Metal Gear Rising Lowering Barrier to Entry

To say the story behind the Metal Gear series can be confusing would be an understatement.

MariaHelFutura5035d ago (Edited 5035d ago )

"To say the story behind the Metal Gear series can be confusing would be an understatement."

Life is confusing and fun as hell to playthrough like MGS.

BiggCMan5035d ago

the metal gear solid story is complex, but it is not confusing if u play through every single game. i hate when people say its confusing. your just not smart if u dont understand it.

shoddy5035d ago

this game need to use a lot of brain power.
it's not for simple minded kids.

table5035d ago (Edited 5035d ago )

I understand the story but I still think it is confusing. If you don't look it up on the Metal Gear wiki it's extremely difficult to follow everyone's motivations and their purpose in the game. I really don't think the truth behind the Big Shell incident in MGS2 for example is that clear even after several play throughs of the game. I love it though, it's easily the best story in gaming.

MuleKick5035d ago

I've been thinking about this since E3 '09 with Kojima San saying "No, I didn't say anything about Solid Snake". And E3 '10 when he immediately handed the presentation over to Whats his name. Anyway, I believe that Kojima San wants absolutely nothing to do with this game or story. I think it all Konami's way to make the multi-platform bucks. Only way I'm buying this game is if it's Move compatible. Looks like a perfect Killer App for the Move.

Snoogins5035d ago

I'm one of those in the "Metal Gear's story is not confusing" camps, so it doesn't make sense to me how people can be confused by the lore of its universe. Of course, my two favorite franchises of last generation were Metal Gear and Silent Hill, both known for deep and complex storylines.

mac_sparrow5035d ago

Aye, Its not confusing, just requires more effort than 'space marines good, aliens bad'.

Metal Gear, Silent Hill and Legacy of Kain as faves here.

blind-reaper5035d ago

Man I don't know, I mean it is a METAL GEAR but I don't think it will feel like a METAL GEAR, I'm really worried that this game will end in the FAIL by "simplification" category. I don't want to contemplate the decay of th Metal Gear series, I already suffered that with Silent Hill, Devil May Cry, and FF. Everytime I hear that Metal Gear Rising will be for newcomers my will to buy this game decreases.

xino5035d ago

the game is a hack n slash title!
i don't mind if it has some stealth to it but it should be full hack n slash.

what's the farking point of using a sword to slash but you have to be stealthy!? farking retarded.

XactGamer5035d ago (Edited 5035d ago )

Let me guess, you're pissed because this is on the 360... right?

xman065034d ago

No, maybe bc it won't play like the previous MGS titles that fans love so much or people might not like Raiden.... etc.

Man In Black5035d ago

Was MGS2, and that was when I was much younger. Having played it recently, it's crystal clear now.

mac_sparrow5035d ago

"La-li-lu-le-lo...?!" ;

Which just seems like a codename in MGS2, and then explained as speech restriction/modification in 4.

NYC_Gamer5035d ago

well i'm not buying this cheap spin-off anyway

Hellsvacancy5035d ago (Edited 5035d ago )

Niether me, i shall rent atleast, i liked the twisted messed up, not so straight 4-ward storyline that FORCED u 2 use your brain theme of the game

But i guess they need 2 make it appeal 2 simplistic people, so 4 that reason "im out"

ThanatosDMC5035d ago

Where are those people that were saying this game wasnt a spinoff?

mac_sparrow5035d ago

Still reading my post from a few days ago and hating it?

ThanatosDMC5030d ago

Umm... i have no idea what you mean.

XactGamer5035d ago

So I guess what you guys are really saying is "I hate this game because it's on the 360"

USEYOURFIST5035d ago

some are but some are just annoyed that it keeps being reffered to as being for newcomers and not having kojima involved.
sort of like terry pratchet saying there will be a new discworld book soon i wont be writing it tho and there wont be any reference to what has come before.

i for one tho am excited for this game and think there will be injokes and a good story as they want to make it a ip of its own, and it wil have probably move support by what a member of the offical ps mag has said

IcemanHH215035d ago

Don't buy it .. its a simple as that , i dont care if snake is not there or kojima is not there(which is sorta of a bummer BUT) at the end of the day if the game is good ill get it ..
people are retarded fanboys pfff

Duke Spookem5035d ago

This will be a rental at best as long as there isn't anything else I want to play during the same time frame. If that happens then I'll skip it altogether since the story is irrelevant and Kojima will ignore it when he makes a real MGS game anyways.

Nate-Dog5035d ago

It's annoying enough to have this being titled as an MGS game. It's more annoying to have the producers say that they want it to appeal to MGS fans and then blab on for about half of each interview about how they want it to be easy for newcomers to play. It's even more annoying to know that the creators want to cut out cutscenes and focus on cutting things. But it's most annoying to have to hear about it again weeks after it was known.

This game keeps sounding crappier and crappier. I love the Metal Gear series but I'm not sure about this one.

Wolfenstein: The New Order Is The Last Of Its Kind

Wolfenstein: The New Order turns ten years old today, so we decided to play it again and discovered just how much of an extinct kind of game it is.

It's an outstanding game and so was The Old Blood. Also a lost era of gaming. Interesting, I received a physical copy of The Old Blood 9 years ago today from Poland. It was digital only in North America initially upon release so I had to import.

Wolfenstein: The New Order - A Highly Rated FPS That Hasn't Stood the Test of Time

Wolfenstein: The New Order launched 10 years ago today, but can it stand up to the modern FPS titles it inspired?

Seth_hun1d 22h ago

I disagree. Its still a fantastic game, with very good gunplay and a surprisingly loveable cast of characters and a good story trough many different and interesting setpieces

hiawa231d 19h ago (Edited 1d 19h ago )

All The New Order needs for my tastes is a this gen enhancement patch.

ChasterMies1d 18h ago

I played New Order a couple of years after launch and I give it an 8/10. The shooter holds up because it is focused on being a good shooter. There is no crafting, no RPG elements, no open world find the question mark Weapons are fun. Enemies are fun. Levels offer a nice mix of stealth and shooting. You get to be the predator; this isn’t a game about fending off waves of enemies while a robot companion unlocks a door. Most importantly, New Order is the last of a dying breed of single player shooters.

Skuletor1d 17h ago

Singleplayer shooters are still getting released every year, just look up "boomer shooters" and you'll find an an abundance of them. AAA fps campaigns, not so much.

Last year had Trepang2, RoboCop: Rogue City, Turbo Overkill, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, Dread Templar, Sprawl and more

DustMan1d 13h ago

The games you mentioned are not from AAA developers. Wolfenstein likely had a budget that was probably as big as all those games you mentioned combined. I'm not knocking the new wave of retro shooters. I absolutely love them (I think some get much higher review scores than they deserve though). I just really wouldn't describe Wolfenstein as purely a boomer shooter based on the relatively cohesive story, with cut scenes and is fully voice acted. Full set piece moments.

AA development seems to be focused keeping the single player solo experience alive. But the big developers are only concerned about the MTX and milking players who enjoy multiplayer.

ChasterMies1d 5h ago (Edited 1d 5h ago )

The age of AA shooters. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. I like less expense, shorter games.

Abear211d 17h ago

Weird all the Wolfenstein articles.

Can you guess what will be announced at Xbox showcase?

DefenderOfDoom21d 17h ago

What Machine Games did with Wolfenstein franchise is awesome. The game play definitely to me , is still very fun to play !!!
