hmmm.. not very impressed.

@below: very sad if true :\

PLASTICA-MAN5029d ago (Edited 5029d ago )

In their development pdf, Crytek wrote that they can't use MLAA (" not compatible with their engine" according to them ), a VERY good pretext to not make the PS3 version look better ;) (remember Crytek is paid by Microsoft to make an exclusive game for them, so you can understand their relationship) !
At below: MLAA, if well coded and used, performance can be increased and not the opposite, see GOW3 case! Yes, the basic code of MLAA doesn't "remove all aliasing. From transparacies, wires, fences and stuff", because it is too general and common, but if you spend more time removing them manually you can eliminate all of them , check LPB2 interview in digital foundry about this topic (of course Crytek does have neither the knowledge nor the time to do so ;)); and please there is nothing impossible especially with The PS3 and The Cell, but when you have money issues, you can say whatever you want to fool people, like Sony when she used to have legal issues with Immersion company (responsible for vibration in controllers), when they first showed the sixaxis to the media without vibration, they tried to persuade people that vibration and motion sensing can cause interferences, and look what happened now with dulashock 3 after they paid lots of money to restore their relationship!
Truth hurts !

Shaman5029d ago (Edited 5029d ago )

Please, dont spread lies.In their official papers from SIGGRAPH(which you can find on incrysis) they said that MLAA is not picked because of high computation price(alot of it in CE3 is dedicated to physics) and in the end it does not really remove all aliasing. From transparacies, wires, fences and stuff...Their implatation is great. Its hybrid.Everything 100feet infront of you is AA with their EDGE AA,while on that behind is used temporary AA.

@below
So...im pretty sure you know how their spurs looks like?
Who told you they have spus(20ms) to spare for MLAA?Thats ALOT of ms for AA.Its expensive, with already running some comlicated physics processes and i suspect ALOT of vertex culling(something that ND spent 40% on UC2) i dont know where could they find it.
And btw,you didnt even see how it looks in game...if those e3 videos are console settings, including AA,its freaking fantastic.

edit.
Guys dont judge by that photo, that photo is their from their dynamic GI papers,it has NO AA.

shazui1235029d ago (Edited 5029d ago )

MLAA is still much better than this. It's a shame then that crytek really isnt taking the full capabilities of the ps3 into account with crysis 2 :/ dumbed-down multiplats...
@ above
ur pretty sure I know what their "spurs looks like"???
right, 20ms is when running on 1 spu. When running on 5, like in gow3, it takes 4ms. MSAA takes 5MS and is even more resource hungry than MLAA, taking more power and more time to render, whereas MLAA renders quicker and gives a much better IQ than MSAA and, obviously, this AA too. Btw stop defending crysis 2 when you know nothing about alternativ technologies, makes you look pretty stupid. Sorry if Crytek can't pull off a God of War 3 or Killzone 3 with the hardware... but u shouldn't be so butthurt about it. Theres nothing freaking fantastic about the AA used.. it looks pretty poor compared to MLAA.
Came to the conclusion that english is not Shamans first language and he doesn't understand grammar or what the hell he's talking about.

shazui1235029d ago

All true :) MLAA is amazing at some things("rivalling 16xMSAA or even better in some cases" - GOW3 devs), not so much at transparencies.

tdrules5029d ago

have one of these, you'll need it yoou delusional pessimistic fool

Cold 20005029d ago (Edited 5029d ago )

Why is it that they've never shown the PS3 version of the game...?

Shaman5028d ago (Edited 5028d ago )

shazui
it takes 20 ms GENERAL time accros 5 spus.4ms on each one,20ms is total time...
And no,english is not my first language but that does not make me dumb either. You are talking about stuff you dont understand. You have not seen their AA solution.Go to incrysis.com and check it out...check hd video and you will see much difference, jaggies are extremely hard to find. While you are there be sure to check out their SSAO implatation on both platforms and why they dont use MLAA,you will see just how much they worked for results they got.1.1 ms SSAO on 360 and 1.3ms on ps3...thats more than two times faster then Naughty Dogs 2.2ms accros 5 spus, and Epics 2ms on Gears 3(UDK informations).MLAA is compute heavy and in the end it still does not remove all the jaggies, just check out KZ3 direct feed shots from gamersyde.

Don't pretend to be an expert at what you have no clue about. You haven't done lick of research and all you can do is make up rumors about how "M$ pays Crytek" and compare two games (GoW 3 and Cyrsis 2) that uses two completely different engines with a string of words you call a sentence. Please go back to school and learn how to write before even trying to start an argument.

insomnium5028d ago (Edited 5028d ago )

Why don't you call them out by their name then? Wouldn't that be a lot easier unless ofcourse you want to make the situation seem like it's a lot worse than it is. If there are only 1 or 2 hypocrire fanboys then proving your point with their comment history would have the biggest impact on their credibility. They would look like fools.

The way you wrote made it seem like you were calling everyone (ps3 fan) a fanboy and putting words in their mouths only because of 1 or 2 idiots.

It's much easier for you to say "all the fanboys say this" or "this site is filled with fanboys" than to prove there really are fanboys who said it and run the site. If only you would put some proof in there. All it takes is a few clicks and a copy/paste. Call the real rotten apples out instead of adding to the BS this site has become.

btw why in the world did you block me?

raztad5028d ago

Late in this thread but I thought was common knowledge MLAA suits very well PS3 platform (SPUs) and when well implemented (as in GoW3) it helps to offload the RSX from AntiAliasing stuff (2xMSAA) or in the worst case the blurry sh!t called Quincux AA. I dont know Crytek solution for the PS3, but I dont think it is gonna be better than MLAA.

God_Of_Epicness5028d ago (Edited 5028d ago )

PS3 is compatible with 2 SKUs and furthemore, it has 5 cells! With MLAA, PS3 would look better! We'll see based on my calculations, okay?

convert the 50 ml of MLAA to grams of methanol
50 mL x 0.850 g/ mL = answer A =
convert answer A to moles:
1 mole of CH3OH/32g per mole = answer A/ B moles of methanol

convert 22.8L of O2 to the volume at SKU
22.8mL x 1.96 atm/27+273 = x mL x 1.00 atm/ 0+273
solve for x
convert x from mL to moles
__________mL/22400mL at STP = __________moles of oxygen

2 CH3OH + 3 O2 yields 2 CO2 + 4 H20 =/= MLAA is better for PS3.

People should be reasonably impressed crytek can squeeze some form of AA out of both of the consoles. The fact is when the generation started 360 had the edge over AA in games because of its GPU design but as it has gone on even microsoft has dropped the requirements for developers to include AA.

For PS3 titles to have AA they usually use quincunx which is dated junk as AA methods go TBH so be happy that crytek are trying to dodge the issues involved. Everyone is talking like MLAA is perfect too and easy to get right when it simply isnt, its a heavily custom filter and not something you can just 'turn on' and flip like a switch even if you have a bit of CPU performance and bandwidth spare.

As this is a multiplatform title crytek have to make two console versions both with strict performance walls and cant have their engineers constantly trying to pry enough performance out of PS3 and trying to get the filters to work at the detriment of the 360 version.

This is why you are much more likely to see top tier PS3 exclusives sporting difficult AA as the engine is built only for PS3 and nothing else has to matter....

Theo11305029d ago

too bad most people won't read this because it isn't less than a paragraph.

ProjectVulcan5028d ago (Edited 5028d ago )

I just dont know what people expect. Crytek will waffle on and claim this and that. They probably shouldnt but then they are just trying to get attention for their game and engine in a crowded marketplace. Anyone with sense sees through it because its a multiplatform game. Full stop. Period. The consoles have very different architectures and the engine can be fiddled to make it run well on both but the choices made building the engine mean there HAS to be compromises. Its not a dedicated implementation.

YOU CANNOT BUILD A MULTIFORMAT ENGINE WITHOUT COMPROMISES FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL CONSOLE PLATFORM.

Limited resources and attention split between platforms- money, people, experience and time ensure that. When it comes to anti aliasing then the architectures deal with their render pipelines VERY differently, if it was a PS3 exclusive then crytek could afford to dedicate resource or designate a small engineering team to getting the best solution but the fact is they cant and its probably not very high on the priority list on either platform. Its a low level consideration for most console games these days. Its even an afterthought for a great deal of console to Pc ports- and Pc is the one platform that has the raw performance to spare for extra filtering!

jack_burt0n5028d ago

Why are ppl disagreeing with fang, that is not a pretty video anyway you spin it, its also a crap way of showing the differences in implementation worthless waste of time.

Thrillhouse5029d ago

Looks great! Hopefully it plays great too (which I'm confident it will).

Snakefist305029d ago (Edited 5029d ago )

I dont get it They Concentrate on Graphics or Gameplay??

Its Like They Only Care Abut Graphics Not Gameplay.

Thrillhouse5029d ago

Obviously didn't play Crysis.

The whole "only the graphics were good" argument is a load of crap. I found the gameplay fun.

RedDead5028d ago

Yeah that was rediculous, people who said it's only has graphics haven't played it. Imo it's gameplay wasn't as good as some others, like Cod4 Halo and KZ2 but the fact is it was Crysis 1, they will refine the gameplay and put it up there with the best for num 2, it took Cod all the way up to 4 before they had their gameplay sorted. And obviously KZ2 is a big step over the previous one.

sid4gamerfreak5028d ago

dude, obviously you havent played crysis. Otherwise you wouldn't have said such a foolish comment

getonmylev3l5029d ago

didn't see too much of a change?

washingmachine5029d ago

nice, maybe they could give mafia devs some tips for the console port haha

What should be seen exactly? The generic and symetric level design?

I'm still learning how to look for the differences. At first I was focusing on shadows for some reason but I don't think that changes much, is it reflections that change?

rashada071795d ago (Edited 1795d ago )

It is supposed to be simulating how light actually works- so yes if light is reflecting off a surface accurately it should show reflection or an effect that matches what you are looking at in the environment. Next time you play a game look at a puddle of water there may be just a "baked" in texture that if you aren't paying attention seems like it is reflecting but it isn't. I would say though if the light is reflecting more accurately I would think that would give more accurate shadows as well.
I am still not 100% sold on it- it looks okay but I can't get over the hardware price jump for better reflections..

Taz X141795d ago

While games won't look immensely better, it opens up more possibilities overall. Understandably, the price jump is huge. But, that can be said for being at the forefront for any new technology. I'm currently using a 2080ti and while I've played a few games that enable it, the gpu also plays everything else incredibly well so it's not like you're buying this tech for ONLY that option. Enthusiasts will pay top dollar to check out the newest things, but this will eventually become an everyday consumer and by then they'll have optimized and become a lot cheaper.

warriorcase1794d ago

Ray/path tracing can be used how the developer wants it to be. Tracing can be used to calculate shadows/lighting, reflection and even audio, where audio waves are calculated on the bounce off material types to simulate enviroment and echos accuratly.

Should also keep in mind that this ray/path tracing system is different and less accurate option from Nvidias RTX branded type. McFly's is a reshade that layers over the top of the game and therefor the quality will vary drastically. For example you can see nice reflection in the Star Wars demo here but it then introduces colour clipping with the light saber. On a video of GTA 5 for example it was incorrectly projecting a reflection of a red car onto the road which caused a very faint red glow on the ground around the car.

If you want to see a good example of a game developed with ray tracing reflection and lighting in mind then you could look up the youtube video of "Control - Exclusive E3 RTX GAMEPLAY Trailer".

DigitallyAfflicted1795d ago

It supposed to add more realistic light Not actually more light effects and explosions

traumadisaster1795d ago

I hate to say it but I’m fine with fake lights, shadows, reflections. I just kind of like the effect, it’s also great it saves resources for other things.

I’ve been checking out some original Xbox games on x360/x1x and the engine has fake light streaming in through a stained glass window, and I love it even though I know it’s not real time lighting. Heck it even shifts as I move about.

I’ve about convinced my self rt and hdr just doesn’t work for me. Before hdr I would even complain damn why are the headlights killing me they are so bright.

I notice most frame rate, then jaggies, then resolution; with the last two interchangeable depending.

Other day watched an enthusiast rave over 4k and the poor guy was in 1080p. I played the same game the night before and thought wow this is clean, I wonder if it’s 4k, but knew differently and I thought wow even resolution is not always important. The next day he apologized and was surprised he could be fooled.

RaidenBlack1795d ago

EA should have released the Crysis Trilogy Remaster for this gen.

FGHFGHFGH1790d ago

How come the lightsabers don't give off any light? Even in the EA star wars game the guy uses it to light up a dark cave. I guess if it is using frostbite it will support rtx cards.
