GTA IV: Killing The Xbox 360, Boosting The PlayStation 3

For as much flak as Peter Moore got while leading the Xbox 360 team, it's hard to deny that his penchant for adorning his arms gave gamers a couple of very memorable moments. I mean, before Peter Moore's E3 2005 stunt, had you ever seen another executive get a (fake) tattoo for a key franchise (Halo)? And then, not to be outdone, walk into a second E3 with another (fake) tattoo for another franchise (GTA IV)?

If Peter Moore were still at Microsoft, I have a sneaking suspicion he'd be seeking out a tattoo-removal specialist. Because today, that enthusiastic showing two E3s ago that his "mission" was "accomplished" now looks like a 20-something inking the name of a one-night-stand on his bicep.

Mass Effect was in response for this part of the article

"But with GTA IV now delayed, Halo 3 (if it doesn't end up being delayed) will release two months before the holiday shopping season really kicks off, thereby enabling Sony to come out of the Turkey-Day gates with a stellar first-party lineup."

Because Microsoft has more then just Halo 3 launching this fall

D_U_I6111d ago (Edited 6111d ago )

got to do with Mass Effect !!!! Thats all you fanboys ever go on about... blah blah blah... I really do bloody hope sony buy's Rockstar. Hmmm problem solved

Edit: IMO, Rockstar have delayed GTA just so that the ps3 has time to boost its install bass. I have a feeling GTA4 could become ps3 exclusive or maybe we could get that content aswell... hehehe

N4Gworks4Sony6111d ago

more N4G dirty little tricks. this article comes from an unknown website that was most likely created by the sony camp

Xbox 360 Will6111d ago

If you think that then don't come to this site. We don't care what you think and you won't be missed. Rather then complain all the time become a contributer and submit Xbox 360 stories instead of being a broken record.

N4Gworks4Sony6111d ago

the truth is damaging isnt it?

Xbox 360 Will6111d ago (Edited 6111d ago )

intelligent then i thought. How can the truth be damaging? If your statement is correct then all the Sony fanboys and Sony supporters are happy. If your right then you and your 360 comrades are the only ones that are bothered by this. So rather then whine about it become a contributor to balance the scale. Or go to a 360 website.

xhi46111d ago

look at your display pic....no sony? it just tells it all....fanboy much?

@ the person below me

Because they are multiplatform makes it worse for sony because that means u could get the same game on a much cheaper platfrom with the same quality maybe even better (althoug i think all multiplatform games look the same on both consoles) also if u look at sales allmost all multiplatforms between 360 and ps3 the 360 sales nearly triple the ps3 sales of the same game and thats obviously because of install base soooo i dont see how thats goin to change this holiday season

heavymetal3k6111d ago

Alot of those are multiplatform...

BLUR1116111d ago (Edited 6111d ago )

left 4 dead , army of two and bioshocks coming out very soon and stranglehold so theres plenty of awesome games await, and i think xbox's version will sell better anyway. so even that microsoft has been in a dump hole this last so many months xbox still is the shlt

Nigglet6110d ago

This is bad news for sony, good for microsoft. This was probably the best game for the PS3 this holiday, now it is gone. And this game has a huge sony-fan following which will not help now for this holiady. Good news for MS because they have Halo and Mass Effect coming out before and after the GTA release was supposed to be, so they are good, some idiot talked crap about Mass effect earlier, clearly a jealous sony fan, MASS EFFECT IS BETTER THAN ANY PS3 GAME THIS YEAR AND PROBABLY NEXT ALSO. This is really good for MS because now the extra content for the 360 version will be more of a facter since it is releasing closer together now, it is more relevant to gamers who realize that the extra 360 stuff is only a month away from the game now, so which version is better will be no question.

Mu5afir6110d ago (Edited 6110d ago )

It's about console sales, multiplatform games aren't console sellers. The first party and exclusives are the games that drive most consoles sales. Halo, is the only game that I can see that is going to sell consoles for the 360.

Mass Effect and Bioshock are great games, but they are new IPs and won't draw console sales. If they had a Gear 2 etc.. that would have helped. But they were hoping to entice Ps2 owners to the 360 over the holidays by releasing GTA4, that was the whole point of the exclusive content.

M$ should have used that 50 million to make new IPs, like Sony did.

@ Nigglet

Don't make pre-conclusions about games you have not played.

the article has some really good points. i definately think this hurts MS more than sony.

mintrieri6111d ago (Edited 6111d ago )

It probably would hurt MS a bit more but it will depend on how they spin it. MS could hurt Sony's rep if they reinforce the image of the PS3 as a difficult system to program for and the cause of the delay (an unconfirmed rumor speculated by Pachter).

My feeling though is that both versions will greatly benifit from the extra polish time resulting in a better GTA4 which is a win for all gamers. Also, with such a crowded slate of great titles coming for the 360 this holiday, it might now come out at an otherwise slow period.

tehcellownu6111d ago

Sony knows they have the games when they release it their sales is goin to boost..while microsoft is trying to steal every game sony have last gen..all they have is halo..moore leavin microsoft is a smart move.. gta releasing next year will hurt them more..maybe rockstar is plannin on makin contents for the ps3 too thats why there was a delay..

Mu5afir6110d ago

The general consumer doesn't care if a game is harder to "PORT" to a particular console. If a game is "exclusive" you won't hear that complain, this is "exclusively" a multiplatform issue. But in general, an average consumer doesn't take devs problems with making a game on a system as a factor when buying a console.

KeMoBLUE6111d ago

this really does help the ps3.

toughNAME6110d ago

well the PS3 is still hovering around rock bottom

it definitly cant get any worse

so i guess they benefit from GTA delay?

but seriously....360 holiday lineup > Ps3 holiday lineup..simple as that

ALIEN6111d ago (Edited 6111d ago )

Is Peter Moore no longer working for M$? "If Peter Moore were still at Microsoft" What's that suppose to mean?

Back on topic: For a moment i thought this will hurt SONY. But it seems like it could help them, instead of hurt them.

mintrieri6111d ago

Peter Moore is moving to EA to head up their Sports division. And a former executive of EA (don't know his name) is replacing Peter.

FeralPhoenix6111d ago

I guess the speculation over GTA4 delay will continue until the game is released. Tommorrow there will be another story about it hurting the PS3 more, then another about who's fault it is, hey is there a post right now on N4G calling analyst Micheal Patcher and idiot of the week for his predictions?, really who knows whats going on with GTA4, but does it really matter since is "delayed" for both consoles.....why so much speculation?, I know its a huge game but both consoles have better stuff coming IMO, but admittedly I've never been a fan of GTA series....I know, I know, I'm not normal.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies3d ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken3d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing694d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker4d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing693d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt3d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken3d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.

Grand Theft Auto 4 is an important game for Rockstar, not least because it was the first title in the franchise to use the newly created RAGE engine.
