Could A Console Version Of StarCraft II Work?

With a relatively successful, albeit questionably marketed version of the original StarCraft released for the Nintendo 64 in 2000, how would StarCraft II fare on today's consoles?

qface645055d ago

i forgot about that n64 starcraft lol

well honestly though i don't see a point in a starcraft for consoles i mean everyone who even wants SC2 will already get it for PC

nikkisixx25055d ago

Lol that starcraft for the n64 sucked so bad and was awesome at the same time... weird.

But I believe with he Move capabilities you would be able to put SC2 on the console

Cheeseknight285055d ago

It may have sucked but hey, it did have an exclusive level.

Rot_in_Fail5055d ago

I'm not interested in SCII but I would try it just out of curiosity with Move.

evrfighter5055d ago

"I'm not interested in SCII but I would try it just out of curiosity with Move."

lol come on now.

it's ok to catch starcraft fever. pc gamers won't judge you.

AndrewRyan5055d ago

No offence to sony but I don't think they could afford to pay Blizzard to develop Starcraft 2 for the move. Not saying that they CAN NOT afford it, they would just lose heaps of money.

ThanatosDMC5055d ago

Nah, I dont think Move will work properly like a mouse and keyboard UNLESS the speed of the game is kept at normal. Seriously, i still cant beat an AI opponent on Hard mode at "Faster" speed setting or keep up with it... but then again i dont have super Korean gaming skillz.

Those guys are faster than the AI which is freaky. Even Medium difficulty AI on Faster speed is hard.

morganfell5055d ago

Are you kidding? Did no one see the Dualshockers video showing a strategy game using Move? Not even a KB/M combo can keep up with that kind of interface. The ability to select units and give not only waypoints but exact routes is faster than anything to date.

Go to the 1:50 mark here:

ThanatosDMC5054d ago (Edited 5054d ago )

Well, that was actually very slow. But the AI in Starcraft 2 is based of on Korean gamers. Now that's fast and the link on the bottom is slow. Check out how many times he clicks before switching screens. These guys are the beasts in Starcraft.

morganfell5054d ago

And that isn't an issue considering what you are looking at is a tech demo. Yes I have been playing SCII and played tons of SC1 and BW. Some of us were not teenagers when the originals premiered. Hotkeying is the secret to SCII but Move selection in a final form might easily keep up with that. Certainly as I said custom routes is huge. Now add features like rapidly designated patrol boundaries...

ThanatosDMC5054d ago (Edited 5054d ago )

We'll see, i dont actually like RUSE because it's a simplified RTS game and it probably would work as intended with Move. I'm hoping that a game like Company of Heroes would be ported but i highly doubt it since they're re-releasing the game for free for everyone to play sometime this September or November on PC. It's called Company of Heroes Online.

I hope RTS Move implementation could work as well as a mouse and keyboard but i have doubts. We'll see what happens then.

For Move, the only types of games I'm looking forward to are the fighting games that uses two Move controllers. It'll be a good workout and hopefully it'll be a new challenge.

It would only work on PS3 due to superior processing power and being the only console that supports KB+M.

baodeus5055d ago

you an idiot. Star Craft was never about graphics (you can even play it without a graphic card). SC2 graphic is very minimal (they finally added some physical elements to it). Do you really need PS3 processing just to play star craft 2? I can see other console support KB+M as well. The only problem is if they want to implement it or not. But right now, PC is the way to go.

Got to go play some SC2. Yay, been a long time.

Shnazzyone5054d ago

Shame it couldn't run it... actually the best hope is 360 since it runs an pc like core. I imagine porting it to sony's proprietary hardware would be the most costly option... incorporating move would assure it's failure. Keyboard and mouse would be the only logical option... That and not every ps3 owner wants to balance a keyboard and mouse while on the couch. Really... why don't you play it on pc then?

Poseidon5055d ago

ps3 and the move say hell yea

rdgneoz35055d ago

R.U.S.E. is using Move, and they had a demo the other week by one of the Move developers showing a RTS demo for Move that looked interesting. But I don't see SC II coming to consoles any time soon.

Qui-Gon Jim5055d ago

Anton Mikhailov has said that he rigged up a PC with a PS3 and used Move to control Starcraft. I think he said it works really well.

Persistantthug5055d ago

PS3 even has direct Keyboard and mouse option ready to go.

There's no reason not to.

I'd try it.

Definitely, many console gamers don't game on the PC so there is a large untapped audience.

krouse935055d ago

I game on PC and PS3 primarily pretty evenly split between the two. But a PS3 PlayStation Move version of the game would be badass!

Downtown boogey5055d ago

Like me. I have a decent rig, but I've figured out the funniest thing... Gaming costs more on the PC. The used games market is much lower than on the consoles which is why it's so cheap for me to play on consoles. I once even EARNED money when selling a used game even though I had bought it as new.

STONEY45055d ago

Someone's never heard of Steam....

OrganicMachine5055d ago

the Game's interface alone needs to be re-designed to get it to play right.

Colonel-Killzone5055d ago (Edited 5055d ago )

With Playstation Move Most def. Least in my opinion also needs the keyboard and mouse function.

Mista T5055d ago

they should allow you to use a usb connected keyboard and a move controller at the same time.

N4BmpS5055d ago

Well if you have a SONY Vaio laptop you can use that wirelessly, remember that update before 3.41 or maybe before that enables you to use a Vaio as a controller.

$15 horse for WoW made more money than StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty

Jason Hall, currently an indie developer and former Blizzard employee, has been sharing some really interesting stories from his long career in the industry for a while now. Some of them are truly insightful, while others may seem depressing.

I’m a little shocked that StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty sold only around 6 million copies. The original StarCraft did over 11 million. Maybe Blizzard was too leisurely in releasing StarCraft 2? Starcraft 2 came out 12 years after it’s predecessor.

Plague-Doctor27196d ago (Edited 196d ago )

Im surprised too. Starcraft was still a huge name in 2010. It was kinda the only new RTS around and other genres like MOBAs hadn't really kicked off yet. I do remember at the time sentiment around the game was
pretty angry the game was being split into 3 but I doubt that would have impacted sales to that degree

Sciurus_vulgaris196d ago

For a long time I believed StarCraft II sold on par or better than its predecessor. There was so much hype for the game. Plus it had a pretty strong E-Sports scene for a few years.

Myself and half a dozen friends all bought StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty and played it religiously for a full year. While I bought the expansions, most of my friends did not. RPGs seem to be a generally low selling genre.

Nerdmaster196d ago

I'm not shocked at all. This was an early example of Blizzard being greedy. Instead of releasing a complete experience, splitting Starcraft 2 in 3 parts so it could make us purchase it 3 times if we wanted to know the whole story and play story mode with the other races.

Sciurus_vulgaris196d ago

I originally had that stance. However, Wings of Liberty, was just as long, if not longer than StarCraft 1. The expansions were of decent length too and added a good amount of additional content.

il-JumperMT196d ago

and people wonder why we are having mtx in everything. i blame the people who actual buy them.

Nerdmaster196d ago

It's interesting he used Brazil as an example of the importance of regional pricing. Nowadays many companies on Steam are setting their prices in Brazil as high as, if not more than, their price in USA. I simply refused to buy a few games when I noticed that's the case.

Extermin8or3_196d ago

This right here is the fucking problem.

Don't really agree on Dead Space being number one. But usually come down to preference. Alot of good games on the list. I was hoping to see Aliens vs Predator by Sierra on the list, as it was a great game. Anyways for me the number one is still Halo but Mass Effect was really good up to the infamous ending of the third game.

Rebel_Scum1177d ago

I would put Flashback on my list. Its got such a great tone and background design. The cutscenes were pretty good too.

Master of Unlocking1176d ago (Edited 1176d ago )

DEAD SPACE 2 as number 1? Really? I've only ever played DEAD SPACE 1 (without finishing it) and, sure enough I liked it a lot, and have been yearning for getting to grips with an hd remastered trilogy for the PS4/XBox One/PS5/XBox Series X/S, but what about Deus Ex Human Revolution & Mankind Divided? Alienation (to quench our thirst for twitching fingers' top-down dual-stick shooters)? Or even Cyberpunk 2077 (once the game has been re-released and all the kinks have been ironed out)?

If not at the #1 spot, it seems to me these games deserved to be on the list somewhere.

But what really strikes me as unfair is, if you're going back to the PS3/XBox 360 era with DS2, how could you forget to mention Killzone 2 & 3? The Resistance games? When it comes to Sci-Fi FPS, it's inadequate not to pay your respects to those stellar franchises! Heck, even the Crysis trilogy should've been there IMHO.
