I was recently watching a 64 year old computer gamer try and play “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2″ on the XBox 360. It was not any fun for him by any stretch of the imagination and turning the difficulty setting down really did not help him much at all. On the easy level he did not die quite as fast but he still died far too often to get into the fun of the game.
We could go and give players longer to react to audio and visual cues but that would just make the game too easy for the rest of us and only partly solve their problem. Instead what if we gathered each individuals reaction times for the environment they are in. Then the game could auto tune for the individual characteristics of each human instead of making the bad assumption that they are all the same.
MSI celebrates the 20th anniversary of Monster Hunter with this unique bundle that features a matching RTX 4060 Ti and game controller.
Companies, particularly public companies like Microsoft, need to grow.
i mean its pretty simple, they spent close to 30 billion in acquiring activision, they thought they'd make it bk no problem, and that didnt happen.
its just shit that because of MS's miscalculation alot of people lost their jobs.
They are going to use AI for a large portion of the game development process. Upper management need bonuses and the shareholders need more money. So, people will lose their jobs.
They shouldn't have bought any studios. Some is okay...but they went on a shopping spree...stupid
The better question is why did Microsoft buy publishers for a service they were subsidizing they knew couldn't support.
And why are so many websites trying to make people feel sorry for Microsoft instead of truly criticizing the fact they are closing studios and killing jobs that would have been fine if Microsoft themselves hadn't gotten involved.
Quit feeling sorry for Microsoft and start feeling sorry for the industry and the all the gamers who are actually losing out.
THIS IS MICROSOFTS FAULT.
The first thing that happens after any major acquisition or merger is a consolidation of the whole new portfolio, which includes cutting any excess, bloat or portfolios that don't fit the larger MO of the big boy. So far, it's been par for the course with Microsoft and that's why gamers have been so against this acquisition. Tango Gameworks is the beginning. You think Microsoft wants to pay to keep small timers like Ninja Theory in business?
There is absolutely zero evidence to suggest that Microsoft will improve any of these studios, but plenty to suggest that they will get rid of what they don't need and hold onto the IP. The real agenda of the acquisition was always to acquire The Elder Scrolls, Diablo, Fallout, Call of Duty, Candy Crush etc. that will create millions in passive revenue stream for Microsoft regardless of where the games release. Microsoft simply wants their cut.
Because of Games Pass Microsoft has no interest in investing in new IP which is risky and requires creative talent they can neither nurture nor manage. Game Pass has also not grown in the way Microsoft expected it to, even post acquisitions. Therefore the logical thing to do, without serious money makers to release, is to cut as much cost as possible.
Nvidia is allegedly testing GPU coolers to handle up to 600W for the 50 series, reigniting discussion of melting 16-pin connectors.
Well Call of Duty isn't exactly a great game to begin with for someone that's not used to console gaming. It's a very fast-paced shooter and at times can be hard to deal with for any gamer with the speed the gameplay handles at at times.
I don't really understand any of the other points. A PC gamer isn't just going to instantly pick up every trait a good console gamer has for console gaming (and vice-versa) , no matter what age they are. It takes time to adapt to the different control mechanics, visuals, sure even the distance from screen at which you play at with most consoles.
Maybe he should ask those hackers who have been fidling with MW2 code since it came out to make it in slow mo so senior citizens can play it as well. Kind of reverse of the unlimited ammo hacked servers.

COD isn't known as the "twitch" shooter for nothing. However I wonder if Gamasutra realizes how much extra programming would have to go into a game in order to recognize the reaction time. I mean you could setup a little reaction time test before starting the game but then you could fake it and be able to play through on hard no problem. This would not work out with MP at all because it would create advantages for the people who are actually slow or just faked it. I understand the principle that Gamasutra is talking about but I doubt anything will change.
More games should implement a AI Director type of system found in Left 4 Dead
If you are sucking hard, it will provide more ammo and equipment and tone down the number of enemies and spawn points, but if you're doing really well it will decrease ammo and equipment points and give more spawn points for the infected and special infected to come at you.
I'm getting burnt out on all these shooter games i just don't find them fun at all any more..what realy bugs me in some games is how there is like 20 team mates around you and the Ai only wants to shoot at you LOL wtf is that
