Even With “Plus” Xbox Live is Still King

Sony’s PSN Plus is a nice thing for owners of the PlayStation 3. You get a yearly rental on some titles and discounts on others. You get automatic updates which is pretty nifty not to mention extras like exclusive beta invites and demos. Why Plus even gives you that infomercial known as Qore. For free. Yippee! All this still doesn’t compare to the goodness of Xbox Live.

PSN+ IS BETTER THAN XBOX LIVE.

fishd5073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

http://www.gamerzines.com/x...

MS know their customers damn well

"Paying for multiplayer? Oh no, that's not good....... I mean no offence hardcore gamers, you've kinda been wrong a lot for the past ten years."

The mofo basicaly said paying for onlineplay is good
smh

ABizzel15073d ago

First of all PS+ is nothing like Xbox live, there are not the same subscriptions at all, the only thing they have in common is paying $50 a year.

If you compare XBL to anything it has to be regular PSN, which XBL is better since it does have more features that make your online experience better, but you can never leave the fact out the PSN is FREE. If I was to rate both service I would give XBL an 8/10, and PSN a 7/10.

PS+ is nothing but a way for you to try out content, get free stuff, and get discounts on add-ons as of right now, but as stated by Sony beta access, early demos, and many more features will be added to PS+ down the pipeline. In that respect there's nothing on XBL that can compete with PS+, because they have nothing like that.

If you just have to compare the two, like foolish people do, then I would say both service are equal 8/10, but are completely different like the consoles the services are on. As of now PS+ has more potential, with the promise of more things to come.

I wish PS+ would make all the content available from the start, so you don't have to wait each month for a new set of discounts. They should have had a bunch of content from the beginning, and then add new content each month after that.

"Standard dedicated servers for all major online game for lagfree LAN like online play"

free of lag...? are you serious? lol!

ReservoirDog3165073d ago

In its current form, I don't think PSN+ was even trying to compete with what's offered in XBL.

What I mean is, XBL is giving you access to playing online and other extras and PSN+ is just giving you free stuff and deals.

I don't think they compare.

Dollar to dollar though, I think PSN+ gives you more for your money if you're a heavy spender online.

Its obvious that you dont actually have Xbox Live.

For Gold members, Xbox Live has a "Deal of the Week" sale EVERY single week, where they offer an arcade game, add-on, etc at half off or at a good discount.

Sometimes, especially around holidays, Xbox Live will offer a bundle pack of add-ons( for example, recently Live bundled all Gears 2 maps together at a discount price of 800 MS points, which is just ten dollars). This is also only available to Gold members.

Gold members also get early access to betas and demos. Last year i downloaded the Fight Night Round 4 demo early because i was a Gold member weeks before it was made public to everyone else.

Gold members also get small miscellaneous pirks here and there too.

The thing that takes the cake though, is that even Silver(free) members have access to cross-game chat. PS+ STILL doesnt have that, which, in my opinion, is the most important feature. I dont know about other N4G people, but i have friends. A decent amount at that. I want to talk to my buddies as i explore open-world games and scream at my TV screen when im losing in Halo 3.

PS+ is a good deal. But. Do not say that Live is not good enough to rival PS+.

Hideo_Kojima5072d ago

Seriously I think PSN alone for FREE is better than Xbox Gold for $50 a year...

that would mean $250 if you have had Xbox Gold since the launch.

BigPenguin5072d ago

You are fucking retarded, I will now explain why.

You just said Live gold has a SALE A WEEK, that is only available to gold members. You obviously do not know that PSN has multiple sales every week, not just one, and it is offered to everyone. So already right there live is worse. PSN+ gives discounts on new DLC that comes out, such as the fat princess expansion pack, which came out this week and is cheaper for + subscribers. Next time you bitch and moan about someone not knowing about the other systems service, you may want to make sure you are not talking out of your ass as well.

Early demo's? No, you mean silver gets LATE demos. Live gold demos and PSN demos come out at the same time for most multiplat(that have demo's on both systems, sometimes exclusive content = demo only one system) games. So its not that you are getting demos early, its that MS fucks over silver members by giving them late. So once again, know what you are talking about.

Thirdly, you are correct, MS has cross game chat. How is your 1 and 1 video chat going though? PSN has 6 person video chat. Each system has things the other does not in this regard. And they are important to different people. Once again, do some research.

Finally I have one more thing to say; XBL: BigRoundPenguin PSN: BigPenguin
Those of you who care to check will see that I have Live gold, and I do not have PSN+. So go ahead, call me a fanboy. This message also goes for everyone who I did not directly respond to, tell me I am wrong, just have the facts to back it up. I am tired of the bullshit that is constantly spouted.

Yea, let's call it 'even'.

Sony, PS3, and PSN:

* Free online play for every single PS3 owner

* Standard dedicated servers for all major online game for lagfree LAN like online play

* Massive player counts thanks to dedicated servers. 40, 64, and even 256 player online games

* Developer friendly for free content and MODs

* The massively successful 15+ million Home online world

Microsoft and the Xbox 360:

* Forced 50 dollar a year online fees. You can't play with anyone online without paying Microsoft for the privilege to do so.

* Online fees add 250 dollars to the price of the console over 5 years

* Laggy and outdated P2P networking for all major games

* Tiny online player counts. Only 5vs5 for Gears of War. Only 8vs8 for Halo 3

* Creepy Nintendo Mii ripoff avatars as a absurdly lame answer to Sony's massive 3D Home online world

* Hostile to developer free content and MODs

Sony is teaching Microsoft how to do online right. Why isn't anyone at Microsoft learning from Sony?

KingKiff5073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

Bubbles + for you.

It seems absurd to pay for online these days.

At least PC, PS3 and Wii are all free :-)

@ Vicodin - lol, I would have said something like that but I fear you will be blocked as a troll for that one. I don't want anymore 24 hour bans :-P but good point none the less.

Vicodin5073d ago

"It seems absurd to pay for online these days."

Microsoft has no one to blame but themselves.

They targeted a niche segment of the console market of hardcore Sony haters who are willing to put up with anything as long as they see it as some part of their holy war against Sony.

Lag filled P2P based online?

Being forced to pay for online play?

Junk formats like HD-DVD?

Poorly implemented PS3 EyeToy style motion controls?

Disc scratching?

Tiny first party studios?

Buying replacement after replacement console from the RRoD?

Jet engine loud console?

Giant Ghostbusters style external powerbrick?

Overpriced harddrive upgrades?

Graphics hardware so weak that it is the first console ever to be forced to rely on claiming 'teh multiplats look teh best'

The tiny Xbox fan niche of the console market will put up with anything Microsoft does. What incentive does Microsoft have to put out anything but junk? Junk console hardware, junk online service, etc. There are some 20-25 million Xbox fans who will lap it up.

And the rest of the 200 million or so console gamers in the world will continue to just look on in disgust.

Godmars2905073d ago

If MS screwed up anywhere, aside from general production, it was in fomenting the negative aspects of fanboyism.

Sure Sony has used the persona of KB to poke fun at the 360 and Wii, but his e3 speech was aimed at gamers in general. I seriously misquoted Sony a few days ago about a comment they said about Nintendo when actually they were reaching a had out against something the Big N said about 3D glasses. And the truth is that you rarely hear anything negative from Nintendo about the competition, you almost always hear it from MS. A company that can't get out half a compliment for two insults.

TripleAAARating5073d ago

LOL..... Man!!... that's TOTAL fucking ownage right there....bubbles up!!

sid4gamerfreak5073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

i agree with most of ur points except the graphics hardware. You do realize that the gpu in the xbox 360 is better than the ps3 in most aspects? The 360 has more memory bandwidth and better gpu shader operations per second than the ps3

http://forum.pcvsconsole.co...

http://www.guruht.com/2008/...

You know why ps3 games look so good? Because it is fully optimized and has talented devs who can use the ps3s power to their advantage. If they were first party talented devs on the 360 and fully utilized the power, trust me, the whole scenario would be different. Also software plays a big role, Without the software and services to power the console, even the most powerful hardware becomes inconsequential. And ps3 leads in that aspect as well.

Edit: 4 disagrees already. Shows how ppl r in complete denial even when the facts r right there

Edit @vicodin: I know im not saying that xbox 360 games LOOK better, im saying that the gpu is BETTER than the ps3. I agree that the ps3 has destroyed 360. All im saying is that ur mentioning of weak hardware graphics on the 360 is WRONG. The hardware is strong, it hasnt been utilized and optimized. The hardware is capable, the devs or third part working on the 360 are not.

Has it gone through ur thick fanboy head? To shorten what i said, the hardware is capable the software and devs working on the 360 r not.

Use ur brain not ur heart

Jab-dees-nuts5073d ago

I agree. Everyone is trashing the plus member ship but look at what happened when the ps3 first came out. Everyone yelled and wrote countless articles stating the ps3 is going to die out and look how much it has grown, every good thing that comes in this world takes time, i didnt expect "plus" to come out guns blazing, its not sony's style unlike the western cowboys we are, for us its always bigger more powerful guns but we lack the patience to get it done right the first time. Sony's plus membership is gonna be king someday and i have confidence in sony to deliver like they have done in the past. Xbots need to chill out and let sony be sony....im no nastrodamaus but i have a vision that once sony's online gaming starts dominating xbox live microsoft will launch a new xbox console. if this happends someone please make an article about my vision lol either consoles are good but microsoft threats its gamers like shit

IHateYouFanboys5073d ago

" Standard dedicated servers for all major online game for lagfree LAN like online play "

how are those dedicated servers going for Uncharted 2? oh right, its P2P. its also 'only' 5 vs 5 multiplayer.

"Massive player counts thanks to dedicated servers. 40, 64, and even 256 player online games "

you say that like its a hardware thing that only the PS3 can do lol. Frontline: Fuels of War is 50 players online on the 360. and in mag, while yes it has 256 players at once, theres rarely - if ever - more than 32 actually in the same place at the same time.

"The massively successful 15+ million Home online world "

im sorry, did you just call Home SUCCESSFUL?! wow. to call Home anything other than a giant waste of years of work is being way to generous. 15 million ACCOUNTS have tried it (not unique users btw) but fewer than 1 million actively use it.

"Laggy and outdated P2P networking for all major games "
P2P is just as good as dedicated servers 99% of the time. it can even be better. try telling the 800 000+ people who play MW2 every single day online on the 360 that its laggy and outdated. or try telling the 700 000+ halo 3 players that its laggy and outdated. or perhaps try telling Valve that their dedicated servers for Left 4 Dead/L4D2 arent actually dedicated servers. im sure theyd feel rightly stupid that their game is actually running P2P even though their dedicated servers tell them otherwise.

"Tiny online player counts. Only 5vs5 for Gears of War. Only 8vs8 for Halo 3 "

so 5 vs 5 is BAD for Gears, a tactical 'up close and personal' team based shooter, but is GOOD for Uncharted 2, a straight up shooter?

developers choose their player numbers on everything APART FROM how many players the network can possibly handle. they choose it based on how they want the game to be played, how big they want to make their maps, what TYPE of game it is, etc. maximum amount the network can handle never even comes into it.

Vicodin5073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

@sid4gamerfreak

How is it possible people like you still exist? The PS3 has destroyed the Xbox 360 so completely in graphics that most Xbox fans have long since move on to pretending that they "never cared about shallow stuff like graphics anyway".

There never has been another console that as so totally destroyed a competitor like the PS3 has done to the 360 this gen.

Lighting
Materials
Animation
Screen resolution
Number of objects on the screen

There isn't a single graphical area that the PS3 doesn't destroy the 360.

In every previous gen consoles from the same gen always had areas they were more powerful or capable than competitors. The 360 is the first console ever to be so weak, poorly designed, and underpowered that there isn't a single area it can point to and claim it is more capable.

Edit:

Do we laugh or cry at your desperation?

You filled your head with garbage about the graphical capabilities of the 360 from PC fanboy sites like beyond3d for years and instead of acting like a grown up and realizing what an idiot you were for falling for the avalanche of lies and BS spread about the 360 and the PS3, you instead desperately try to cling to your idiotic and manifestly stupid claims.

The PS3 has utterly annihilated the 360 because its graphics hardware is simply that much more powerful and well designed compared to Microsoft and its complete lack of console hardware design experience rushing out a cheap and poorly designed console due to the marketplace flop of the first Xbox

vs

'Secret' and 'untapped' graphical power in the 360 that no one has been able utilize despite Microsoft's billions to pay for the top developers in the world in even a single game.

LOL!

Golly! Wonder which of the two is REALITY?

wicko5073d ago

While the 360 GPU is faster than the PS3 GPU, did you know that the Cell processor was originally intended to replace the GPU? The original plan was to have 2 cell processors, one for rendering, the other for all other tasks. For obvious reasons (expensive) it was scrapped. The Cell is a floating point powerhouse, which is exactly what a GPU is. The cell can perform rendering tasks instead of the GPU, meaning the PS3 is not limited by its GPU for rendering. If you watch the Killzone 2 developer videos they talk about this and discuss a bit about how their engine works.

The 360 cannot do the same thing, and the reason is because the CPU on the 360 is too similar to a general purpose CPU. They aren't well suited for graphics processing, but instead are designed to be multipurpose, able to accomplish many different kinds of tasks at a relatively good speed. GPUs are designed to perform very specific tasks at very high speeds.

This is the reason that PS3 exclusives end up looking so good, because the first party developers are able to implement crazy engines that take advantage of the Cell for rendering.

Vicodin5073d ago

@wicko

"did you know that the Cell processor was originally intended to replace the GPU"

That is a story made up by fanboys(from beyond3d if I remember). Sony did experiment with various Cell configurations but there never was a time where Sony ever wanted to build the PS3 with two Cell chips.

ApocalypseShadow5073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

no offense, but i still think you are one and the same.

but that was two total @ss whooping posts.

major props.

EDIT:to i hate you fanboys

so you are saying every xbox 360 developer is choosing to not make ANY GAME near sony's **AT LAUNCH** 20vs20.5 years into 360's life and developers are still choosing to make limited player counts.....okay....

as for home,15 million out of almost 40 million is a success in my book as it is FREE to use.log on at anytime and there is people there in every area.and sony reps say that it's making profits.if they make even one dollar over what they spent to make home,it is a success.vicodin and ringmaster destroyed any comeback that will be made in this thread.

Jinxstar5073d ago

I keep saying this then wondering why people keep saying XBL is better. I'm glad you posted it so I didn't have to waste my time again. Good post.

"'Secret' and 'untapped' graphical power in the 360 that no one has been able utilize despite Microsoft's billions to pay for the top developers in the world in even a single game. "

Man, wth is wrong with u? What sid4gamerfreak and what ur saying r completely different. sids saying that if they were more first party devs for the 360, they could have optimized the 360 even further. There is a lack of talented FIRST PARTY devs on the 360 u moron. Microsoft may pay billions to those third party devs who work on all 3 platforms. Get it? God its like explaining it to a 10 year old

"You filled your head with garbage about the graphical capabilities of the 360 from PC fanboy sites like beyond3d for years and instead of acting like a grown up and realizing what an idiot you were for falling for the avalanche of lies and BS spread about the 360 and the PS3, you instead desperately try to cling to your idiotic and manifestly stupid claims. Wow, u sir need to control ur temper. Firstly, those r the specs written on paper on those websites, no opinion has been granted but just seeing those specs u would realize that the 360 has the advantage in terms of raw gpu processing. Oh sorry, I forgot u cant read! Damn, no wonder, ive wasted 2 minutes of my time ill never get back seeing ur idiotic incoherent rambling which at no time makes any sense or proof. Atleast sid has proof. Do u? No? then stfu

The textures r better on the ps3 than 360. Theres higher res textures on the ps3 than 360 mostly thanks to the blu ray and cell processor

http://www.technobuffalo.co...

look at this video. It says everything in an unbiased way.

JustTheFactsMr5073d ago

Vicodin said most of what needs to be said. In addition since YOU have been told this probably a hundred times now and keep ignoring things like facts. The Cell which handles plenty of the graphics work has 256MB memory that runs 4.5x as fast as the 360. 4.5x. PS3 devs actually don't need to be that talented with hardware that runs circles around the 360. Go try reading why computer systems have little things called caches. Slow main system RAM. Cell doesn't have that issue since it's RAM is matched to the CPU.

@IHateFanboys
PS3 has plenty. 360 has one. And it's actually a PC that was so much work to overcome the limitations of Live nobody has done it again. LOL. MAG is 256 running off a PS3. Go search and you will find videos with lots more than 32 in one area. LOTS more. Also much cheaper for Sony to run their servers because they can support more users per machine. You get to pay $50 for MS lack of scalability.

P2P is just as good if you don't want to support a lot of users. LOL. Like Live. You don't even have a clue what the difference is do you? Here is a mind bender for you. Warhawk has dedicated servers and even uses P2P all in the same game. Crazy eh? Player-hosted servers set up by the publishers are not dedicated servers like PSN. Publishers also have to pay MS for Live licenses which is why they want YOU to host the servers. So they can piggyback on your Live account session. You get suckered at every turn and think it's for some other reason. Gotta love the power of propaganda on the uneducated.

"maximum amount the network can handle never even comes into it."
a single 360 is intentionally limited to 31 sessions by MS. Much less in practice. Obviously. Wonder why. Hmmm.

Leoakathepaw5073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

lol i bet vicorin and many other console fanboys dont know what a gpu even is

otherwise they wpuldnt be arguing and disagreeing when the majority of websites saying that the 360 gpu is better than the ps3 gpu.

Graphics and gpu r different things retards

Shader Model
Xbox 360 - Shader Model 3.0+ / Unified Shader Architecture
PS3 - Shader Model 3.0 / Discrete Shader Architecture

Xbox 360 has the advantage in most cases..

the cell compensates for the gpu but we arent adressing that issue r we? Vicroin said the 360 has a weak gpu and thats wrong

IHateYouFanboys5073d ago

the PS3 has 2 games that support 50 players or more. the 360 has 1. hardly worth making a big song and dance over, is it?

@Apocalypse Shadow: "5 years into 360's life and developers are still choosing to make limited player counts.....okay.... "

so why is Uncharted 2 only 5 vs 5 hey? why isnt it 256 players too?

epic lols at you.

Leoakathepaw5073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

since uve mentioned the cell, lets see

u ps3 fanboys no nothing. only smart pc gamers enlighten u and frankly, u dont deserve it...

The Xbox 360 processor was designed to give game developers the power that they actually need, in an easy to use form. The Cell processor has impressive streaming floating-point power that is of limited use for games.

The majority of game code is a mixture of integer, floating-point, and vector math, with lots of branches and random memory accesses. This code is best handled by a general purpose CPU with a cache, branch predictor, and vector unit.

The Cell's seven DSPs (what Sony calls SPEs) have no cache, no direct access to memory, no branch predictor, and a different instruction set from the PS3's main CPU. They are not designed for or efficient at general purpose computing. DSPs are not appropriate for game programming.

Xbox 360 has three general purpose CPU cores. The Cell processor has only one.

Xbox 360's CPUs has vector processing power on each CPU core. Each Xbox 360 core has 128 vector registers per hardware thread, with a dot product instruction, and a shared 1-MB L2 cache. The Cell processor's vector processing power is mostly on the seven DSPs.

Dot products are critical to games because they are used in 3D math to calculate vector lengths, projections, transformations, and more. The Xbox 360 CPU has a dot product instruction, where other CPUs such as Cell must emulate dot product using multiple instructions.

Cell's streaming floating-point work is done on its seven DSP processors. Since geometry processing is moved to the GPU, the need for streaming floating-point work and other DSP style programming in games has dropped dramatically.

Just like with the PS2's Emotion Engine, with its missing L2 cache, the Cell is designed for a type of game programming that accounts for a minor percentage of processing time.

Sony's CPU is ideal for an environment where 12.5% of the work is general-purpose computing and 87.5% of the work is DSP calculations. That sort of mix makes sense for video playback or networked waveform analysis, but not for games. In fact, when analyzing real games one finds almost the opposite distribution of general purpose computing and DSP calculation requirements. A relatively small percentage of instructions are actually floating point. Of those instructions which are floating-point, very few involve processing continuous streams of numbers. Instead they are used in tasks like AI and path-finding, which require random access to memory and frequent branches, which the DSPs are ill-suited to.

Based on measurements of running next generation games, only ~10-30% of the instructions executed are floating point. The remainders of the instructions are load, store, integer, branch, etc. Even fewer of the instructions executed are streaming floating point—probably ~5-10%. Cell is optimized for streaming floating-point, with 87.5% of its cores good for streaming floating-point and nothing else.

Game programmers do not want to spread their code over eight processors, especially when seven of the processors are poorly suited for general purpose programming. Evenly distributing game code across eight processors is extremely difficult.

Rainstorm815073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

you talk about double standards then say gears is a tactical shooter while Uncharted is a straight up shooter.

Uncharted 2 is a straight up shooter?? Have you played the game?

If anything Gears is more of a shooter than U2.

BTW both games' 5vs5 MP are tactical.

Stop hating yourself.......

Oh and on P2P multiplayer yes PS3 has it too the difference is your not paying for it. Same servers just one costs to use it, that sounds right to you?

Edit:

For those that keep comparing XBL and PS+

Stop paying for XBL/PS+ and what are you left with???

That should easily show you who's service is mandatory and who's is optional.

@Leoakathepaw

Time to get a life. Your console got destroyed by its competition. Sitting around cutting pasting ancient fanboy drivel isn't going to save the Xbox 360 and make it magically start putting out PS3 level graphics.

Even the sad Dreamcast losers weren't this bad. They only clung to their fanboy delusions for a year or two after the PS2 destroyed the Dreamcast in graphics.

It's been four years that the PS3 has been humiliating the Xbox 360 in graphics.

Time to get a life Leoakathepaw.

It's not a forced $50 a year online fee, if you want all of the bonuses of gold then you can pay.

The network is no where near laggy, I have been playing for 4 years and the only time I see lag is when someone quits out of the game.

The online isn't tiny, you just comparing it to MAG, lets see how many other games you can name that have more than 8v8 on the PS3.

The Avatar's aren't creepy at all, that is just the fanboy inside you talking.

Also, I like how you put just numbers when you were naming player amounts for the PS3 then you got more detailed when you were bashing the Xbox. Plus, what about backwards compatibility, Sony just gave you guys a huge middle finger when the PS3 came out.

TotalPS3Fanboy5073d ago

What matter is reality. And the reality is that the PS3 completely owns the 360 in thee graphics department. Even 360 gamers have accepted that fact and moved onto the "game-play is better than graphics" argument.

Shepherd 2145073d ago

-Most P2P servers for Xbox games run great, with the exception of Gears 2, and theyve already patched it finally and are working on the netcoding for Gears 3. Ive played almost 5000 games of Halo 3, and 95% of them ran baby smooth. Youre exaggerating horribly by calling them all "laggy" and "outdated".

-Dedicated servers do not always guarantee reliability. You'd know this if you played Bad Company 2 or any popular PC game.

-Games like Gears and Halo focus on squad v.s. squad tactics and gameplay, which is more strategical and the style that Xbox owners lean towards. I would be sad of Halo or Gears turned into a Massive Retard Count vs Massive Retard Count game. That style is reserved for games like Battlefield anyway.

-Avatars are much more detailed than Nintendo Mii's, and give players a personality. Sony's Home is a waste of space and time, since you have to "hang out" with friend in virtual living rooms and play virtual bowling. When youre mature, you tend to overlook silly things like Home anyway. I make my Avatar so people will see it, then i forget about it. Its called having better things to do with my time.

-Since Bungie loves you and Halo is awesome, you can play Halo 3 Social and Custom matches on a Silver account, free of charge. A few other games have these options as well.

The only thing that you actually make a good point on is hostility toward free content and Mods. Microsoft is a business and theyd rather you pay for their content than make your own. I dont like it but its the way it is.

Youre not that clever. There are some on here who have years worth of experience with Xbox Live ya know. Its a great service, and 95% of the time matches run fine. Youd know that if you had long-term first hand experience.

will115073d ago

Last I checked you could play some games online with just silver so your facts are WRONG.

throughout history, every king has fallen.

We all fall eventually. If it's not the Reaper it's our enemies.

Jeremy Gerard5073d ago

just like the Playstation brand WAS king, and it fell, even GT series was king and it has fallen, whats next, Sony herself? falling from king of consumer electronics?

blasian5073d ago

GT fallen?.. haha.. to who? please dont say forza and embarass yourself.

5073d ago
TheTeam065073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

Uhm, excuse me, sir.

Last time I checked, in order for a king to fall, it must get knocked off the top of the list. Last time I checked, the PS2 was still the best selling console. Until that gets knocked down, no one is getting off of anything and the only thing close to the PS2 is more PlayStation and Nintendo. Even if you were to count by total hardware sold from all PlayStation brands, you'd be hurting right now.

They're not going anywhere and if they happen to fall from it, the next in line is Nintendo. The Xbox is far from it.

Same for GT. None have sold more than it's best-selling. Hell, the best selling GT sold approx 5 million MORE than the best selling Halo, let alone Forza. Still not knocked.

As for XBL.... over 23 million.... VS over 50 million. Detract all the multiples and PSP accounts you want. It'll probably still come out to more. After all, PSN is free, so people take it. Rumor has it, the old king pulled the old tax card, and you know what they say:

"No taxation without representation."

When the f*ck did we ask to get charged for this?

So PAYING for something that is literally FREE on every other platform is better than getting discounts and some free GAMES? How exactly is that? This article just fails. Enough with the jealousy.

Instead of trying to convince yourselves XBL is somehow better, how about you complain to MS and ask for some better stuff.

SupeerSteebbi5073d ago

PlayStation Plus just launched 5 days ago. WTF?

sid4gamerfreak5073d ago

atleast PC and PS3 are free. Microsoft meanwhile, steals money and fools the gamers into features that are not worth paying...

Headshot815073d ago

great for all those "new comers" that have just bought their new Ps3. I wish PLUS came along when i first bought my playstation. You pay 50 bucks for a whole bunch a free games, game trials, free themes, and discounts. On top of that it happens every month. Sure sounds like a deal!
As for the rest of us its truely subjective. One is going to wait and see if its worth the $50 by the next couple of months.

bjornbear5073d ago

Because now, PSN+ and PSN are two different services.

XBL is still one service.

PS3 users have a choice:

Play online with no hitches in a pretty decent online service for free

OR

Pay yearly fee and play online with a lot of perks (free content and games, discounts, extra perks, etc)

360 owners have a choice:

Pay for XLB and play online with the best service but very little free stuff/ extras

OR

don't play online.

difference:

Sony offers choice at minimal loss, MS gives you an ultimatum.

tinybigman5073d ago

2 yrs ago because paying to play online is just plain stupid when it's free everywhere else. and the fact that i can get discounts on games and free games/stuff while still playing online for FREE just makes more sense to me.

ABizzel15072d ago

@Shepherd 214

Everything you listed can't compete with PS+.

Deal of the week aka 1 item per week, which as you said is usually some XBLA game, and rarely a 3 month Live subscription for $9.99.

"Sometimes, especially around holidays, Xbox Live will offer a bundle pack of add-ons( for example, recently Live bundled all Gears 2 maps together at a discount price of 800 MS points, which is just ten dollars). This is also only available to Gold members."

Regualr PSN does this EVERY HOLIDAY EVEN THE ONES PEOPLE CARE LESS ABOUT, so it's obvious you don't have a PS3.

"The thing that takes the cake though, is that even Silver(free) members have access to cross-game chat. PS+ STILL doesnt have that, which, in my opinion, is the most important feature. I dont know about other N4G people, but i have friends. A decent amount at that. I want to talk to my buddies as i explore open-world games and scream at my TV screen when im losing in Halo 3."

I've never had Silver so I can't say, but what the point if you can't play online?

+ Show (9) more repliesLast reply 5072d ago
Tony-A5073d ago

Due to the $50 annual price tag of both Plus and XBL, it is now confirmed that they're both trying to do the same thing.

News Flash: If you're doing a VS, do it with PSN and XBL, not Plus and XBL. There's no service like Plus on the 360.

DA_SHREDDER5073d ago

And Microsoft would never sell discount cards. They are too greedy of a company. Sons of bitches. Hehehe.

Otheros005073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

plus is supposed to be a paid service like your gold subscription of xbl.
regular psn is supposed to be free like silver on xbl except on psn you can play online for free.
By your logic: Gold doesn't exsist on xbl. If gold doesn't exsist how can you be playing online and getting access to facebook on xbl?
Edit: Never mind I thought you said there is no paid service on xbl. when you said There's no service like Plus on the 360.

Tony-A5073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

You're missing the point. XBL Gold is meant for you to play online with your friends and get access to pretty much everything you should've gotten with Silver.

PSN is the same thing. Simply because one has a price while the other doesn't, doesn't mean they're different.

I don't think you understood that the first sentence was sarcasm. I can't tell if you do.

EDIT: Oh! I gotcha.

DontShoot-Me-Bro5073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

Hang on, isnt the 1 thing that LIVE has over PSN, cross game chat?

I mean really, serious question, isit only cross game chat? Or is there other stuff?

If it is, then is that what xbox owners brag about paying $50 for.

There is a thing i like about LIVE though, theres that game on 360 where your in the audience, 100?, i know its an american t.v show, 100/100?, you have to answer questions, i dunno, but that seemed pretty cool and fun.

It seemed to bring the whole community together, i would love something like that on PSN.

I know we have Buzz world, but i wish they made it like a weekly thing, where 100 people could join in 1 big game, would be fun.

DA_SHREDDER5073d ago

PSN has the best downloadable exclusives. Siren alone beats everythings ass on Xbox live. I will admit, Last FM is sorta cool, except that you cant pick which exact song or artist on the fly, and cross game chat. Everything else is just is just a tacked on after thought. I cannot wait to get cross game chat on the psn and see the comment section on n4g.

KingKiff5073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

X game chat is over rated, I don't want to be spammed by friends on my PC or PS3 and I find myself just getting annoyed at the constant private chat invites or party invites (which in most multi player games seems to break the community's up, as players who are not friends don't talk to each other).

EDIT: @Ripyealip unfortunately like 60 million people in the world are that mad lol.

DontShoot-Me-Bro5073d ago

I would prefer In Game Music more than Cross Game Chat, i know Sony say its up to developers to implement it into games, but i wish Sony would just add some kind of feature so i can play music while owning or getting owned in KZ2 instead of relying on developers.

Mc Fadge5073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

Killzone 2 is one of the few games that supports in-game music, though only in multiplayer. Try it out next time ;)

Sony CEO says although AI "has been used for creation," it's "not a substitute for human creativity"

"AI is not a substitute for human creativity. We position it as a technology that supports creativity. Creativity resides in people. We will continue to contribute to people's creativity through technology," the CEO said.

..Then Sony will use it like the drop of a hat. They're no different to the others.

isarai1d 15h ago (Edited 1d 15h ago )

They used to be 😞 sure it was always a business, and money's always the priority, but they used to have a very strong stance on supporting artists and creativity. "Dont f#@k with the artist" was a phrase they touted a few times back in the ps1-ps3 era, a philosophy carried over from their music branch PlayStation was created from. It's not COMPLETELY gone, but it's barely there compared to what it was back then, i just want them to return to that.

Eonjay20h ago(Edited 20h ago)

I am highly encouraged by their statement about human creativity. "Dont f#@k with the artist" is exactly what they are saying. But at the same time, I don't think people understand that Sony is a corporation. If they don't realize growth, they don't get to exist. When you say 'Sony', you are talking about a bunch of investors. To speak about them any other way is a illogical and incorrect. They haven't changed. They have been a group of investors since they became a public business.

isarai1d 7h ago

Ugh, i really wish people would stop gambling people's livelihoods by turning a project/game into their political soapbox. Im all for statements and having your own opinion, but there's more people working on this than just druckman, ham fisting your political beliefs onto just seems inconsiderate for everyone elses job security when it can result in a failure due to people avoiding it for that reason.

I play games for escape, im so tired of nearly every AAA game blatantly dragging real world issues to shove in my face when I'm trying to take a break from it all. They don't even bother to be subtle about it, quite the opposite, it's blasted and force fed to you and it's just getting exhausting

Einhander197222h ago

People are taking a whole interview and cutting it down to clips that make him look bad and take what he actually was saying out of context. For example he also said things like this AI has "ethical issues we need to address"

-Foxtrot21h ago

@Einhander

Why defend him at this point?

It’s not taking things out of context, he said what he said.

Old ND would never talk about soulless AI taking over so many creative things they are well known for. The whole “ethical issues” is just a good PR spin people who push this crap fall back on to make their statements not seem as bad. So many AI lovers do this.

AI has no place is so many creative based things.

Einhander197222h ago

Well yeah, because everyone else is using it so they need to stay competitive. It's the same as paid online, they didn't want to go that route but their competition was making so much money they needed to add paid online just to keep up.

RaiderNation19h ago(Edited 19h ago)

AI will never replace humans in game development in terms of conceptualizing new games. Humans still need to come up with the ideas and what they want to implement. However much of the day to day menial coding could be AI driven to reduce production time and team size. I could also see AI being used for bug testing/optimization that could lead to better quality games at launch. I'm actually very optimistic about how AI can positively impact game development.

People that aren't software developers just don't understand the benefits of AI. People who's only exposure to A.I is the Terminator movie and other related sci fi films won't understand the benefits it provides.

It's not about replacing human labor. It's about making human labor easier.

Many years ago, I had laser eye surgery done. It was performed by a robot. The doctor took my measurements and calibrated the machine to make sure it would do what needed be done. And then the robot corrected my vision in 10 seconds.

15 years later and I still have 20/20 vision.

Eonjay20h ago

AI in and of itself is not a 'bad'. Money is bad. Money is evil, and corporations will do whatever they can to get more of it. They will find ways to implement AI to replace as may jobs as possible. This isn't even up for debate. It is the charge of the corporation to maximize returns for the investors. They have no choice. I'm a developer and I know that my job will absolutely be replaced. Therefore, I have decided to become an AI dev. AI has a lot of potential to help us solve problem on a scale most can't even imagine. The issue, as ever is that our monetary system only ever allows us to focus on greed and fiscal growth.

But I am a pragmatist. Perhaps an AI model can be built to help protect us from our most dangerous instincts and habits. And perhaps Congress can pass laws to protect us from people who would use AI to manipulate and control us (spoiler: they wont).

RaiderNation7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

Progress is inevitable. Nobody driving cars today is complaining that the horse and buggy is no longer around. Yes, some jobs will be lost but guess what? With innovation comes new job opportunities. It's how the cycle of the job market works.

Sony Patents To Prevent You From In-Game Harassment By Reading Your Emotions

A new patent recently published by Sony wants to gather biometric data of gamers to track whether one is being harassed using AI tools.

Profchaos30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

I hope this is one of those patents that never comes to fruition.

I already dislike the fact you can pay a significant amount for a online service buy associated games and content on said service and get banned from that service over potentially a misunderstanding the bans are already handed out for flimsy reasons

I'd rather see money invested in a ban that simply removes the offensive players ability to communicate with unknown players allow them to continue party chats with friends but not with Joe blow on cod.

exputers30d ago

Agreed. Blizzard recently banned a college Overwatch 2 player who's dependent for saying "shit." Pretty harsh.

Profchaos29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

How rediculas really. You can't say a word that's allowed in most PG films and prime time TV but the game is based around killing the enemy team using guns, explosives etc.

It's just backwards.

just_looken29d ago

What your talking about is called block list

In 2006 a spaceship dropped of the playstation 3/xbox 360 i say that that generation was the last great gen with game functions/tech that has yet to comeback

Anyhow the playstation 3 if you block listed a id they could not talk to you in chatroom with either text or voice. But that was pre mind fucked 2018 when people were more human than sheep.

But hey gta 6 is coming out billion dollar budget without a single player custom character creator and without singeplayer coop off/online something saints row 1-3 had on the xbox 360.

I genuinely get a bit worried sometimes when a friend says something that could be offensive In a party
Because I have no trouble believing some bans would happen when in a private party for saying something wrong

SegaSaturn66929d ago

I want them to censor erotic content by measuring my groin temperature so i dont get too distracted while playing black ops 2.

Popsicle29d ago

Terrible idea. Not only do I not consent to providing my biometric data, the potential for mishandling biometric data is almost a certainty. Positive stress and negative stress can produce similar changes in biometrics. Interpreting the precise emotion a person is feeling is not only invasive but could be easily misconstrued. I hope this never comes to fruition.

Sony Could Increase Your Game's Difficulty If It Sees You Complain About It

Sony has recently published a new patent that wants to dynamically handle the games' difficulty and gameplay based on the player's emotions.
