It's most likely true anyone who actually lives in the UK knows how popular the 360 is, I can't speak for areas like London where the cost of living is higher and people earn more.

but in middle class areas like Chester every game store has a bigger 360 selection then PS3. The 360 is vastly more popular in the UK then it is in the rest of Europe.

Microsoft know there business they currently control the worlds largest and 3rd largest gaming territories.

Am sure I will get disagrees for stating simple facts, by people that believe there console of choice has to be the most popular everywhere in the world but it's simply not the case.

People bought PS3 slim because of the price drop lets be honest that was its selling point. That's what shifted it.. As for 360S it's selling point was obviously not price as it was retailing at the same price as the current model Xbox 360 Elite. The thing that has massively helped sales is the RROD factor. Nearly all my friends with 360's traded in their premiums for 360S as not only was it super cheap to do they think it will kill that fear of the console going RROD one day. So it's win win.. People have gotta stop being idiots and denying the fact that 360 sold well due to replacements selling.

I mean the 360 arcade was released as a replacement console in case yours goes for a nice low price.. Although MS would never come out and say it we knew it to be true. Everytime the ban hammer came down MS sold a million arcade consoles. The 360 constantly needs replacing but the great thing about this new console is hopefully it won't need replacing unlike previous 360's and that has what has sold it.

Agreed 360 sells well here but console replacements have obviously played a big part in that. I cannot deny it as I had 3 360's in as many years all bought by myself. I am tempted to buy the new model too after being without a 360 for over a year now mainly because I think it's reliability isn't as much in doubt anymore so I won't have to replace after a year like my other 2 consoles.

The PS3 slim was a pricecut while the 360S was a price increase and it still beat the PS3. But then again the UK is more 360 country than the US I think it even consistently outsells the Wii each week too.

Edit: It even beat the PS2 slim launch too very impressive.

Nope you're are wrong, I live in the UK, the elite 360 has been £199 for ages, like at least half a year i think. There was no pricecut for the 360S just like in the US. Old elites got cut to £149.

The PS3 was a price cut to £250 FROM £300. The 360S also received a price cut. I believe the OLD Super Elites used to be more than £200 before they decided to do a stock clearance.

Correction BOTH console received a £50 price reduction. The XBOX 360 super elite retailed for £250, The PS3 retailed for £300 both went down £50.

As do I, The SUPER ELITES not the Elites. The super Elites have had a 250GB hard drive and was CLOSER to the current 'S' model, the Super Elites DID not retail for £200 the same price as the normal elites but £50 more. The hard drive was 250GB.

Well I know casual gamers are going to want to move up to next gen style of consoles eventually. If they have a nice LCD HDTV, but no HD devices to go with it, then they would gladly pay couple hundreds extra just for a HD gaming system. And for the casual gamers point of view, I think PS3 would be a more better option since it adds blu-ray and free web-browsing to their TV. Yeah I think PS3 seems to be selling a lot more World Wide. Xbox 360 is a legit HD Console, but I'm pretty sure a large number of PS3's that were sold, were bought for the Blu-Ray feature. If both had Blu-Ray play back the sales could look very different. I'm glad Sony took a gamble at launch when they decided to make their systems expensive just to have blu-ray feature. Imagine if Blu-Ray lost the HD battle, that could've been bad for PS3.
If no newer format of HD movies comes out next gen, then hopefully Xbox 720 would have blu-ray feature also.

PS3 also has rechargeable batteries, upgradeable HDD(360 can only upgrade with 360 S HDD's), built in power-brick, Blu-Rays, free web-browsing and Free PSN. Sorry I don't want to sound like a fanboy, I have a 360 also. But don't try to bash on the PS3's features when Sony took a lost keeping most of the features. PS3 Slim also upgraded their CPU didn't they? 65nm to 45nm something like that.

Also it was needed because they were at a loss on every console, so they needed to start building with less costly parts to begin making a profit although they are still only making around $14 a console.

Bit of a flamebait article to be fair mentioning the PS3 slim without any solid numbers but I got my 'S' on Saturday to replace a downstairs 60GB pro that I'm selling. I have to say that the new unit is very cool. Sexy Alienware looks, the chrome edged grills look mean and the thing is super quiet. With a disc in the drive its barely audible (much like my fat PS3). With the game installed its effectively silent. Not too much heat coming out of the side port. It really is a great machine and what my other Xenon (xclamp fixed)launch model should have been. Highly recommend it for an upgrade as the trade in deals are really good at the mo. If you bought a N router and 250GB drive it would cost you a similar amount as the diff from selling/trading in your old unit. MS and the retailers are clever and are pitching the product with the trade ins perfectly.

I do think the drive is a bit slower when installing games. Forza3 and MW2 seemed to take longer but nothing to worry about.

Incidentally I live near London and most shops have a larger XBox section. HMV on Oxford St today in london has 360S advertising everywhere you look and as soon as you walk in. They are pitching it as an upgrade as they cunningly display the data transfer cable on the same displays along with their trade in deals.

Clever MS, clever retailers and a massive user base in the UK will ensure that this machine sells well in my opinion.

guys, there's a simple answer : the fat ps3 came with a 80gb and had wifi built-in already. No new features were added with the ps3 slim, so you were getting the same product, just smaller. With the 360 S, new features came with it that should have been there since launch (wifi) and the RROD is supposed to be clearly repaired. there's more than one reason to buy it compared to the ps3 slim. the new SKU was a must for microsoft to relaunch sales and these new features are welcomed by many gamers.

"here today, ready for tomorrow"? no... it should be, "here today, should of been here yesterday". i bought a used 360 when halo 3 came out cause that's the only reason i wanted one. i sold it shortly after when i got bored with it, to buy some ps3 games for my ps3. now, when reach comes out, i will be buying another used 360 to play it on. i refuse to spend 300 dollars on a new console that should have been here since day one. now i understand if Microsoft wanted to release a broken system at launch and then upgrade it with features people actually wanted in the future... ex. (hdmi, better hardware, usb drive support, 360 s)... but i more so approve of Sony's $600 behemoth that had hdmi at launch, supported usb drives at launch, and had the SD, ms, cf card slots. and then, to make the ps3 more affordable they cut some features that didn't appeal to the masses and launched the slim. and that way those of you who have been waiting for a price cut could now purchase it. now Microsoft releases the 360 s and everyone is upgrading their consoles, and they are getting a huge payday on something that they should have launched in the beginning. And the sad part is... that everyone trading in their 360s for a 360 s if falling for it. Like i said "here today, should have been here yesterday."

obviously with MS saying it's "RROD proof" there's gonna be a lot of people rushing out to replace their current system. Lets see if game sales, Live users, etc. go up as well.

Well another factor is, The original PS3 was pretty cool looking, and didnt have common hardware problems so them running out to get a new one was slow

Xbox, if you had an old model, this one looked like a beauty to upgrade too given the old models rep and track record

Considering the PS3 slim saw a price drop but also had a downgrade overall, while the Xbox 360s is an actual upgrade, people seem to be responding to the value. I know a lot of people really wanted that wifi in there and now they can have it at no extra cost, along with a larger HDD and no Red Ring or anything like that.

So good on Microsoft. I have quite a few British friends on XBL who have the new 360s and love it.

Downgraded ps3 is still better then a 360s what is your point. No bluray so it's still dated it's in the inside not the outside. Oh look it looks Ailenware it has chrome omg drool /s how much can you fit on your DVD 6.8 that's pretty whack if you ask me.

Again 360 related article and the ps3 trolls have invaded, if anyone is on the verge of buying a console and don't know which to buy, stick around here a few weeks and I think you will see that the ps3 fanboys have nothing to do but sit on N4G all day, that would tell me there is no games to play on the ps3, but judge for yourself.
