Rage Vs. Killzone 3 : A Clash of Epic Proportions

PS Unlimited Writes: These two titles stood out during this year's E3 Convention in their very own unique light. Rage was the title that was a stunning eye opener displaying bleeding edge visuals, and proved to the masses that there's much life left in the XBox 360 after-all. (It won IGN's best overall game of E3) Then there's Killzone 3, which wowed the crowds yet again displaying its amazing cinematic visuals and intense gameplay elements all in Sony's new 3-D gaming experience.

So here's the obvious question which fuels the motivation for this article : As of right now, from what we've seen at E3 thus far, which game has the better graphics? To put it in an simple & contrite manner, the TENTATIVE answer would be [Pulls out Riot Shield ] Rage...

Now, before you exasperate yourselves into a fit of "Rage" my Killzone faithful, please read on because what I have to say will intrigue you and will indeed make you extremely happy.

Rage had to have content cut out thanks to a last gen console while Killzone 3 doesn't need to cut out content as it's on a console that doesn't have last gen limitations.

Donny5074d ago (Edited 5074d ago )

Yep, killzone 3 looks better than Rage. Guirella Games are more talented than id ( in my opinion )

Eiffel5074d ago (Edited 5074d ago )

Woah Woah Woah, more talented? Hell no. Id Software is god.

Rage is restricted due to BOTH consoles. Rage on the PC is beyond comprehensible. Hell from some of the pics I've seen from both console and pc, it trumps, and they had to compress it for the consoles, LOL!

I'm a console owner and I'm not this dense.

ChozenWoan5074d ago (Edited 5074d ago )

KZ3 has Killzon3D Rage!

Of coarse, gamers who's console can't play KZ3 will always try to say such and such game pawns the Killzone franchise.... same thing they said about ODST, Alan Wake, FF13, Splinter Cell, and so many other games that didn't hold water once released.

Lets just face it, only PC can compete... and that's if you have a rig that was top of the line when the PS3 was released or is much newer.

lve2playbball5074d ago

"Yep, killzone 3 looks better than Rage. Guirella Games are more talented than id ( in my opinion )"

Cmon now Donny, that is spoken like a true fanboy. Do you know what id is responsible for in the gaming world? I mean cmon, to say that guerilla is "more talented" than id is a joke. I know it's your OPINION, but it is severely misguided by fanboyism.

Watch, the disagrees will pile up. Look at the comments where people said they liked RAGE more...more disagrees than agrees. This is truly a fanboy thread.
Like I said in another thread, I was not a big fan of KZ2's gameplay, but it was gorgeous. KZ3 does look amazing, and the jetpacks will probably be awesome.

MRMagoo1235073d ago

Its a fanboy site if ppl dont agree with you hmm is that how it goes so basically u cant be wrong either way if they agree with you then that means rage is the better company right but if they dont agree with you then there all fanboys lol ur a joke i dont like mario does that make me a fanboy no it means i am an individualand have my own tastes.

beardpapa5073d ago

wow Eiffel, u got a lot of 360 games. how u find the time to play and get so many?gamefly?

Boody-Bandit5073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

That you own both consoles and appear to favor the 360. The picture shows 18 360 games and only 2 PS3 titles. Unless of course you have a stack of PS3 titles located somewhere else.

I own 5 360's and only 1 PS3. Most people would think I am more a 360 fan. Isn't that the first thing that comes to the mind of people that read it? Check my post history and see if I am anything but brutally honest.

BTW my stack of games is pretty even.

madpuppy5073d ago

The guys at ID are the real deal, They Invented the FPS! John Carmack was making FPS when the Guerrilla Games developers were still in junior high.

Killzone 3 looks great but after viewing the videos, Rage looks better. but, Rage has tons more color than Killzone 3 so it is hard to make a really good determination without actually playing both games.

Heisenberg5073d ago

And kids that are in Jr High now will someday make better games than GG, and then the next generation will do the same and so on and so forth. I'm not saying one is better than the other, but the fact that id is the grandfather of the FPS doesn't necessarily mean they make the best FPS's today...

exnihilonihilfit5073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

*checks to make sure he still has a PS3, sees that he does*

I really couldn't care less cause I'll get to have both, and the better console version of Rage no less.

But lets be real, the two games have very different graphical styles so it's not really a fair comparison. Rage will be amazing though, and definitely among the best graphics on PS3, though likely not the absolute best. It will probably the best graphics on PS3 of any multi-platform game except maybe Crysis 2. If anything we should be comparing Rage with Crysis 2, not Killzone 3.

Killzone 3 has a bit of shine almost like Unreal engine, in Rage everything is textured and looks very realistic.

I like the graphics of Rage a lot better, not to mention the game is open world. Rage wins, and will also be the better game in gameplay and not just graphics, which is what Killzone misses.

Colonel-Killzone5074d ago (Edited 5074d ago )

Man you only got 1 screenshot of Killzone. While 3 for rage since one of them is not working. Get some better links of Killzone 3 please before I have to bring links. I see your the fanboy if you was true on your word You would have gotten the same amount of links for Killzone GTFO.

You just proved me right again. And its funny how sad you go out of your way to make killzone 3 look bad. First off I'm looking at everything ground up from your link. And it does not even look better.

Second you got a small ass picture of killzone 3 with not even that much detail. With a full scale picture of RAGE LMFAO. And even with that picture Killzone artice environments still look better. Also Sev looks much better detailed then Rage Character models nice try though. I'll give you a T for trolling.

ChronoJoe5074d ago

Rage has an almost cellshaded artstyle (it's not cell shaded in terms of tech, but it produces the same visual results with considerably greater detail)

Point is. It looks eveything but realistic, not saying it doesn't look decent, great even. But you're an obvious troll when you're trying to push Rage > KZ3 with 'it looks more realistic'.

Now this is killzone 2, not 3 ( I wanted a sample of a more everyday enviroment, when speaking on the subject of 'realism', so the wrecked snow enviroment wasn't quite suitable )

http://www.gamearena.com.au...

That, looks more realistic than anything I've seen from ID Tech 5. Not saying I'm not a big fan of rage though, but I think Rage looks hella fun, just not graphically (on console) on the level with KZ3 (on console).

Keltik825074d ago

I love it how you find all the best pictures of Rage then you find ONE picture of KillzownedRage that shows the least detail of the game and the worst picture possible. Good try Mista Tarded.

FunAndGun5074d ago

haha, I laughed at Mista Tarded.

pain777pas5073d ago

Killzone 2 is better looking than Rage. Look I'll tell you the truth just like Halo reach there is something that Killzone does that no other shooter I've seen seems to be doing and that is present intensity. The smoke particle effects, how things blow up just make most shooters look like cartoons. Seriously, Killzone 2 is the best when it comes to guns and shooting stuff. Battle field has its benefits in destructibility etc... MW2 has its fun multiplayer perk factor and Halo nails the fun of vehicles that showcase the games scale and versatility. If Killzone puts mechs, jetpacks and vehicles in multiplayer its over and anyone who plays killzone which there is many who still play cause I still play know that every kill takes skill, patience and teamwork. Love that game one of the best multiplayer experiences around cause of the match constantly changing objectives and things can get so bat crazy on some maps I just love Killzone2 sorry guys. Rage looks good but there is that feeling of the dirt is just a texture and the water won't move realistically things like that that Killzone nails in the atmosphere and lighting is some times shokingly beautiful in a way. Really technically advanced in creating a warzone type atmosphere that I have not seen in any other games really. When your storming that palace at the end its complete chaos on higher difficulties and so rewarding to complete and then the final stage fighting Radec can drive you insane with the RPG crew but the game is a fantastic shooter but they need the vehicles and more mechs to make the leap to best in class cause that is one thing that Halo especially and all other shooters trump Killzone in single player and multiplayer. But Rage will be a better Boarderlands but will not touch Killzone. It looks great for what it is but I see that the graphics are pretty not gritty if you understand what I mean if not I can't really explain it that well but I think that Rage looks great and it is running on 360 hardware which is good. Hopefully Carmack will get parity or surpass those visuals on the PS3 because I have a strange feeling they were just demoing the game on the system that they will sell the most copies on not the system where it will look the best. Bioware did the same thing with Dragon Age.

DoomeDx5073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

Thats pretty good for you.

but IMO (mind you, IMO!) Killzone 3 looks better.

also, Killzone 3 has the MP :) which does it for me ! (i know, not graphics related. but hey, who cares about graphics? Gameplay > Graphics right?)

oh and Mister T, use INGAME screenshots next time. not pre-rendered

cliffbo5073d ago

@Mista T

rage is a bog standard fps similar to quake and does not have much going on on the screen.

however KZ3 is almost alive at all times and has as much if not more detail and action and has more innovative gameplay and features than rage.

Rage just looks an FPS version of fallout, a game which had pretty bad shooting.

Mista T5074d ago (Edited 5074d ago )

Rage trumps and runs over Fallout, Fallout uses an old engine and is nothing compared to iD tech 5

It's obvious you're Tarded, seriously dude thank god you're out of bubbles. Cause you're just really grasping at straws. Rage HAS NOTHING going on! KillzOwnedYou has so much going on it's not even funny dude. Tug on those shoulders and pull your head outta yer arse because you're blind.

ScoobyDrew5073d ago

Once Killzone 3's jungle environments are shown off you can shove that rage crap up your ass. It'll be game over

da305kratos5074d ago

KZ3 looks nothing like the Unreal engine to begin with...

also, all I've heard from Rage is that everything is static, from the shadows, lighting, etc....if thats all true, IF it is, then you cant even compare it to KZ3...just sayin

Inside_out5073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

Well, Rage has many technical features to brag about, the biggest being you will not see many objects twice. That explains the second disc on 360. The question I have is...Will we ever see this thing??? It's been in development for 7 years.

KZ 3 is using the exact same graphics engine as KZ 2. So says Guerrilla. The difference, well, no swearing, Move compatible, stabbing guy's in the eye's and you need a neew TV and glasses to play it in 3D...Plus alot of pre-rendered scenes and back drops. Obviously the Naughty dog contribution for the last part. It does look good.

Gears of War was the stand out for me. It had all new weapons and finishing moves. A complete new enemy class in the Lambent. 4 player co-op, new Horde mode in Beast where you get to play as all the enemies and of course Multi-player with new maps. The complete package in game, without the need to buy a new TV or controllers.

Halo Reach looked great as well. 4 Player co-op, Firefight, multi player and the best part...Playable this year in a couple of months.

Crysis was demoed on PC, according to Crytek. Have no idea what the console version will look like. PC version is OK.

snp5073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

"KZ 3 is using the exact same graphics engine as KZ 2. So says Guerrilla. The difference,..."

Actually if you have a look at the interview/demonstration videos, they've said they optimised their code such that they are getting another 30-40% performance out of Killzone 3 over part 2 (and this is in pre-alpha stage, of course - though the engine might already a wrap at this point; i don't know).

They went on to say this is why they've been able to get so many more polygons into the environment - for all those layers on the multiple platforms in the second demo they showed (and the enormous number of polygons and effects going on to create the waves and other immersion details).

Biggest things i'd say have changed is the additional polygons has given sections a little more scale - made them fractionally less claustrophobic (which was something i didn't like as much about Killzone 2 over some other shooters). And also, of course, there's an extra axis on display in gameplay via the jetpacks. And, though they've not shown them, Killzone 3 is supposed to have a large variety of different environment types ( a complaint for some in Killzone 2).

Beyond that, of course, it's a question mark what else is new - mind you, that's a fair amount. Though i'm sure there'll be plenty of surprises by the time it's finished and released - as there are for every game.

Not sure where you are getting this 'a lot of pre-rendered scenes and back drops'. I've not actually seen any of these 'pre-rendered scenes and back drops' in any demo (i'd ask for a link, but you're out of bubbles). Everything i've seen has been in engine. Point of fact, in one of the chats with the guy from Guerrilla demoing the game he made of point of saying they were making sure any transitional scenes (which are still in engine) will also include playable elements so as to not take the player out of the game at any point.

As for the Move and 3d. 3d is a neat addition for those who can use it - and it'll always be there for those who buy the game but can't use it immediately to go back and have a look at if/when they do get a 3d tele of some sort. Move will have to wait and see; it could genuinely improve the control for those of us who struggle with console control sticks.

maddhatter1235074d ago (Edited 5074d ago )

well there you have it kz3 easily beats rage 360 fanboys better lucky with the next bandwagon you hope on.

SOAD5074d ago

The article writer is correct.

RAGE looks excellent but doesn't have a lot of shit going on in the environments.

KZ3 has all the snow effects, the explosions, the particles, everything is happening at once to produce the feeling that you are in a war.

Both games look good but technically Killzone 3 I guess trumps RAGE.

I have changed my opinion from a couple of days ago where I said that RAGE was technically better.

Nykamari5074d ago

You have every right to change your opinion, but some fools of this site will die first before giving props to a beast of a game called KILLZONE! +1 for you!

MRMagoo1235073d ago

My god i couldnt believe u said that it is the truth tho rage isnt as technical as KZ3.

Boody-Bandit5073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

When I first viewed Rage what initially caught my eye was how smooth it runs. I was like DANG that looks great but the more and more you watch the wow factors goes away. It looks almost cell shaded at times. The game looks sharp but there really isn't a lot of detail or any complex environments going on.

Anyone that has played KZ2 knows how amazing the effects and animations are and there is a ton of detail. I still am wowed when I play it every now and then.

Rage will end up like every other over hyped PS3 exclusive killer before it. I am a fan of iD and I do hope it turns out to be a top notch game but it wont come close to topping KZ3.

KZ3 is in it's early alpha phase and it is going to get a lot sharper, more detail and refined before it's released. Just like KZ2 and UC2. KZ3 will be amazing but it wont be the end. I have a feeling Sony first party are going to push the PS3 further and further with each new release.

I cant wait to see what Naughty Dog and Santa Monica are going to do next.

MNicholas5074d ago (Edited 5074d ago )

Is it the low polygon character models?

The way the textures look like crap up close?

The lack of dynamic lighting and specularity?

The cheap baked lighting and shadows on everything?

The cheap tricks such as pipes on the ceiling that are just drawn in textures like they did in the early PS2 era?

The cheap dark outlines around rocks and stones to compensate for the lack of actual detail?

The horrendous water effects?

Well?

Frankly, COD Modern Warfare 2 is also 60fps and, technically speaking, is doing a heck of a lot more than Rage.

http://images.eurogamer.net...

Here are some good examples (taken from Killzone 2) of what Rage isn't:

http://boardsus.playstation...

niceguywii605074d ago (Edited 5074d ago )

PS3 fanboys are crazy thinking Killzone 3 is anywhere close to the lighting and detail in Rage.

Media coming from E3 almost universally agree Rage is the most impressive game they've ever seen on consoles and can not believe it's running on consoles(360). Not just for its visuals but also because it's a technical marvel in every category possible. The consensus in non pro PS3 forums and chat rooms agree.

gta_manic5073d ago

is it hard getting by with one bubble?

MNicholas5073d ago

and the texture resolution is run-of-the-mill for current gen games.

What's more, there's no evidence of the kind of fancy shader work that current gen games are required to have. It's all rather flat and cartoony. Almost like cell-shading.

WLPowell5073d ago

Is painted on in Rage (which is why screenshots look good)... try again. In motion Killzone's engine is still above and beyond anything else. In motion, Rage falls into Gears territory where you start to see what corners they cut to get their results.

Graphics aren't that important; sure they're nice and all but yeaa...

Killzone 2's gameplay wasn't that great, it was fun for a while but nothing worth returning too. That being said Killzone 2 is still a good game just nowhere even remotely close to a game I'd say I really enjoyed.

WLPowell5073d ago

You're opinion on how much fun you had is irrelevant to the topic at hand.

WLPowell5073d ago (Edited 5073d ago )

WhatARump5073d ago

That's where you're wrong!

Graphics are worthless if a game isn't fun -.-

baodeus5074d ago (Edited 5074d ago )

so how big are KZ2 compare to a Rage? both of these game aren't even out yet, and KZ is still in alpha stage. So even with the content cut, how big is Rage compare to KZ? We don't know, but from what we see so far, Rage already has towns and open exploration while KZ doesn't.

It is kinda useless to post anything that unfavorable to PS3. Sony fanboy can't accept anything else.

Resident Evil 5 already look better than KZ2 (much better lighting and textures), and they i guess they don't want to mention that. Last time i check, KZ2 didn't win in graphics either. And what technical bar has KZ2 set for gamming?

@al Bundy,

Go compare any video in Resident Evil 5 (lighting, close up texture, explosion) to KZ2, and see which one looks better. Post up videos.

rock_solid5074d ago

Killzone 2 is 5 hours long max, Rage has more contents, large scale levels. blows up everything found in KZ3D.

SpLinT5074d ago

KZ2 had 8 online maps and only 5 modes (one was 1 minute long and the other was tdm) . Real great content for you. Oh and its 7 hour SP. Great content. With all maps being dark and gray.

palaeomerus5074d ago (Edited 5074d ago )

I thought Rage just got divided up into sections so it would fit on several dvd's with no swapping?

emitsomla5073d ago

Rage justs looks better... Rage has exceeded KZ in terms of better lighting and animation, which killzone is known for. AND IT"S RUNNING AT 60fps!!!! Look at the environments, KZ-3 colors (GREY IS THE PRIMARY COLOR), blurry, and the fall-off of detail is poor (i have KZ2, so you fanbois cant tell me shyt). Rage environments KILLS KZ: Rage- colorfull, bright and beautiful when necessary, and can see in the distant. You fanbois are going overboard with your Killzone overhype! WE ALL SHOULD BE HAPPY THAT RAGE IS MULTIPLAT!

N4g_null5073d ago

No one cares if it got content cut, All games get content cut. It makes a better game most of the time.

Tech wise killzone is not even close. What they are using is a crazy amount to obscure the draw distance and action. Killzone is scripted events on steroids and it's great fun i guess.

Rage lacks this simply because of their visual style. It's not going to be as good on the consoles yet it's a true Miracle that it's even running on consoles.

What is even funny is you guys are attacking the one tech that even makes blu ray more viable. Yet you will still have to install it lol.

Oh well the console hardcore have spoken more particle effects and texture detail is not a must.

Now on pure style I would say I like killzone better game play wise I think i'll like rage better.

menoyou5073d ago

Indeed. Rage looks nice but it's nothing special. Killzone 2 blew everyone away and Killzone 3 is a huge upgrade. Guerilla are elite developers.

rkimoto5073d ago

Who cares which game "wins" in aesthetics, if they're both great, we all win!!

I'm really excited about both games, I like FPS' and seems that we're going to have an overload of them the next year or so.

sid4gamerfreak5073d ago

why is this all so dramatic? CLash of epic proportions? It would suit crysis 2 vs killzone 2 but no rage.

You guys do realize that Rage is FRICKIN OPEN WORLD??? ANd killzone IS FRCKIN LINEAR??

What does this prove? That of course killzone's gonna win. The action sequences are much better in killzone. BUt killzone aint a open world game, is it?

I don't care which looks better, hell I don't care which console version of Rage looks better.

However if Rage just so happens to look better on the 360 I will start to wonder why its only now after 5 years we start to see the 360 show some muscle?

That said I do own a 46 inch Bravia and didn't enjoy Alan Wake or Splinter Cell Coniction any less even if they had been boasted to be the next graphical kings, so I just don't care anymore!

I love great looking games and will continue to and so far the PS3 has shown more great looking exclusives and if that should change in the 360's favour I really don't give a s*** because by now you guys should own both if you want to call yourselves gamers.

AtatakaiSamurai5074d ago

Killzone 3 looks amazing
RAGE looks amazing
Both play on my PS3

No editor for consoles...:(

360 gamers need not start crap about the "superiority" of 360's graphics.
It's a multiplatform game. Looks great on all platforms. Everyone should be happy. BTW, Rage looks to me, like a graphically jacked Borderlands, which is too a great game. Please stop using multiplatform games to compare to exclusives. It's old. We get it. You love your system. We all love ours. Remember who the demigod of video games said:

dork07835073d ago

In some parts rage looks better plus its locked in on 60 frames per a second you can't beat that.

KILLERAPP5074d ago

What is this infamous vs. prototype part 2, if you have a PS3 you can play both so I don’t see the comparison and if you only have a 360 well then I don’t see that you have a choice…

AtatakaiSamurai5074d ago (Edited 5074d ago )

360 gamers always seem to take multiplats and pretend to high heaven that they are exclusive. That's one of the only chances they have of actually landing decent exclusives for their 5yr old console that only hands them out very sparingly

Sad I know but they have themselves to blame cause it's what they love to support.

baodeus5073d ago

you don't get the point of the conversation, PS3 technical level just not as great as the fanboy make it out to be.

It is really up to the developer to optimize the game to make it look the way it is. Except PC, console are quite limited and many games look great because developers use tricks to make them look that way. KZ2 is full of tricks.

Here is are some examples: (here is some of the technical aspect of KZ2 that set the bar for graphics that fanboy claimed)

http://www.youtube.com/watc...
-Draw in shadow (0:02), the helgast standing right in front of the door, yet no shadow were cast on the door while the pillars behind him do.
-Wind doesn't have any physical properties (0.28,4:06) the exploded barrel creating smoke that doesn't go as the same speed as the wind and dust of the level, (4:06) the cloths are blowing in the opposite direction of the wind...really?
-stupid AI (3:21 - 3:40) they keep going to the same spot to get shot, why? Is that a sign of smart AI? Probably on the same level of Fanboy on this site.
-Painted blob of lights (4:32 - 5:41), really that what lighting looks like, try to compare that to RE5 lighting to see the differences. RE5 actually have real lighting emitting outward.
-Bad Texture (4:38), and especially this N64 texture (4:53).

If you guys disagree (as always), then would you care to explain what i see above (i play KZ in HD before so i know what it looks like.)

Stop pulling out UC2, KZ2, MGS4, Gow3 over and over as proof of PS3 technical power when there really isn't any concrete evidences to show it. These game are great, but the technical apsect really blown out of proportion.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance1138368d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim368d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC368d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance1138368d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle368d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix76368d ago

@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.
Not too bad for an ip that's only been on market for 6 years

Wow, very impressive. I didn't know the numbers were so high for Forbidden West. Still playing through it myself

thesoftware730368d ago (Edited 368d ago )

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger367d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca368d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy368d ago (Edited 368d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

potatoseal368d ago

They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.

Imalwaysright368d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.

Killzone 3 is playable with mouse & keyboard on PC via RPCS3 & KAMI

DSOGaming writes: "While Sony does not plan to release Killzone 3 on the PC, Yahfz shared a video that gives us a glimpse at what such a PC version could look like."

Still looks secure 2 gens later... one of my favorite ps3 moments. With 3D and move the game is on another level

MadLad1119d ago

PC almost always ends up the best place to play games, even if it takes a while.

What would you rather play decades down the line? A game at a fixed resolution and frame, considering you have a working disc, and the hardware?
Or run it on an emulator that can update the experience all around, and let you use whatever control input you prefer?

If you insist on the former, it's really only for the sake of nostalgia.

Applejack1119d ago

I disagree. The main draw for consoles has always be the simplicity of just putting the disc in / downloading it and playing without worrying about anything else. The average person just wouldn’t want to deal with emulation even though it’s very important for preservation.

Terry_B1119d ago

Even emulators are super simple to use.

jukins1119d ago

Youre getting flak because people on here thibk of themselves as pc wizards. But honestly most poeple try and go get emulators and romz they end up with malware.. yes theyre "easy" if you know the basics but alot of people dont. That said the fact that its taken nearly 20 years to get a sustantially better experience for ps3 games than on its native system shows the complexity of getting bc to work. Sony, if they have any intention, should just invest in a vastly better psnow experience.

jukins

Most people who emulate don't get malware, you'd have to be going to some weird sites for that to happen, heck years ago people were getting sketchier ad's resulting in malware warning on this site if you didn't have a ad-blocker lol.

SinkingSage1118d ago

Can't get malware if you legally dump your own games, which you should.

Rachel_Alucard1118d ago (Edited 1118d ago )

That's fine if that's the main draw, but it doesn't make it a better experience, just a preference. Having the freedom to do the things you can do on PC is what the appeal of PC is. Buying a game on PC means you never have to worry about the console makers just deciding the next hardware shouldn't support the generation anymore, which means everything you bought is stuck on that hardware instead of moving up with everything else. Nintendo uses this tactic to keep reselling the same games over and over at inflated prices. Sony cut all previous gens off the PS4 and sold it back to people in a poor attempt with PSnow. While the PS5 supports PS4 games, that may not be the case in the next gen after this. No to mention shutting off all the previous stores and updates completely. Even MS stopped making new BC titles at some point, so now there's a big list with 17 pages of titles that are not playable on Xbone and are just trapped on older gen. That's not a problem on PC, the reverse happens where you only have to worry if your hardware can play the newest releases at ultra with no issue.

AzubuFrost1119d ago

Shhh don't say that aloud! You're going to trigger a lot of console infidels here.

Shane Kim1119d ago

I rather play it when it's available then wait 10 years.

MadLad1118d ago

Did you purposely miss the entire point of my post?

Inverno1119d ago

Well that's the beauty of still owning a retro console tho. Those who usually complain about emulation are just being blindly loyal to a company. Emulation is great for many reason, but if I still owned the console then I disagree nothing beats plugging it back in and going down a nostalgia trip

The RPCS3 devs are doing great work. And Kami works nicely with it too it seems.
Very neat.

Magatsuhi1118d ago

Been playing mgo on pc with mouse. It's not perfect but I can make it work.

Binarycode1118d ago

2 is the better game.

A Remake would be good. 60fps 2-4k

Omar3li1118d ago

60fps is peasant for FPS games now

Top 10 PS3 Games We Hope Come Back On PS5

While Xbox has committed to backwards compatibility spanning four generations, PlayStation has continued their stance that the feature isn't important. Well, it is! I'm hoping these PlayStation 3 classics that skipped the PS4 entirely show up again on the PS5 for everyone to enjoy.

Resistance, Dead Space franchise, Splatterhouse, Lollipop Chainsaw, Brutal Legends, Alice Madness Returns, Enslaved Journey to the West, Mass Effect franchise. Also wouldn't mind seeing a new Wild Arms game remake or HD remaster, the Xenosaga trilogy, a new Parasite Eve, a new Dino Crisis just too many games to list that are forgotten and left in the dark now adays.

Sciurus_vulgaris1296d ago

The PS3 is difficult to emulate. PS3 backwards compatibility on PS5 would require translation from PowerPC to x86. Additionally the PS5 likely would have to mimic the PS3’s GPU and CPU.

This is what pops up on my web browser. So I can't even read the site. So, forget that. They don't need my data.

But let's get something straight. OG Xbox had around 1,001 games. How many are BC on Series X? **39** THIRTY NINE. Come on! That's wack BC. You can't tell me that's a complete list. Talking about commitment. Game preservation. Ridiculous. Covers nothing.

How many games released on Xbox 360? Around 2085. How many are BC?
568. That's it. Around 1,517 are **MISSING** Stop playing. Tired of that nonsense.

Anyway, the only games I really want from PS3 that would be awesome are Motorstorm and MGS4. I'll take BC. I'll take a remaster. I'll take a remake. If not those, then Killzone 2. And in VR, maybe Sports Champions, House of the Dead Overkill and the Time Crisis games.

That's all I need. But we've gone over BC again and again in every possible way. It wasn't that important because Sony sold 115 million consoles without it. That's proof enough with no outcry. And PS5 has damn near all 4,000+ PS4 games BC. It's not PS1,PS2 and PS3. But that's plenty. I'll take more but you get what you get.
