Oh the number of times I tried to complete the opening car park level. Still, absolutely classic game that set the bar for the city driving genre and paved the way for the 3D GTAs that were to come.

You know, I never touched a Driver game. Good thing you're doing these retrospectives. It's like sparknotes for games :)

It was an awesome game, i remember driving through havana and chinatown , there wasn't anything like it at the time.

startwars is right, driver 2 and the rest just didn't know if it wanted to be a gta clone or not.

I would still have mine, but one of my brothers actually traded it at some yardsale for one of the crummy og gta games, it broke my heart. I loved that game.

I still remember back in middle, when I was going to Walmart with my mom and brothers and begging her to get it. She finally caved in, a very rare thing, and I remember loving every second of it.

The only regret was that I got the game two days before the end of summer vacation.... but I still played for months to come.

Ahhhh the memories (man, I feel I like old man reminiscing and I only 25... lol)

Nice to hear someone writing about something they love for once instead of the constant whining the internet has become filled with.

Driver was truely awesome. In fact, I remember being disappointed with GTA3 when it came out because it didnt have a Burnout button. Still, I was happy you didnt get busted anymore just for speeding.

Now maybe this guy can do a write up on the brilliance that is Tenchu 1.

own heart. Tenchu 1 was THE stealth game (along wit MGS) on the PS1. I must have played the training stage about billion times alone just for the replay value and the stage music.

I had driver 1 and 2 as a kid, and that was some of my favourite gaming memmories.

I actually had a friend come over a while ago and we hooked up the old PS1 again just for the hell of it. Nostalgia like anything, going back through driver, syphon filter, spyro, MLB 99, Wrestlemania (the Stone Cold one)

After he left I was still playing Driver 2 for hours

Lol. I also started up syphon filter with it's now grainy ass graphics and had a blast. I also thought driver was the most realistic looking game at the time. Ahh good times

Yep, I still remember the trouble I had with the introductory levels. They were fun, but man were they punishing.
