Modded Controllers Ruin Online Gaming

Young gamers are flooding Call of Duty lobbies, Halo 3 matches, and Gears of War skirmishes and they're completely ruining everything that hundreds of programmers have spent years setting up, and they're doing it with modded controllers and lag switches.

Getting really sick of running into people that can't just play the game. I don't claim to be the best in the world at these shooters, but as long as everything feels like it is on the up and up, it is generally a very positive experience. When shady stuff like this happens... it just sucks. There's really nothing else to say. I'd love to be the best at what I do, but I don't understand how anyone can feel good about being a blatant cheater.

I don't know the solution, though. It's unfortunate.

evrfighter5023d ago (Edited 5023d ago )

xim360 ftw.

use my mouse n keyboard on 360 and ps3 :)

usually have to stop early as it gets boring destroying controller users. The more they wanna consolize fps games leaving pc gamers with a mess of a port. the more pc gamers will buy a console and pickup a xim and then...

well I'll probably feel bad for console gamers. As it means the only way to stay competitive would be to go mouse/keyboard themselves...And still get destroyed trying to learn it lol.

No joke I notice ALOT of mouse/keyboard users on mw2. If you're proficient with m/k you know what to look for when you're playing against them. They are decent (probably cs dropouts). Wouldn't consider them pc gaming quality but they do well enough to maintain a 2:1 K/D ratio.

mastiffchild5022d ago

@evrfightr-why do that? It's akin to cheating itself, proves nothing about your skill and is the first step down the road to making online console gaming as unequal and unfair as it is on PC. Thankfully most people don't do what you do or the more blatant cheating spoken of here as I stopped online gaming on PC and moved away from K/M to do so.

I got bored with not knowing if I was winning or losing because of my, or the next guys, tech, their set up, their gaming mouse and keyboard being better than mine or what options they'd used in setting up the game(tweaking options to paint enemies more obviously etc)and on consoles people were more on an even footing, same tech, same pads. It gives you pleasure to ruin that?

Then again you'd probably call me odd as I'm a better gamer in shooters with a mouse/key set up than I am with a pad(and I mean relatively to other gamers using the same thing-I'm worse than more gamers using a pad than I am when we're all using m/k)and still chose the route I have. Another thing I didn't, in the end, like about using M/K is that it's a bit too good, a bit too quick. I was, and others too, behaving in ways you shouldn't really manage and as a result, esp in SP, it became less and less immersive for me. Doesn't help that, although faster, with a mouse you're aiming on two planes reducing immersion further, imo.

Sure, K/M is the optimum for performance in FPS and no one can argue it isn't but for fairness and immersion it really isn't and can make some games a little TOO easy almost as if you're superhuman in games where, really, you shouldn't be.

Big point, though, is that K/M and pads shouldn't mix any more than people cheating shouldn't mix with the general gaming public at all. Never got why other PC gamers felt so superior just because K/M is quicker than a pad either as it never meant THEY were better or more skilful at all-just use a faster control method. Maybe if there was a set K/M that you HAD to use i'd go back to it(and avoid the "arms race" of looking for the best mouse set up for gaming just to get a little edge-it was that which got me thinking it was BS, tbh, as it really does make a difference what you use in that respect)but if more people do as you do and more people straight cheat(and, yes, you can see both types playing on consoles now and then)then it's more likely those of us who just want to see where they genuinely stand(fr better or for worse)will get tired of the whole competitive MP side of things andplay SP and co-op exclsively in future.

Wh is there such a movement among gamers to win at all costs even if it means doing so withut skill and on a playing field tilted in their favour. I used to justify things to myself after beating a decent team when using a top set up by saying they could have bought it too but even then I knew it was BS reasoning and we needed a more egalitarian way of playing. Sadly, it's destined to be ruined again by the win baby in all too many gamers. Why is it better to win by being shady than to find out if you're actually really good or not? Where's the joy and pride for you in a victory using K/M against pad players who don't have a hope? They're all playing fairly and you even say yourself that it's so unfair it gets dull yourself! I'm not digging you out, I just struggle to understand what you get out of it, why you do it and why you seem to think console gamers are to blame for the continuing "dumbing down" of the options on PC shooters. Mate, it's not their fault and , as you know, the blame lays closer to home than that. A lot closer with more cheats and more pirates in the PC game than anywhere else-just because of the nature of the ,machines and those likely to use a large number of them.

@mastiffchild

epic tl;dr

you must learn to summarize

@evrfighter

I beat almost every guy in UT3 with my DS3, even in the matches with keyboards and mouse allowed

tbh I am much more skilled with a controller than a keyboard, I bet I could take on many PC gamers with my controller, of course on professional matches I wouldn't make a chanche with a controller. I think I would beat youma too ;)(I make at least in every COD4 match a 15 kill streak, too many noobs and kids on cod4)

the problem I think is that many PC gamers have not enough experience with controllers and that's why they think it sucks, which is a shame cuz the controller has some advantages
-analog movement, you can move in any direction you want, but only 8 on a keyboard
-on a keyboard you sometimes have too look were a certain button is, not a problem on a gamepad(tough not a problem for die-hard gamers on the PC)
-on a controller there is a difference between how hard you press a button, very useful for racing games, this is completely not present on a keyboard
-and the best feature of all: YOU CAN SIT IN THE SOFA WHILE GAMING

Playerz85023d ago

I love that blatant commercial for auto burst though. So stupid.

HolyOrangeCows5023d ago

Turbo controllers and lag switches. Freaking crap.

a_squirrel5023d ago (Edited 5023d ago )

Dude, what's with the bubble system? Before you had like, sooo many bubbles

ruiner44825023d ago

Turbo buttons is really crappy. Now lag switches could be avoided if dedicated servers were used. I still don't understand why they aren't used.

MariaHelFutura5023d ago

If they have to cheat at a online game their lives are more sh!t than their trying to make yours. Just like online trolls.

blackboyunltd5023d ago

There needs to be some way to prevent this from happening? Can you get banned for this/

GameViews5023d ago

You can get banned on XBL for a lag switch since you are technically manipulating their network. They took a stand off view on the turbo controllers, pretty much saying the games should take care of that if they don't want it.

Proxy5023d ago

With a little forethought while programming the game all turbo controller exploits can be avoided. Of course, many famous game such a Modern Warfare spend very little time preventing bugs.

ASSASSYN 36o5023d ago (Edited 5023d ago )

There is absolutely nothing that can be done to stop modded controllers. Fire rate changes can be adjusted with a potentiometer to match the game's fire rate presets. Halo Reach changed the fire rate of some weapons but, I notice rapid fire controllers in some games I played.

I love the fact that rapid fire controllers only became a problem when console online gaming evolved. I owned two rapid fire controllers for my Nintendo purchased from wal-mart.

Biggunz5023d ago

dedicated servers stop modded controllers. BF2 uses dedicated servers and all weapon fire rates are determined by the server not the controller.

ASSASSYN 36o5022d ago

LOL! No it doesn't! My rapid fire works fine. Please provide the source were you heard that lie.

ya like patch s in which keyboards and mouses can be used to play games on consoles

mastiffchild5022d ago

But even that's silly. sure, if it allows only games where you use pads and games where only K/M are used but when it allows mixed matches it's a farce as anyone who's played a mixed UT3 match on PS3 will tell you. I used my PC set up, once, for exactly that and never again. I was beatng players with much more talent than myself just cos they were using a pad and I wasn't and I got zero pleasure from it.

The main attraction of console online gamng for me was the egalitarian nature of it-everyone using the same gear, same pads etc and to see people needing to win at all costs and disrupt the very BEST thing about MP gaming on consoles is amazingly sad. What they get out of it knowing they aren't playing fair puzzles me no end. I'd ban their entire access to their braodband for a month for the first offence if I could, two for the second and then ban their IP addy for a year on the third just to make the buggers stop ruining everyone's fun.

Please, can Call of Duty leave awful Netflix-style menus behind

Call of Duty games used to be streamlined experiences, but COD 2024’s UI could be another nightmarish clutter of streaming tabs.

Let's just leave Call Of Duty behind.

anast10d ago

The isn't for you anymore.

BlackCountryBob9d ago

If we’re beating that drum, can we also stop forcing anyone who wants to play only the single player to download Warzone and all updates BEFORE they are then able to do another download from the menu of the single player campaign. I don’t see why I need 150gb of downloads in several ways to play the single player mode only from a bloomin disk which should have that campaign on it already.

DefenderOfDoom29d ago (Edited 9d ago )

The UI is confusing to me because I have not purchased a Call of Duty iin like 8 years .Only bought CoD MW3 because 3 of my friends I have known since to 70s are playing zombies . But I am used it now .

smolinsk9d ago

The UI is the least of the franchise many problems these days. But yes the UI is also terrible.

Players claim Fortnite ruined Call of Duty by letting in more corporate greed

Do you remember what gaming was like before Fortnite entered the gaming space? One of the biggest arguments was about loot boxes. Now we have conversations about crossovers, battle passes, and community outreach.

GoodGuy0921d ago (Edited 21d ago )

Idk. Loot boxes did disappear and battle passes and in game purchases are all cosmetic. We get free weapons and maps post launch, any gameplay affecting content. I could care less about all the cosmetics.
I absolutely hated the days where weapons were locked behind a less than 1% chance lootbox pull where it'd take 5+ hours to have enough tokens to do a single pull and lazy remastered/remake maps cost you $15 each wave or $50 for the season pass that you didn't know what you'd get and these maps were only available to those that bought it so you get a smaller pool of players match with.

Tacoboto20d ago

The "good ole days" are actually what drove me away from COD and Halo 3/Reach. Halo 4 becoming a COD-like drove me away from that only a week or so after it launched and I beat its campaign.

It sucked way back then, going a month or two without playing online-shooter-of-the-moment, and then needing to buy a $15 map pack to play with the majority of the population or your favorite playlist. The "community" rejecting Spartan Points in MCC killed that game's support, too. No revenue = no support, plain and simple.

Cacabunga20d ago

That headline could easily be something Spencer could have said 😅 I had to check if it was really an opinion piece

KyRo20d ago

As times gone on, the COD battle pass has got ALOT worse so they can push people to buy the more premium battle pass which itself is a huge rip off and nearly half the price of the base game.

The cosmetics can be fine but they've taken it to far to the point of no return. Why make a military themed game then have rabbits, dinosaurs, cats, rats & z list rappers as skins? You wouldn't add a Lamborghini to a fantasy RPG to replace a horse and you would never see Mario have limb dismemberment because they know what they are. COD is having identity crisis but kids and streamer but then all

franwex20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Call of duty can simply not copy the bad aspects of Fortnite? Or is that too out of this world? Like COD, a realistic shooter-just HAD to have Nicki Minaj running around? Or super heroes?

Inverno20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Exactly! Trends don't all need to be followed. Plus where Fortnite got somewhat better with it's monetization, Acti got worse. Or at least Fortnite has lended itself more to the wacky stuff, and has put more effort and quality into that stuff.

jjb198120d ago

I prefer the battle passes with free maps than the $50 season pass that divided the community. I definitely feel that Fortnite had some influence on CoD having loot boxes with Blackout being introduced in 2018 with Black Ops 4.

PRIMORDUS20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Actually Fortnite bullshit ruined Unreal Tournament. Epic are sellouts and I will never have that shitty store on my PC, fuck them and that shit bag Tim Sweeney. At least the community keeps the games alive, I still play UT2004.

StoneTitan20d ago

I mean cant really blame them for supporting the game that made them the most money and the most people player...ever?

Psychonaut8520d ago

Call of Duty ruined Call of Duty. They needed no outside assistance.

Ra303019d ago

100% correct! The makers of Call of Duty ran out of ideas long, long ago so they take ideas from other games like Ghost Recon, Fortnite and any other FPS game hat had success hell CoD remasters maps that they've remastered several times already then charge you again for it. Call of Duty is simply a cut, copy and paste and then put the $70 price on it every year. Activision and now Microsoft has been essentially remastering Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare every year since it was released in 2007 its to the point it's worse than the sports game like the Madden, NBA and others yearly sports franchises.
@Psychonaut85 is spot on "Call of Duty ruined Call of Duty. They needed no outside assistance"!
