E3: Sony: 'watch this space' for Last Guardian

NG: "One of the biggest surprises of Sony's E3 conference this year wasn't an announcement, but the lack of an announcement relating to The Last Guardian."

Seems like Sony is holding alot of stuff back for TGS and Gamescom.....it's cool though, it gives us more to look forward to in the coming months.

saint_john_paul_ii5072d ago

they have too many games and announcements, they have to spread them out somehow.

Montrealien5072d ago (Edited 5072d ago )

So you actually think that at the Sony press conference they could not skipped the EA showcase and stick to all their awesome IPs that us gaming fans are really looking for? Deap space 2, Portal 2, and Medal of honor took way to much show time. Same goes for Activision at MS`s conference.

imho, they could of spared us the EA multiplat circle jerk and give us more Sony games.

AssassinHD5072d ago

I would have liked to see more Sony games as well, but remember they have to keep their publishing partners happy too. I think the EA presence at the Sony conference was more about giving EA some extra exposure than anything.

Montrealien5072d ago (Edited 5072d ago )

there is always another show, I know....wait and see.

I would of prefered more Sony games, and MS games at their respective press conferences. And I was replying to pop_john_paul_II claiming they have to many games to announce and that is why we did not see the missing Sony exclussives at the Press conference. When, 30 minutes of the shows is dedicated to EA and UBI multiplat games, that defense makes no sense.

Especially when the guy on the Sony stage jabs the competition with the fact thet they will not show us games we already know about, only new games. Then we get Sorcery, which looks awesome followed by....Tiger Woods.

I am just critisizing Sony`s press event here, not hating on them.

raztad5072d ago

@montrealien

Guy above said it well, but I want to add you are pretty short sighted on this topic. The exclusives are there, in such quantities they had to announce them before the event. Still everybody was surprised by TM, and some other nice games.

It's obvious Sony is partnering hard with EA. That partnership is huge for the PS brand as a whole. BC2, now MoH got a lot of PS3 love. Sony is starting to win strong support from third parties they have to share the wealth.

saint_john_paul_ii5072d ago

as much as we love 1st party games, they have to show 3rd party games so that we know that they are committed to that group and make sure they lead on PS3.

thats why that annoucement was there. werent you surprised that EA was literally leading on PS3 with almost every game they showed this week?

As for Last Guardian, its best if it was shown at TGS anyway, since the game originated from there.

Montrealien5072d ago (Edited 5072d ago )

Its funny how I am seen as short sighted, yet I am the one critisizing. Imho, the short sighted person would just take everything from the press conference as good news and not question anything.

Don`t get me wrong, I am happy Sony is getting some EA love, but I am not suprised they are leading with the PS3 and have DLC deals, call me when Dead Space, Medal of Honor and Madden are exclussive games, then I will be suprised. I would of still prefered seing the Last guardian shown at the show among other great sony titles. not just multiplat games.

We hate on MS for only having multiplat games and timed exclussives, yet here we are praising Sony for the same thing.

The Great Melon5072d ago

It was kind of funny to see EA leaning towards the PS3 and Activision leaning towards Microsoft.

raztad5072d ago (Edited 5072d ago )

@montrealien

It's not "praising" it's being realistic. I'd loved to see StarHawk or other new IP, but it didnt happen for whatever reason. Yet Sony did deliver in terms of the amount of exclusives already announced (KZ3 is utterly mindblowing, inFAMOUS is superb, LBP2 is just something else), brought the MEGATON with Gabe Newell on stage + Twisted Metal being worked by the original team.

IMO Sony reached a very fine balance, but some are kinda underwhelmed because TLG was not there. Probably TGS material.

@above

Yeah big publishers are kinda taking sides. It's very interesting.

sikbeta5072d ago (Edited 5072d ago )

We'll definitely see Loads of Games at both Conferences, Gamescom is Important and I'm sure we'll see more of Those Games Announced/teased Before and on E3 + More Sequels and New IPs

TGS will have Major Support From Japanese Devs, so maybe FFvs13 will be there and TLG will Absolutely be there

This upcoming months are deciding for Sony about the PSP, if with the Current Support the PSP don't Pick up, PSP2 will be Announced at the TGS too...

Christopher5072d ago

***So you actually think that at the Sony press conference they could not skipped the EA showcase and stick to all their awesome IPs***

Not if they want a strong and long lasting partnership with EA that brings them new games (Dead Space: Extraction is a very nice gain), exclusive content, and more.

This conference isn't just about what Sony can give, it's also about what Sony is doing to help third-parties give more to their users as well.

nycredude5072d ago

Montrealien

Within the last 3 weeks Sony's has announce up to 6 or 7 1st party exclusives, not to mention some pretty cool move games, especially Sorcery that i was NOT expecting and Twisted Metal. I think exclusives are good but you have to cater to your partners also. I don't know if they have TO many games cause I don't think it's possible to have too much of a good thing, unless you can't afford it, but Sony definitely has way more than the competition.

Sevir045072d ago

There is no need to over expose first party titles at E3 when they were already going to be there anyway.
Sony announced 4 big first party games prior to E3 and then had them all on the show floor for trying out. they already got press
coverage weeks before. and tehy are ALL on the show floor, this E3 was equally parts first party, as their were about 6-7 first party games
Shown and announced for MOVE and PS3 and PSN, as it was for 3rd party. peopel always critizes Sony for Poor 3rd party support well
we got it. Key 3rd party announcements that people wanted. Mafia 2, Assassin's creed and dead space medal of honor exclusives, Steam
and Portal 2 all running on the PS3 support from valve, that means games that were once 360 exclusives now have homes on Ps3 via Steam

Montrealian, really this belly achiong about wnating to see more first party games is kinda not warrented./ this year alone Sony will have
More than 21 first party games being released that will be on disc. MOVE and PS3'3d combined thats a huge jump in retail dic exclusives
being released in conjunction to last year and the years prior where it was just 13-15 games. You wanted PS3 exclsuives first party
and you got them in the ass ton. hell you even got Twisted metal announced as the biggest megaton of the show. and quite a few third party exclusives as well.

Justquit with the complaining. They have studio's they have to choose when is the right time to release these things, because its all about finding and exploiting consumer interest. you dont Run SCE WWS, perhaps if you had an issue you should take it up with Shuhei Yoshida

Sony brought the heat. and nintendo suprised me! both of those 2 platform holders brought with them suprise 3rd party strong support and announced exclsuives by the layers. E3 for Sony and Nintendo was just awesome. relax, the have other venues for announcing things.

Magazines, press events like E3, spike tv game awards, and the internet via websites like the PSblog or IGN. The year isn't done yet.

Darkfiber5072d ago

I think it was a great idea to have Dead Space 2 at the conference, as it's a very highly anticipated sequel to a fantastic game that sold very well on PS3. With the inclusion of Dead Space Extraction for free for the Move, there's no reason they shouldn't have put that in the conference. It's a great idea, and it means a lot more people will buy the PS3 version, and Move.

RedDevils5072d ago

Twisted Metal is all I care :)

NS5072d ago

There is a big difference. MS relies 89% on 3rd party. Sony perhaps 50%. Thats why its not a big deal if Sony show 3rd party stuff.

It just a bonus that these actual exclusive content for high profile games are announced for the PS3. I doubt any PS3 fans would take these news over 1st party exclsuive news. However as already stated by someone above me. Sony needs to show support for 3rd party.

Honky Kong5072d ago

spread out becomes delay in real vision. hey! GT looks like it will come out this year!

RageAgainstTheMShine5072d ago

The EA, Valve, Ubisoft and Square Enix stuff sends a really important message to the press and to M$ about a reversal of trends concerning multiplatform games in the near future.

Remember the volume of announcements/pre E3 news releases?

And yet there is still news, hardware and game release information that may have been held back for TGS and Gamescom.

Its good to be a gamer!

niceguywii605072d ago

Yes and that is why Kevin Butler and stats talk took so much of Sony's conference. What happened to the list of exclusives you guy were waving around? Everybody had games for TGS etc but why did Sony waste time on the jackass Kevin B?

stb5072d ago (Edited 5072d ago )

You sure sound like the Jkass instead...kevin B...Aaaa...Jackass!!!please free this world of your tremendous fatuous word.

On topic; It was more than obvious how this game was supposed to appear on japanese field, lets see how this end up.

pain777pas5072d ago

Team ICO games are loved world wide by fans. This would be perfect to be left for TGS especially with what the competitors revealed. PSP does well in Japan not the States so TGS would be the perfect place to reveal PSP2 and now with 3DS laying the smackdown they most certainly have too.

What about Data Fly, StarHawk & WarDevil? and there's about another 20 1st party developers that have never ever announced anything for the PS3 for the past 3 years but are working on games for the PS3?

I guess we'll have to wait until TGS10.

EDIT: According to IGN's time table there are 12 confidential(TBA) games and 1 unannounced PS3 demo, they are going to be show at these times:

Today:

11:30PM: Confidential (TBA)
12:00PM: Confidential (TBA)
1:20PM: Confidential (TBA)
4:30PM: Confidential (TBA)
5:00PM: Confidential (TBA)
5:40PM: Confidential (TBA)
6:30PM: Confidential (TBA)

Thursday 17th:

11:40AM: Confidential (TBA)
2:20PM: Confidential (TBA)
3:40PM: Confidential (TBA)
4:00PM: Confidential (TBA)
4:20PM: Confidential (TBA)
5:30PM: Unannounced PS3 Demo <---- What's this?

A lot of these could be PS3 exclusives so make sure you keep track of them.

dabri55072d ago

I assume a lot of those titles turn into vapor ware with their tools/assets being distributed to other first party titles to help speed up development.

lodossrage5072d ago (Edited 5072d ago )

Data Fly and Wardevil went multiplatform and aren't first party anyway.

Starhawk was only just presented by lightbox not too long ago so I didn't expect that to be at E3. It was rumored for a long time. But only presented like a month or two ago

RedDevils5072d ago

pick on people little mistake. fucking looser :P

SuperStrokey11235072d ago

good find, ill have to take a look at this

jay25072d ago

Yeah, I noticed that on the IGN E3 site thats streaming the confrance.

rob60215072d ago

They're probably PSN games.

they are putting all of their attention on the move and waiting for Gamescom or TGS like said earlier.

redbadger5072d ago

Wardevil is a cancelled project. That was stated a long time ago. Probably because the lack of funds or a disinterest with fans.

jay25072d ago

No it's not, it's gone multi plat, it was previed in EDGE last October

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz...

xtreampro5072d ago (Edited 5072d ago )

Oops I meant 13 not 12 (^_^)

@redbadger: Wardevil isn't cancelled as they just stared employing designers for the game so I know it's not cancelled.

@lodossrage: Data Fly was shown in trailer form for the first time last year and it was confirmed to be a PS3 exclusive.

Sony Patents To Prevent You From In-Game Harassment By Reading Your Emotions

A new patent recently published by Sony wants to gather biometric data of gamers to track whether one is being harassed using AI tools.

Profchaos11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

I hope this is one of those patents that never comes to fruition.

I already dislike the fact you can pay a significant amount for a online service buy associated games and content on said service and get banned from that service over potentially a misunderstanding the bans are already handed out for flimsy reasons

I'd rather see money invested in a ban that simply removes the offensive players ability to communicate with unknown players allow them to continue party chats with friends but not with Joe blow on cod.

exputers10d ago

Agreed. Blizzard recently banned a college Overwatch 2 player who's dependent for saying "shit." Pretty harsh.

Profchaos10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

How rediculas really. You can't say a word that's allowed in most PG films and prime time TV but the game is based around killing the enemy team using guns, explosives etc.

It's just backwards.

just_looken10d ago

What your talking about is called block list

In 2006 a spaceship dropped of the playstation 3/xbox 360 i say that that generation was the last great gen with game functions/tech that has yet to comeback

Anyhow the playstation 3 if you block listed a id they could not talk to you in chatroom with either text or voice. But that was pre mind fucked 2018 when people were more human than sheep.

But hey gta 6 is coming out billion dollar budget without a single player custom character creator and without singeplayer coop off/online something saints row 1-3 had on the xbox 360.

Take my social security and bank account numbers too! Here’s a picture of my wife and our address.

phoenixwing10d ago

Cmon where's the pictures of your children. Don't hold out on them.

H910d ago

At this rate I feel Sony will eventually sell a room to play games in it where they can monitor your every breath

jambola10d ago

I genuinely get a bit worried sometimes when a friend says something that could be offensive In a party
Because I have no trouble believing some bans would happen when in a private party for saying something wrong

SegaSaturn66910d ago

I want them to censor erotic content by measuring my groin temperature so i dont get too distracted while playing black ops 2.

Popsicle10d ago

Terrible idea. Not only do I not consent to providing my biometric data, the potential for mishandling biometric data is almost a certainty. Positive stress and negative stress can produce similar changes in biometrics. Interpreting the precise emotion a person is feeling is not only invasive but could be easily misconstrued. I hope this never comes to fruition.

Sony Could Increase Your Game's Difficulty If It Sees You Complain About It

Sony has recently published a new patent that wants to dynamically handle the games' difficulty and gameplay based on the player's emotions.

jznrpg11d ago

This is something I might use. Sometimes I play some good games but they don’t have difficulty option and are a little too easy.

Profchaos11d ago

Souls games will be like that players struggling make it harder

PassNextquestion11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

I think if used correctly it could work well

cool idea for horror games especially

Please do not put Destiny’s monetization into Sony’s first party games. The monetization is what’s driving players away from Destiny.

The new temp boss is the sony cfo bean counter so i can see this being a thing get every penny.

Cacabunga31d ago

PlayStation officially losing it.. fans will never support gaas games

just_looken31d ago

@car

The new boss did a interview in japan he wants to tap into the mobile market like nintendio so he give 0 fucks about gamers/fans

https://www.pushsquare.com/...

Redemption-6431d ago

@Cacabunga
You only speak for you and those who think like you, but most fans will support what they want. Playstation and PC fans are literally supporting Helldivers 2 and that is a gaas. Maybe you wouldn't, but many more would if they like it.

Huey_My_D_Long31d ago

@Redemption-64
Look, Im not making any judgement calls about this guy, but I will say that Helldivers 2 GaaS model is unique to Helldivers, and legit the only other game I can think of thats similiar was the Avengers game except HD2 pass is still better.
The fact that you can earn in game currency in a way that doesnt make you feel like you have to grind forever, as well you being able work on that pass that you bought...on your own time without a time limit...that right there is fucking huge to me, and I can't name any game other than avengers that avoided trapping players with FOMO logic...I think GaaS on HD2 shouldn't be compared to the rest of the industry...it should be copied.

Einhander197231d ago

Cacabunga

Helldivers 2...

Redemption-64

In Europe it's a 60 40 split favoring PC.
In the US its a 60 40 split favoring PS5.

So PlayStation owners supported the game just fine, it's not getting carried by PC or anything like that.

FinalFantasyFanatic31d ago

@just_looken,
I'm perfectly fine with the way Nintendo entered the mobile market, I never touched their mobile games, meanwhile, the console/handheld stayed the way it is. As for being a bean counter, he's probably going to reel in these massive budgets that Sony's studios have had lately, I haven't played Spiderman 2, but I cannot see how they almost tripled the budget for that game.

@Redemption-64,
That's an exception to the rule, I'm expecting a lot of these GAAS games from Sony to fail, to be fair, they only need a few to succeed, but I would have preferred that they put more of their resources into other types of games.

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 31d ago
DivineHand12531d ago

True their monetization is driving players away and at the same time, their decision to chop out content and convoluted systems is keeping new players away from the game.

Joe91331d ago

I don't think that will happen based on how things worked out at Naughty Dog now that we know what we do, seems they had the option to fully commit to live service games or stay making single player experences so they gave up on their live service game. We are not sure how things came about with Bend making a live service game but I hope that was not a forced situation. Sony doesnt seem like they are forcing studios to switch up but we will see, Sony's bread and butter is single player games it is how they dominated the console market.

Obscure_Observer31d ago

Yeah, I though Sony learned something from all their failures in the LS segment under Bungie´s disastrous leadership and supervision which led to games been cancelled, studios closed and all the people laid off.

Looks like Bungie still plays a major role in Sony´s LS initiative and Sony is not backtracking on their GaaS plans.

S2Killinit31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

Are we forgetting that Destiny is also a highly successful franchise? I feel like that definitely deserves mention here.

Besides, there is no reason why a person cant learn from past experiences.

Joe91330d ago

I agree, people act as if Destiny flopped when it came out lol it took 9 to 10 years for the numbers to fall yet people are still playing it add the success of Helldivers 2 no wonder Sony is going forward down this path.

S2Killinit30d ago

Personally, I see no problem with Sony also having service games as long as they make good ones, and more importantly they deliver the AAA story driven games that they are known for. So yeah, I agree 100% with you.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 30d ago
Christopher31d ago

I mean, this person made some pretty bad decisions at Bungie. I hope they've learned from them because I definitely don't see those type of ideas as good for PlaySation in general.

CrimsonWing6930d ago (Edited 30d ago )

Honestly, what’s to learn from? How to make people happily continuously dump money into a single game over its life-time? Buy season passes continuously for several years with a smile on our faces?

GaaS is a design decision that is everything wrong with this industry. The fact that Helldivers 2 did so well and people defend the monetization because it was $40 and is a fun game, scares the sh*t out of me to see that the door is open and all shift will probably be to replicate that in future games. We already know the ROI for traditional game dev cost isn’t doing it for them.

I thought with Jimbo leaving we’d see a change for the better… I’m not so sure now.

S2Killinit30d ago

Service games are being offered by everyone. Sony cannot afford to only create single player AAA games. No one can. They already said they will be doing both.

Abnor_Mal31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

Ps5 gamers in 2023 seemed to play more live service types of games, so regardless to how people feel about them, numbers don’t lie and Sony is going where the money is. I mean look at the excitement around Helldivers2, people are showing that they want live service games.

Christopher31d ago

They play long-time existing live service games like CoD, Fortnite, Apex Legends, Destiny 2, and the like. Mass majority of new live service games are considered failures and aren't moving gamers away from older games.

just_looken31d ago

Yep the huge issue with live service is they need paid players along with a reason to play them.

You forgot mobile market that also taps into that player base as well as the eve online style games there is only a certain amount of krakens/whales blind supporters compared to the amount of live service games we have its not sustainable math wise.

700 restaurants making food for every seat for 1000-3000 eaters just does not work out

Einhander197231d ago (Edited 31d ago )

Christopher

I am not a big live service fan and literally own zero of the games you listed, but that is not true, unless you call games that aren't the top games to be failures.

There are tons of live service games that are profitable.

Games don't have to be the biggest game ever they just need to make more than they cost.

I challenge you to show professionally prepared data that shows that more live service games fail than make enough to keep going.

Because all the data that I have seen shows that live service is less of a gamble than making a big AAA budget game which needs to survive off retail sales.

FinalFantasyFanatic31d ago

I sometimes wonder if we're at saturation point, where it's hard for a new game to join those ranks unless it's particularly exceptional, people only have so much time and money to devote to these types of games.

romulus2331d ago

Correction, they have no issue playing good live service games

shinoff218331d ago

Lol it's not even a quarter of the ps5s sold. Helldivers may have been a hit but let's not say most are enjoying it because truth is most(the real most ) don't care about it.

S2Killinit30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

I play what is fun. If a live service game is good I’ll play it as long as its not a money scheme which Helldivers is not.

And Im a single player gamer.

mastershredder31d ago

How do you kill a franchise that already been killed?
Destiny’s grind, cash-in-on-playbass-cha-Ching, and pop-culture-insertion mainstream-me-too bs totally killed any rep Bungie had. Sony/Bungie, if you are doing this to ward-off players, it’s already working.
