Are EA's hardcore titles slowly moving to PS3 exclusives?

Gamers By Nature writes: "EA is stepping on about a few million toes, gimping a few 360 experiences. Although it’s generally small gimps, the coincidence and the frequency of occurrences just seem fishy."

EA main focus will always be multiplat

dangert125077d ago

not ps3 exclusives but like jack tretton said (i think thats his name)

content content content :)

darthv725077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

the way jack was talking up dlc as if it was the new "exclusive" arena. No more was he talking about exclusive games but more about exclusive content for games that are multiplatform.

Reminds me so much of the days of genesis and snes. The companies would make a game for both but to distinguish between them they would put special stuff in each that was different.

Exclusive dlc was all the hatred a little while ago but now its the "in" thing so long as it keeps it different between the platforms.

CobraKai5077d ago

It's starting to look like "exclusive content" is the way of the future.

At least developers can have games played by the most possible people and at the same time, it pleases console manufacturers to have a version that entices players to play on their console.

bioshock12215077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

EA wont go exclusive it's all about money. Sony is paying EA for exclusive content and Microsoft is paying Activision for exclusive content as well it's not that hard to understand.

MiloGarret5077d ago

well this bioshock guy gets a bubble, where is the option "speaker of truth"? "Intelligent" then..

PyReX-5077d ago

Microsoft is paying for TIMED content not exclusive.

morganfell5077d ago

EA won't go exclusive? Are you saying that Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3 are coming to the PS3?

Some games will only achieve a certain status, thus elevating EA if those games evolve. To evolve those games will require pushing a single platform and that platform will itself necessarily be a console that can evolve.

There is a difference, a vast one, between finding ways to squeeze a little more out of a platform and the other side of the coin which is discovering and mastering the latent power and capabilities of a platform. The PS3 has the true next generation hardware - Bluray is one part - as well as rendering and audio ability that no other console can equal.

For EA's newest titles to reach beyond the current envelope the PS3 will have to become a centerpiece of development. If not an exclusive one then at least one that receives a version as different from the 360 as the Wii version. Last generation it was not a concern to attempt to provide Xbox and PS2 versions that were of equal content and quality and neither should such an approach rule the latter part of this generation.

Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3 on one blu ray disk with addons

ViciousBoston5077d ago

Morgan honestyly that has been one of the most intelligent posts i've read on N4G in a LONG LONG time. Bubbles up. Keep up the sound thinking.

RageAgainstTheMShine5077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

I mean you get it right out of the box,

two games for the price of one game with no hidden costs!!!

This deal can only be done on high capacity Blu-ray disc! Blu-ray disc!

Another refreshing win for PS3 gamers.
Water canisters anyone?

Nice smart move, Sony and EA!

Hmn I can only think of Bioware, Epic Games, Respawn, Insomniac games having exclusive on PS3 contents.

That will be MIND BLOWING!

That is a crucial 1 UP over Activision.

But I do hope all major publishers like Activision, Capcom, Square Enix, Ubisoft, THQ, Sega etc. follow suit!

HolyOrangeCows5077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

So because they haven't brought over the buggy mess of a beta, haven't brought out some DLC, and are creating exclusive content (probably funded by Sony), it means they're going to start creating Ps3 exclusives?

Calm down.

The beta is a mess, and they're working on it, probably using a lot of resources and ran out of resources to finish up the 360 version of the DLC. And the exclusive content, which I look forward to (Frontline remastered, Mafia 2 stuff, extraction), is probably being funded by Sony.

Plus, EA says, "Hey, Activision! Working alongside Microsoft for DLC maps? That's okay, we'll take those Ps3 gamers off your hand with some exclusive content....no, no, with GAMES, not DLC maps"

DaTruth5076d ago (Edited 5076d ago )

If they could get 360 owners to buy a PS3 for their favourite EA franchises, they could eliminate piracy of their games and maximize profits.

One title wouldn't be enough, but some people wouldn't want to miss out on all their favourite EA titles!

They would also get the "I only buy PS3 exclusives crowd".

evilmonkey5015076d ago

I find myself in that ps3 only crowd..how very true.I haven't bought a multiplat since um mw2. Not even red dead, but I'm thinking about it.

pixelsword5076d ago

I hate DLC for the PS3; use the darn blu-ray disc and put it on there instead of having me install ANYTHING to have it work. That's the stupidest thing of all when I hear about PS3 dlc.

Megaton5076d ago

I think the only thing keeping Mass Effect from already being on PS3 is the fact that Mass Effect 1 is stuck in some horrible corporate limbo. It was made before EA bought BioWare, and was published by Microsoft. Mass Effect 2 probably would have already been launched on PS3 if it wasn't so entwined with the original game. It would put PS3 gamers at a real disadvantage without access to the original.

Maybe Sony's paying EA, maybe not. Instead, maybe EA is trying to 'future proof' the PS3, move gamers over to this platform.

It's obvious given the 360 tech it simply won't last. Eventually the games developers make on the PS3 will outshine the 360, and it's in EA's interest to move gamers to a platform they are more interested in developing for.

Not to mention if they keep up the EA Sports "charging for online" (used games)--it makes sense that 360 gamers who pay for online already will not pay again for EA online, whereas on the PS3 they are more to likely to since PSN is already free.

EA thinks years ahead, unlike a lot of other publishers.

beardpapa5077d ago

This rationale of your post is sound. If they were to invest onto a longer-lasting console at this point, their investment would bring in more profits in the long term. Considering at this point of the generation, it is possible for MS to release a new system in a few years and developers will need to develop on an entirely new system again. It is less costly for them to put more effort onto the system that will generate better returns.

MS says they'll release a new xbox in 2015 but I doubt it. In 5 years even the PS3 will be quite outdated. Even the employees at the Sony store I was demoing the 3D in said they don't think blu-ray will last more than a few years.

ViciousBoston5077d ago

DAMN 2 smart posts in one N4G topic? I'm amazed. You and Morganfell are dead on. Keep up the good work. Bubbles up.

mastiffchild5076d ago

Interesting opinions here. Thing is, i think there are two elements not mentioned yet: 1, EA make more money PER GAME SOLD on PS3 due to piracy on the PC and 360-they've long said their most profitable platform was the PS3 because, largely, of this kind of thing. Also, games like Fifa sell amazingly well in the EU and best on Playstation for whatever reason.

Secondly, while it;'s true that EA have always been seen to enjoy making money they still allow subsidiaries like Bioware and, lesser partners(in that EAS have less control over them) like Valve to make 360 exclusives this generation so perhaps the Gabe at E3 stuff and the EA and Tretton love in are to balance out these facts. Maybe down the line we'll also see the odd Sony exclusive too but as development centres more towards Sony's console I think both Ea and Sony will settle for exclusive bits and bobs rather than whole games.

There's an element of being seen to be helping out PS3 gamers put on the(in a small way)backburner by acti over COD DLC but that's just ,lip service to my mind and EA will be playing a long game and , as such, want to use the platform they [profit from the most and if more gamers end up there then all the better for them. It's not about deserting 360 gamers but about EA maximising their chances over the next three or four years and, to them, PS3 dev leading is the way they wish to go and as a by product some PS3 gamers benefit a little bit. that's all I can see , really.

Cueil5076d ago

your rational isn't sound at all... EA is a company that is bound by share holders and it doesn't have the 30 billion dollars in reserve to ignore it's share holders like Microsoft constantly does. You don't ignore your main source of income and really when it comes to FPSes the 360 dominates the PS3 in sales even when EA gives Sony exclusive stuff. I have no doubt they are trying to shore up their fan base on the platform, but you don't want to bite the fingers that will feed you to much.

BYE5077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

EA's main focus is money, so it comes down to what Sony is willing to pay EA for exclusives.

This could be a great relationship, imagine what Visceral could do exclusively on PS3.

Snoogins5077d ago

I'd love to see what Visceral could do on the PS3 with a new exclusive IP (never going to happen, but let's humor fantasy). Of course, they'd need to build a new engine from the ground up. Not impressed with the one they've used for Dead Space and Dante's Inferno. I've finally been playing through Dead Space and noticed some pixelation worse than PSone generation graphics, as well as a framerate that chugs like the little engine that could in spots. Still...damn I love Dead Space. As the 4channers would say, the shit is so cash!

sikbeta5077d ago

Simple, EA will port all The Hardcore Failed Games in the Wii to the PS3 in order to sell more now that Sony got the PlayStation Move, Dead Space 2 + Extraction is The first Move...

NYPunkster5077d ago

As long as their objective is making money, then no.

vhero5076d ago

EA are a tricky 360 fanboys are quick to say multi platform but soon as you mention mass effect they change there tone.. Honestly EA sports games will stay multi platform however as for the other games that's up to the developers as EA is not just a developer they are a publisher too. Crytek are a prime example they don't publish there own games.

Cueil5076d ago

Mass Effect deal was signed with Bioware before they were bought out... Microsoft and Bioware go way back in case you have forgotten it's just recently that Sony has gotten any real love from them

avengers19785076d ago

Never gonna happen, As a huge sony fan, I can say exclusives are not the way of the future. Any game company that sells games should be making them for as many people as possible. That way can make as much money as possible and make better and better games.

cmrbe5076d ago

However i believe that EA will lead on the PS3 from now on.

There are lots of reason why. EA like most publishers knew that it was just a matter of time before the PS3 overtake the x360. Now is the time for them to shift focus to the PS3.

EA and most publishers even before the surge in PS3 sales were reporting more revenue on the PS3.

Add the fact that the PS3 is still hack proof and will continue to improve over time unlike conmpetition. Its a no brainer.

EA knows that if they focus on PS3 now they will reap a heck alot more benefits of their investment like they have on previous PS consoles.

Poof of what i am saying is the fact that EA is still making huge profit margins on the PS2.

EA knows for a fact that the PS3 will continue to raise the bar in years to come and supported for much longer which will see them publish more games and sell them for much longer time which will see a huge return of investment.

This is one on the great benefits of Sony's foresight in their 10 year plan. Now MS is trying to copy them by constantly upgrade the x360 to be a PS3 lol!.

Cueil5076d ago

that in the west(NA and Euro) that Microsoft doesn't have a massive lead still... just under 9 million... They've long ago lost North America where the lion share of their biggest franchises sell (sans FIFA which sells bank in Europe). Sometimes you can't smell the crap because of the perfume over it

mugoldeneagle035076d ago

You could really tell at Sony's E3 Keynote that they obviously have something going well with EA. The PS3 is now selling, EA now knows how to develop great games on it, and everyone knows EA in the last 3-4 years have really come out with some strong titles.

I think we might see 1-2 exclusives down the road, but for now DLC/Special Editions are better than nothing. Just another studio crossing the line to the PlayStation side of things. A strong trend that's catching on

Inside_out5076d ago (Edited 5076d ago )

People just noticing now??? WHERE ya been...EA has been going on and on about making PS3 games on PS3 and porting them over to the 360. ALL games showcased at EA's presentation were being played on PS3 hardware. EA has TWO former M$ guys running things over there...lol...It's all personal. This has been brewing for awhile.

Alot of this has to do with Activision but not all. It doesn't matter. Activision or EA will never be exclusive to one console...NEVER. They would lose a ton of money. M$'s deals with Activision ( read: alot of money ) have hurt EA's feelings. EA wants some of that money for there games. Ad insult to injury, M$ keeps giving Activision the money shot on the 360...COD Black-Ops started the presentation this year...COD MW2 last year was also a big hit and has been timed exclusive for 360.

Have you not noticed the slight bend in Ubisoft towards the 360...Every game shown at Ubisoft presentation is/was running an 360 hardware. It's all money folks. Like having GM cars featured in your games. Splinter Cell conviction is exclusive ( Timed?? ) to 360 and has the beta key for Ghost Recon...

An interesting situation developing is Rockstar. They moved there game RDR up a couple of weeks, right to the same day Alan Wake was releasing and taking alot of the sales away from M$ exclusive game. M$ could not of liked that.

Whats it all mean???...Business as usual. Both consoles have to many users to be ignored. We have not seen the last. Crytek ( EA??? ) has now signed on for an exclusive with M$...Hmmmm...If it sells well...there will be more. Bungie is now under Activision. Respawn ( former IW ) is with EA. The guys behind Dead space 1 ( EA ) are now with Activision and making a new game. It's a chess match...gamers the winners.

TheXgamerLive5077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

that's a rediculous comment/question to ask.

as far as the beta goes and dlc's, everyone knows that MS has a checking process that goes farther and takes longer than ps3. MS and the Xbox 360 has a reputation for having zero problems on beta's and dlc when checked.

also, i mean each consoles has things given to then that others get lalter or not at all, take the beta for GHOST RECON:FUTURE SOLDIER, the beta is on the Xbox 360 ONLY. does that also mean.....no it doesn't, it's just business.

Besides EA makes more money fron titles and especially dlc on the MS Xbox 360 platform and if you add in the PC games as well double bamm.

But as I already stated, it's just business baby. everyone gets thrown a bone or two every once in a while.

Lionhead5077d ago

Someone is trying WAYYYYYYYYYYY too hard =\

ALFAxD_CENTAURO5077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

Yes, like EA making truly exclusive content for 1 console as Medal of Honor Frontlines remastered in HD included for free in the new MoH, Dead Space Extraction adapted for Move and included in Dead Space 2, and not Timed Exclusive like other companies.

duplissi5077d ago

.... actually ea makes most of its money off the ps3.

HungPHAT5077d ago

I just back from E3 and Ghost Recon is leading on PS3 ! Just like like a ton of multiplats are , and everything on the E3 floor was on The PS3 , every one I talk to at E3 said this is the new trend of game making ....

TheXgamerLive5077d ago

Ghost Recon Future Soldier Beta is "ONLY" on the Xbox 360, this was announced with the invitations that came with Splinter Cell Conviction, ya dig, and also, almost 80% of all games shown multiplatform at E3 were played on the Xbox 360 the live E3 demo's tell that sir, just watch b/c apparently ya didn't, and didn't ya read where i said both sides get it sometimes and sometimes they don't, It's just business i said. wow. and BC2's dlc hits Xbox tomorrow thursday the 24th, solidifying what i said about titles come sometimes sooner/sometimes later as MS thoroughly checks them to ensure safe clan game play.

avengers19785076d ago

xgamer, did you watch EA's press conference, almost every game they showed was accompanied by someone using a sony playstation controller... Hell they even showed the picture in the bottom of the television of the PS3 controller. So I'd say EA was showing there games on PS3.

vhero5076d ago

Actually Sonys checks are tougher thats why street fighter (the psn/xbl puzzle one) took a lot longer to come to ps3 than 360. Sony were never happy with it.. Sony ar really ridiculous when it comes to quality on there console as for MS well... They just happy to get an exclusive now and then no matter how bad it is..

MysticStrummer5076d ago (Edited 5076d ago )

Sorry XGamer but you're wrong. EA has said that PS3 is their most profitable platform, and I'm sure they aren't the only ones seeing that result. The reason is piracy. Also, Sony's quality checking takes longer than Microsoft's but that doesn't make it better... except of course in the area of console quality, where we all know Sony has done a better job. No rational argument against that last statement is possible but I bet that won't stop some disagrees. EDIT - I'm commenting so late, maybe I won't get disagrees after all.

avengers19785076d ago

Ummm there are constantly bugs in betas all, betas to say that MS checks there games more is ridiculus. There were bugs in the Halo:Reach beta.
That is why it's a beta because they still have work to do. Xgamer I haven't seen you post in a long time, and now I remeber why.

They are as bad as PS3 fanboys

maddhatter1235077d ago

as bad as me2 sold don't be surprised if it does go multiplat.

Deathracer5076d ago

Mass Effect 2 didn't sell bad at all.... it sold over 2 million on just Xbox alone, not including PC. God Of War 3 only sold a little less than 3 million, GoW3 is a hack and slash, blood and gore game, and Mass Effect is a sci-fi RPG game. For the genre that Mass Effect is, it sold very well.

DarkSpawnClone5076d ago

I would actually really love Mass effect on the ps3, not to take any thing from xbox, but because i want to play it i love bioware game's and my pc isn't really good enough for this gen of games,I really hope bioware dose more on the PS3,Dragon Age Origins is one of my favorite games this gen.

Extermin8or3_5d ago

I mean the fact stuff happened outside of work puts EA in quite a difficult position legally. These women don't seem to have reported the matter to the police which kinda ties EA's hands on what they can do. If they don't file reports of the crimes then yeah from EA's perspective it is stuff that happened outside of work. The only exception is the guy that apparently referenced things in the slack channel for work, spending on what he said proving it may be very hard and he may well be able to get away with plausible deniability. I don't like EA and I think these people need to be dismissed but without any legal action being taken, EA can't really do much without risk of being sued themselves for unfair dismissal etc.
