Enslaved Got A lot Right That Heavenly Sword Didn’t Says Ninja Theory

Before there was Enslaved, you had Heavenly Sword. A game developed by Ninja Theory and owned by Sony. Now, though, the focus is all on Monkey and his companion Trip. According to Ninja Theory, the studio developing the game, Enslaved: Odyssey To The West got a lot right that Heavenly Sword didn’t.

The only thing that they got wrong on Heavenly Sword was it's length. Heavenly Sword is one of the best games this generation, but it was way to short.

If they topped HS, I'll be very impressed. Just dont make another 6 hour game.

Petro5037d ago

Cinematics in Heavenly Sword were awesome and I could have watched those all day long... It's just pity that the game was so short.

spunnups5037d ago

HS had the best cinematics until Uncharted 2 came out, they are that good.

princejb1345037d ago

the game was excellent
the only thing that dissapoints them is the sales

MuleKick5037d ago

Okay, so Enslaved was a day one buy for me. I loved Heavenly Sword. Based on that and the trailers I was all in. But now, these crying bunch of pu$$ies pissed me off. Okay, you didn't sell a kajillion copies but shit, the fans loved your game. All we asked for was a trophy patch. It can't be that hard. And I'm sure more sales would have come with the patch. Trophy whores are everywhere. (myself included).
Simply put, look at Uncharted. The trophy patch was the icing on the cake.

UnSelf5037d ago

i never seen such a pair of devs bash their own IP like these guys seem to do every other day

Blaze9295037d ago (Edited 5037d ago )

Yeah exactly. It's weird. They must be REALLY sour at the fact that they made no money off Heavenly Sword

PS3Freak5037d ago

They just need to stop already.

mastiffchild5037d ago

But if Sony hadn't stepped in and funded it after it failed under their own guidance to appear on(IIRC) the original Xbox they would have done a lot worse than just not making a great profit wouldn't they?

The way I heard it told, by someone who worried with someone who used to be at NT, was a gross tale of mismanaged funds and aimless directors and developers. Without Sony stepping in it could well have all gone to waste.

that said the HS universe REALLY could spawn more games and if Sony make a Move patch and trophies who's to say HS can't have a rebirth and mae NT some money eventually? Certainly, I think it's game, like Lair, crying out for being retooled in this way and maybe sold slightly cheaper than usual retail. Maybe even other underappreciated and under sold because of the small launch user base type games could also benefit like this be they exclusives like Folklore(the Sixaxis stuff was good so think how you could play with full motion controls!)and multis like Dark Sector(motion controlled Glaives? Count me back in, Blade stylee!).

Whatever, HS was a god game hampered by a few tight reviews who seemed to imply that PS3 titles had to be made of platinum and play ike Gd was directing. A lot of people also tried the demo and without decent explanation didn't find the depth or understand the combat. There's a lot more there than most who played just the demo think there is-ask anyone who actually played the game-there was loads of depth and tactics to the fighting and because no one pointed this out to use in the painfully short demo a lot of people thought it was vanilla H/S when it was a lot, lot more.

Way too short though, no matter what anyone tells you.

Redlogic5037d ago (Edited 5037d ago )

seriously dude...I only clicked on this link to see who was complaining this time and partly because I knew it would be Ninja Theory. What I don't get is why they continue to bash what I (and a decent lot of people) thought was a good game with a few flaws. Are they kissing up to the Xbox fanboys since their first game was a ps3 exclusive? Sure seems like it

Edit: didn't their game sell reasonably well? At least close to Heavy Rain right?

nycredude5037d ago

One more word about HS from this company and they can forget about 1 sales for their new game. Just stfu already! I loved Heavenly Sword! It was a good game, albeit short but so what! That only makes it more replayable.

nycredude5037d ago

They lost their marbles or something. I need to play HS again just to see wtf they are talking about!

Simon_Brezhnev5037d ago

yeah im with u nycredude im sick of them bashing their own game if this game does not become superior to heavenly sword in every aspect im not buyin it.

NecrumSlavery5037d ago (Edited 5037d ago )

This game is looks good, but Heavenly Sword was awesome. Ninja Theory is the whiniest bunch of bitches in the industry today. They never supported their game and it still sold over a mil and a half. Ever thought a simple trophy patch idiots? I hope Santa Monica runs with HS2. Ninja Theory's tween emo attitude just makes me not want to buy Enslaved.

Dear NT,
I bought HS btw you idiots.

fantasygamer5037d ago (Edited 5037d ago )

I agree with you, Ninja Theory need to stop crying.. an Heavenly Sword is a great IP that Santa Monica could probably make even better. ^.^

CaptainMarvelQ85037d ago (Edited 5037d ago )

i believe that they didn't support it because the game "didn't get them any profit"
as they stated in an interview

jack_burt0n5037d ago

saying your game got alot right b4 its released..... what the f**k is up with that.

The last six months of NT

"Whine----hype----whine- ----hype-----whine"

Shut the F**k up and start reading N4G, get a gauge on how ppl are feeling about ur PR.

Elvfam5115037d ago

Wow they really do sh!t on their own game alot...

Baka-akaB5037d ago

Seriously , it's not enough to boycott a game for me , but it's tiresome to hear them claim their previous game was "basically shit" .

Heavenly sword was a poretty good game , it was ignored because of it's lenght , when ironically following titles of the genre this gen , didnt even try to last really longer .

It had a refreshing and great heroin , with a really great story .

It was one of those "the ps3 is crap and got no game" launch year campaign victims . HAd it been released later on , i'm sure it would have been more popular ... and hell it sold 1.5 million .

Stop pretending that hack slash that arent named god of war and devil may cry did and still do better , and stop craping on your game .

Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 launch trailer will send shivers down your spine

Ninja Theory's latest trailer for their highly anticipated narrative action-adventure Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 is absolute cinema.

Reaper22_1d 5h ago

Like I said before, buying Ninja Theory was one of the smartest moves by Microsoft. Games looks incredible.

Rynxie1d 1h ago

Unfortunately, their games aren't big sellers. Will MS shut them down if hellblade 2 sells below expectations?

outsider162423h ago

If it sells below expectations, then i expect it to come to PS5.

Elda23h ago

The game may be a critical hit & still can get shut down. I highly doubt most XB owners will buy this game including the fact that it's digital only at $50. Most folks that have Gamepass will play the game through the sub service. If the reviews tomorrow are just average to low then that's another problem.

Obscure_Observer1d 1h ago

"Like I said before, buying Ninja Theory was one of the smartest moves by Microsoft. Games looks incredible."

Indeed.

Just a few hours to go

I can´t wait!

z2g1d 5h ago

badass. already installed via gamepass. if its as great as the first one I will pay for the whole game.

glenn19791d ago

I just don't understand why all the down votes

jwillj2k41d 4h ago

Here we go again. Is this a game or a choose your own adventure???

purple1011d 4h ago

if you choose left, turn to page 39, if you proceed forward, turn to page 43, to turn right, page 209, you finished the book early,

no but seriously this looks like Microsofts first hit, or should I say, first game of standout quality.

jwillj2k41d 3h ago

Never questioned the quality. Question is will there be a need for the controller.

anast23h ago

The time machine 'choose your own' were awesome.

Tedakin1d 1h ago

If it's anything like the first game, you will spend a lot of timing walking and solving puzzles, with some fights thrown in.

Elda1d 3h ago

LOL! Didn't send any shivers down my spine but I'll demo it after midnight tonight through Gamepass to see what it's giving.

Obscure_Observer1d 1h ago

After the midnight? I see...

Day one as expected for another game that you said you had zero interest.

Elda23h ago(Edited 23h ago)

Finally making a re-appearance. When the heat was on about XB closing studios you were crickets on all articles. Now that the heat has died down all of a sudden you're here on an XB exclusive article or should I say a timed exclusive...lol!! If you must know I can demo this game at midnight because the University I work at is closed for the summer so I can play video games until my heart's content until the end of August when I go back to work. That's what Gamepass is for, knowing I would not spend $50 on Hellblade 2 because the first one I thought was boring so I'm going to see if this one is still boring or is it interesting by demoing the game.

Elda23h ago

Why not I have a year subscription to Gamepass, I don't have to spend $50 on a digital only game that I may not like including I'm on a lengthy vacation from work.

rlow11d 3h ago

It looks amazing, I’m hoping the reviews are solid. You can tell the studio really poured their heart and soul into this one.

Ninja Theory trends on X as gamers fear for studio following Tango Gameworks closure

Following the closure of 4 studios, many are now worried for the future of Ninja Theory once Hellblade 2 is released.

Sonic188112d ago (Edited 12d ago )

How is it going to sell well when it's also releasing on gamepass 🤔

Sephiroushin12d ago

Meant better to sell the studio and not closing it 🤦🏻 not to sell more games….
and games are sold anyways, you can buy it on xbox (not recommended if you got gamepass) but many pc gamers prefer to buy on steam than deal with the xbox app or pc gamepass!

On a side note to OP, the sales of studios wont happen though, especially when they want to retain the IPs, and well nobody is gonna buy a studios without its IPs; the other publishers that want a certain dev from the studio that are closing on their team can try to grab them as soon as they see they notice of the studio.

RaidenBlack12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

@Sephiroushin
Well hypothetically speaking, Ninja Theory can be sold to Sony at a lower rate sans the Hellblade IP.
Sony can then welcome them to work on the Heavenly Sword IP, which they still own.
Will be a nice proposition for Sony who can continue to offer a God of War-like hack n slash in their portfolio via Heavenly Sword 2, whilst Cory Barlog & co. decides to take a break from the God of War IP & venture some other genres.
On top of that, Ninja Theory was also interested in a sequel to Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and such Sony can come to a deal with Namco Bandai regarding the Enslaved IP.

badz14911d ago

selling the studio wouldn't be an attractive offer unless they come with their IPs. MS wants to keep these IPs, so even if MS is selling just the studio, no one would wants them

Lightning7713d ago

Because they're next come next year. HB2 won't hit some impossible metric within MS so they're getting axed in 2025. Leave gaming now MS.

XiNatsuDragnel13d ago

Ninja theory might as well be gone in 2025 at this rate

notachance12d ago

Every xbox studio is in danger now because there’s just no way they’re gonna rake in big money from game sales because of gamepass, even CoD was rumored to not come to gamepass because it would canibalize their sales number.

neutralgamer199212d ago

If they are smart they don’t put COD on GP day one. It’s one of the best selling games on yearly basis

Hofstaderman12d ago

Satya will make sure that doesnt happen. As you rightly put it; why kill the cash cow?

But then again, it is MS after all.....

thesoftware73012d ago

I agree and disagree. They should not put it on GP, but CoD makes real money from the overpriced MTX that people buy for over a year. They also have it all linked up to the Mobile CoD, which will incentivize Twitch spending from consumers.

neutralgamer199212d ago

Software

That’s true but keep in mind COD is the best selling or top 3 selling game every year. So yes micro transactions money is there but so are billions more

They should have tiers of GP subscriptions and the higher end tier received AAA games while everyone else gets them in 60 days

MontyeKristo11d ago

Wouldn't putting it on Gamepass be smarter? Cod is typically played, I believe, for far longer than 6 months.. if you get everyone playing the game for a year, on Gamepass, you've essentially doubled your profit. $10 a month for a year $120 compared to selling the game once for $60.

Not to mention MT's, on top of it. Sell on PS5, PC and Switch, keep it on Gamepass for Xbox and PC. Much smarter in my opinion..

-Foxtrot12d ago

Also if you punish a studio for releasing a great critically acclaimed game which won some awards then what chance does anyone have

Elda12d ago

After this mess, I highly doubt the next installment of COD will be on Gamepass day one. It'll probably land on Gamepass 6 months after release date.

Noskypeno12d ago

Like I said earlier, I wouldn't even mind. There's a good selection of games on GP already, and it gives me time to play my backlog of games while allowing the games that need to sell millions of copies to make a profit a chance to succeed, a win win scenario.

badz14911d ago

not putting CoD on GP is sort of a violation of their own marketing though. they said ALL MS 1st party games will be on GP day 1, not some. CoD is 1st party, so to not put it on GP day 1 would be considered as false marketing.

Rynxie12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

Ninja theory games were never big sellers. I could be wrong, but I doubt hellblade 2 will sell millions. I would rather they go independent and make heavenly sword 2.

solideagle12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

heavenly sword is Sony owned IP. this will never happen as original didn't sell enough...

Wikipedia: "In 2008, it was reported that a sequel to Heavenly Sword was in-development at SCE Studio Cambridge, but was canceled due to Sony no longer seeing it as a commercially viable product"

Flewid63812d ago (Edited 12d ago )

I remember. I feel like the amount of time & technology that has passed would make a sequel a big seller now. The game has enough legacy recognition to build hype.

Sony Patents To Prevent You From In-Game Harassment By Reading Your Emotions

A new patent recently published by Sony wants to gather biometric data of gamers to track whether one is being harassed using AI tools.

Profchaos26d ago (Edited 26d ago )

I hope this is one of those patents that never comes to fruition.

I already dislike the fact you can pay a significant amount for a online service buy associated games and content on said service and get banned from that service over potentially a misunderstanding the bans are already handed out for flimsy reasons

I'd rather see money invested in a ban that simply removes the offensive players ability to communicate with unknown players allow them to continue party chats with friends but not with Joe blow on cod.

exputers26d ago

Agreed. Blizzard recently banned a college Overwatch 2 player who's dependent for saying "shit." Pretty harsh.

Profchaos26d ago (Edited 26d ago )

How rediculas really. You can't say a word that's allowed in most PG films and prime time TV but the game is based around killing the enemy team using guns, explosives etc.

It's just backwards.

just_looken26d ago

What your talking about is called block list

In 2006 a spaceship dropped of the playstation 3/xbox 360 i say that that generation was the last great gen with game functions/tech that has yet to comeback

Anyhow the playstation 3 if you block listed a id they could not talk to you in chatroom with either text or voice. But that was pre mind fucked 2018 when people were more human than sheep.

But hey gta 6 is coming out billion dollar budget without a single player custom character creator and without singeplayer coop off/online something saints row 1-3 had on the xbox 360.

z2g26d ago

Take my social security and bank account numbers too! Here’s a picture of my wife and our address.

phoenixwing26d ago

Cmon where's the pictures of your children. Don't hold out on them.

H926d ago

At this rate I feel Sony will eventually sell a room to play games in it where they can monitor your every breath

jambola26d ago

I genuinely get a bit worried sometimes when a friend says something that could be offensive In a party
Because I have no trouble believing some bans would happen when in a private party for saying something wrong

SegaSaturn66926d ago

I want them to censor erotic content by measuring my groin temperature so i dont get too distracted while playing black ops 2.

Popsicle26d ago

Terrible idea. Not only do I not consent to providing my biometric data, the potential for mishandling biometric data is almost a certainty. Positive stress and negative stress can produce similar changes in biometrics. Interpreting the precise emotion a person is feeling is not only invasive but could be easily misconstrued. I hope this never comes to fruition.
