Capcom: The King of Fighters

Capcom is, at the moment, the dominant force in the fighting game industry. There's no sense in denying it, regardless of what style of fighter you may prefer. From their popular Versus series of games (Marvel vs Capcom, Tatsunoko vs Capcom), to their original IPs such as Street Fighter, they're successfully holding a lead that most other developers would die for. But is their position really that hard to reach? Is there a secret formula to Capcom's success that no other developer can copy? Not really, it just takes a little bit a time and listening to a few of your fans to ensure a spot as number one.

Other devs do indeed need better online community support. Seems like Capcom's is the best thus far.

ShawnCollier5020d ago

It's amazing how many fighting games they've released.

Hardedge5020d ago

You mean "going to" release? :P

They only have SFIV/SSFIV and TvC so far for this generation if I recall.

LordStig5020d ago

i think he means fighting games as a whole and yea there is alot.

Blaze9295020d ago

It's just their marketing team and research at work and it's working very well for them. If you think about it, this market is currently being flooded with FPS games and just about every other genre besides fighting games.

What does that mean? A big ass opening for Capcom to take advantage of. The last Dead of Alive was released in 2005. Virtua Fighter 5, 2007? Tekken 6, 2009. No Bloody Roars this gen, Samurai Shodown: Sen sucked. etc

Capcom notices how dry the fighting genre market currently is and they are simply whoring it out while they still can. That's really all Capcom has running for them right now.

Only a matter of time before the other games/companies notice and start pumping fighting games out.

JDouglasGU5020d ago

mortal kombat should give them a run for their money, that game's getting a lot of attention.

Hardedge5020d ago

Let's hope the online's just as good, if not better.

mephman5020d ago

Yea, I've been disappointed with MK in recent years, but I'm hopefully the new one will reinvigorate the series fully.

XxBarretxX5020d ago

lol MK is a terrible unbalanced series that should never be taken seriously

MASTER_RAIDEN5019d ago

lmao AGREED! i think mk should also put out a fightstick and get themselves back in on the arcade scene! they already gave em a run for their money sometime in the 90s but over time things just went south for the mk series. people think mks dead already but ohhhh no its just been resurrected. so capcom, its been 10 years or so but mk is finally back. ready for round 2? ;)

I don't know, maybe I'm part of a small minority, but Soul Calibur and Tekken and even the old Bloody Roar titles are my games of choice in this genre.

The difference here is that Capcom developed a really good Street Fighter game while Namco's latest sequels were rather disappointing, especially Tekken 6.

RockmanII75020d ago

You might like Dead or Alive, and the 360 has a demo for it if you have one.

Eric Cartman5020d ago (Edited 5020d ago )

I like Dead Or Alive (played 4 on 360) but not as much as the ones I mentioned. DOA is similar to Tekken and Virtua Fighter, but it's lacking in the amount and complexity of the combos compared to Tekken. It's not as versatile.

What I dislike about DOA series, Tekken 6, and SC IV is their exaggerated emphasize on sex appeal.

Baka-akaB5020d ago

i dont remember any particular emphase on sex appeal from t6 .... Hell one of the new women chars is a true tomboy , and not in a particularly sexy way .

Mr Tretton5020d ago

I think Mortal Kombat is going to bring some competition. Cannot wait for that game, and I want to see some more footage, BAD

Hey Capcom I want a remake of Viewtiful Joe 1 and 2 on Switch or, maybe Switch 2. I loved both of those games on GameCube.

MeteorPanda16m ago

Good. capcom and square enix were my two favourite developers and now it's just CapCom! Square enix keeps missing the mark, their sparks gone.
