6 surprising reasons why the Tekken movie doesn't suck

EX: "Now, don't get me wrong. I'm by no means implying that Tekken is a good movie, at least not in the conventional sense of the word. The acting is horrible, the writing is laughable and the story is about as bad as you might expect from a movie that's based on a video game about brawling bears, robots and patricidal Asians. "

So it's bad but not Legend of Chun Li or Dragon Ball completely unwatchable bad?

xino5012d ago

nah it's not as bad as DragonBall Evo or Legend of Chun Li.
It's on par with RE1 but this movie isn't a high budget like RE1.

King of Fighters in the other hand looks like trash compared to this. What ever movie Maggie Q is in, movie always turn out bad.

I can't believe people have seen this movie, I'll download it and watch it too. Cuz i've been waiting too long for it and don't even know if it'll be out in cinemas:/

e-p-ayeaH5012d ago (Edited 5012d ago )

So its more like the dead or alive movie?
lol xD so many bad movies being mentioned xD

Nitrowolf25012d ago (Edited 5012d ago )

is it trolls 2 bad?
where its bad but that actually makes i good cause its laughable?

Trollimite5011d ago (Edited 5011d ago )

eddie and raven were both awesome. as far as character likeness is conserned.

edit

i think chistie should have been a little more ethnic. (for booty purposes) and nina was ugly as hell. she looked like that plastic surgery cat lady.

Red Panda5011d ago

F*ck that. This movie is awful. RE1 is actually a good movie when it comes to game to film adaptations. DO NOT waste your time watching this movie. It is easily one of the worst I've seen in a long time.

ChickeyCantor5011d ago

DB-Evo was hilariously bad that it was good.
Im not watching this movie.

I enjoyed it. Was alot of fun while it lasted. They did a great job with the fight scenes and its very fast paced.

Mizz_mai5012d ago

i think the movie was AWFUL....the last fight between kazuya and jin was TERRIBLE,the only thing that made legend of chun li worse is that chun li was white....i took that personally....lol

ABizzel15012d ago

Let me be one of the few honest people.

If you like Tekken, and follow or know the characters stories even marginally then you will be disappointment of a movie.

There's too much to get to so I going to do it based off the 10 character used in the movie out of almost 50 in the game.

Let's start with the main character Jin.

Jin: First off if they were only going to have 10 characters they should have based the story off Kazuya and only did Tekken 1 - 2. But this movie is Tekken 1 - 6 crammed into Tekken 4 (yeah it's as dumb as it sounds, take the best Tekken's and set them in what was probably the worst game).

Jin is raised in the slums by his mother Jun. Jin was taught Kazuma style by his mother. And that's where the game Jin and movie Jin end. Movie Jin is a free runner (aka Faith from Mirror's Edge) stealing equipment from Tekken for a hacker.

After finding out about this Kazuya sends the Jacks (men in modern versions of ancient Japanese armor with guns) to find Jin. They find Jun who's suppose to be this master fighter and defeat her with a slap (Yes she trips one of them and the other slaps her end fight). Kazuya then orders his men to blow them up with a rocket, and Jun is dead (no Orge, just Kazuya with a rocket).

So Jin seeks revenge on the Mashima's, and enters the Tournament even though Jun told him not to before she died. He fights Law, and takes his spot in the tournament, then he and Christe hook up (Oh and I forgot to mention he has a girlfriend back in the slums who's watching him fight in the tournament, while he's trying to get in Christie's pants, but that's not important). So eventually he fights his way through the tournamnet and wins.

Now all that sounds like the movie would be mediocre, but let me crush your hopes.

Heihachi isn't the evil tyrant he is in the games. He's an honorable old man who works with his son Kazuya to sponsor the Tekken tournament. He wants Kazuya to take over, and uphold the honor of the Mashima family name. That's not enough to ruin it, well try this.

Kazuya is the villain of the movie. He's the head of security for the Tekken tournament. He wants to kill Jin, because he finds out Jin is his son, and he's afraid Jin will take his place as heir to the Mashima. It's pretty much implied that Kazuya raped Jun, as he says,

"Your mother put up a good fight, and had I known that whore was pregnant I would have killed her then."

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was never how Jin was conceived. But if that's not enough he also fights with axes instead of hand to hand. Kazuya with axes, he must have been a hidden character in the games.

ABizzel15012d ago

Let's move on the the lead female character. Let's see Jun is in the early games, but she dies. So Auska pretty much took her place, but she's not in the movie. Well Ling Xaioyu and Jin are very close in the games, but she's not in the movie either. Well who else would make a lead female character. Well none other than Christie since she plays such a huge part in the Tekken series.

I mean really, why in the he!! is Christie the lead female and love interest for Jin in this movie. And the girl who plays Christie isn't nearly as hot as these people are making her. And she has no @$$ all you see is a crack in that outfit. Now she did hold her own, and did a good job with her fight scenes, but we all no Christie would get her @$$ kicked if she ever fought Nina, but in the movie she basically owns Nina the whole 1 minute fight.

Speaking of Nina, her and Anna are Kazuya whores. They could have had 1 good scene where they both try to assassinate Jin in his room, but it's so dark you can't see anything. Speaking of Anna she's a fighter in the tournament, but she NEVER FIGHTS. W T F.

Raven looked like him, but his part and acting was forgettable.

Eddy fought Rave and lost, which was the end of him.

Marshall Law was in it and not Forest. And Law was a complete A-hole. He spit on Jin's feet. And he fought nothing like Law does in the game. For the most part most of the fighting was like a MMA cage match with a little flash thrown in.

Miguel Roho was an awful casting. And fought and lost to Jin, although the fight was decent, only because Jin went MMA on him at the end.

Bryan was great, and his fights were both good. Also his fight against Jin were one of the few that lasted over 1 minute without the use of flashbacks of Jin's training with Jun which was in all of his fights and helped him comeback from a loss every time.

Steve Fox was Jin's sponsor, and a has been.

Yoshimitsu did a good job, but lost to Jin.

Finally Dragonuv did a good job, but lost to Bryan.

Overall this movie is mediocre at best for someone who never played a Tekken game, and has mild interest in fighting movies. But if you enjoy fighting movies, or you are a Tekken fan then you will be sorely disappointment of a movie.

It's on par with Street Fighter Legend of Chun-Li. At least in Street Fighter, we got to see Chun-Li dance in a club with another woman, Bison use the same woman as a punching bag, the dude who played Lui Kang in Mortal Kombat still has it, and the fight against Bison in the end wasn't that bad, except his death.

Tekken is all over the place, and fails.

NarooN5012d ago

That was a great thesis. But I must help you out by explaining the storyline in Tekken.

In the games, it's never confirmed whether the sex between Kazuya Mishima (Jin Kazama's father, son of Heihachi Mishima) and Jun Kazama (Kazuya's lover and mother of Jin Kazama) was consensual or not, but most evidence leads toward it being consensual since Kazuya wasn't evil his whole life. His entire purpose was to find Heihachi (Kazuya's father) and kill him. When Kazuya was a child, he was kind-natured and a good boy overall. Heihachi wasn't gonna have that shit and chucked him off a cliff (literally). Heihachi's reasoning was that if his son was gonna take over the Mishima Zaibatsu after his death, he had to be a cold-hearted bastard like he was. Kazuya almost died but made a deal with the Devil to prolong his life so he could become stronger and eventually defeat his father one day.

Sometime later Kazuya meets Jun. Jun harbors spiritual powers and senses something dark within Kazuya's soul. She wants to help him and eventually comes to love him. Kazuya apparently accepted her advances and the two made love and she got pregnant with Jin. Jun trains Jin when he gets a bit older in the Kazama-style Self-Defense Karate, and Heihachi trains Jin in Mishima-style Karate. Kazuya disappears at some point, most likely influenced by Devil to find Heihachi. He finds Heihachi, the two do battle and Heihachi somehow overpowers Kaz and throws him into a fucking volcano (yes, a volcano). Kazuya is dead.

19~20 years later, Jin enters the King of Iron Fist Tournament 3. He thinks his mom (Jun) has been killed by Ogre (she's really just missing) so he enters the tournament to find and defeat this creature. Heihachi ends up betraying Jin at the end of the tournament and shoots him in the face with a revolver. Jin seemingly dies but the Devil inside of him (inherited from his father) stops him from dying, and Jin proceeds to powerbomb Heihachi off the top of his own fortress, but doesn't kill him on purpose. He flies off into the night.

NarooN5012d ago

Tekken 4. Kazuya's body has actually been recovered and is stored inside of a tube by G Corporation. They bring him back to life while researching the Devil Gene inside of him. He comes back after the building gets attacked by the Tekken Force (owned by Heihachi). Kazuya obliterates all his attackers and swears revenge on Heihachi. Kazuya enters the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4 and kicks the shit out of Heihachi.

Jin, before entering the tournament, swears to break all ties with the Mishima family and vows to destroy his bloodline so the betrayal and evil can be brought to an end. He forcefully un-learns Mishima-style karate and trains under traditional karate standards. He enters the tournament but gets captured by Heihachi and sent to Hon-maru, where he gets chained up.

Cutting back to where we left off with Kazuya, Heihachi takes Kazuya to Honmaru. Kazuya is surprised to see an unconscious, chained-up Jin hanging up on a wall. Jin awakens and defeats both Heihachi and Kazuya. He contemplates killing them both here, but hesitates after seeing a vision of his mother, then flies away after telling them "Thank my mother, Jun Kazama."

Other characters: Ling has a massive crush on Jin in the game but nothing ever happens between them because Jin is too busy with real matters than to be mixed up with girls. Christie isn't an important character AT ALL in the games. I don't know why Jin has two girlfriends in the movie. Oh, it's because it was produced by FUCKING IDIOTS. Anna and Nina hate each other (before Tekken 6) and only Anna had any real contact with Kazuya because she was one of his bodyguards in Tekken 2 era. In the game, the JACK robots (created by Dr. Bosconovitch) are huge robots, not wannabe-ninjas. Yoshimitsu in the game is a part of the Manji-clan, a bunch of modern-day robin hoods in a sense. Dunno why he was the head of whatever he was in the movie.

Hope that clears it up for all you guys.

sarlucic5012d ago

Seriously, i dont understand how people can defend that movie, its the worst movie i ever seen, the effect, the story, the acting, the fighting everything was really really bad. The only thing it had to do with Tekken was the names, but that does not matter at all, the movie is one of the worst ever made. And i've seen thousands of movies.

LarryMiller5012d ago

If its the worst movie you have ever seen then you obviously haven't seen super mario bros, street fighter, dragonball evolution or the room now those movies suck except for the room since its really entertaining because its so bad I highly recommend it.

Darkfocus5011d ago

I liked SMB it was so bad it was funny.

-MD-5012d ago

Someone asked why king wasn't in it on the imdb page so I assume he isn't.

testerg355012d ago

I thought it was ok. Its a lot better than a most of the video game to movie adaptations. I hated Jin's voice though. It sounded like he was pinching his nose. Oh.. and the chick is HOT. Did I mention that the chick is HOT?

Don't care what anyone says, Smash isn't a traditional fighting game. May as well call Powerstone and Playstation All Stars fighting games. They're more of an arena fighter /party game.

NotoriousWhiz344d ago

You don't have to care what anyone says. It's not a traditional fighting game. But it is a fighting game.

I mean what makes them an arena fighter than say something like Tekken? Because there’s platforms?

NatsuXTheMaxspeed21344d ago

because theres a bunch of pokeballs and other random stupid stuff on stage that you can use at your advantage and flying ultra super power ball that you got to chase on the stage to get your ougi LMAO.

CrimsonWing69344d ago

@NatsuXTheMaxspeed21

I mean what it sounds like is they took a fighting game and “added” unique mechanics to it to me.

When I think arena game I think of things like Spawn: In the Demon’s Hand or Virtual-On.

Smash to me is a fighting game, they have fighting game tournaments for it. It just doesn’t jive with me to call it “not a fighting game” because you have poke-balls and platforms or because it has 4 players at once duking it out.

Power Stone I’d consider a fighting game as well. Hell, if you google what it is everyone calls these games “fighting games”. So yea, they’re fighting games…

Immagaiden344d ago

What’s next, you gonna say Mario Kart isn’t a racing game?

NatsuXTheMaxspeed21344d ago

oh its a racer but its not a realistic one like GT or Forza. only kids check for mario kart and smash .

Immagaiden344d ago

I didn’t say it was realistic. I said racing game. Does Burnout not being realistic make it not a racing game?

What does a demographic have to do with a genre? Do kids playing CoD make it any less an FPS? You see how ridiculous bringing up that subject is?

repsahj343d ago

"Only kids and kids at heart check for mario kart and smash".

-fixed!

FallenAngel1984344d ago (Edited 344d ago )

Nobody said it was a traditional fighter. Everyone acknowledges it as a platform fighter

PSASBR & Power Stone are fighting games, the former being a platform fighter and the latter an arena fighter

gleepot344d ago

You're correct, it isn't traditional. It's a fighting game though.

repsahj343d ago

Because if cute and lovable characters are fighting it's not a fighting game? XD As long there's a versus fighting, it is a fighting game.

MrNinosan344d ago

Including Smash Bros in a list of fighting games, is like including GTA in Racing games.

NotoriousWhiz344d ago

I hate to break it to you but smash bros has fighting game tournaments so it qualifies.

MrNinosan344d ago

"and here's how it competes against other fighters"

No, Mortal Kombat doesn't compete with games like Smash Bros? It's a different genre for a different audience.

NatsuXTheMaxspeed21344d ago

Anybody can host a tournament in their garage it doesnt mean it qualifies.

NotoriousWhiz344d ago

I'm going to assume you're not part of the FGC. However, I am, and I can tell you that there is a ton of overlap between people who play smash competitively and those who play other fighting games competitively.

Now for casuals, there is a lot less overlap between the two for sure.

PapaBop344d ago

While technically true, Leffen comes to mind, FGC and Smash community have always had a rocky relationship.

Thundercat77344d ago

And yet, If Smash Bros was over 80 million, you wouldn't be complaining. On the contrary, you would be bragging about it.

Immagaiden344d ago

Bad comparison. You do a LOT of things in GTA outside of a car while fighting is what you’re mainly doing in SSB

Ezio2048344d ago

Given the volume of games released, I would say Tekken has sold the best.

lodossrage344d ago (Edited 344d ago )

Yeah, that's a good point. Most of these games have parts to the franchise outside of traditional fighting games.

Like for example, with Mortal Kombat, do Special Forces, Mythologies: Sub: zero, and the Kollection count?

With Tekken does death by degrees or the tag tournament games count?

With Street Fighter, are we counting all the iterations of 2, 3, and 4? how about the ex series or alpha series?

There are a lot of variables at play here

Ezio2048344d ago

Even after including Tekken Tag, they have less titles compared to all MK and SF games.

CS7343d ago

Yeah, i realized that too. Very interesting.

Tekken Characters Who Have Immortalized The Franchise

Tekken's enduring popularity is owed in part to its varied and well-written cast of characters, and the lore behind them really brings them to life.

Terry_B528d ago (Edited 528d ago )

Basically all Tekken 1 standard characters except Michelle, + boss Heihachi Mishima and maybe Kuma. Also Lei and Jun from Tekken 2, Hwoarang, Eddy,Xiaoyu, Bryan Fury, Mokujin, Jin- from Tekken 3. After that they added many more great characters but none of them used to be as fun and interesting as the fleshed out initial ones from the first 3 games. Tekken 7 was really weak when it came to new characters.

And to be honest..that "article" that does not even have Yoshimitsu in it looks like a cheap excuse to have the keyword Tekken 8 on the website.

Santouryuu528d ago

Even though Tekken 4 is, for me, the lowest ranking main line game. It introduced Steve Fox which is my favorite fighter and also Marduk was added which has a great design and ok backstory. Tekken 5 added Dragunov. Another good charachter, gameplay wise, I am not to aware of his backstory. Asuka whom was added in 5 too helped expand the lore. Tekken 6 introduced Alisa and Miguel, I find them visually pretty interesting, again not sure of their backstories. The guest characters from Tekken 7, were more like cheating fighters, I am not fond of them tbh. But I love the design of Leroy Smith and Fahkumram, also both pretty OP on launch.

DeathTouch528d ago

From the new guests, Lydia is my favorite overall.
