So Medal of Honor Has the Taliban? Who Cares!

Developers Electronic Arts and DICE have come under fire recently for their inclusion of Taliban troops in the latest Medal of Honor title, including its multiplayer mode. Since this announcement, countless news outlets have hounded the development companies, stating that the depiction of an opposition force who is currently in active combat against US troops in Afghanistan is morally reprehensible and in bad taste. But the fact of the matter is that the Taliban are hardly the worst enemy faction to be included in a video game.

yea there are more important things to worry about, mainly how bad medal of honor sucks lol.

DecoyOctopus5028d ago (Edited 5028d ago )

oh i see you got the final copy of medal of honor 2 months early socomnick did EA send you it? whats that? you didnt! so you havent played the singleplayer? and you havent played the final build of the multiplayer either? thats odd how can you then judge a game based on a two map beta? and you know that a beta is only for the developers to fix glitches right and that it's not a demo and no way near the final product... and ive read your other comments you are a COD fanboy lol MW2 is a joke

theKiller5028d ago (Edited 5028d ago )

the racist, patriotic, haters, evil people who support killing others but cant stand the sight of their imaginary soldiers die(which happens every day in afghanistan by the hands of taliban)

its ok to in GTA to kill and rape and steal and be racist in the game and in other games to kill Arabs, Muslims, Russians, Koreans, Vietnamese etc but it is not okey to kill marines in even a multiplayer? the campaign mode u r killing taliban!! so thats ok? but in the online mode is not okey vise versa?

poor taliban, they didnt get involve in 9/11 in any way yet they got attacked and invaded!!

any way, they control most of afghanistan now!! and guess how they did it guys? by killing their enemies which the media hides!!

@Krayzie Bone (below)

its number 2!! because no one want to hear the story from taliban!! because they are aliens came to destroy humanity!! oh wait, i think humans keep trying contacting aliens in space right? through sending signals etc? so taliban is even worst than aliens and worst than animals and even bugs!! and of course amercians are the best of the people on the planet and those who follow them in their life style!!

Redempteur5028d ago

@theKiller

where in gta do you rape someone ?
oh that's right nowhere !!

misinformed , are you ? try again when you know what's you're talking about

Omegasyde5028d ago

Hey killer, US is owning Afghanistan since General "MADDOG" Patreous (USMC) took charge.

And any support for the Taliban is bad, even if its digital reality.

And the Taliban had direct communication with Osama, what reality are you in? Al Queda had most of their finances supported by the taliban through control of Popi fields (Heroin).

So "the killer" try opening a book and doing some research before you start hating on the U.S. Iraq wasn't really justified bu sure as hell Afghanistan is.

And yes I have been there.

theKiller5028d ago

general Patreous didnt own anybody by killing 200 civilians in afghanistan in only 2 weeks!!

he will be owning if he take control of afghanistan and thats a far dream to reach at this point!!

there is no proof al-qaida did 9/11 and there is no proof that al-qaida not working for CIA!! and there is no proof of taliban or al-qaida take money from popi fields!! and there is big events that shows it was an inside job(9/11 that is)

and if u will be telling to read a book then which book and who wrote it and whats his background?

Omegasyde5028d ago (Edited 5028d ago )

The civilian targets were a part of war. Why don't people gripe when the Taliban kills woman just for showing thier feet? Or better yet stone them to death in front of their families because they were out trying to get groceries for their family?

You really believe 9/11 was an inside CIA job? Let me guess Killer, you also believe that there was never a moonwalk either right? Global warming is lie too huh.

AND NO PROOF AL QUEDA WAS BEHIND 9/11????? ARE YOU SERIOUS? THEY CLAIMED THAT "act" THEMSELVES THROUGH COUNTLESS VIDEOS! Osama himself praised the sick bastards!

the Killer, do you even know what the current year is? Everyone is entitled to an opinion but your opinion is backed by pure ignorance. I guess its cool to be anti-american now a days?

Viper75028d ago

In war there's no good or evil, There are only participants who seek their own benefits. In this war both sides have done horrible things to each other, Americans can't even comprehend the hell some people there have gone trough.

Its only fair that we get to play with both sides, and it would be nice to get to do so on single player too. Otherwise the game is just same shitty American propaganda

1. Did EA and DICE go to Afghanistan and hang out with the Taliban so that they could replicate their weapons, clothes, and fighting style with precision.

2. or did they just make up some people and say these are the Taliban.

if they did #1 then COOL more realism.

if they did #2 then why are we talking about this again?

I still rather play as the Taliban than some animal abusing deaf mute steroid using plumber who can't keep his crack whore girlfriend away from her pimp.

RedDead5028d ago

America cares lol.

Just wait and see, cnn will be posting shit about the game offending soldiers. Soldiers will say" Can't wait to play it"

US media sucks

gtamike5028d ago

Better yet who really cares for Medal of Honor...
Bla bla was a only beta yeah yeah, but after playing the dev would have to remake the hole game for it to be good.

P.S. MW2 sucks to but we all know that ;)

sid4gamerfreak5028d ago

the US media has got their priorities wrong unfortunately...

Darkstorn5028d ago (Edited 5028d ago )

Considering the United States created the Taliban in the first place, there shouldn't be a problem in playing as a foreign ex-government. It's like fighting North Koreans in Crysis or Nazis in Wolfenstein. Hell, these days we're even gunning down supposedly malevolent Russians.

SeanRL5028d ago (Edited 5028d ago )

it's ok to gun down Russians who aren't even the bad guys in reality....

yet when you're shooting americans everyone gets pissed.

HeroXIV5028d ago

In nearly every FPS you can kill Americans anyway. All CoD games has you shooting the "good guy" as it's team based. It's red vs blue when you're shooting. There is no politics behind it.

NeutralGamer5028d ago

@HeroXIV

Real life war is also like Red vs. Blue

Americans = Red
Vietnam, Russia, Terrorist, Iraq, Taleban, Korean, Nazis = Blue

:o

/s

pustulio5028d ago

Americans just need something to bitch about.

I bet if it was Taliban Vs Russians everyone would be: Oh it's fine great game. c:

Anorexorcist5028d ago (Edited 5028d ago )

The US, through the CIA and the ISI, supplied and funded groups of Muslims from all over to fight the Russians in the 1980s. Some of these people within this US-funded group detached and went on to create the Taliban and to fight for their own drastic political pretexts.

You right-wing wackos love to embellish and embroider the facts of the situation. If you don't like America, than fine, whatever. But don't be a fanatic and hedge the facts to make you feel all nice and toasty inside.

Anorexorcist5028d ago (Edited 5028d ago )

Does any of those disagreers have the ability to form an opinion without Fox News digesting all the information for them and handing them a turd/opinion for them to stand by???

All you disagreers (fredfenster, souljah, to name a few) are like a fart; Loud, obnoxious, and full of hot air.

Hairy Chewie5028d ago

The way I see it is the US did fund, arm, and train groups of muslims to fight the Russians during the cold war.
Some of those groups did break off to form the Taliban.
The US didn't give the Taliban their political views but they did give them the skills and ability to fight for it.
The government at the time would have been naive to think that these groups would completely disband at the end of the cold war.

Now I don't think the US is completely to blame, but they definitey played a role in their formation.

fredfenster5028d ago

The reason I disagree is because your claim that Taliban emerged from the Mujahideen is false.

Darkstorn5028d ago

@Anorexorcist-

I'm actually an avowed liberal. I'm simply pointing out that the United States DID fund the Mujahideen, and that organization fought off the Russians and set up a government which became the modern-day Taliban. That period in history has been extensively documented.

rdgneoz35028d ago (Edited 5028d ago )

@Darkstorn Agree. The US funded and trained the Mujahideen to fight the Russians. Once things ended, the US left them for their allies to deal with and help rebuild the war torn country. After that, a group of the people that the US had trained formed the Taliban.

@Anorexorcist Go read some history books or (though its not the best reference in the world) look on wiki for Afghanistan during the Cold War - http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

@fredfenster (Not the best source...) http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
last part, "However, the mujahideen did not establish a united government, and many of the larger mujahideen groups began to fight each other over power in Kabul. After several years of devastating fighting, a village mullah organized a new armed movement with the backing of Pakistan. This movement became known as the Taliban ("students" in Arabic), referring to the Saudi-backed religious schools known for producing extremism." Also, "After leaving college in 1979 bin Laden joined Abdullah Azzam to fight the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan".
Abdullah Azzam: "a highly influential Palestinian Sunni Islamic scholar and theologian, who preached in favor of defensive jihad by Muslims to help the Afghan mujahideen against the Soviet invaders. He raised funds, recruited, and organized the international Islamic volunteer effort of Afghan Arabs through the 1980s, and emphasised the political ascension of Islamism.
He is also known as a teacher and mentor of Osama bin Laden, who persuaded bin Laden to come to Afghanistan and help the jihad"

Naw it could be Red vs Blue teams, and have no connections with real people at all and Fox would still bitch about it. "ZOMG games convey the color red as the devil!!!!! you can play as red team in Medal of Honor: Red Dominates Blue series!!!! OH NO'SSSSSS!!!!! Gamers are da devil!"

Omegasyde5028d ago

Darkstorm, we didn't create the taliban. We powered up Suddam, and gave weapons to "rebels" in Afghanistan but we didn't create them. The Taliban has existed for centuries.

StanRaimondi5028d ago

alot of people don't know that or try to act like they don't know

- mother of a deceased soldier.

I have to agree.

Mmmkay5028d ago (Edited 5028d ago )

as a european I'm tired of shooting germans or russians. killing americans is gonna be nice...

btw (it's only pixels... red vs blue...)

Seferoth755028d ago

You have been for years dumb ass. Who was fighting the Germans? The Americans. Now who do you play in multi player if you are not on the Germany, Russian, Japan side of things?

I love how some of you kids completely miss the point of why some people do not like it. I only hope one day something tragic happens to your loved ones and I get to play the guy who did it and relive those moments and laugh at the suffering of the people you care about.

ZombieNinjaPanda5028d ago

@Seferoth

I don't think pixels are going to affect me too much.

Seferoth755028d ago

You could have stopped at "I don't think" and I would agree with you. You are not the world. Just because it doesnt bother someone who was in no way affected by it does not mean others will not.

It really doesnt bother me but I can understand why some people would be and respect that.Having never experienced something like that myself I have no clue either way how I would feel. I just know things change when its your life and not someone else and I wouldnt be short sighted enough to make assumptions about how I would feel.

tinybigman5028d ago

as Taliban it's just a game for christ sake. i feel for the families that have lost love ones in this pointless war, but again MoH is just a game.

Omegasyde5028d ago

What if the next terrorist attack on a Western nation involved a Al Queda cell with actual taliban members?

Al Queda and the Taliban are linked together, there was a reason for the Afghanistan war.

cmrbe5028d ago

Those who have loved ones fighting the Taliban cares.

gtsentry5028d ago

wats the point of all this,if a parent walks in front of there child playin call of duty they jus keep walkin by,but fox news is making it seem like if parents pass by there kids playin medal of honor theyre guna stop and complain about the game..THERE ALL THE SAME..war,shooting,teams,i cant wait to get black ops and medal of honor

There are no "thoughtful" ads in video games, EA

I think the only type of games that can gets away with it would be sport games, having those sponsors ads on the side like on real life.

But don't put freaking Doritos ads in Star Wars or something, it breaks the immersion. If it is a pop-up ads, then big no.

Hofstaderman4d ago

EA can thoughtfully eff themselves.

Makersbreath24d ago

EA coming back for the crown of being perceived as the worst company in gaming.

Chocoburger4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

One of my favorite series is the THPS franchise, and it was packed with ads, but it didn't bother me. Posters for skateboard companies, JEEP, and Nokia phones. It did sort of fit in with the game world, but that was the past, these days ad would be intentionally intrusive or unskippable loading screen type of imagery. Ugh, I know EA would do it in a horrible fashion. Screw them.

Report: Sexual Misconduct Investigation Conducted at EA, Suspects Named and What They Did Revealed

EA senior staff has been investigated for sexual misconduct involving female coworkers, and these said people have been named publicly.

isarai10d ago

Aye just call Phil, i mean he somehow made Bobby Kotick's scandal disappear and gave him a few million dollar high five on the way out.

Cacabunga9d ago

I wonder if it will be censored with some in game ads.

MrBaskerville7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

Microsoft did, Phil Spencer played a minor part. He instigated the buyout that led to Kotick escaping all his controversies while getting a golden handshake.

Someone on Twitter calculated that the people hired in Tango and Arkane Austin could get a decent salary for roughly 17 years for the money Kotick was paid.

InUrFoxHole7d ago

Yeah some thing tells me Kotics $ was already guaranteed before MS made the deal. As for the studios... Let's be honest here... none of those studios made system sellers.

XiNatsuDragnel10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

EA about to go down like Activision and then Phil saves the day saying.this is good for the industry and consolidation will help create competition. /s.

MrBaskerville7d ago

Then they shutdown Codemasters and studio behind Jedi Survivor.

Atleast they could hardly do much damage that EA hadn't allready done. EA has shut down most of their studios by now.

ravens5210d ago

What's up with all these horny creeps. You gon be horny, fine. Just not at work take care of that shit before you go in. Rub one out if you have to. Don't be a creep at all. ESPECIALLY at work. But don't be one AT ALL.

Extermin8or3_9d ago

I mean part of the issue is that things transpired outside of work....

MrBaskerville7d ago

That's the thing he mentioned about not being a creep at all.

KwietStorm_BLM9d ago

You think deviants care where they are? Work sometimes makes it an even better situation for them because they can abuse their power.

mudakoshaka9d ago

Nerds think they are Gods when they are making video games.

NotoriousWhiz10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

"it seems that according to EA, given the events transpired outside of work between two adults, and the fact that once investigation has started that the alleged perpetrators didn’t do it again, the investigation is considered closed. [...] The victim still has to work with the people that harassed her."

Yep, EA is disgusting.

Extermin8or3_9d ago

I mean the fact stuff happened outside of work puts EA in quite a difficult position legally. These women don't seem to have reported the matter to the police which kinda ties EA's hands on what they can do. If they don't file reports of the crimes then yeah from EA's perspective it is stuff that happened outside of work. The only exception is the guy that apparently referenced things in the slack channel for work, spending on what he said proving it may be very hard and he may well be able to get away with plausible deniability. I don't like EA and I think these people need to be dismissed but without any legal action being taken, EA can't really do much without risk of being sued themselves for unfair dismissal etc.
