on the 360 and the draw distance was so blurry. The characters up close look great though

JEECE468d ago

Far Cry 2 was awesome. In addition to having demonstrably better physics and AI than later games in the series, it had a lot of design decisions that, criticized at the time, have since been praised in games like BOTW and Dark Souls.

iNcRiMiNaTi468d ago

It might not be super amazing by today's standard but I thought Mgs3 looked really good

JEECE468d ago

In terms of art style it still holds up.

Can It Run Crysis? The Only Steam Deck Question That Matters

Digital Foundry: "When Alex Battaglia got his hands on a Steam Deck, this was inevitable, right? So can the Steam Deck really run Crysis? And if so, what type of optimised settings produce the best performance? What's the best balance of features and battery life... and what about 60fps?"
