Best of the Castlevania Series

In light of the recent release of Castlevania: Harmony of Despair for XBLA, I’ve gone on somewhat of a replay through the best titles in the Castlevania series. The classic NES titles are always good fun, but things really start to get exciting with the Metroidvania style games such as Symphony of the Night. There have also been quite a few misses in the storied franchise, most notably Castlevania Judgement, but what are the top five games in the classic Konami series?

I would cast my vote for Symphony of the Night.

Anything other SOTN is a crime.

Get Harmony of Despair off of this list. They made a bunch of sacrifices to make it multiplayer and it gravely lacks a decent difficulty curve.

I would also put my vote on Symphony of the Night.

Yeah I don't get HoD being on this list either. If I had it my way...

1. Dawn of Sorrow
2. Symphony of the Night
3. Order of Ecclesia
4. Aria of Sorrow
5. Portrait of Ruin

Then again, I didn't like the non-Metroidvania ones.

Symphony of The Night all the way!! I bought it off PSN awhile back to replay through it for the first time since my PS1 days. The game still holds its own til this day. It's so much fun!

I've only played one Castlevania game. It was the first one for DS, but its title escapes me.

Don't shoot me please! Haha.

dredgewalker5039d ago

SOTN is the only castlevania for me.

1. Order of Ecclesia
2. Dawn of Sorrow
3. Symphony of the Night
4. Aria of Sorrow
5. Portrait of Ruin

For me☆

The 7 Best Vampire Games: Embrace the Night

Vampire games are making a comeback of late, and gamers hoping this is a new trend should look back at the 7 best vampire games ever made.

SimpleSlave50d ago (Edited 50d ago )

What is a list? A miserable little pile of scribbles.

A Best Vampire Game list and no Bloodborne. A bold choice, indeed.

The_Hooligan50d ago

IMO, I wouldn't consider bloodborne a vampire game. Long story short, It's more about the side effects of the blood experiment and the influence of the red moon, than actually being a vampire.

SimpleSlave50d ago (Edited 50d ago )

Yes, Bloodborne is about Vampires. It's not just the undertones, or the imagery or the obvious parallels, it's pretty much everything and then some. Here's the thing, Bram Stoker's Dracula is also not a Vampire novel. Why? Because technically Vampires from folklore were something else.

But based on our updated view of what Vampires are, informed in one way or another by Bram Stoker's Dracula, Nosferatu The Vamprye, and many other stories, and combined with From Software's own interpretation, we can say with confidence that Bloodborne IS a Vampire story. Sure, there are other elements, but the central narrative is pretty much Vampires. Which would make it THE Vampire game. I mean, Cainhurst Castle. Anyways, that's how I see it.

But to each their and we'll agree to disagree.

Thats the best Vampire game ever, but enough talk, have at you!.

Absolutely... Now, die monster! You don't belong in this thread!

I've lost all hype for Bloodlines 2. It's going to be an action game.

No Blood Omen? Even today it's one of my favourite vampire games. We could really do with a release on modern platforms.

I really enjoyed Vampyr. The combat is a little clunky and could use some work. However, the story, characters, dialog. setting, and pretty much everything else in the game is great.

Inspiration is a big part of the game industry, but if a game is inspired by another does it cheapen the experience? CGM's Jordan Biordi tries to examine the concept.
