The Top 5 Reasons Kinect Will Outshine PlayStation Move

Loot Ninja writes:

"Every Tuesday, we’ll release our own Top 5 list of things we think we know about gaming. Some will be thesis, some will be absurd, and most somewhere in between. Chances are you aren’t going to agree with us because: 1) We aren’t experts. 2) Neither are you. Read, comment, and let us know how on point we are or how way off our logic is. Nevertheless, there will be a new list next Tuesday.

Today: Why the Kinect is going to outshine the PlayStation Move."

The Move and Kinect will both be fun.

GWAVE5070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

Peggle is fun.

Doesn't mean I want the direction of a gaming company focused on that sort of "fun" *cough*Microsoft*cough*

Their reasons are pretty funny.

"#1 Kinect is a new concept" HAH!
"#3 It will bring new games to the market" Right, because we saw a bunch of new games for it at E3...
"#5 Allows for more interaction with the console" A Blu Ray remote adds more "interaction" with my PS3. It doesn't mean I want to play games with it. Interaction means nothing when it's laggy and oversimplified.

WildArmed5070d ago

lol yeah.
There are alot of 'new concepts' introduced into the world each day.. half of them are never known to any real consumer.
2-4 is just pretty bad reasons.
oh new games ah new gamers...
oh btw.. i didn't know that Move was the more expensive add-on with Natal not having a price yet -.-

And yes, I'd totally buy Natal to navigate my 360.

wait.. you do realize I have a 360 to play games? There is no way in hell I'd buy a motion device to make my 'UI experience' better.

With that said, at this point I can only see casual gamers being interested in natal.
There is no hardcore support, which is the only factor that could persuade me to get it.

HolyOrangeCows5070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

"1. The Kinect is a new concept"
NEw concepts aren't always good ones.

"2. It will bring new gamers into the market"
No, it will attempt to bring Wii gamers away from their market.

"3. It will bring new games into the market"
Well they haven't shown us that yet. We've seen a Nintendogs rip off, a Wii Sports rip off, a game that's essentially a light gun game that you use your hands for and you kill neon blobs, Wii Fit rip off, etc.

"4. The PlayStation Move is a More Expensive Add-0n.
Let me repeat. The PlayStation Move is more expensive"
Nope. PS Eye ($40) + Move ($50) + DS3/SIXAXIS (Free, included with console) = $90
Only one game requires two move controllers, and it isn't a launch game.
Plus, I thought we didn't have a fixed price yet on Kinect, riiiiiight?

"5. The Kinect Allows More Interaction with the Console"
Yeah for non-gaming features! That's what game consoles are all about!

DERKADER5070d ago

1 reason why all motion gaming sucks!

1. It's a gimmick that gets old after 15mins

Wrathman5070d ago

i hear a *swoosh noise.

what is it i hear you say..well kiddies, that would be the sound of the sony fanboy army sprinting in here at full speed to do damage control!

nice try trollettes.

how about you go buy MOVE and leave kinect to people who want it.off you go and enjoy your new MOVE game.i think its called 'constant calibrating'.

nveenio5070d ago

Here's the thing about these "motion wars"...

I don't care how much fun someone's grandma has playing video games. The only way motion control will win me over is when it has a killer app (like Sorcery or Star Wars). Without it, I'm not interested.

Unfortunately, the only motion control out there that has shown me that it has the potential to satisfy my cravings is Move. So, no matter which sells best, I'll be sticking to whatever meets my needs...not my grandma's.

gtamike5070d ago

Move has better games.
Kinect games were a joke at MS E3.

Christopher5070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

***1. The Kinect is a new concept.***

Wait... what?

***3. It will bring new games into the market.***

Not based on the games we've been shown so far. Casual sport games, dance games, and casual party games so far... all have been on the Wii since day one let alone before the Wii.

***5. The Kinect Allows More Interaction with the Console***

Actually, it provides the exact same level of interaction. Instead of needing a $10 remote or $50 controller, now you need a $150 dual-camera peripheral.

kneon5070d ago

#1 is pretty funny, it's not a new concept, this concept was pioneered on console with the eyetoy. Kinect will work better but the concept is not new.

As for #5, there is little that Kinect can do that the PSEye can't also do. Kinect will have better depth perception and will generally work better, but nearly everything is also doable with the PSEye. But there is plenty that the move can do that just isn't feasible with a camera only solution.

sikbeta5070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

Being honest, it's not a "new concept" cos Sega got the Dream-eye First, Then Sony got The PS-Eyetoy, which was a better add-on, a Gen Later Sony Have The PS-EYE for PS3 which is Better than the PS-Eyetoy...

Cenobia5070d ago

And "Seaman" had Leonard Nimoy. I don't see Leonard Nimoy in "Milo".

No Spock, NO BUY!

/jk

But seriously, I still don't see how you can move around a 3D world with Natal. Implementations like the fight game, and Sorcery make Move a better motion controller, imo. I can at least see some core applications with the demos and games shown so far.

sikbeta5070d ago

Maybe and just Maybe because of:

[ADVERTISING]

that's it...

Inside_out5070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

I've invested in all the platforms this gen. In the case of Sony Move, it does what I complained the most about Wii...that is motion controls with HD...Sorcery was not only the best thing Sony showed, but maybe could be a killer app for Move...Harry Potter meets Fable...Day one for me

Kinect is a different wild animal that M$ and it's developer are trying to get a grip on. M$ has spent a fortune on the tech and developers have only worked with it for a year. Yes the games are copy cat at this point, give it time. The software for it is increasing daily. When people see how intelligent that thing is, it will scare them. We are talking Hal 2001 Space odyssey here...lol It's all about the software and the worlds biggest software maker is on the job.

Nintendo has the best library of games at the moment. They have not added anything new to the experience and have become lazy with there success. That will be there downfall. The Nintendo graphics are worse than last gen.

n4gno5070d ago

"$ has spent a fortune on the tech "

how do you know how much they have paid to the israelian company who made the new camera ?

boodybandit5070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

Move only does everything (GT5, Socom 4, KZ2, Heavy Rain, LBP2 <- 5 reasons).

Kinect does Skittles and Milo.

rezzah5070d ago

Only Move will be, seriously I dont want to dance around no matter the game I play. I want to actually do something rather than nothing.

deadreckoning6665070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

Reason 4 is the best IMO. Imagine how expensive it would be for two brothers to play The Fight. At the moment, I haven't seen anything that would make me buy either...but the Move turns out to be more expensive in the long-run, considering all the add ons.

Also, did everyone forget that Microsoft is releasing a $200 360 that MIGHT have a hardrive? By the end of the year, there might be a 360/Kinect bundle for $350. This would undercut Sony's motion controller bundle by 50 bucks AND the Kinect bundle will have everything you need out-of-box.

rwarner1745070d ago

You assume that Kinect won't require some form of specalized controlle at some point. To actually play games that matter with this thing they are at least going to have to have some form of controller that you can move with.

Unless you want to run in place and say bang bang in order to play halo that is.

Trroy5070d ago

So... how much will it cost to play The Fight, or a game like it, with Kinect?

Oh wait...

Godmars2905070d ago

Except, as far as anyone sane is concerned, both Move and Natal suck.

That's another "End of reasons."

avengers19785070d ago

Actually kinect games are 60 bucks compared to move games at 40 bucks. And the only thing anyone i know is interested in is the controlerless browsing through the 360.

fiercescuba5070d ago

@ Avengers:

good pt. however, games that use the Move/Kinect will be full price. only the Move specific games are 40. Metal Gear Rising, I THINK, will be PS Move compatible. That won't be 40 bucks. Tiger Woods 2011 is PS Move comp, that's also a full game.

facelike5070d ago

That's correct.

Sony just made pricing tiers for their games.

$7.99 - $1.99 PSN Minis
$8.99 - $19.99 PSN Games
$29.99 PS3 Greatest hits
$39.99 Move titles
$59.99 Full retail games.

All of these are playable on the PS3.

sikbeta5070d ago

Idk about that, you sure $40? doesn't matter for me, I only know that EA got some great Deals for PS3 Owners, I'll buy Dead Space 2 + Extraction for $60 compatible with PS Move, that's Great and the other Games at E3 Like Sorcery and Heroes on The Move show that the Device have Real Support and not crappy games ala wii style...

BeaArthur5070d ago

Pretty tired of hearing about both of them at this point. Hopefully we won't see these articles all the way to the fall.

xc7x5070d ago

to the fall? these will be with us forever now, even when they are dead and gone.

xc7x5070d ago

those were hilarious answers,so what is this like, the 300th Kinect vs Move article on N4G? next up,top 5 reasons Move outshines Kinect, wow i'm so brilliant to know that is coming.

I would label the Power Glove, Kinect, and that Tony Hawk skateboard more as hardware addons hardware failure would be like the Virtual Boy and one day Stadia.

Magog838d ago

Kinect was bundled with every Xbox One and inflated the price on an already underpowered and low RAM machine so for the One it wasn't an accessory as much as a white elephant.

CaptainHenry916838d ago (Edited 838d ago )

Definitely the RROD but that power glove had a lot of issues as well. The Kinect just didn't work

838d ago
CrimsonWing69838d ago

Hardware add-ons are more like RAM or a video card, basically components that enhance capabilities or performance of the computer.

If you really want to get technical the Kinect is more of a peripheral device, kind of like a keyboard or mouse to a computer.

ThatsGaming838d ago

The person in this article obviously is not up on their gaming history....

Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Coleco Gemini, Commodore 128, Commodore Amiga, Atari 5200, Atari 7800 were all massive failures and in most cases cost their companies participating in future gaming generations.

Gamer79838d ago

Sega saturn (successful in Japan) and dreamcast were not failures.
Seems like you're not up on you're gaming history

septemberindecember838d ago

@Gamer79

How in the world are the Sega Saturn and Dreamcast not seen as failures? They both sold around 8M each, which is much lower than the ~30M that the Genesis had sold before it, and even the Master System before that. They were both the worst selling consoles in their respective generation (PS1, N64 outsold Saturn, PS2, GC, and Xbox outsold Dreamcast). Both of the consoles were incredibly short lived. The Saturn was discontinued in every territory but Japan after just three years. In Japan the console was discontinued after six years. Meanwhile the Dreamcast was discontinued worldwide in 2001 after launching in most territories in 1999 and in Japan in 1998. The failure of the Saturn and Dreamcast lead to Sega pulling out of the hardware market. Which, by the way, all of this occurred when Sega was massively dropping the price of their consoles quickly to compete. Sega was hemorrhaging money at this point.

None of this indicates a successful console. Saying the Saturn was a success because it did better in Japan is like saying the Vita is a success (they both sold around the same amount of units in Japan). Even the Wii U outsold these consoles worldwide.

Magog838d ago

The picture should be the 360 RROD. When I think of gaming hardware failures that's what springs to mind. Kinect and it's bundled price tag definitely hobbled the already underpowered Xbox One though for sure so I would give it a close second place.

porkChop838d ago (Edited 838d ago )

That's not what the author means by failures. It's about hardware that failed in terms of sales (Wii U) or just failed to deliver on its promise (Kinect).

Magog838d ago (Edited 838d ago )

Given that the 360 had a year head start, much easier hardware to develop for, was cheaper, and still ended up in third place I think it qualifies especially when you factor in the frustration and huge losses incurred by RROD.

porkChop838d ago

Selling over 80 million consoles isn't a sales flop. We get it, you don't like Xbox, but that doesn't mean the 360 is suddenly a failure.

Rhythmattic837d ago

Porky....
You know how many people I know bought a 2nd or third 360 due to RROD? Even when MS had to confront the issue with replacement systems, my mates couldn't wait for even the turnaround of sending it in, and waiting for a replacement.,,..,..
If that's how you consider it a win... OK.. but so is having 5 , of which 3 don't function.... Its a win win....mwhahahahaha

porkChop837d ago

"my mates couldn't wait for even the turnaround of sending it in"

You're acting like it would take months. When I sent my 360 in I got a new one literally 5 days later. As soon as MS had tracking confirmation that you sent yours, they'd send a new one to you the same day. No one is going to spend hundreds to buy a new console instead of waiting a week. I swear you guys pull some of the dumbest shit out of nowhere and think people will actually believe it.

Regardless, none of this changes the fact that this isn't what the article is even about.

Rhythmattic836d ago (Edited 836d ago )

Porky
"You're acting like it would take months"
Sometimes it could.. FFS.. 'Strya here...
Best turnaround I reckon was 2-3 weeks.....
Either way, My mates experiences still exist.. So Sorry, no point trying to earn Xbox Achievements when it doesn't feature in what was a situation you never dealt with,,,,
3 of my friends would disagree (overall, 10 extra Xboxes purchased)
Regardless.. MS sold a lot of 360's that was due to this reason.. That is sales. Fact

"none of this changes the fact that this isn't what the article is even about."
Headline says HELLO !
Oh and "Sadly, not all hardware is created equal," that's enough to pass this on without taking your article bias into consideration.....
As for the rest.... Ok.. But you've actually gone out of your way to give MS a Pass... Fap on.

Aloymetal838d ago (Edited 838d ago )

Yup, and because of that big fiasco MS had to fork out 1 billion but knowing them I think they're very proud of the 360, it's the only time a MS console reached 80mil+ sales, RROD played a big part of that and a record they will never break again.

Rhythmattic837d ago (Edited 837d ago )

So true.. Even when MS accepted they where caught out in the biggest lie of any generation, The wait for a replacement was outweighed by just buying another, and having one be returned as a backup, which, btw, generally failed on first swap.
I own honestly can't believe MS tards are just supporting , or arguing why and what MS did by just dismissing it....

lonewolf10838d ago

Lol I had the Atari Jaguar, surprised its "competition" the 3DO isn't on the list too, both as "popular" as each other.

SullysCigar838d ago

Lol same. Played the crap out of Aliens Vs Predator and Tempest 2000 .... aaand that's about it really!!

lonewolf10838d ago

Sad but true that was pretty much it.

Kurt Russell838d ago

Agreed, I never actually saw a 3DO make it to retailers in the UK. At least the Atari Jaguar was sold for around 6 months.

lonewolf10838d ago

It made it to some my brother got one, fared just as well as the Jaguar so most probably hard to find in general.

darthv72838d ago

3do had way better games. Jaguar not so much. Neo Geo sold less than both and yet isnt considered a failure. Go figure.

LWOGaming838d ago

Stadia is a weird one. It hasn’t sold at all well but in terms of how it works it’s still miles ahead of Xcloud in terms of stability and performance. Xcloud is still a way behind and that needs sorting but it will be in time. Stadia for me is one of those things that will go down as a what could have been moments. With better marketing it could have been a roaring success. I still play it and it remains the best place in my opinion to play CyberPunk 2077. Only platform I have played it on without having any issues at all. The tech is great. The concept is fine. Marketing terrible. Shame really.

Magog838d ago

The sales model was awful. They should have teamed with an existing player to allow for local and cloud access to games or a gaming subscription service.

LWOGaming838d ago

It was a strange mess from such a huge company, as I said, as a system it works really well but without gamers it’s nothing. Such a waste,

LWOGaming838d ago

The Xbox One was Microsoft’s Nintendo Wii U. Undercooked, undersold and just an unholy mess. The thing is with any of these failures is to learn from them and thankfully both Nintendo and Xbox did just that to the benefit of gamers everywhere.
