HoopWorld Review (RunDLC)

Friends of mine think the NBA should introduce a ten-point shot at half court, and while that may sound ridiculous, it would make the game more interesting. Think about it. The Celtics are up ten on the Bulls, when all of a sudden, Derrick Rose throws up a prayer that banks in and ties the game. Sure, that’s probably heartbreaking if you’re a Celts fan, but it would magnify interest among casual observers.

That said, I’m surprised that up until HoopWorld, video game publishers hadn’t messed with the scoring formula. Even NBA Jam, the most over the top hoops game, strictly adheres to two and three point baskets. On that note, Virtual Toy’s newest WiiWare release (available for 1,000 Nintendo Points) doesn’t have the almighty ten-point shot, but you can score four from the same distance. Heck, you can even remove five points from an opponent’s score. Welcome to the jungle, baby.

IGN: HoopWorld Review

IGN writes: "The upcoming remake of NBA Jam may no longer be an exclusive for Wii, but at least we've still got HoopWorld. This 3-on-3, over-the-top, no-fouls-called arcade hoops game has a lot in common with EA's more famous ball-on-fire franchise, but liberates itself from that comparison enough to stand on its merits. And, bonus, it was originally supposed to be an Xbox Live Arcade release. We got it instead. So, you know, payback for the Jam thing".
