DiRT 3 has over 50 rally cars

2011 racer DiRT 3 will have over 50 rally cars, Codemasters has confirmed.

They will represent "the very best from five decades of the sport".

DiRT 3, officially confirmed with the release of a trailer over the weekend, has more than double the track content of 2009's DiRT 2.

I love GT5 and I am buying it day one, but you got to give credit where credit is do and Dirt 2, even with 2 dozen cars, is one hell of a rally game. Cant wait for 3.

Dirt is a Rally game StbI990, heck, bringing up GT5 in this news story is border line trolling imho. They are both great games, and do what do are known to do very well, end of story.

Dirt has better rally physics than GT though. If you want rally on a next gen console Dirt is the best you can get so far.

i dont think 1000 rally cars exsist. They have picked fifty of the best and they will be fully modelled to include a decent damage system which gt doesnt have. I'm also glad to hear there focusing more on actual rallying than stupid race events too

I think that 50 cars is alright but at the Sametime come on man........ The 360 and PS3 is capable of so much more. GT4 has way more cars then dirt and that was on the PS2... No excuses smh

The thing is, if you actually watch a rally race. Or pay attention to the leader boards in a rally series... there are only xx number of cars/manufacturers. You won't see a Zonda going up Pikes Peak, but you will see Subaru, Mitsu and Pugeot(just to name a few).

Comparing GT series(a simulator) to a series of game that only focuses on one type of racing is borderline pointless. It's not about the number of cars, it's how close the devs get the racing and the cars(that are used in that type of racing) to real life. Given, Dirt2(fun) is a casual, care-bear approach to racing.

When I play a GT game, I expect more cars than I can handle. It helps add variety and when you hold the title of "Real Life Driving Simulator" you're expected to bring the most realistic cars, tracks and driving experience has a whole. Hell, there are thousands of cars out there in real life. But, when you're a game that focuses on NASCAR( for example), guess what you're only getting around 50 cars. 43 main drivers, a few alternates and a few made up characters. Couple that with a measly 4 manufactures, spread across 3 NASCAR divisions, you get a whopping 12 different types of cars. Of those 3 divisions, each one usually gets it's own game, so now you have 4 vehicles to use on each game. One Chevy, Ford, Dodge and a Toyota.

When you look at Dirt, they've grabbed some of the more obvious rally cars. But left several out. No Citroen, Pugeot(at least in Dirt2). Then they add Baja trucks and a buggies. The thing is, when it comes to dirt racing.. unless you start counting circle track racing(which is a different sport entirely, more like NASCAR) you really don't have many options for vehicles. Even if you did add circle track cars into the game, you would get a whopping 4-6 more. And that's from the professional level.
The Dirt series focus on Rally and Cross Country style events. You don't see a wide variety of vehicles to start with, so why should CM add cars that wouldn't fit the idea of Dirt?

A few more cars would be nice, but it isn't needed. Personally, I think the whole story progression of Dirt 3 should be redone. Dirt 2 was entirely too care-bear and limited.

In all seriousness, comparing GT to a game like Dirt or WRC is like comparing the NFL games, to the NCAA. One has 32 teams, while the other has over 100. The fact of the matter is, they're both football and that's all that matters. If you like one type of football over the other, then that's the game for you.

I'm not comparing them at all. The only thing I'm saying is they can indeed add way more then just 50 cars etc. In no way is GT related to Dirt I'm very aware of that and if you see my post you can clearly see I'm not trying to bash it.

I'm just saying it is possible to add a few more cars. Every racing game I play I'm always about the number of cars I can drive with. Thats just me though so to each is their own.

I wasn't saying -you- were bashing the game. Most of the people posting about this game, seem to be comparing it to a game that isn't even out yet... Don't get me wrong, I'm sure GT5 will be great and it alone is the reason I will buy a PS3... I guess there's nothing wrong about the number of cars( if that's what you're into). I'm more about the driving experience and the realism in the cars/tuning. Which previous GT games have been pretty far off from realism in the tuning and upgrading department.

Sure, they can add the 50+ different types of the Civic. Add a few dozen Mustangs. Throw in the 5 or so types of Corvette and while they're at it, CM can go ahead and add "prototype cars" that their own people designed and give them some half assed attempt of a back story. But that wouldn't fit the nature of the their game.

Wow great news i hated how dirt 2 was like an xgames event more rally rocks wish dice got back into rally games wrc and f1 then tdu2 and gt5 . Gt5 will be good but 1000 cars not keen to race a hyundai family station wagon .
