But since he's talking about facebook and twitter, etc...It sounds more like the guy didn't truly give a truly GENUINE look at the PS3's online features...because in truth, it has the MOST online features of any console....ever, mostly due to its browser.

One problem the Ps3 has is the same problem the Arcade 360 has, and that's the fact that it doesn't come with a headset! I know you can use your own blutooth headset, but most may not do it!

I found it is easier to make friends and build up your friends list on XBL with a headset. On Ps3, it's a bit harder. A lot of gamers don't use headsets, and the ones who do are very restrictive. The alternative is some people just use keyboards to communicate. Which is ok, but gets in the way!

I can understand why they do this, because it is a lot cheaper for MS to include a wired mic instead of a wireless mic. Sony only does (no pun intended) wireless. So neither company wants to lose money on something they can make cash on.

Speaking of headsets... Does anyone know how to get the MGS 4 headset working? My brother in law gave me one, but it keeps asking me for a password to use it! I asked him what the password was and he said he never had to use one. Anyone know how to bypass this?

I've made a small handful of very good friends from all over the world on HOME , we send each other birthday cards...have loads of fun on games like comand and conquer and red dead redemption...and also chill out and have a chat in home square. occasionaly we'll go to one of the personal spaces and play music or chat. I've never used an xbox360, so I don't know, maybe it is even better, but i think i'd miss home, it's like a virtual reality world, I love it

Its a great feature on XBL to party chat any place with anyone and your fanboy tendencies are keeping you from seeing that.

Just another in a long line of tunnel vision articles. If you are going to write an article then weigh the pros and cons of each console. Both systems offer something the other does not and to only show one view point makes your opinion invalid. At least that is my opinion.

I own both consoles and strictly use them for gaming but I have taken the time to learn what each have to offer other than gaming. Maybe the author should have done the same before wasting our time.

As a friend of mine, dirty minded individual that he is, would say, "The PS3 does one thing no other gaming console can do. Since my GOLD expired (and I did not renew) how to you think social features work for me?
- no Facebook ( Don't care much about it)
- no Twitter ( Don't care much about it)
- NO VIDEO chat ( very important for me)
- NO NETFLIX ( super important ) had to order Netflix for PS3 but personally find this kind of annoying after having diskless access previously.
- NO online multilayer.

And yet I can do all this thing on PS3 ( NO Social Access FEE required). Browser may not be the best but it does better than decent job with Facebook, Twitter is fine , Pandora works. Video creator and integration with Youtube and Picasa is simple and nicely done... And there is Home. Plenty of arcade games and if you looking for people that play certain game you can visit "that" game space (though not all games have their spaces)

But you know what... going outside and meeting your friends face to face is the best way to socialize.

Normally I disagree with you (because you typically just troll), but you hit the nail on the head there, buddy.

I don't own a 360 (Too poor to afford both) - so I can't state this as fact - but from what I've seen, the 360's community aspect is heaps better than that of the PS3.

If Sony would stop working on new features that most people couldn't care less about for a bit and work on more requested features [Cross Game Chat, PS2 software emulation, Auto Trophy Syncing] or improving the features we already have [Like the web-browser, integration for facebook, speeding up XMB loading a bit, etc], the system would be unstoppable.

I think the main reason that people in the United States prefer the 360 is because their friends have it, and they enjoy the social features that the PS3 doesn't offer (or offers poorly).

Hopefully with the recent addition of PSN+, Sony will be more willing (and able) to implement more features and updates on the system.

Actually it's about as quick as IE8 on my laptop.I used to use the PS3 browser happily until I got Chrome.Now'it's too slow.
It runs ok ish thought and better than the 360 one.DOH!
It also runs plenty of video content like Todays Big Thing and has stuff like Home(poop),Life(news and helping Stamford Uni)and Vidzone(music channel).Live is over rated and actual gaming os often better on PSN with bigger player counts with games running a bit better.

I don't agree with him feeling as if he's missing out, because he's really not, I may not have a 360 but I have a Twitter and a Facebook and when I'm playing my PS3 it's the moments I'm games like GoW3 or Uncharted 2 that I can block out everyone else, I can't tell how many times people have called me and I've ignored the phone. AGREED. An integrated web browser is the ultimate social connection tool. I can log straight into facebook, twitter, myspace and every other social networking site in this universe. But still I have apps for facebook and twitter directly on my iPhone and those push notifications to my phone and its much quicker and convienent to use those features that way so the social network aspect in that regard isn't neccesary for me. As far as psn goes I can easily check my friends list with the press of a button.. With the Psn i.d. you can at a glance see name, lvl, what they are doing, most recent trophies, and whether they are online or off.. Thats all I need and it just works well.. Is it as cohessive as xbox live? Hell I have no clue but why should that matter? PSN works very well and its free- all I can ask for..

I too have a super fast connection 25mps+ and the PS3 is way slower at browsing than my PC and my Wii. I don't know what it is about the PS3, but everything that it does online is real slow except for gaming.

Dowloads take forever and the PS3 is closer to my wireless N router than my 360. I can download the same exact game on both consoles with roughly the same amount of Gigs, but the XBOX will always download and be ready to play without installing in half the time of the PS3. I am not bashing the PS3, but it is a fact, I own both I would know. Even when the consoles are wired, the 360 still spanks the PS3 in this department.

The PS3 is technically more powerful, so this makes no sense whatsoever for the internet features of the PS3 to be so slow. Shouldn't the power of the cell be able to help with this? Or is the split RAM that gives it trouble? I still have not figured it out. It did it on my old PS3 fat as well as my slim. It is no reason to bash the PS3, but I am just confirming that Johnny is probably telling the truth as I have a similar experience on mine.

Lol I'm on a 6mbps connection via wifi and I have no issues with speed on my ps3. Is it slower then my computer? Yea but the convience of having a free web broswer on my ps3 is great, the other day I was playing killzone 2 and wanted to check killzone.com for something. I hit the link they have built into the game and presto, my ps3 web browser launches killzone.com without ever leaving the game. It's not perfect but why should it be? This is sony's first attempt at making a network for their console and so far its a fabulous service all the while remaining free..

Or I could just go by my own first hand experience. My ps3 is very fast, I've never had an issue with connection speed. I use the browser quite often as well to watch shows or movies online on players like wisevid and megavideo, they load nearly as fast as they do on my macbook pro. It works like a charm, try doing that on the 360.

Now I won't be complaining about it not being a part of it, but would people actually utilize this if it came to the PS3? I mean let's be serious for a second. How many people would tweet games and have tweets sent of trophies they earned? Why would you send this to Facebook as well especially if you don't have as many gamer friends?

Personally I don't find either to be as valuable to the addition of the consoles but to each their own I suppose. The only thing I would like is Last.fm or some internet radio on one or the other that can even be utilized while in the game. That makes me sad that we can't do this yet.

I refuse to use my ps3 for multi gaming because its so damn slow. My time ise precious and like I have said before it take hours to download demos on psn and then at leat a half hour to play the game I just bought because I have to install and load it and if I missed the last firmware update .......don't get me started. 360 does none of this and makes gaming easy and fun. Maybe 10 min for a demo on the 360 is the longest I have ever waited and that made me mad so the ps3 is ancient tech compared to the 360 in the online dept. Sorry but its true.

I've had Playstations all my gaming life and it has been the only console i've ever had, but since the PS3 and the Xbox 360, nearly all my friends have a 360 and about 2 have PS3. When playing games like Uncharted 2 or Battlefield, it just feels lonely, whereas on the 360 all my friends are playing MW2 together all the time and having a great time. Because of this i might be tempted to the dark-green side and get the new Xbox to join the fun.

It looks like the guy described how he felt. And how are you to make friends on the PS3, when you have to text chat everyone in the middle of game? I play my PS3 online all the time and have roughly 10-15 people on my friends list 4 of which are real life friends. The others I met because they were some of the few online on the PS3 that had a friggin mic.

I don't have Red Dead for the PS3, but my friend does. I was at his house playing it online and it was very quiet. Ghost town fit the description very well. When I play Red Dead at my house on the 360, I usually meet a few assholes that just want to shoot you in free roam, but I will always find some really quick that wants to do some gang hideouts or some co-op.

This is fact, no fanboy bullshit here man. I love to game and what I have said is all true for me. You guys may have a different experience, but this one is legit and can be proven with a camcorder.

I enjoy my PS3 more than my 360 because IMO PS3 has far better AAA games but there is more of a community feeling on Live. I think it's just because everyone has a headset whereas on PS3 hardly anyone uses their Bluetooth. I prefer SP though anyways.

The few friends I have on PSN all use headsets. I always wondered why Sony has included a headset in their consoles. I joined a clan for MW2 on the PS3 because my clan on the 360 were mostly full of foulmouthed douchebgs, but the clan ended up being full of guys who didn't have headsets. WTF! Seriously a clan with no headsets. I'm sure that is not normal but that's why I bought the PS3 version was to play with a different group of gamers. Kinda fail for me.

Live has more of a community feeling to me and that's where I play all 3rd party games.
But I'm at an age where MP is getting less and less interesting. I'm not there for the grief or hassle. I just want to play with some friends and have fun.
For the article stuff I never use the Facebook app or Twitter on Live. I use my blackberry for that. On PSN I'm there for gaming and nothing else.

Sure, PSN isn't as smooth and efficient as Xbox Live but at least you get to play online for free. The biggest thing PSN is missing is cross game chat, which is an important feature that is very very useful, for me anyway. Though it will have it in a matter of time. When you're playing a game on the 360, one click of a button brings up a nice neat menu in less than a second that you can easily maneuver to check who's online or to talk with friends. On the PS3, the center button brings you to the xmb which takes longer to load and is more clumsy. Sony should change that to a different and neater menu, separate from the xmb. Though this is not a big deal. The only major thing that PSN is missing is cgc, as I said. The major thing XBL is missing is free online play. I've both consoles so I've the best of both worlds but to be honest, if I didn't have many friends on XBL, I wouldn't pay for XBL Gold. The main benefit that the 360 has over the PS3 is that it can be hacked. However, the PS3's powerful exclusives and superior hardware make it my console of choice. Plus I hate M$! Then again, who doesn't?

Facebook freezes my ps3 on a regular basis but hopefully the web browser update will fix that. PS3 needs XMB chat, there is a reason it is the most requested feature. Anyone who plays on 360 knows how nice it is to be able to send voice messages or party chat. The whole "I have a phone for that" is a terrible red herring to those who want their ps3 as a centralized and complete social gaming system.

I use skype myself but would rather have it all integrated into my ps3, it is much more practical. Those who are against XMB chat are just against new features, which is just silly. They are like people who said house phones were find and cell phones were not needed.

I got both consoles and I totally agree with this guy. The xbox feels much more intergrated within it's social platform. The marketplace feels part of the dashboard, the friendslist and the comparison of games feels much more fluid.

When I turn on the ps3 I kinda feel exactly like this guy.. kinda missing out on stuff. Going to the psstore is a seperate program within the xmb.

It's all hard to explain, but I guess some feelings can't be explained. I think the ps3 is a very very good console and it has great games.. Killzone I had to mute people all the time because I only wanted to talk to friends and my Polish is not too good.My friends all had Live and we cancelled it.We all play on PSN and all have mics.Red dead co op at the moment.

When I first played online on my PS3 I felt lonely. I spent 50 bucks on a mic to chat with people online on Resistance 2. Every time I said a small "hello" or "whats up" I would just get blank replies as if I was playing with robots. I cant get my team to work together if no one uses a mic. It just felt odd going from party chat on my 360 to nothing at all. Luckily I made some friends in PS Home who I could play games with.

I agree with this guy completely. Sony needs to step up their game with PSN. I thought Playstation Plus was going to bring some of the much needed features like cross-game chat to PSN but all it brought were incentives to spend more of your hard earned dollar (or not so hard earned in some people's cases). Xbox Live actually feels almost like a social networking hub unlike PSN which does have an odd feeling of loneliness.
