I'm looking forward so much to this game. I loved Portal 1, IMHO one of the best games in the last decade.

DSco45066d ago

Agreed, so much innvoation that it would be enough for 2 games ...

I wonder: How will the PS3 version be better than the Xbox one?

RedDragan5066d ago

I still haven't play No. 1.

I had it free through Steam. Would you recommend I stop playing whatever I am playing to check it out?

coolcut1355066d ago

i think the reasoning behind this is that valve can continuously update the game through steam works, thereby making it better whereas in xbox it is harder to update the game continuously. this is wht i believe anyways, correct me if im wrong

ElementX5066d ago

Maybe the Move, or using Steam, users can download content without all the MS bs with testing and such. Maybe it'll have user created levels.

mal_tez925066d ago

Play it. It's pretty good and it'll only take you 2 hours to beat.

lelo2play5066d ago

@RedDragan

It's only one of the best games ever made. Stop what you playing... and go play Portal.

Gabe seemed really convinced about what the PS3 was capable of. He is all for the open source tech out there. I think he will do things special for the PS3, at least enough to differentiate itself from what'll be on the 360.

ryuzu5066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

I imagine PS3 will be "best console version" because of additional content (seems to be the way it goes this gen), donloadable updates through Steam, possibility of mods (what makes Steam/Valve games on PC) and maybe better graphics/performance.

In fact it's that final point that will really determine if Valve are serious about the PS3 - if they invest the time to make a good engine then I think we'll see continuing support and probably ports of the back catalog.

Finally, I think one of the most interesting possibilities with this is the potential Move support - would really suit the mind-bending gameplay mechanics.

PS MOVE + PORTAL

You heard it here first.

Proxy5066d ago (Edited 5066d ago )

Valve games on XBox always get late updates because MS has to do QA testing first, and that takes awhile. Sony does the same thing I believe?

But I was thinking some time ago when Gabe was saying they needed more open platforms that he should prefer PS3, since it's more open.

And if Move really does work with Portal 2 I will be very impressed with Move. Players of the first Portal know that there are many time where your falling to certain death and must open a portal at just the right time in the right place. If Move can offer such precision, I'll be very happy.

Does this game have multiplayer? Portal-based multiplayer could be the greatest thing ever! I can't wait for this game, multiplayer or not. I need to start reading up on it more. Haven't even read the big article about it that was in Game Informer a couple of months ago. I need to check out all the details on this. I loved the original. This will be infinitely more awesome.

DanyBrown5066d ago

man the physics in that game look really cool.
can anyone confirm this was the pc version?

BlackKnight5066d ago

Based on the player aiming, it looks like a mouse so I would assume PC. You will notice times when the character turns, but then stops for a moment, and then starts turning again on long turns. That's them running out of mouse space and picking up the mouse and moving it over. It's actually easy to tell. I guess it's possibly it's the PS3 if it supports a mouse. But it's Valve, I would think they would show the PC version since its their main platform.

PLASTICA-MAN5065d ago

After they ended the demo the screen showed bluray disk menu and PS3 menu; see the ones in ustream and youtube, this video is from ign preview of the PS3 version and the PS3 version is the big highlight of the E3, so no doubt about that !

BlackKnight5065d ago (Edited 5065d ago )

Lol yea it says Bluray disc because it's a video of PC gameplay playing on a PS3 just like a Bluray movie does...

Don't you see the transitions in the video? It's an edited video with fade to whites and so on...It cuts to different levels within seconds, no loading. Just pointing out the facts, promise.

Valve man the best when it comes to new game experiences

Valve they only do everything!!! hehehehe

Sidewinder-5066d ago

I played a freeware game last year which i liked because how it reminded me of PORTAL. Now it seems PORTAL 2 has drawn influence from this game.
Check it out, it's called "TAG the power of paint", and you basically use the paint in the same way that you do in portal2. i.e. Speed paint, paint makes you jump.
You can definetly see the influence drawn from this game in PORTAL 2.

Try it! It's free and fun, plus the music is ace.

TehChef5066d ago

That's because Valve got the same guys who made TAG to also help production on Portal 2!

Pandamobile5065d ago

Yeah, Valve hired the TAG dev team.

Steam's highest-rated game is now less than a dollar in the Spring Sale

Jack writes: "Yet again browsing the latest offers in the Steam Spring Sale has led us to track down the very best. In terms of price to quality, we don’t think that it gets much better than this. Portal 2 is now less than a dollar, and if you haven’t got it already, now is the time to pick it up."

TheEroica40d ago

Portal deserves to be one of steams highest rated games... It's almost tetris levels of perfect game design.

TheEnigma31340d ago

It's a great game, but highly overrated. But for $1, it's an amazon deal.

Friendlygamer40d ago

Valve should bring their games to ps5

Kados40d ago (Edited 40d ago )

Gotta love Steam. Just got Portal 2 for .97 cents CAD. Should have been $1.29, selected the bundle with Portal 1 and 2, which gets a 25% discount, already have Portal 1, so it removes the cost of that, and still applies the full 25% bundle discount to Portal 2. 90% + 25% discount.

Friendlygamer39d ago

That's sweet, I've been thinking about building a modest pc to play some oldies

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name47d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno47d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood47d ago (Edited 47d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno47d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure47d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.

valve suck so much at making games now, opting just to smaug on top of an enormous pile of money,
that fans got so desperate that they have to make their own games.
this industry is fucking over.
