Red Faction coming to XBLA/PSN

This is awesome news. Red Faction was one of the first FPS games, if not the first, to utilize dual analogue sticks. It also had a great story and great physics engine for its time. I still remember the opening scene with the mine rebellion. Imo it's one of the most epic openings in an FPS game alongside Half-Life, Halo CE and Bioshock (and a couple of others).

A precursor to the great console FPS games of today. Enough with my rant. Great game :)

Yeah but the new RF is a 3rd person and this download title is an 'Arcade' type game.

I think it may be the cancelled Wii title: Red Faction B.E.A.S.T. It was a 3rd person title for the Wii, and its being used to help promote the new RF which is also 3rd person.
Just my guess.

No Red Faction game has ever been close to the big boys though and this one probably won't be any different.

i remember playing quake 2 on my ps1 using a dualshock with twin analogue sticks, i was blown away by how intuitive it was at the time

This was the first game where you could destroy walls. I remember getting stuck at one point and destroyed every wall I could making tunnels.

I got really excited when first reading the title, thinking it meant the first game released on PS2 and PC. But, I was fooled. This could be cool, or could be something stupid like the Fable II Pub Games pre-order booster.

yeah, i hope they go back the RF roots. The first title blew my mind, I still remember fighting that floating head boss guy in the end. The guns were amazing too. I miss RF1. I hope we can download it psn in the future.

Oh and btw. I hate the new Red Factions, this game was never Third person and I dont know why the felt the need to change that. The series is dead to me now.

Pretty cool. Red Faction series = Destroying things in the future. I wonder what they'll be able to make me break on PSN/XBLA?

Anyone want to bet it uses the same engine as the game? To me this just screams of a first chapter being sliced out of the whole game and then sold to us for 10 bucks and then charging 60 for the whole game even though it has less content. Its just another version of project 10 dollar (albeit a better one imho).

THQ (Before the announcement of Red Faction Armageddon) had trademarked the title's "Red Faction Armageddon" and "Red Faction Origin's", the latter most likely being the DLC Title spoken about within the article. I think this will take place just before the push to the Underground, giving more of a backstory to our Protagonist Darius Mason, of course, we already know he is the son to Alec Mason and Samanya from "Red Faction Guerrilla" but we could be given some insight as to what his occupation was before the push underground.
With the DLC Title being an XBLA and PSN title I doubt we are looking at a full blown Third Person Shooter experience, I can see a "Bionic Commando Rearmed" Style title being the approach being taken with this game.
Either way, I'm happy, I can't wait for the start of next year. Gears of War 3 and Red Faction Armageddon, I love's me my Third-Person Shooters.
