GTA4 Officially delayed untill April 2008

Take-Two is reducing its fiscal 2007 guidance primarily to reflect the movement of the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from the fourth quarter of fiscal 2007 to fiscal 2008, due to additional development time required to complete the title. The title is now planned for release in the Company's second quarter of fiscal 2008. Additionally, Take-Two is updating third quarter and fiscal year 2007 guidance to reflect the movement of Manhunt 2 for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system and the Wii out of the third quarter and the fiscal year.

I had too many titles to worry about this fall, and with this moving to the spring it has less of a chance of getting bumped.

The GTA series has always been fun, but the late releases were starting to get boring for me. This game was in danger of getting cut from my list. Moving it to Spring might increase its chances because it probably wouldn't have got much of my play time alongside Halo 3, Bioshock and Mass Effect.

Plus, it gives them time to get it right. So it's a good thing.

I was looking for the Rumor headline up there but couldn't find it.
with all the games coming out this holiday some of these delays do not surprise me at all.

A lot of these publishers are now looking at the Bottom-line for when some of their games drop. Dropping a big anticipated game, when there is a huge drout, is the best strategy. Pinning your game against some other big blockbusters will not sell as well, so pubs won't make as much as they can.

We all know the big games coming out this fall/winter, GTA4 was one of them but have not been the most talked about. Like they said the game is probably not ready.

hey it's all good, the games I most want to play are still coming out on the 360. It's looking like 2008 will also have big titles from both consoles. Plus, I can't afford all these games in the last 2 months of the year.

1. Square, you can tell was a bit afraid about the PS3's user-base. Plus, I think FF13 will be out fall 2008 or spring 2009. Because it always come out in Japan first, then like a year later, to North America and europe gets the shaft, as always. Same a FFVII(currently playing and had to wait a year)

2. As for MGS, that game will come when there are some serious drouts, but will compete with KZ 2 , I think.

I really think this is part strategy, and part publisher, telling the developers to polish this game.

on that $50 mil it paid for Downloadable Content. At this pace, by the time Rockstar releases that junk people will be playing Gears 2 on their 360s and R:FOM 2 on their PS3s to even care. Not to mention that by that point games on the 360 and the PS3 will probably make GTAIV look like a crappy xbox or Ps2 game.

Halo is not a system seller the way you make it out to be, FPS has always done better on the 360 and would never pull a consumer. You need proof PS2 had a 15 million lead on 360 before halo1 came out and 110 million by the time the 360 launch...Yeah it's such a great system seller, that's why you never hear any PS fans wanting halo,,,never,never,never....I like halo but it's not the epic game you make it out to be, I'll be buying nothing but PS3 games this fall and I own both systems...It's about taste and 125 million people couldn't be wrong

I think the biggest technical challenge in GTA4 is streaming a world of that size and detail - and doing it without a HDD must be harder than not. Additionally the PS3s processor is more geared towards the type of things we keep hearing about like NPCs doing a lot more than walking around etc.

I'm perfectly willing to admit that there could be (probably are) hurdles on both platforms that have lead to the delay. Maybe Rockstar needs more time to get up to speed on the PS3 - that's fine. I just think the no HDD issue is the most daunting and that, had the game not gone simultaneous muli-plat, they may have been able to ship this year.

Because most people would of bought GTA IV on XBOX 360 this year, because it has Halo 3 also and XBOX 360 is cheaper than PS3. And Blu ray isn't a factor yet.

This single quote got me rather excited to be honest, 6 month(ish) delay.....further experience with both consoles (will benefit PS3 more of course). PS3 should of had a worldwide price cut meaning more of the GTA loving PS2 crowd will be able to join the ranks so to speak. And of course 360 will of had a cut. This is a huge decision...and i think it could be the right one. We should be used to delays to be honest, big or small it seems most games can fall foul to delays. I think that Microsoft's point with the "perfect storm" business was that Madden, Halo, and GTA are all proven, best-selling franchises. I thought this was funny because both GTA and Madden sold far far better on PS2, but I digress.

Anyway, I think that Bioshock and Mass Effect are both going to rock - I'm certainly looking forward to them. But they are both new, unproven IPs that, sadly, are unlikely to see the kind of mainstream success that GTA and company enjoy. I'm not saying Bioshock and Mass Effect are going to do poorly - I just don't think they are going to do "Halo" type sale - which is a shame because they are both probably better games.

This is very bad news for game retailers because the effect games like this usually have is that they attract people into the games stores just because of the buzz and hype that they generate. Especially, since this was a multi-platform game it was sure to attract a lot of buzz and hype. Now the only game that can really do that for retailers this year might be Halo 3.

I don't know about a console traditionally better to develope for would hold the game back the same could be said that the PS3 has caused the delay causing the game with the PS3 version runing like sh*t while the devs are trying to find ways to get it to look the same- never showing the PS3 version etc.

umm yes, but why do you think its a bad idea. i mean, you probably didnt even think for a second about how much halo 3 will help the system in sales. so it would only make more sense if the only other huge game that was coming out around the short area of time was pushed back some or delayed to make the game better....
the idea of Microsoft paying them to push the game back was an idea that is reasonable enough because Microsoft is the leading next gen company that has paid the most money to get exclusives from other consoles on their console (it almost worked on MGS4, it might even still be in the works....but as for some other games MS has payed for were UT3, Assassins Creed, probably gta back then before san andres came out on xbox) and they did pay rockstar some 50 million for extra content for the 360 version of the game.

that truly FK'S things up for me. Halo 3 n' GTA4 were the only games I was planning on purchasing (while renting all the others) this fall. GTA4 would have mixed up the action tremendously (for me at least) in between the FPS' Halo 3 n' Bioshock. we all know the ps3 is two weeks behind, and that it's somewhat a difficult platform to work on...we've only seen the 360 version, and the lighting and graphics look amazing, i wonder if their gonna have the same problem PGR4 is having fitting it all on DVD...so i wonder how much stuff they may have to cut back on or take out. games are only gonna get bigger, more detailed, and take up more space. maybe sony made a smart choice going blue-ray. they could put it on multiple dics, or put it as downloadable content, but my problem with xbox is who wants to fork out more money when you've already had to pay $60 for the game. sounds like a rip off when it should already be in the game they just didn't have enough space to fit it all in.

Why can't anyone admit its the Halo effect? You can hate the game all you want. Halo 3 is going to completely dominate 07. Yes GTA is a huge franchise, arguably even bigger than Halo, but why take that chance and have it cut into potential profits? Some ppl are mention the 50 mill that M$ paid for exclusive content, this might actually work out in their favour. You have to look at the average gamer, not the hardcore enthusiast that we are. Some ppl can only afford to get one game every so often and since Halo 3 is coming out first thats the game they'll scoop up first. Both systems have enough heat coming out for the remainder of the year and well into next year. Personally I think it worked out better for M$ because sony's lineup for 08 is going to move alot of consoles. M$ lineup for the remainder of the year is amazing. While I agree that halo is set to be a fantastic game, what xbox fanboys need to realise is that GTA is a system seller, whereas I believe that while the sales of Halo will be great, it won't shift as much hardware as GTA.

And what sony fanboys need to realise is that no matter which way you spin it, the 360 has a better line up for this year.

Both these points are no big deal for anyone other than fanboys - why can't you guys just accept it.

For once, I was actually really looking forward to a GT game - the previous games never really appealed to me. But at least, I am happy with the fact that, delays aside this is one of the greatest line up of games FOR BOTH platforms I have ever saw.

Both platforms have fantastic line ups- but I still stand by the fact that the 360 has slightly better line up this holiday season - now just because you can spout a PS3 heavy release list means squat to me other than showing you obvious PS3 fanboy-ness.

I would say it is a few things that have put the release date back.

I would say the showing of most of the software at the E3 was of a high standard, maybe a little better than what Take Two was expecting.

The games for all consoles this fall are looking pretty damn good. Even the multi formats are looking good (well some of them are).

Differences between consoles and SKU's. This is no flame baiting, if it seems like it is, it is not intended that way, but to program a sandbox game and put it over 2 disks would be kinda hard. Now they could have like one disk that installs on the Hard Drive with the movies on there leaving the other disk for the game. That works out well for most XBox 360 owners, but not all. Microsoft having invested 50 million is going to want it to work for ALL 360's, this will take more time. With the PS3 it has the storage, but is a little bit more fiddly in the programming department.

And I do think there will be some sort of censorship. It is very sad when an adult cannot make an informed choice of what he watches or plays. I know some irresponsible parents will buy it for their kids, but how about fining them instead of ruining a perfectly good game.

One thing is for sure I do think it will effect sales (especially if another sandbox game happens along) and hope that the wait will be worth it.

This site is getting worse for fanboys. I own as PS3 and I had a PSone and PS2 but I did buy an Xbox because of Halo & PGR - I loved the 1st Halo, and although I won't buy an X360 just for Halo3 I would love it if it was on PS3 - absolutely love it - and I'm not a huge FPS fan either. So despite what people say not every PS3 owner hates Halo. If I wasn't married with a kid now then I probably would buy a x360 - but I have other priorities now so will stick with my PS3 and be happy with it.

and all these people thinking it's the ps3 why it's delayed.. thats funnay as hell. i mean think about it. with all those multiplatformer games that are to be released on ps3 and 360, those that have been delayed were released onm the 360 ahead of the ps3. and considering all that money MS is giving take-2 and rock star, they would have just done what every other dev has been doing and just release ahead of the ps3. but that isn't the case. if anything this is clearly that they just could meet the goal of making it a 2007 release. with that being said. we arent missing anything big. becaus now our 2008 looks better with a more complete game. even though i'm gonna pass on this because i'm not really a fan of GTA. with that being said alot of us are gonna save a little extra cash

as for the ps3 we have a slew of cool first party exclusives and some excellent 3rd party exclusives to keep us busy, and games like Ratchet are among the biggest sellers in a ps franchise so we wont be missing anything. as for this Rockstar was smart insead of dissapointing gamers everwhere with a broken ass GTA that cant live up to there expectations.
