Top Ten Games to Play on Your Netbook: Part 2

Ripten Writes: It’s August now, and that probably means you’re heading away on holiday. Obviously, this will be a big worry for gamers like us. That’s why we were given handheld gaming systems- a way to stave off the withdrawal symptoms from being away from some sort of pixel or polygon for too long. However, handheld consoles aren’t the only thing to keep the babies off the ceiling. There’s also the much-overlooked netbook. This is the second part of a two-part top ten, the first posted yesterday.

There are loads of great games to play on a netbook. I can't wait for netbooks in ten years time that actually will be able to run Crysis.

Any computer can run Crysis in the lowest resolution possible with all the graphics set to very low with absolutely no AA.

Lies!

Seriously though, my sister's netbook can barely handle Star wars Knights of The Old Republic and that's a 2003 game (Yeah yeah, I was in the hospital a few weeks ago and I borrowed her netbook). Crysis would kill it, low res or not.

Mod that game when you're done, theres tons of sick mods that add new worlds even that got taken out of the official release. Guns and armor and characters too

writersblock - I did mod Kotor to hell back in the day, man... That was so much fun.

I was playing the 1st one at the hospital, thanks for the link though. Maybe I finally need to start modding Kotor 2.

MAX PAYNE and DEUS EX! Of course. The first MP runs just great on elderly netbooks with GMA950, the second is a tad slow but playable. Newer netbooks though all have at least GMA3100 which manage very well. If you have an Nvidia Ion netbook then you have enough performance to play even more recent stuff.

Give it 18 months tops and i would bet larger netbooks will reach present console performance for gaming, meaning they will manage console ports just fine. Nvidia are likely to at least double Ion's streams from 16 to 32 as they hit the 28nm node, which would be sufficient with a dual core atom to run the likes of the call of duties, left 4 deads, starcraft 2s and bioshocks of this world rather sweetly in HD resolutions, or at the least 1024 x 600 netbook screens.

You forgot the great Black Isle classics like Fallout 1/2 and Torment and all the great id classics like DooM 1/2 and Quake 1/2, those games take up no memory these days and hold up great!! MOAR LISTS!!!

Also, Duke 3d.
