Does Linkin Park Support the War in Afghanistan?

Xboxist writes: "Yes, EA has dump trucks full of money, but Linkin Park aren't exactly strapped for cash, and the group has never been particularly pro-war in the past. It makes us wonder if the group actually support the war, or whether they gave it much thought at all.

The new trailer for the game reads uncomfortably close to an Army recruitment video. It features hard charging special operatives kicking butt in Afghanistan (but no close-ups of actual blood). Given public distaste for the war, as well as the recent revelation by Wikileaks that special operatives are being used to assassinate targets on a shadowy 'kill list', it seems that the realities of this war are far from the good guy/bad guy dichotomies we are used to seeing in video games."

I think it's more a case of bands not even really caring where their music is used, as long as it generates money.

There are lots of cases of music being used in films / advertisements where the message is totally opposite to what the song was saying, but it gets used anyway. Never underestimate the stupidity of consumers and the cynicism of advertisers.

theKiller5031d ago (Edited 5031d ago )

they get proper brainwashing from the mass media and they just love it!!

3 days ago, US forces killed 28 afghanis workers. and all their guilt was carrying one of their dead friend who died naturally and stopped in front water floods caused by the season raining.

and guess what was the american report?? we killed 20+ taliban fighters!!!

spektical5031d ago

im not gonna lie, taking media from other side is hogwash. You know nothing about what is going on over ther, anything you know is interpreted through some person's point of view. So what you heard, or saw, might actually be the complete opposite. Thats why when military stories come up, I take them with a grain of salt, unless i see it with my 2 eyes.

hynesa025031d ago

all i can say is that the media itself, especially in UK is not the view you should be listening to unless you personally go and look for answers yourself. I'm not sure what the US media is like but its extremely bigoted here in the UK, and as a servicemen myself i'd like to think i get both sides (pro and anti) in equal sides. All i know is that the media are full of s**t here, they would be on the side of the Taliban if there was a story that undermined the government...backwards idiots!

oh, but the news is never about "we killed so many" its always "they killed so many"

i hate our media.

oh and another difference:

No matter what anyone may say compared the UK the US people adore and love their military. they hate us here and in some cases if i go out with a group we'll get rejected from places BECUASE we're military...

theKiller5031d ago (Edited 5031d ago )

for those who live in the fictional world. read more of non government supportive media.

starting at aljazeera will be a good first step.

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

on topic:

on the other hand, maybe Linking Park supports the new medal of honor because it allows taliban story mode?? maybe they know the dirty truth whats going on in afghanistan and decided to support any game which will show the other side point of view!! however i really doubt they will really show taliban point of view!! because the only way to do that is by talking or listening to what taliban leaders have to say about this war.

Elwenil5031d ago (Edited 5031d ago )

Not you again. I thought I shut you up before? This is a gaming site. We don't want or need your terrorist supporting views on here any more than anyone here wants to hear my pro-US views. Aljazeera is nothing more than radical muslim propaganda and anyone who is not brainwashed into that lifestyle can easily see it. If you want to talk politics, go to another site and leave gaming to the gamers who just want to enjoy a game.

ExplosionSauce5031d ago (Edited 5031d ago )

I hate that. The moment someone disagrees with the mass point of view, one gets called a pro-terrorist and a commie. So typical of the closed-minded Amurican.

But I agree don't take media from the complete opposite side like that and also we shouldn't bring up politics in a gaming site.

Elwenil5031d ago (Edited 5031d ago )

That's a really stupid name by the way. But on the topic of "The Killer", he and I have traded many private messages discussing his views and he can not come up with anything to support them other than propaganda and radical rhetoric. My description of his views is 100% accurate as I learned from his closed minded ranting in my inbox. He is from a Mid-Eastern country, though not one involved in any sort of conflict, so it may be understandable why he feels the way he does due to the culture but that does not make his views anymore accurate. At any rate, none of this belongs on a gaming news site and is just typical sensationalism to generate hits on yet another ridiculously crappy "gaming journalism" website.

ExplosionSauce5031d ago

Thank you for saying my name was stupid, nice way to start a convo. You don't have a clue what it's about, apparently.

Anyways, you seem to know more about him that I do, so ok, I believe you, but I wasn't exactly talking about him. I just made a general comment.

Panthers5031d ago

Maybe LP just likes games or supports our troops (not the wars they are in) If I was in a band, I would love to have my music in games, even games based on real wars.

ExplosionSauce5031d ago (Edited 5031d ago )

That's a really good point, I agree.

Maddens Raiders5031d ago

who the f@ck cares? They're a band, who gives a shyt what they support, just make music.

tinybigman5031d ago

for the game i don't see nothing wrong with that.

also with this media thing i don't even bother to listen to anything they say here in the states, they've never had the citizens best interest at heart, and the government using them to manipulate those who believe to easily.

InFAMOUS15031d ago

And if I buy the game, does that mean I support the war in Afghanistan? This article is silly... Its 2010, and anyone not up-to-date on current war conditions are either too young or too naive or just don't care. Special Ops soldiers have been carrying out target objective 'kill lists' since the cold war... Take a look at the world map! Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, Georgia, Turkey ALL are on the door step of Iran, and all are beginning to house US military.. AND that was way off topic.. Sorry.. Anyways, 'most' bands don't care where their music ends up, as long as money is deposited into their account! Not to mention its a form of advertising.....

Christopher5031d ago

Do people who portray roles in movies about the war in Afghanistan and play characters who enjoy killing or want to kill someone specific to Afghanistan support the war in Afghanistan?

Are we so removed from being able to tell stories for stories sake that we have to label any familiarization with a real-world event as support?

DelbertGrady5032d ago

Linkin Park probably supports anything that gets them more money.

crzyjackbauer5031d ago

true so they can keep making crappy music

Soldierone5032d ago

The story of the game is about the daring soldiers that put their lives on the line. Listen to the lyrics and their song is telling the same story...You might not support the war, but support the troops.

finbars755031d ago (Edited 5031d ago )

I agree I had to listen to the song close myself wondering if they where in favour of the war or just supporting the troops.I see more of supporting the troops which I dont think there is anything wrong with it at all.Im sure the money is another concern for them even thought they dont need it.But all in all I dont see there being a problem with the video at all and I thought it was in good taste not crap like eminems song for black ops.

fredfenster5031d ago

No war without troops, no support for them invaders. They come to bring death, they find death amongst them.

Soldierone5031d ago

So you insist on another countries troops destroying innocent lives here instead?

fredfenster5031d ago

Here? Where here? If your talking about Afghanistan, there's no other country's troops destroying lives. If your talking about USofA, same story, no other country's troops.

Soldierone5031d ago

Youd rather pull all the troops from another country, and make it seem like a victory for them, only to have their "soldiers" bomb the hell out of our country?

Fact is these soldiers signed up to protect YOU, they didnt sign up to kill people or go into another country or act like a badass. They signed their life on the line to make sure you have a life to look forward to. If you dont want to support that then get the hell out of the country and make your own where people dont fight for one another and no one gives a crap about the guy next to them.

And if you play COD or any shooter, does that mean you support the war? cus your ass aint over there, while someone elses is so you can play that game.

Do I support the politics around war? no. Do i support the killing of another being to get a point across? no. I support the people that get shipped there to protect me for the idiots that started it.

fredfenster5030d ago

I really don't see how leaving Afghanistan would lead to Afghani soldiers bombing USA. Nor do I see how signing up is protecting me. I'm not saying these soldiers have some sick intentions, but it's not all about intentions is it? They wanna bring death to Taliban, they get death on their dessert plate, simple as that. Let me make this clear, I'm disgusted by the Taliban. However, when you have a gun and foreign troops start killing you, what the f0ck are you gonna do?

so support troops dosent mean support war ? what logic u have !!!!!

the-show-stopper5031d ago

u can support the troops and hope they are safe
but not support the war by wanting all your troops out

Xx Ziyad xX5031d ago

really i dont know who is good or evil is seem to me
evil vs evil
so i dont wish safe for evils

Dead_Cell5031d ago

Report: Sexual Misconduct Investigation Conducted at EA, Suspects Named and What They Did Revealed

EA senior staff has been investigated for sexual misconduct involving female coworkers, and these said people have been named publicly.

isarai3d ago

Aye just call Phil, i mean he somehow made Bobby Kotick's scandal disappear and gave him a few million dollar high five on the way out.

Cacabunga3d ago

I wonder if it will be censored with some in game ads.

MrBaskerville1d 3h ago (Edited 1d 3h ago )

Microsoft did, Phil Spencer played a minor part. He instigated the buyout that led to Kotick escaping all his controversies while getting a golden handshake.

Someone on Twitter calculated that the people hired in Tango and Arkane Austin could get a decent salary for roughly 17 years for the money Kotick was paid.

InUrFoxHole12h ago

Yeah some thing tells me Kotics $ was already guaranteed before MS made the deal. As for the studios... Let's be honest here... none of those studios made system sellers.

XiNatsuDragnel3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

EA about to go down like Activision and then Phil saves the day saying.this is good for the industry and consolidation will help create competition. /s.

MrBaskerville1d 3h ago

Then they shutdown Codemasters and studio behind Jedi Survivor.

Atleast they could hardly do much damage that EA hadn't allready done. EA has shut down most of their studios by now.

ravens523d ago

What's up with all these horny creeps. You gon be horny, fine. Just not at work take care of that shit before you go in. Rub one out if you have to. Don't be a creep at all. ESPECIALLY at work. But don't be one AT ALL.

Extermin8or3_3d ago

I mean part of the issue is that things transpired outside of work....

MrBaskerville1d 3h ago

That's the thing he mentioned about not being a creep at all.

KwietStorm_BLM3d ago

You think deviants care where they are? Work sometimes makes it an even better situation for them because they can abuse their power.

mudakoshaka2d ago

Nerds think they are Gods when they are making video games.

NotoriousWhiz3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

"it seems that according to EA, given the events transpired outside of work between two adults, and the fact that once investigation has started that the alleged perpetrators didn’t do it again, the investigation is considered closed. [...] The victim still has to work with the people that harassed her."

Yep, EA is disgusting.

Extermin8or3_3d ago

I mean the fact stuff happened outside of work puts EA in quite a difficult position legally. These women don't seem to have reported the matter to the police which kinda ties EA's hands on what they can do. If they don't file reports of the crimes then yeah from EA's perspective it is stuff that happened outside of work. The only exception is the guy that apparently referenced things in the slack channel for work, spending on what he said proving it may be very hard and he may well be able to get away with plausible deniability. I don't like EA and I think these people need to be dismissed but without any legal action being taken, EA can't really do much without risk of being sued themselves for unfair dismissal etc.

Remembering Medal Of Honor: The Forgotten Master Of WW2 Games

Ibrahim from eXputer: "The Medal of Honor franchise was once the crown jewel of FPS war games, later defeated by the tides of time and poor development."

banger8824d ago

They tried to turn it into Call of Duty and it killed it off. They should reboot it and go back to it's roots. But they'd ruin it with online-only/multiplayer style bullshit so why bother? I have very fond memories of these games, but this series can stay dead as far as I'm concerned.

FPS_D3TH23d ago

Was literally just thinking of this game the other week with the secret nut cracker mission and the shooting Bismarck dog lmao. Loved these games as a kid

PrecursorOrb23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

I wish they’d remake warfighter

Strictly for the campaign

The_Hooligan23d ago

I have fond memories of playing the Medal of Honor Breakthrough MP Demo. It had two maps and custom servers. Living on campus, I had it downloaded on one of the PC Lab servers so I could access it on any computer at the university. Joined a clan and made friends that I still keep in touch with today.
