Maybe they should just imply sex until videogames ARE taken as seriously as movies. Maybe gain acceptance, for lack of a better word, before adding to the controversy. I don't think there are any easy answers.

Adding mature themes certainly demonstrates that videogames are not just entertainment for children. However there are those close minded people who will forever view videogames as just for children, and will see mature themes as trying to pervert their children.

Why are we trying to push an already atmittedly risque process into MORE spotlight in video games? Sure, us gamers may not care all that much, but Gaming has many critics. It's the Sony's, MS's and developers we have to worry about. These corporations are more likely to fold under the pressure than we ever will be. If the content providers stop providing us mature content because they are afraid of the backlash, and lets face it, both Sony and MS have far more than losses in gaming divisions to consider, we will be back to kiddie games faster than you can blink an eye.

Small steps and incremental victories that keep us on a slow and steady pace to where we want to go may be the best way to ultimately win.

I've actually been saying this for months. I really think a good sex scene can add alot to the story and a developing bond between characters, or break a bond if there was infidelity involved. If done correctly it adds another layer to the story. Most sex scenes in video games feel meaningless.

You all can say just go have the real thing, of course, but that does nothing for the game. I want compelling storytelling and a good sex scene can trigger an emotional response that makes the game all the more believable.

A great story is always what I look for in games and a sex scene is just one more element that can add to that story. (if its done correctly)

if using in-game assets (vs cut scene rendering) need better character modeling, face modeling, clipping improvements. unfortunately this is difficult and expensive for devs. some of the good devs can hide graphical limitations thru good design; but that's not really an option with exposed human form, is it?

Probably because having sex IRL is more socially acceptable than killing people IRL. We tend to do things in videogames that we are unable to do IRL.

Yet I agree with you to an extent. Sex as an integral, necessary part of the story is always welcome, as far as I'm concerned.

Gratuitous sex, purely for shock value, hype, and to increase the general 'spankability' of a game to garner more sales is unwelcome.

I don't know. Seems to me like sex is the only thing some actual gamers complain about in video games. Gamers are always talking about how conservatives who slander gaming are so close-minded but when they (the gamers) hear about sex in a game all of a sudden it's unwanted. I think Bioshock2 is a shining example of how to do what you're talking about. turning around and seeing that splicer looking in on the bedroom 'action' really got across how messed up Rapture had become. also there's an audiolog mentioning splicing WHILE getting freaky. kind of wonderfully horrific.
