Portal 2 pits PC and PS3 owners against each other online

Though Steamworks isn't being allowed anywhere near the 360, for the time being, PC and PS3 owners will at least get to play together - or fight with each other in Portal 2.

i still want PS3/360 cross platform thingy... there are some who i want to tea-bag badly.. lol. q;

but just imaging the "fanboy wars" if that happens. PC fanboys versus PS3 ones... ha ha.

Fart_Bomb_Fire5061d ago (Edited 5061d ago )

that wouldn't be fair for the xbox fanboy teams, they would get owned real bad
like from 1 to 10 i give it a 50 =P. but seriously yeah, oh and imagine cross game chat, all the sh!t talking wold reach maximum level lol.

DJexs5061d ago

I am pretty sure it isn't against I was under the impression that portal 2 multiplayer is a co op game and not a vs one. But I could be wrong.

FanboyPunisher5061d ago

But PS3/360 vs eachother would actually give people reason to fight eachother..with passion; like a real war.

ABizzel15061d ago

@ Fanboy Punisher

My guess is Portal will have Move support, which will help cope with the mouse and controller difference. The only advantage PC users will have then is scrolling left to right.

totallysane5061d ago

and i'm probably gonna get so many hate respones after this but from what i've seen FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN. cause i don't play xbox. some people i play with on ps3 online like bc2 (FUCK MW2) anyway. alot of them i play with are like scary good shots. the last two days my squad hasnt lost a match because i think ps3 users are generally awesome ass shots. there i said it, let the hate mail roll in

Hideo_Kojima5061d ago

I thought 360 gamers were more hardcore...

Wont we have a disadvantage as they all have mics and talk to each other :0

looked really really nervous at the Sony press conference. I don't know how much of that was due to speaking in front of a large crowd and how much was due to him knowing that he's eating crow in front of gamers everywhere after dogging the PS3 to no end.

Microsoft_Spokesman5061d ago

That was because Kevin Butler was the VP of sharpening things.

MRHARDON5061d ago

Remember PC can use hacks and auto aim, texture hacks while PS3 cant so have fun!

Odin7775061d ago

Don't underestimate the dual shock...I've been using PS controllers since I was 9 so I'm even better with analog sticks than with a mouse. And if Portal 2 has Move support I'm sure it will be comparable to mouse control.

NarooN5061d ago

This is VALVE. They'd just patch all the exploits anyway, as well as any exploits on the PS3 version. The PS3 also has full keyboard and mouse support (but whether or not Valve will implement it is yet to be determined) so get outta here with that fanboy crap.

PhoenixDevil5061d ago

@NarooN
I heard of a adapter port thing that allows any game to b used with a keyboard n mouse, basically plugs in to 1 of the ps3s ports n the ps3 thinks its a regular controller n therefore you can use it on any game

Tho i agree with odin777, i dnt see the keyboard n mouse being that much an advantage to the dual shock, n move looks lyk it could perform well on this and many other games well i may pick it up

Matthew945061d ago

thats a stupid argument
just cuz uve been using a DS for years downt mean its good.
some one using a nes pad could say the same thing even though its outdated

Chris_TC5061d ago

You're better with an analog stick than with a mouse? Try drawing a smooth Eight (8) with your crosshair.

ruiner44825061d ago

Try playing someone with even moderate skill on a mouse, and watch the kills get lopsided! :p

PhoenixDevil5061d ago

I think its pretty arrogant that ppl assume that those using a keyboard n mouse will automatically trounce someone using a console controller

In my case I grew up playing with a console controller n can kick ass, I'm not the best but i dnt think a guy with a keyboard n mouse is gonna have that easy a time against me just because of the keyboard n mouse

feel free to PM me about it if you want this seems an interesting topic with PC/PS3 games happening

ha, the xbox360 12 year olds & mlg tourney guys would destroy pretty much everyone else. you neckbeards on the other hand can talk the talk but cant walk the walk.

totallysane5061d ago

o yeah, the fuckin pre pubescent 12 year old is whats ruining the hardcore gaming. they go online to the forums and say how mw2 was the best shooter out there. when we all know if u have at least half a brain cell and are over the age of 20 you want somethin a touch more realistic like bc2.

mcslick1015061d ago (Edited 5061d ago )

Shut up, asswipe. 360 players are NOOBS! Except for maybe at MW2, but PC gamers would DESTROY you Xbots at all other games. We're all win, win, win. Xbots are all fail, fail, fail ;).

IaMs125061d ago

Thats awesome, i know what side ill be playing on! I hope they really start implementing this for multiplatform games, means more people to play with. Also would be awesome if there was a filter where you could just play with PS3 people if your on a PS3 and PC with PC. Also where you can have just a big brawl of whom ever. Also i hope they have some sort of indicator of who is on which plateform when playing

vmartin125061d ago

Another Battle between Mouse and Controller - Who shall win? Gotta love it when developers bring two platforms together... It only creates a better community for a game..

mcslick1015061d ago

PC Gamers would win hands down. We have the biggest freaks and biggest hackers.

Pennywise5061d ago

Nice. I hope to see more games with cross platform gameplay. DC online anyone?

Dnied5061d ago

Havnt seen this since FFXI which worked out well for many people

I expect FFXIV to be the same too

future looks bright for valve/sony if they start cooperating like this... future looks bright for all of us

kingjoker345061d ago

Day 1 buy for me, I love that it is getting this much support for ps3

AKS5061d ago

I'm pretty sure FF XIV will indeed have this.

Larry L5061d ago

There have been a few others that have had cross-platform play. Phantasy Star Universe had cross-platform play between PC, PS2 and 360.

I actually own a PSP game that has x-platform between it and PC, though it's just a lame kinda game, Marvel Trading Card Game.

I think I heard the new Magic The Gathering is cross-platform between PS3 and PC.

If The Agency ever releases, that was planned to be cross-platform play as well. Though I'm not sure if I heard that changed or not.

Originally Unreal Tournament 3 was going to have PS3-PC cross platform play as well, but they canned that idea thinking there would be a skill discrepency. I think they should have kept it. I think it would have added to the popularity of the title. Instead they only allowed dedicated PC servers on the PS3 version. I really wish they just went that extra step.

cyborg69715061d ago

What I don't understand is why hasn't this been done long ago with other multipats. It only makes sense. If it's technical I understand but I doubt it is.

Redempteur5061d ago

pride is the issue ..

there are some technicals things to do ..but it was far from being impossible ..

beardpapa5061d ago

i take it portal 2 gets cross-platform multiplayer because of steam. I'm not sure about DC online. Is that through SOE? At least we know square provides cross-platform multiplayer with FF14, but i'm not familiar if SOE ever provided that kind of versatility.

HighDefinition5061d ago

"It only does everything"

Nice. People just start making PC/PS3 exclusives both give you so many more options.

ALFAxD_CENTAURO5061d ago (Edited 5061d ago )

So PS3 have Steam Play and Steam Cloud.

MAC have Steam Play too for Portal 2.

Which is PS3 + PC + MAC to play together.

DC Universe probably will have the same thing to play PS3 and PC Gamers in the same servers and use the same account in both platforms.

Or Final Fantasy XIV Online too.

Mr_Bun5061d ago

Guess MS could still call this a 360 exclusive, seeing as they can only play exclusively with each other

HighDefinition5061d ago

Bun........They get the "exclusive rights" to the lesser version. Duh.... Just like MOH and DeadSpace2.

Montrealien5061d ago (Edited 5061d ago )

bah, the best version of Portal 2 and steam is on the PC. Where did all the super gaming rigs the PS3 fanboys have go to?

lol

With that said, it is refreshing to see so many people finally seeing Valve as the great dev they are.

Rock Bottom5061d ago

According to 360 fanboys, PS3 owners with super gaming rigs is a myth.

Pennywise5061d ago

Yeah, if we say we have a PC we are a liar. If we say we will buy it for PS3, they want to know where our PC's are.

TBH Montrealien... I have a gaming PC. Its ready to go for any game out there that is for PC only that I can not play on my PS3 and get some trophies. I can hook my PC up to my TV and it plays fine. I even have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard. PC's are a pain though... It isn't plug and play like a console.

Mr_Bun5061d ago

Pay no attention to Montrealien. He is basically the physical manifestation of the "Comic Book Guy" from the Simpsons.

Anyone that calls any console out for any reason is a fanboy and he has taken it upon himself to be the hall monitor of N4G simply because working at a video game store means that he represents all that is unbiased in the gaming world

Rock Bottom5061d ago (Edited 5061d ago )

My PC can run any game out there too(not in high sitting 120fps, but it can still make them look better than their console counterpart), and even though I'd call my self a console gamer as that where most of my gaming goes(been spending more time on SC in the past two months than anything else though), some games are just better played on PC, I will always get the PC version of any valve game.

I would usually wait until it appear on a special weekend deal though, steam service is the best. :)

HairyArse5061d ago

You would think 360 vs PC would be the easier option to code.

mrv3215061d ago

Microsoft greatly limits their games online, if you go to PS3 and play online 2 games can have completely different systems. Microsofts XBL two games have very similar online because they are all running Microsoft code, it took EA a huge battle in order to use dedicated servers on XBL on PS3 I don't believe that problem was true.

Proxy5061d ago

Well, who you going to report a PC griefer to that your playing with on XBL?

You: "This PC guy keep spamming on the mic that I was stupid for paying 50$ a year for XBL."

MS: "Sorry, we can't do much about it."

AKS5061d ago (Edited 5061d ago )

Just look at Warhawk. There are multiple setups for online play (dedicated, hosting, ect) you can use just within that one game. Sony has been pretty flexible with online.

PotNoodle5061d ago

Its to do with the steam integration more. If you're going to do cross-platform online play on 360 i'm fairly sure the PC version has to run on games for windows live to give Microsoft some control over the online, and with games for windows live being a competitor to steam, valve wouldn't do that.

Steam's highest-rated game is now less than a dollar in the Spring Sale

Jack writes: "Yet again browsing the latest offers in the Steam Spring Sale has led us to track down the very best. In terms of price to quality, we don’t think that it gets much better than this. Portal 2 is now less than a dollar, and if you haven’t got it already, now is the time to pick it up."

TheEroica38d ago

Portal deserves to be one of steams highest rated games... It's almost tetris levels of perfect game design.

TheEnigma31338d ago

It's a great game, but highly overrated. But for $1, it's an amazon deal.

Friendlygamer38d ago

Valve should bring their games to ps5

Kados37d ago (Edited 37d ago )

Gotta love Steam. Just got Portal 2 for .97 cents CAD. Should have been $1.29, selected the bundle with Portal 1 and 2, which gets a 25% discount, already have Portal 1, so it removes the cost of that, and still applies the full 25% bundle discount to Portal 2. 90% + 25% discount.

Friendlygamer37d ago

That's sweet, I've been thinking about building a modest pc to play some oldies

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name45d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno45d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno45d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure44d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.

this industry is fucking over.
