Pocket Gamer:
While Capcom's action adventure game Okami was impressive in terms of its hand drawn graphics and gameplay - enabling players to draw items onscreen using Japanese calligraphy - it wasn't a commercial success.
It's something of a surprise then that it's being remade for the DS in the shape of Okamiden, which sees Amaterasu, the celestial white wolf star of Okami, downsized to Chibiterasu, a baby version, and her daughter.
GameDynamo - "Okamiden picks up roughly nine months after where the original story left off. The canine goddess Amaterasu has returned to the heavenly realm, but when demons are once again found to be tormenting the denizens of Nippon, Amaterasu’s celestial pup shows up to save the day."
CVG: "The theme for the original Okami might have been 'epic' - there were at least four or five moments when we thought we were approaching the endgame, only to be presented with a vast new chunk of the map to explore."
Craig from TV and Lust spends some time with the import of Okamiden: Chisaki Taiyo on the DS, and offers his first impressions on the anticipated sequel: "If you enjoyed Okami, there’s little chance you won’t enjoy Okamiden based on what I’ve played so far. It’s incredibly similar, but loses little of the wonder and enjoyment that made the first game such a great experience."
