great article, getting playstation plus as soon as i can, great work guys, cannot wait for cross voice chat.

tplarkin75080d ago

He totally trashed PS Plus. The reason he trashed it is because PS Plus is garbage.

joel_c175080d ago

Ur face is trash. Nice opinion tho.

ReservoirDog3165080d ago

Yeah, this was a terrible article from a "glass if half empty" kinda guy. Even that sounds too nice for how bleak this guy is though.

But, PSN+ looks kinda worth it when you're a regular buyer or PSN games (me). I've spent nearly $70 on PSN games just since the beginning of this year. Only thing holding me back is I'm broke and I'm not sure what happens with game sharing when only your account has PSN+. It's actually a legitimate concern. But outside of that, looks worth it for me.

BloodyNapkin5080d ago

No i did not read it cause soon as the tool said "suck on that xbots", i quit reading.

LiquifiedArt5080d ago (Edited 5080d ago )

I'd advise against game sharing. #1 it was never meant to be used outside of household, thats just dumb.

#2 Giving your account information to someone is one of the most FOOLISH things to do. IF your friends ps3 breaks or is stolen, not only will you lose one of your actiivations, but if it was stolen the thief now has access to entire psn.

#3 Your only allowed 4 PS3 activiations with you account name on it. If you do not De-activiate, you could be a ps3 with no way to put your username on it.

#4 if #3 doens't bother you then let me reiterate. If you log onto someone else's name, then you download something off the PS Store, you have just ACTIVATED that PS3 for that persons PSN id. Say your ps3 breaks and you throw it away, you just lost 1 of your 4 activiations (if you didnt get it to sony's hands to repair it, they will deactiviate it for you). If your friend has your name thats your 2nd activation, buying a new ps3 to replace the broken one is your 3rd activiation.

#5 Read #4 again and realize how game sharing beyond the reach of your household is a nieve and completley stupid. For the $ you would of saved, you'd be better off managing your own ps3 and buying the games.

Reibooi5080d ago

Everyone who keeps complaining about PSN+ is a retard for lack of a better word. The simple fact is that you don't NEED to sign up for it. However if you do the amount of games and discounts you are getting FAR surpasses what you pay to get it. Those who are active in downloading PSone games and minis as well as the bigger PSN games like Wipeout will save a crap load of money with PSN+ not to mentioned Sony already said they will be releasing more and more into the service as time goes on.

If you don't like it that's fine but you don't have to pay for it no one is forcing you and seeing as how that's the case it's not a bad idea.

is overrated when im playing a great game especially a great single player game; say like Heavy Rain or Alan Wake i dont want to be bothered by my friends talking to me about stupid shit.

P1NKY5080d ago (Edited 5080d ago )

I love Cross Game Chat. I used it all the time on Xbox, not because it was there but because it was useful. By using Cross Game Chat you can talk to your friends as soon as you sign into PSN. You dont have to sit there text messaging people to come on a game so that you can talk, or by phoning them. Also if you or a friend cant join a game for some reason you can tell your friend staight away that something has gone wrong rather than texting and waiting for a text back.

If im playing a game like FallOut 3 and another friend was playing it, I would rather be talking to them whilst im playing than just sitting there silently. You can talk about what your doing, how to find something, or just general discussion.

If you haven't ever used Cross Game Chat / Party Chat (XBL) then dont dismiss this feature. You have to try it to see what its all about. It makes everything seem connected.

PSN should be a way of easily communicating with your friends, but at the moment it seems more like a barrier. However everything else on PSN works fine. It just lacks in the communication department compared with XBL.

BloodyNapkin5080d ago

Well you must not understand how it works, and it just show you have not used a xbox with it. It is not about cross game chat. You can private chat with a friend or friends and play the same game and not listen to everyone else. You can do anything on your xbox and chat with friends, unlike being stuck in the chat room on playstation and being stuck to that room. And if you do not want to be bothered while playing a game just go invisible and it shows you offline to people. Nothing better sending a quick chat recording or voice chat to see what your friend is going to play or do. And send a cross game invite which will automatically put him in your game and join your team or party if there is a spot open.

The only people that think that cross game chat is overrated is Playstation fanboys that have never used it.

Pika-pie5080d ago

I thought this would be a sensible and informative article. Instead is some whinney child being sarcastic.

GROW UP Robert Chang of PSBeyond!!.. Thanks for wasting my time.

jack_burt0n5080d ago

Its not funny just shit, here is my version:

PS+ = PSN game rental service and full game trial system only recommended for the hardcore: $4 a month.

saint_john_paul_ii5080d ago

the service would of been worth it if it had cloud storage

i know this is the beginning, but they are slow when it comes to delivering. hopefully this will speed up the process

Nodoze5080d ago

That was the ONLY feature I was looking for. I have already lost 2 PS3's and ALL of my corresponding games saves....twice. I don't want that to happen again. At least with the 360 you can pop your old drive back on to a new system this is not something you can do with the PS3.

Additionally it would allow multiple ps3 homes (like ours) to have 'roaming profiles'.

CLOUD storage and I am in. As it stands it is simply not worth it.

gamer78045080d ago

Its a rental system where you don't get to choose the game.

TresTrendu5080d ago

How do you figure it's a rental system? I know what a rental service is cause i have gamefly and such. And i get to choose what games i rent.

Godmars2905080d ago

This is still an argument between an optional subscription plan (PSN+) versus a required one (XBL). That Sony's been offering online access for free all this time, while 360 users crap all over it, doesn't help things now that Sony is trying to figure out how to get someone to pay.

MorganX5080d ago

This offer makes me think Sony will simply not be able to implement an infrastructure comparable to XBL. What they offer for free is good. It works for the basics. But for a true online experience with all the bells and whistles for $50/yr or less, Sony has nothing worthy to offer. If users reject this silly subscription service, maybe they'll work on the infrastructure.

totallysane5080d ago

fine noones twisting your arm to get it, they havnt even released it yet and you people are already trashing it

Justin_bristoe5080d ago

..what the jell make u xbugs keep saying live is better than the psn??..facebook and twitter??..we have everything u have for free and more..somebody answer me

BryanBegins5080d ago

@Justin:

On Live, while playing a game, you can talk to someone else who is playing ANOTHER game. It's supposed to be freaking awesome and totally worth the 50$ a year. \s

Nodoze5080d ago

Sony is navigating the patent mine field of Microsoft. MS patented in game music, and live. This is one of the reasons we don't see a direct correlation on the PS3. As for the chat, I don't understand why they just don't leverage Skype and be done with it. Skype is already on the PSP (where is makes no sense at all as a mobile non connected device).

MorganX5080d ago

It would be worth $50/yr just to:

Have a consistent and 2-click invite system unless developer "chooses" to create their own.

Be able to truly block or mute users universally.

File complaints from a gamertag, not online form in web browser.

User peer rating.

Not have to pray for decent game servers.

Private chat, or party chat, or xgame chat anywhere anytime.

Have previews or screenshots for every game on sale in the store.

Be able to read everything in the store on any size screen from just about any reasonable distance.

Download while system shut-down.

sikbeta5080d ago (Edited 5080d ago )

No, you guys don't see the appeal here cos Sony gives you FREE PSN and then you can have PS+, maybe you would see more appeal if sony join PSN and PS+ and make you pay for it...

Godmars2905080d ago (Edited 5080d ago )

But PSN+, specifically PSN+ will never be comparable to XBL because 1) its not required and 2) regular PSN offers most of the basics that XBL has. In-game invites and cross chat are the only fundamentals that make XBL worth having past the obviousness of online, and as of now its still up in the air weather Sony will be offering their version of these for free or through PSN+. For some reason, people feel they have a right to b*tch, refuse to get PSN+, should Sony choose the latter, so basically they're damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Nevermind that Sony's just getting started with PSN+. That, more than likely, they'll do things similar to LastFM but wont ask for additional separate fees. Will have people complaining about that while ignoring or unaware that you can stream music now off the browser.

Heck, the only thing that's going to settle this is if MS made online free while keeping online community features paid, but we all know that that's not going to happen.

The Service is great the guy who wrote the article is a douche.

tplarkin75080d ago

Seriously! The "service" is already available now! You get nothing but a Sony tease for $50/yr.

Kurt Russell5080d ago

I'll be swerving this - seems completely pointless. And I completely disagree with "Free Games and Downloads" - How can they be free when your shelling out $50 a year?

xAlmostPro5080d ago

maybe because you get a PSN title, 2 minis and a ps1 classic for free each month adding upto around $200 at the end of the year, plus all the free themes and avatars.. so your getting around $150 of content a year free.. thats what 48 games

Lirky5080d ago

If u unsubscribe that article said everything is wiped clean, like things you buy too i guess. I thought if something thats discounted and u buy it ull keep it when u unsubscribe. Like if someone paid 3 months and like they buy a psone game and 2 psn games at a discount.. then suddenly they figured thats all they wanted.

... Suddenly sony takes those "paid" items from them.

extermin8or5080d ago

its only the free games a mobnth that go, and they are frozen, u get it all back when you resubscribe

ALFAxD_CENTAURO5080d ago (Edited 5080d ago )

Full games downloaded, Themes, Avatars and other stuff they give you trough PS+, they stay there in the system even when you are unsubscribe after.

I believe if you unsubscribe, The Trial Games and Betas downloaded will be no longer available in the system.

Justin_bristoe5080d ago

You ask why Xbox live is superior to PSN?

1. Exclusive offers.
2. Discounts.
3. Automatic patches (Hell Silver members get these LOL, you have to pay for it!)
4. Exclusive demos
5. Cross game chat, aka PARTIES, Which Sony still doesnt have.
6. Rep system (nobody wants to play with Trolls)
7. Easy to use dashboard

These are just some reasons why XBLG is better than PSN.

MORGiON5080d ago

@Garnett

Another blind fanboy to add to the list...

xAlmostPro5080d ago

were getting cross game chat, sony have said so.. & we wont be getting charged for it by the looks of things.. and rep system is bullcrap.. i have a 360 & when i used to pay for live and play it almost everyones rep was full because either nobody rates anyone or all there friends have rated them amazing..

danielle0075080d ago

It doesn't matter, if you avoid a player then you're avoiding them. Odds are you won't ever see them again. I've avoided plenty of people, and never saw them again.

Plus, the stars don't necessarily go with your reputation, I guess. My friend had like 60% of people avoiding him, and he still had 5 stars. He was one of those GH jerks and he bragged. I don't really understand what the stars mean.

Plus, until xgame chat is confirmed for the PS3 outside of PSN+, I'm not going to get all happy and excited.

HDgamer5080d ago (Edited 5080d ago )

Lol you're pathetic.

You ask why Xbox live is superior to PSN?

1. Exclusive offers.
Yeah same thing except you we don't pay

2. Discounts.
All day everyday

3. Automatic patches (Hell Silver members get these LOL, you have to pay for it!)
We never pay for patches at all but I know both consoles pay for dlc.

4. Exclusive demos
The same demos that hit psn the same week or before it reaches XBL?

5. Cross game chat, aka PARTIES, Which Sony still doesnt have.
You got that from the XBL update and this is coming

6. Rep system (nobody wants to play with Trolls)
Universal block button. Sorry it's something you don't have

7. Easy to use dashboard
You must be retarded if you can't even use the xmb but hey I have a retarded cousin who can use it. I guess that makes you slower than him.

These are just some reasons why XBLG is better than PSN.

PSN is superior for a lot of reasons.
1. Dedicated servers
2. Unique and variety of games
3. Cross platform game play coming very soon.
4. Exclusives
5. Hate to say it but home over your avatars.

Microsoft had a good idea but fumbled it again.

Project Spark idea was decent but they quickly gave up ..
LBP was wonderful

ApocalypseShadow5d ago

Microsoft in a nutshell. Always tried to poach Sony employees, games, 3rd party games and devices like the depth camera that was turned into Kinect but was running on PS2 before Xbox 360. Wouldn't be surprised they wanted LBP. Just like they worked behind the scenes pushing the MLB to bring Sony's baseball game to Xbox instead of making their own.
https://www.playstationlife...

They didn't spend years trying to develop their own baseball game. They wanted Sony's game.

They're scum.

Zachmo1824d ago

Microsoft didn't force MLB on Xbox. MLB gave Sony 2 options either go multiplat or risk losing the license.

Rynxie4d ago

And why do you think MLB said that? I believe Ms approached MLB.

ApocalypseShadow4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Totally ridiculous comment.

The only exclusivity Sony had was to their own creation of The Show. Microsoft could have paid the MLB for the license just like Sony did and made their own baseball game.

Microsoft instead, groomed MLB for years in trying to poach Sony's game and bring it to Xbox. They're worth 3 TRILLION dollars. You think that's not enough money to make their own baseball game? Don't be delusional.

Microsoft spun it like they always do and told the media that they had to trust Sony with their hardware. After they put Sony in that position of not having a choice. Either go multiplatform or stop making one of their successful games. That's a no win scenario.

And what did Microsoft do? They didn't try to sell the game to the Xbox community. They put it on game pass to hurt Sony. Pushing the idea of why buy games that are $70 when you can play them in their cheap service for $10. It was a dirty tactic.

You fell for the Kool aid drink Microsoft served you instead of spitting it out. Hope it tasted good because you were fooled by Phil and the gang.

Xbox executive Sara Bond has told Axios that Microsoft spent a number of years trying to get MLB The Show onto Xbox consoles. And when it finally succeeded in breaking off PlayStation’s long-held exclusivity, the company had to “trust” Sony with pre-release Xbox Series X/S consoles.

Bond revealed that MLB The Show “always came up” in conversations between Microsoft and the Major League Baseball organization. “We always said, ‘We love this game. It would be a huge opportunity to bring it to Xbox.'” she recalled. However, when Microsoft’s efforts materialized, it put the company in an awkward situation where it had to send in pre-release consoles to a rival company.

Lying to yourself is unbecoming.

Article link tells you all you need to know in Sarah Bond's own words.

Hereandthere3d ago

They were too cheap/inept/lazy to develop their own mlb game, so they port begged for years and bribed the mlb to make the show multiplatform. Like i said many times, xbox brought nothing to the table their 24 years, ZERO.

ApocalypseShadow3d ago

At least you and others get it. Note drank the Kool aid and asked for seconds thinking it was refreshing.

Most don't even know how it all played out but it's there in black and white for all to see. Microsoft brought it up for years until the MLB forced Sony's hand. It was a win win for Microsoft. Kill one reason to buy a PlayStation or kill the game by dropping it in a cheap service to kill Sony's sales numbers on PlayStation.

OtterX4d ago

"However, Healey said Media Molecule wouldn't have felt right doing that, adding it would have been "morally corrupt"."

Major kudos to Media Molecule for being an upright studio with principles.

Cockney3d ago

They chose well, Sony gave them the backing to pursue their dreams with no restrictions even tho their games especially dreams have very niche appeal. Media molecule and Sony deserve respect for this in an age of risk averse publishing.

RNTody4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Great, more stories like this please. Show the last of the zombies holding the line what we've been saying for years: Microsoft is anti competition, anti industry and has no interest in making games at all.

But hey, at least there's an Xbox Games Showcase to look forward to, right?

Inverno4d ago

Well considering SONY just killed the series, LBP would've been dead by now either way. Though MM probably wouldn't exist by now either, so I'm glad they stayed with SONY, hopefully they don't get shut down any time soon or ever honestly.

Inverno4d ago

They shut down the servers, that's millions of user created levels gone. That and dead are pretty much the same, it's also been years since 3 and they cancelled HUB soooo.

4d ago
fsfsxii4d ago

They shutdown the servers because no one was playing, no one in the community cared about the user created levels so why keep them up? Wtf you guys would never succeed in running a business.

Inverno4d ago

Yea dood no one was playing so they shut off the servers. Cause people with enough common sense can't just Google why they were actually shut of, right?
