Hands on with Nintendo 3DS

When Nintendo invited us last week to an event to show off its three dimensional portable gaming console, the 3DS, I wasn't as excited as I should have been. A Nintendo fan since my first Duckhunt, I'd be lying if I said I was uninterested, but apart from a World Cup match in the cinema, 3D technology has never impressed me. There is a wow - for ten seconds or so.

Should be awesome! I've been holding out on getting a new DS. Still have the Phat. Didn't want to grab one while all the new models kept rolling out every year.

The 3DS isn't a new DS model. It's a successor to the DS.

And they should have concentrated on making the graphics to match the upcoming PSP2 as well as the 3D. At some point, Nintendo is going to have to worry a little more about graphics. I know it's not the most important aspect of gaming, but I guarantee you I'd be hardpressed to buy a PS4 or xbox 720 if the graphics were the same as the PS3/360. So, it IS important to some degree.

Edit: Would you all actually buy a new console that didn't offer better graphics than the previous one?? Seriously?

blumatt what are talking about psp2 has not been announced yet so how can they compete with the graphics. From what we have see so far 3ds has better graphics than ds and psp.

Ok, if you say so. Does it look better than Ghost of Sparta? My point is that they don't need to shoot for better than PSP. They need to shoot for on par with what PSP2 will probably do. Plus, the PSP2 will probably have 3G built-in. Of course, the one area where the 3DS will probably trump the PSP2 will be price.

Blumatt. Yes, it does look better then Ghost of Sparta. Instead of dissing the 3DS it would be a good idea to look into it first. The Metal Gear 3DS demo shown had amazing graphics and Kojima stated in an interview that if he had more time that he could have made it look even better. Also said that the models that he used in the demo were similar to models he used on the PS3.

Oh, ok, man. I hadn't heard that. Most of what I said was speculative, and I probably should have read up a little more. I was just going off Nintendo's history as of late where we've got a Wii that doesn't look much, if any, better than the Gamecube. So, I kinda figured they'd taken that route again with the 3DS. Sorry, guys.

Last time I checked, it had DS in the name. Oh, it also happens to have dual screens. Oh wait, I think it has a touch screen too!!

Yes, you're right, it's not another DS. It's an entirely new concept. >_>
