What Other Developers Should Learn From GTA

NowGamer: Veteran games developer Howard Scott Warshaw's latest column highlights what other developers could and should learn from Rockstar's seminal sandbox game.

"I'm still bugged when people pick out Grand Theft Auto as an example of what's wrong with video games. Let's discuss how GTA III and Vice City represent what's right about video games. Most game players and all game makers can learn a lot from GTA."

strip clubs?

GWAVE5034d ago

No.

Sub-par graphics, average storylines, gratuitous violence, and wonky physics.

And then magically convincing the media that it's a 10/10 game.

THAT is what other devs could learn from GTA.

GTA 4's graphics were some of the best at the time
GTA 4's storyline was...better. Improved at least.
Fuck yeah, want to kill that hooker with a baseball bat, run her over a few times then take my money back
Cars dont stick to roads

Im tired of all the GTA 4 bashing. Most people are just pissed they didnt get jetpacks and shit to mess around with, but still demand realism

gta4 was so awesome if my 360 didnt rrod i would still be playing it

doshey5034d ago

What other developer should learn from GTA is not to take away extras that made GTA so much fun when it was on ps2. WHERE THE F@#K were the planes and jetpacks, i only bought GTA IV cause i thought it would be like SA wwith new story, and all those fun extras from SA

Hopefully Rockstar will stop trying to make 'art' and be content to make a 'toy box' with GTA V. Plz go back and realise what was so great about the PS2 games. Thx.

Darkstorn5034d ago

Can't they try for both? The biting social commentary on the radio and television in GTA IV was one of the best aspects of the game (for me, at least).

Alos885034d ago

Rockster do excellent tutorials, often unobtrusive things you find in the first few mission as to being separate hurdles to jump over to get to the real game.

Thecraft19895034d ago

not take the fun stuff out of your franchise for the sake of bit realism GTA IV with the all stuff off San Andreas would be the best game this generation Instead its biggest let down of this generation.

A Look Back at 'Grand Theft Auto: Vice City' Which Turns 20

Revisiting Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was released on October 29, 2002, only a year after Grand Theft Auto: III. As hard as it is to imagine in an era that sees a decade go between releases, GTA games used to drop annually.

Morrowind did a great job of open world in 2002 also but unfortunately Elder Scrolls has been diluted since then and hasn’t really progressed at all besides in the graphics department. Sad really .

shinoff2183563d ago

Pretty sure that was GTA 3, and then it took san andreas to perfect it. San andreas is still one of my favorite games.
