Preview: Ys Seven (DualShockers)

DualShockers writes, "Many JRPGs of late have found a cozy little home on the PlayStation Portable. It seems to afford the publishers the outlet they need to get great games out to their fans, as well as keep development and publication costs low for the publisher, since many of these games are niche titles. Ys Seven is one of these, and represents the first in a line of Ys titles that will be coming to Western regions under XSEED’s fairly new partnership with developer Nihon Falcom.

The Ys games have been generally well received over the years, so this new title will likely do pretty well in these parts].....[The world also holds five dragons, which awaken near the start of the adventure and lend our heroes a helping hand by bestowing them powers to help them save the world...."

i guess all jrpg fans might aswell invest in the handheld market...since devs are too scared to take risk with HD consoles

Hitman07695012d ago

Yeah other than Square Enix and NIS and perhaps a couple of others I think you are right.

My girlfriend loves YS Ark Of Nipishtim for PS2, the precursor to this title. So I cant wait.

i like the real time battles of this,i wish other jrpgs were like this. cant wait

Chadness5012d ago

Real time battles are a mixed bag to me. Some games do it right, some do it horribly wrong. But the ones that do it right are definitely winners, so I hope this one fits that bill, too.

Played YS 8 and 9.. 8 was much better. Looking for new YS games.

jznrpg674d ago (Edited 674d ago )

I hope 10 is more like 8 or previous games . 9 wasn’t bad and had some good elements but the zones were annoying to have to clear enough orbs for points to get to next zone . Unnecessary imo. Combat was fun and story was ok but it wasn’t as good as 8 7 6 etc . It’s still one of my favorite franchises . Just bought Ys Book 1&2 on DS . I have the Turbo Grafx 16 copy also .

VGChartz's Adam Cartwright: "The PSP was blessed with multiple entries and this support continued onto the Vita, with remakes, ports, and a brand new title releasing over the course of the handheld’s life. It made the franchise a perfect choice for this series of articles, because although the series' future definitely isn’t on Sony’s handhelds at this point, it still had some brilliant representation over the past 12 years.

So in this article I’ll be looking back at a history of the franchise on Sony’s handhelds, from its origins on the PSP right through the latest release on Vita, with an emphasis on the quality of the ports to the handhelds as well as any sales figures that are available, alongside a conclusion of how well the franchise has done on the platforms."

Oath at Fhelgana, Seven, Memories of Celceta and Lacrimosa of Dana are amazing games. I adore the Ys series, and Adol is one of my favorite JRPG characters ever.
