When will the remakes end?

As both a fan of film and video games, the synergy between them is understandable. While film is now churning out remake after remake, the world of video games is doing the same. There have been rumors swirling that Sony will do HD remakes of their classic games ICO and Shadow of the Collosus. With the constant rumors that Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy 7 getting the full HD makeup, one has to wonder where this will end.

Who cares? Some games are worth remaking. It's not like Hollywood where they just remake a film based on the core concept and forget the rest. It's a pretty good idea, but however, it does start to need getting done to more obscure titles.

well said, i myself didn't get the chance to play the sly cooper games so im glad that i get to, also hoping for Ico and SOTC remake as well.

when will these useless articles end?

if it wasnt for remakes. i would of never played gow. yes i missed it on the ps2.

FURY__UNLEASHED5060d ago (Edited 5060d ago )

Same here. I missed GoW 1 and 2 on the PS2 and I kind of needed to know the GoW story to play GoW3. GoW Collection solved that problem easily. I also got 2 more platinum trophies thanks to it.

SotC would look STUNNING remastered in HD. Hell, it already rivals Crackdown 1 and 2 even in its SD PS2 form.

HD remastered + Trophies = Epic Win!

... I love the remakes, if done right (obviously)

The PS3 is my first Playstation, so I missed out on a lot of classics, which are now slowly being remade into HD for me to discover and enjoy.

Many other people might never have had a SegaCD, a Saturn, a Dreamcast, the original Xbox, an Amiga, a SNES, etc etc... so it's just fantastic that some of the classics are being reintroduced for a new audience to discover and love them :)

However, I do agree with the article somewhat, in that the remake does have to be at least as good or better than the original.
The author mentions the HD Turtles game, and I feel many people felt a bit disappointed with that, especially those of us who had very warm memories of the original.

Personally, I feel bad about the Monkey Island remake. The sprites just look absolutely HORRIBLE. It's obviously a great game, but the original actually looks BETTER.

Monkey Island 2 seems to have rectified that mistake somewhat, with a bit better sprites and also the option to play the original version with voices, but still. You always hope for gorgeous graphics which really do the characters and the game justice.

There are more examples of remakes that didn't live up to their potential (sadly), but overall I absolutely do love remakes (if done right):)

LastDance5060d ago

The author needs to define the difference between re-MAKE and re-RELEASE.

I don't think it means what he think it means.

exnihilonihilfit5059d ago

Between remaking and remastering/rereleasing. The film industry creates a lot of crappy remakes, that are distinct films from the originals, the gaming industry thus far has only remastered and rereleased certain works that have not been altered in anyway except as to improve their graphics. It's also a load of BS to complain about something that doesn't really happen all that often.

I love the idea of the remakes.

If you're new to the franchises you get some fabulous games to play if you want to upgrade your old copies and enjoy HD you win too.

If you don't want them, don't buy them but don't call for them NOT to be made.

ClownBelt5060d ago

"When will the remakes end?"

When people stop demanding it.

The way it was handled was so dumb. One shots in melee...your teammates are to ostupid to get away from its attack. So you most often end up alone in a certain fight.

Two words, one accessory....Safety Bit

Needing an accessory to keep a.i from dying and only one of them isnt great.

Original Final Fantasy 7 - Is it Worth Playing in 2024?

Final Fantasy 7 has come back under the spotlight thanks to the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but is it worth replaying the original?

ravens5238d ago

Got to Zacks part in 7 Rebirth. Said f it. Finishing my game in 7 og. Just got to part 2 yesterday. I also got Crisis Core... So it'll be a while before I'm back to Rebirth. I just keep thinking about it too smh, want to get back to playing it. Not till I know Zacks story though. I beat 7 og sooooooo long ago, it's crazy going through it again and remembering things.

MrNinosan38d ago (Edited 38d ago )

Got to Zacks part in Rebirth?
You mean you started the game and turned it off?
The game starts with Zack...

ravens5237d ago

... Really 🤓 lol. His second part, I've played for 80hrs lmao. <---- PS5 Run time, probably not all game time. You guys know how it goes.

VIK212137d ago (Edited 37d ago )

Did you not ever play the OG FF7? After you recruit Vincent, later in the game, disc 3, return to that basement and look at the pod, there's a whole Zack story that'll trigger as a memory.... it's well hidden in the game and a lot of things regarding Zack are cleared up. FF7 Crisis Core is basically an extend feature of that hidden flashback... It took me years to discover it back then lol

MrNinosan37d ago

@ravens52
80 hours in Rebirth by doing everything, and you should've reached Zacks story about 5 times 🤣

ravens5237d ago

Ye I kno that's y I said not all gameplay time. But also I am very anal when it comes to exploring.

ravens5237d ago

Not to mention fighting Titan at his full strength. Hours spent trying still haven't succeeded. Found all 3 ruins but I'ma masochist when it comes to games.

Barlos38d ago

Very much so. Graphically it's dated but the story and the gameplay haven't aged a day. It's still one of my all time favourite RPGs and for me is better than Remake in some ways.

Barlos38d ago (Edited 38d ago )

It always takes me back to Christmas 1997, I got it as a gift and I was blown away when I played it. I couldn't believe games could look that good. The combination of pre rendered backgrounds and FMV really made it stand out. It definitely still has a certain charm that modern games can't replicate.

I can't imagine people will still be talking about Remake and Rebirth in 27 years.

Tapani37d ago

Fully agreed. To me the atmosphere, pacing, gameplay and music are all better than in the remake.

Rebel_Scum38d ago

Yes, play this, skip remake, start rebirth for new players.

I_am_Batman38d ago

Skip Remake? That's terrible advice.

leahcim37d ago

Remake is so amazing, pure FFVII Love, play it on PS5 please! aww the graphics the battles, the music... a dream come true.

Rebel_Scum37d ago (Edited 37d ago )

I disagree Batman
