DualShockers writes, "We’ve leveled up a few times now so we figured we’d get into a deeper, more intricate topic. This is actually a topic our winner from the Persona 3 Portable contest came up with, as well. We liked both her topics so much that we decided to dedicate a podcast to each of them. This week, then, is religion and mythology in RPGs – what fascinates people about the mythology in games, what aspects of it do we enjoy, how is religion handled in RPGs and how far is too far? All these subjects and more will be discussed in this week’s DualCast.
Have a listen to the episode then let us know what you think in the comments. We’re always looking for feedback on our discussions as well as suggestions for future topics that relate to the RPG genre, so sound off!"
Square Enix's interest in reviving its classics is the long-awaited ray of hope and the ideal chance to resurrect adored gems like Xenogears.
Seriously, I mean if anything an HD Remaster. I wish they had the balls to allow the entire story to be made, but I get the financial gamble won't all for it.
Square Enix suggested they might remaster more games from their storied archives—here are the classics we’d like to see get a new coat of paint.
I would definitely enjoy a Xenogears remaster. Recently finished Legend of Dragoon again (this time with platinum trophy) and would love to dive back into Xenogears with Fei and the rest of the crew.
Square Enix classics? dont they mean Squaresoft. Square Enix dont make classic games, just games with pretty graphics, no heart & soul, boring & over stuffed with woke Gen Z cockiness.
But while were on the subject i would love too see a remaster of Front Mission 3.
An unofficial Xenogears HD remaster is now available for download, introducing interface, sprites and texture improvements.
While there are night and day improvements to textures and assets such as character portraits and maps, contrary to the article, it doesn't seem like they touch any sprites with this romhack.
This is how remasters should look, I would love to have this game on PS4/PS5, it really gives the game new life.
A very touchy subject, but so is terrorism. I don't understand why we can have tons of games with Modern Combat this and Terrorist that but if you bring the idea of God or a higher being into it all of a sudden it's taboo.
This is a great topic and a great show, and all RPG podcast!
Various religious and mythological aspects have been present in games for a long time, but rarely do they bring as much depth to the story as they do in RPGs.
Is a real touchy subject for people - especially in the medium of video games. There are games that exist - some of the best I've played - that have incorporated religion successfully without any major issues. Final Fantasy X, for example as mentioned in the podcast, is a game shrouded in religion (yes there is a love thing going). When you look at the true meaning behind it, though, it's Yuna going to these temples to 'pray' to these deities for help, and then defeat the evil with the name "sin."
Xenogears is another perfect example of a game that focused heavily on religion, and was amazing. It's just a touchy subject to some, but I think if incorporated right in the story, it can be amazing, as past games have shown. However, nowadays games incorporate some form of religious elements in games; a priest (healer), paladins, etc. We see them all over, but since they're not incorporating the religious ideals of today's religions, it's not too much of an issue.
wow!
I always believed that when it came to lore, the FF series are unbeatable. They put so much time into it and i really like 13's with the fal cie
