Crysis 2 crashes during presentation - Video

Crytek has shown Crysis 2 to the public, but during a presentation at IGN the game crashes to the desktop. Apparently Electronic Arts tries to pull all the videos showing the crash. Hurry. Take a look and see how Crysis 2 crashes to the desktop.

The game isnt ready, i dont see the need to crit a game just over a crash. Sometimes complete games crash, i am sure a lot of work will go into the game between now and release.

FangBlade5095d ago

Why are they running the 360 version on a PC?

GrieverSoul5094d ago

Might be a alpha version running on the X360 environment on PC. This happens before the port process to the actual console.

Also, this presentation fails in so many ways its unbelievebable!!
Is someone actually playing the game?! I cant see him? Also, if its a controlled demonstration, why dont you put a gameplay video instead of that?! The argument "Its the X360 version running" aint gonna help them since its running on PC hardware trough X360 SDK environment.

FAIL!

ryuzu5094d ago

Probably running on the dev debug kit.

Although EA may be guilty of trying to tell people this is the game running on 360 when in fact it's running in the debug environment on a PC.

Either way, it doesn't look as good as Crysis 1 graphically, and the gameplay looks pretty bland too...

Conloles5094d ago

Nothing new here, happens a lot

raztad5094d ago

Dunno about "xbox environment" or SDK. I mean isnt the dev/debug kit supposed to be an actual xbox-like machine, with the same architecture and everything. Perhaps more memory for debugging process. PC=/= dev kit.

I'm surprised game is not running in the advertised hardware. That is odd because Crysis 2 is due to release this year and they should have passed the alpha stage by now. Meaning a buggy but still playable game on the xbox.

On a more positive note. Did anybody notice KZ2 cover system implementation? I like it.

Glitch1005094d ago

Xbox neighbourhood is just the link to an xbox 360 development kit...
So they was playing on an xbox; just watching it on a PC. It's probably so IGN can connect to whoevers Xbox they have in the room

SPARTANVI5094d ago

Let's blame Windows 7, yeah.. not the BETA game that it's running..

LOL FAIL!

Christopher5094d ago

Nothing to see here.

They use compiled dev code to run on PCs at the level they've been developed for the 360. This is done so that they don't have to carry around an actual printed disk with the data and instead can just port it on a flash drive that with encryption on it so that if it's lost, whomever finds it won't be able to do anything with it.

As far as the crash, it's to be expected when you're running it off a dev environment on a PC instead of right on the 360 dev kit.

EvilBlackCat5094d ago

@FangBlade
"Why are they running the 360 version on a PC?"

that was a Video Demo of the game

Rock Bottom5094d ago

A game crashing during alpha phase... OMG, N4G news worthy!!!

badz1495094d ago

I'm not blaming Windows7 at all, in fact I LOVE Windows7! you're missing the point of my post! I was pointing the fact that the game is for all we know might actually running on PC with the 360 controller, not on the 360 itself! saying this is the 360 version is kinda questionable now TBH!

SnakeShady5095d ago

the point is that they say it's the 360 version....but the game crash and show windows screen.
They are lying.

FangBlade5094d ago (Edited 5094d ago )

I dont think they're lying, this is definitely the 360 version.
when it goes to the desktop you can see 'Xbox 360 neighborhood' icon.
that's a SDK program to help create games and software for the 360.

peeps5094d ago (Edited 5094d ago )

when did they say it was the 360 version they were playing?

watching that video there was no mention of it being the 360 version. Watching it i just presumed it was being played on pc with a 360 controller...

if they were saying it was the 360 version and using the pc (which will obv look better) then that's bad, but i don't see where they said that

ryuzu5094d ago

I don't know I skipped the vid, but the icons on screen all showed xbox buttons.

Of course maybe they were just running the PC version but configured it to use an xbox controller.

DoomeDx5094d ago

Lol @ Fangblade

you copy & Pasted someone elses comment on that youtube vid :D

Inside_out5094d ago

They have said that the E3 demo is on PC. Still waiting for a console version. The game releases this year. Why have they not shown the 360 or PS3 version. I sense a disturbance in the force I do.

Nihilism5094d ago

Actually they said they were running the 360 'build' the on a PC with 360 specs...they said that from the start.

The game is not finished, you can simply drop into the game within the editor and play a level, much easier than having to code and the little pieces to have a 100% working demo

ProjectVulcan5094d ago

You have to develop games on something. This something would be workstation computers. The E3 version was definitely NOT the pc version.

FishCake9T45094d ago

Agreed but still.......LOL. Especially when they were saying how Crysis is going to be far superior then anything on the market.

Substance1015094d ago

Doesnt every game coming out on console have this hype?

Every developer will tell you, oh we have managed to use 100% of blah blah console. Games on console need to be marketed and hyped to no end so that it sells.

Check out the first crysis even running on midrange hardware of today. It blows past anything else on the market even 3 yrs after its release date.

RedSky5094d ago

"That must be why we're not shipping Windows 98 yet."

vhero5094d ago

So it wasn't the 360 version afterall.. I wonder how many other company's have shown us a 360 game really running on a pc?

BeaArthur5094d ago

Agree with the OP. Finished games crash all the time. Hell I can't even finish 2 rounds in a row of the Medal of Honor beta without it crashing and locking up my PS3. Nothing really to report here.

JsonHenry5094d ago

Probably just because the game is not finished yet. Look at all the crashing Medal of Honor is doing as an example of an unfinished game having problems.

But I love to see FAIL like this at presentations just because I know the poor guys are sweating bullets already and this just makes it even funnier.

pixelsword5094d ago (Edited 5094d ago )

A program crashes on a computer? Really?

Rain is wet

Water is too

Dogs poop

And so does this article. :P

Bring us moar obviousness in the form of articles.

arjman5094d ago

Not even EA can run Crysis 2 :P

HurstDarkStar5094d ago

dam i dont have enough money to run crysis now! If it can crash a presentation by these million if not billion dollar companies how am i suppose to run this?

peeps5094d ago

buy it for consoles? lol

or just realise that a game crashing is probably nothing to do with the hardware

Shaman5094d ago

It was confirmed by their developer on crymod.com that it was running on PC with 360 settings duo to still unstable console build.

raztad5094d ago

But do you really believe it? I mean perhaps it was just Crysis 2 running on Windows 7 with mapped xbox-buttons. PC with 360 settings sounds very fishy. Considering it's very hard to emulate a full console hardware + OS. I'd say it's much easier to have the game running on the xbox.

Fishy Fingers5094d ago

Aren't some of you over reacting? It's a game in development running a incomplete build, a crash is hardly a big deal.

Here are Star Wars The Force Unleashed, Crysis 2, RAGE & Resident Evil 2 Remake with Ray Tracing

YouTube’s members ‘Digital Dreams’ and ‘Jose cangrejo’ have shared some videos, showcasing Pascal Gilcher’s Reshade mod – which adds Ray Tracing/Path Tracing effects – in some really old games such as Star Wars The Force Unleashed, Crysis 2, RAGE and Resident Evil 6.

I'm still learning how to look for the differences. At first I was focusing on shadows for some reason but I don't think that changes much, is it reflections that change?

rashada071806d ago (Edited 1806d ago )

It is supposed to be simulating how light actually works- so yes if light is reflecting off a surface accurately it should show reflection or an effect that matches what you are looking at in the environment. Next time you play a game look at a puddle of water there may be just a "baked" in texture that if you aren't paying attention seems like it is reflecting but it isn't. I would say though if the light is reflecting more accurately I would think that would give more accurate shadows as well.
I am still not 100% sold on it- it looks okay but I can't get over the hardware price jump for better reflections..

Taz X141806d ago

While games won't look immensely better, it opens up more possibilities overall. Understandably, the price jump is huge. But, that can be said for being at the forefront for any new technology. I'm currently using a 2080ti and while I've played a few games that enable it, the gpu also plays everything else incredibly well so it's not like you're buying this tech for ONLY that option. Enthusiasts will pay top dollar to check out the newest things, but this will eventually become an everyday consumer and by then they'll have optimized and become a lot cheaper.

warriorcase1805d ago

Ray/path tracing can be used how the developer wants it to be. Tracing can be used to calculate shadows/lighting, reflection and even audio, where audio waves are calculated on the bounce off material types to simulate enviroment and echos accuratly.

Should also keep in mind that this ray/path tracing system is different and less accurate option from Nvidias RTX branded type. McFly's is a reshade that layers over the top of the game and therefor the quality will vary drastically. For example you can see nice reflection in the Star Wars demo here but it then introduces colour clipping with the light saber. On a video of GTA 5 for example it was incorrectly projecting a reflection of a red car onto the road which caused a very faint red glow on the ground around the car.

If you want to see a good example of a game developed with ray tracing reflection and lighting in mind then you could look up the youtube video of "Control - Exclusive E3 RTX GAMEPLAY Trailer".

DigitallyAfflicted1806d ago

It supposed to add more realistic light Not actually more light effects and explosions

traumadisaster1806d ago

I hate to say it but I’m fine with fake lights, shadows, reflections. I just kind of like the effect, it’s also great it saves resources for other things.

I’ve been checking out some original Xbox games on x360/x1x and the engine has fake light streaming in through a stained glass window, and I love it even though I know it’s not real time lighting. Heck it even shifts as I move about.

I’ve about convinced my self rt and hdr just doesn’t work for me. Before hdr I would even complain damn why are the headlights killing me they are so bright.

I notice most frame rate, then jaggies, then resolution; with the last two interchangeable depending.

Other day watched an enthusiast rave over 4k and the poor guy was in 1080p. I played the same game the night before and thought wow this is clean, I wonder if it’s 4k, but knew differently and I thought wow even resolution is not always important. The next day he apologized and was surprised he could be fooled.

RaidenBlack1805d ago

EA should have released the Crysis Trilogy Remaster for this gen.

FGHFGHFGH1801d ago

How come the lightsabers don't give off any light? Even in the EA star wars game the guy uses it to light up a dark cave. I guess if it is using frostbite it will support rtx cards.
