Rumor Control: Bioshock For PS3 (Spring 2008?)

The Tengu Restaurant was the site of lively conversation tonight, and like any lively conversation, there are some bits that are worth repeating

PSU learned while talking to developers at the dinner that Bioshock, the game that won the 2007 Game Critics Award for Best Action game, will be coming to the PS3 sometime in the near future.

There was positive discussion almost to the point of confirmation that this title would hit for the PlayStation 3 next spring. While there have been various sources since X06 that claimed a PS3 version was in development, it would seem not a question of whether it's true at this point, but when it will happen. Despite PSU's confidence in the integrity of their information however, PSU must emphasize that this is still a rumor, and Take Two has not officially confirmed this with us yet.

Achira; it still makes no sense to sell my 360. If I want to play exclusive ps3 games I'll buy a ps3 to go with it. Why sell it and wait till next year to play a game wich probably will be better on 360. Lolz, your logic is flawed. Most people are either console gamers or PC gamers. I for example am strictly a console gamer. I want to play Bioshock, Mass Effect, etc. on my TV in my living room. Regardless of whether PS3 gets Bioshock or not, the 360 has the games that I want to play, more so than the PS3.

You don't really have a PS3. If you did, you be ecstatic of this news, if true. I've said long before that it was still gonna be on the PS3. I even had news posts approved over this and then bashed by xbots. It is just a timed-exclusive. Of course MS tried to make it sound like it was completely exclusive. It's business. Just as Sony is putting a lot of emphasis on "UT3 and Haze coming this winter exclusively". When said like that, it is kind of foreshadowed and can be misleading. Which is good for business. Except it has been made perfectly clear about those two, instead of BioShock. MS are making sure it has at least been released before others find out that it is multiplatform. BioShock is just one more game keeping 360's selling and MS will do w/e it takes to keep it this way. I remember that podcast, gaffyh, and that was all the more reason for me to believe this. That guy's sort of "You got me in a corner and I must think fast" statement of how MS has been a real help or w/e when asked about why they won't talk of the PS3 version was a hint at how they are being kept under wraps about it. Nonetheless, I can wait for BioShock. There are so many games coming out for PS3 with a steady pace in the coming months and I'm gonna be forking out a lot of money in the end as it is.

I'd like to play Mass Effect... but we'll be able to play that on pc within a year anyway. Also, no publisher has been announced yet on Mass Effect 2 & 3 guys... Microsoft does not own Bioware, so they COULD make the 2nd and 3rd games for whoever they wanted to. However, their PS3 game is an all new title from what they've said so far.

As for Too Human... why would anyone want to play that game?! Haven't you seen the gameplay vids?! GFX look good but the combat looks horrible.

A publisher often gets to keep the rights to an IP created by the developer. FEAR is the first game that comes to mind, as does Max Payne, Guitar Hero, Call of Duty, Gears of War, and enough others to make me think that's likely the case with Mass Effect as well.

I preordered the game from Best Buy 3 days ago, and the preorder box has the only on 360 tag on it.

Anyway, I already preordered it for 360, so even if it does go to PS3, it wouldn't matter. I normally get multiplatform shooters for my 360 because of rumble. Action games (DMC4) on PS3 because I don't like the 360 controller when it comes to the action genre.

The delaystation yep you heard it here first folks might get the game just like it got Oblivion around what a year later? And even then the game was a mess since it was on the disc TWICE! And to get better loading times you had to install over 4gb of the game! Graphics were terrible though the faces, colours were disgusting.

But meh that goes for all the ports from the 360 to the PS3.

The funny thing this generation is that Xbox 360 gamers get the best first and they dont have to wait half a year to a year for a port.

Have you actually played Oblivion on the PS3. It lookes awesome compared to the 360. It is one of the multiplats that do look and play better on the PS3.

Whats wrong with installing 4GB they would have done that on the 360 if they could, it makes the game play alot smoother as Cyrodil is so vast that it was constantly accessing the DVD drive on the 360 to load new scenery, this meant jerky and clunky gameplay.. Whereas on the PS3 the game accesses the harddrive making a smoother (and quieter) experiance all round.

Further more I think you will find that most reviewers of this game will say that the PS3 version is more sharp, has better textures, fewer bugs, faster load times and overall is more polished. Just goes to show what extra time spent on tweaking can do.

It will probably be at 1080p on the 360. Always nice to have the option but I prefer 720p because you generaly get a smoother frame rate IMO. I would agree with this going multi platform just because EVERYONE needs to play this game!

No seriously there is nothing amazing about 1080p.

There is a minimal difference on a 40inch but a slight better difference on a 52inch like the ones my parents own in the living room. However again the jump from 720p/1080i to 1080p? Hardly worth it.

I knew Bioshock was coming a long time ago, but it will be sooner than next spring it will be this Winter. Mass Effect will not (for now) because it is a Microsoft published game but who cares about Too Human if you have a PS3, Too is like a rip off of every PS3 game released. It like Devil May Cry with Final Fantasy Features. Im not at all interested in Too Human because it is just like a ton of other games but Bioshock and Mass Effect is something Special. Don't Believe the Hype, Bioshock will be on the PS3 this Winter but I would have beat it by then on the Xbox 360. They are only saying next Spring to help sells on the 360 then after about a month after its release they will announce that they will have it done on the PS3 this Winter. I have a trusted source on this.

I have a friend who is a huge xbox fanboy come up to me and say why dont you get an xbox it's better.

I told him straight out, your not going the convince me MS has already convinced me not to go to the system.

There are simply ONLY an handful of games that I am interested on the platform, and guess what most of them can either be found on the PC (I have pretty decent pc x1950's crossfired) or the ps3. Even the famed gears of war is coming on PC. Then he would bring up the MS live argument, and the ease of use.

As a long time PC gamer I already know the ropes of establishing a multiplayer session on PC, so its not as difficult as Most xbox fanboys make it is.

So in my mind the only true worthy exclusive now is halo 3, but I'm not a halo fan so that is just another nail in the coffin.

Maybe ill pick up an xbox if they 1) fix the reliablility issue 2) play it for the racing games. But GT5 is floating around the corner for ps3, so that might be a good alternative.

Take 2`s financial status does make sense for a PS3 version regardless. Their company history points to a time exclusive too. As for the other rumor they posted about Sony buying Rockstar, i don`t think it will happen because it would be to expensive for Sony, and i don`t see Take2 selling the number one income.

Bioshock will not have the same effect it will have on the xbox 360 then it will have if released 6 months later on the PS3. I agree with most you said. Fanboys from both sides will still see it as a betrayal though when one of their exclusive game switch sides.

For companies though it`s about maximizing their profits, getting payed for a time exclusive by one company, and when the contract expires they port it to other consoles to get the players that didn`t pick up the console to play it, but now will buy it, as it`s now on their own console.

I can`t comment on Oblivion, as i havn`t seen sales numbers for it on either machine, but companies do make such ports because they make money, unless it wouldn`t be any sense of them doing that either wouldn`t it (i guess it can happen because they get payed by the other company or just wants to try to make a game for that console too in some cases, but it`s most about the money). After all, the GTA games and Splinter Cell came to Xbox and PS2 after an exclusive period on their consoles too.

It still means you should pick up Bioshock on PC or 360, if you want to play it. I`ll pick up a PS3 to play MGS4 on day one, so i couldn`t care less if it came to 360 a year later, as you said. That dosn`t mean people with a 360, would say the same if it happen. I do think it would still sell more on the first place it came out as you said though (maybe UT3 will sell better on 360 when it`s out though, but we`ll see)

the thing that gets me the most is that people sit on either side and dont see what their missing out on from each system, ive always been a PS fan(not fanboy)and i didnt give the first XBOX a chance and when i look back it was wrong cause it was a great system. now in this gen i told myself i wouldnt do that and i went out and bought a 360. dont get me wrong there are somethings that i wish they had changed about the 360 like 1 i wish they didnt rush the system and made it better 2 its not as user friendly as i thought it would be 3 no web browser. but in all its a great system and has a ton of good games for alot of people.

Right now im planning on buying a PS3 in a few week(60GB hopefully i find one left) because theres a lot of things about the PS3 that i like and a lot of AAA titles are coming out starting out at the end of this month. and right now is a great time to pick one up anyway but just like the 360 there some stuff that needs to be changed bout the PS3 1 like they need a better update(the last one was good but we need in game XMB) 2 they should have made a PS3 with no Blu-ray player in it it would have sold alot more but i understand why they didnt do that 3 better launch title would have been nice(Resistance was great).

I agree with most of what you said.

my reasons for getting a PS3 last month
a) PS3 is not going to drop beyond 499 for some time(atleast 5 months maybe more)
b) there were a bunch of good games and a lot of promising ones
c) I never had a PS2 and now I can get a load of old games with good gameplay cheap on ebay (like Ratchet & Clank!!!, God of War)
d) 60 gigs is fine for what PSN has to offer now. replace with a much bigger HDD later on.

For now, more than even Cell, I think Blu Ray is a very important feature of PS3 as much as unified shader arch and unified memory is to 360, it will help it last longer and set game devs free to some extent.

As for 360 browser, that is the last thing I want on that noisy machine.

I agree with you on that Blu-ray is very important for devs, just look at what ID has to do for the 360 they have to put games on two disc and that is really last gen. MS should have looked deeper into the future and put in a HD-DVD player built in and one with out. it will pay off for SONY in the long run. LOL yea the 360 is a noisy ass beast and it over heats like a mother lol(i know mine does i just hope to god it doesnt break down on me).

I was just saying that by Ps3Fanboy777's logic MGS4 would be coming to the 360. u say ps3 cant handle the graphics of bioshock? what are u high? the ps3 has better graphics than the 360s .. u obviously havnt heard the team behind gears of ear saying that the 360s graphics are limited and were basically reached with gears of war (1) and cant get much better .. while Unreal Tourny 3 plays and looks better visually then gears of war ... and the team is Sony exclusive so the ps3 versions will be the best (including better graphics) .. the graphics war is easily over for this generation ... This is the only game, maybe Mass Effect also, but especially this game that made me a little jealous of the 360. I've been following this game, I love the underwater green effects/graphics!! I really hope this game does come to the PS3. I think with all the hype of Halo 3 has kind of hurt Bioshock because it has been relatively low key despite all the positive previews and sales might not be as strong as it should be. Hopefully, this game will come to the PS3, makes good business sense as it will sell more copies overall.

I mean, it's already on PC, and it was in development for PS3 before it was 'canceled' (aka delayed via MS moneyhat), and no one said it would NEVER come to PS3, like Phil Harrison said about MGS4 (to 360).

Also, about MGS online, it's on the same engine as MGS4, which is only possible on PS3, so that's exclusive too.

I accidentally posted this under the wrong thread(stupid Firefox tabs), thankfully a Bioshock on though, my impressions:

The developers only ever stated that it was LAUNCHING exclusively on Xbox 360 and PC, I know it's a stretch, but they never actually said " it isn't in progress and never will be for PS3". Whereas Konami/Kojima did say this, MGS4 is exclusive to the PS3, without a doubt. But, of course(I know "stretching it"), 2K left room for doubt with their statement.

Not to mention the interesting fact that it was in development for PS3, before 360 mind you, then announced for 360/PC, and then just abruptly "halted" on PS3.

I just find that interesting, in the end it doesn't matter as I will have it for my **NEW** 360 which arrived today. I just don't think it's right to squash PS3 owners(me included) for even saying that it's a possibility, which by all means it is, just don't expect to see it soon(like Sunday's "announcement")
