def not MS

SONY had huge announcements so i say that they won
Nintendo did an awesome job

you know now that i sit here typing this i can't help but feel like MS is trying to swap with Nintendo

targetting casual gamers, and usually its nintendo that have a bad show

Nike5070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

I think we can all agree that Sony and Nintendo both had arguably the best E3 conferences imaginable. Great looking games, features and hardware all around. Sure, it was a bit disappointing not seeing Resistance 3 or Uncharted 3 (hell, for that matter, I didn't hear anything about the multiplatform ventures of Bungie, Insomniac or Respawn), but the announcements that were made were great.

I repeat once again, Microsoft: TAKE NOTES. This has unabashedly been the worst Microsoft conference ever. EVER.

@Nitrowolf: Agreed. It feels like MS is going in the opposite direction while Nintendo gets back into form. I honestly don't know WHO Microsoft were trying to target. Gears 3, Halo Reach and MGS Rising looked great, but that was about 15% of their total conferences time, and was lost in all the Kinect psycho-babble.

ForROME5070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

Ummm no not ever, worst cfc ever belongs to this statement

launching at a price point of "599.99"

Thats the worse cfc I ever saw

SONY, IMO won this E3

SillySundae5070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

I mean c'mon.

They have a TIGER!

logikil5070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

Whats sad is that MS has traditionally had pretty damn good conferences. It seems like they have just had a crisis of identity. That Kinect component of the conference should have been what got separated out with Mondays conference being the one that concentrated on the Core and 3rd party relationships. That to me was the biggest oddity. MS always totes their 3rd party relationships, and that all went to Sony this year.

Either way, welcome back Nintendo. Thanks for making me a kid again :).

FlipMode5070d ago

Nintendo won.

Nintendo: A - Not a perfect score just because the Zelda presentation sucked, but the game still looked great, the pacing was fantastic and they really catered to the hardcore announcing game after game, Kirby Epic Yarn I liked the most, followed by Kid Icarus, Donkey Kong and Epic Mickey. Plus the DS looked great

Microsoft: D+ - Just too much of the conference had Kinect in it, Halo Reach looked fantastic, Gears for some reason didn't impress me much, I felt like I've seen it before.

Sony B: - Bad pacing and a lot of boring moments of Sony just droning on, and I don't care about your ad campaign or your partnership with Coke, but at the end they had a big surprise, Portal, looking forward to that, loved the first one, TM was great, the Killzone 3 footage had me like , LBP looked cool and Kevin Butler cracked me up.

darthv725070d ago

MS didnt do anything surprising except maybe the reveal of the slim 360. We knew the natal/kinect was going to be shown and it was with more than just the red ball game. Other than that it wasnt as big as some hyped it to be.

Sony had some big reveals with so much move/3d stuff but again it wasnt unexpected as we knew that was their focus leading up to e3. The big thing for me was twisted metal.

Nintendo had many surprises and lots of games. Ones we were expecting and ones we werent. The 3ds was a show stopper for them much more than the slim 360.

Nitrowolf25070d ago

ForROME
at least that conference they still had announcement of first parties game
this was wtf is this crap nothing interesting at all, Sony 05 conference was wtf that expensive as he11 i'm not buying that

N4g_null5070d ago

Was really expecting more games with move in them and not a lot of trash talking. MS lost a lot of respect for having trash talkers in their camp yet SONY has done the same thing with their actor and to make matters worst he was not funny and it was all like a bad inside joke. Then all the marketing talk, it was like they had nothing to show.

So you come out with twisted metal, the sorcery game which was a lot of waggle, and portal that's it! really and some GT5 video! wow!

I wonder what they will show next E3, this is going to be a long 5 years for the PS3 and it seems the xbox has already ran out of games.

Will-UK5070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

Ms conference was boring, nintendo had great annoucements but sony did the best with twisted metal and GT date.

lelo2play5070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

Only possible winner ... EA with their show.

MS and Sony had disappointing shows. Nintendo did not see and don't really care. Ubisoft show was OK (was expecting to see beyond good and evil 2).

Surprises so far... Crytek's game for the X360.

... but since this is N4G... the majority will say Sony won.

LycanSoldier5070d ago

It's nice to see someone else that thinks this site is very Sony bias.

andthensum5070d ago

XBoxkings.com is---> that way.

Anyway, before the Xbox fanboy rudely interrupted our celebration, yeah, Sony and Nintendo did great jobs. The Xbox fanboys on this site are absolutely delusional. I've never seen nothing like this. Every other site is saying Nintendo and Sony destroyed the conference this year.

Oh and Portal 2 on Ps3!!! Woot!

Redempteur5070d ago

pff you're missing information

"i didn't see nintendo presentation but that couldn't have been good "
is basicaly what you're saying ...

And that make your comment pointless

logikil5070d ago

It goes to Nintendo in my eyes, though Sony had a strong second. Ms while interesting, just didn't get it done....and they could have left the Cirque at home.

FlipMode5070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

wrong spot

TheDeadMetalhead5070d ago

Sony and Nintendo both won. Seriously, both conferences were just too awesome to pick one winner.

ABizzel15070d ago

Sony: A-. Sony had everything you could want, albeit some games that were RUMORED to show up didn't. But Sony's conference was still full of announcements and every demo was played out perfectly. Talking was constantly interrupted with videos to keep viewers interested, and all the speakers got straight to the point. They showed plenty of games, and showed how most of the good Wii 3rd party games are going to hit PS3. Sony had complete developer support from EA, and Ubi, which shows that things are going to be bright for Sony over the next couple of years. Not a perfect show, but very good. PS Gabe moment was priceless :)

Nintendo: B+. Nintendo showed a lot, but that's because they haven't shown anything over the last couple of years worth getting excited over. I'm glad that putting out new versions of almost all their franchises, however, I don't like the fact that most of them are going to be side scrollers, nothing wrong with side scrollers, but come on. 3DS is basically an upgrade to the DS, and not exactly what I was expecting, but I'm excited none the less. It's about time Nintendo.

Microsoft: C+. MS had good games there, it's just that the huge focus on Kinect without the emphasis on hardcore games, caused a backlash among most gamers. Halo Reach, Gears 3, and Metal Gear Rising looked great, but that was it. Better luck next year guys.

Redempteur5070d ago

no real winner for me ..but TWO losers ...ubisoft and microsoft

NO beyond good and evil 2 ?
kinectimals ? ( seriously ??)

WTF ..

Ubisoft and microsoft tied for the worst show ..

siyrobbo5070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

i'd say nintendo>sony> > > > > > > > > > > MS

Nintendo showed off new hardware and quite a few new games, not just casual rubbish either for a change!

Sony had a good line-up of software, move showing wasnt too bad, a bit too many third party games shown for my liking.

MS showed halo reach and gears, announced 1 new game and then showed off kinetic. Despite my thinking the move was a more of a wiimote rip-off than kinetic, it was way way way too similar to the wii. Liked the slim 360 announcement. overall for all the song and dance made pre-show it was a total bomb. Kinetic didn't really do anything that was shown in the video last year. They showed no arcade games, nothing about indie games, nothing about LIVE improvement, nothing about windows phone gaming apart from a little tidbit, i hope to god for MS's sake they are holding stuff back for gamescom and TGS, but im not going to hold my breath, not anymore

also im in the opinion that RARE should officially be renamed SHOVEL-RARE

Honestly, i made get flamed for this..

But i really think Nintendo came through this year.Just amazing game after amazing game! Compared to last years joke of an E3, they have my vote for front runner.

Sony did really good too.Gabe newell on stage praising PS3 was more of a megaton than anything i've ever seen MS pull off.Twisted metal sealed the deal too.

Microsoft..just..lol (Shakes head in disbelief)

Rainstorm815070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

I agree but.

Nintendo = A- They win because of the 3DS im not a handheld user and i want one & look at the games coming for it! i mean wow!

Sony = B+ They showed the most games relevant on any home console.
and Gabe Newell on stage was a megaton!

MS = D- Showed Kinect.

LordMarius5070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

Nintendo => Sony >>>>>>> MS

Nike5070d ago

I was shaking my head so much from shame after MS's conference I thought I'd snap my neck.

Sarcasm5070d ago

It's a good toss up between Sony and Nintendo. I however, being the Sony supporter I am, is most impressed by Nintendo. They have turned things around this year. *gasp* it's like they're actually thinking about the Gamers!

Microsoft on the other hand, is full of crap.

Nintendo - A
Sony - A-
Microsoft - Kinectdeeznuts

zoks3105070d ago

I see where you are coming from, but to me Nintendo is hit or miss and people grow out of them. I did not care for their games because they are games i had fun with 10-15 years ago (Golden eye, DK, and Kerby), Zelda to me was good but nothing to really brag about.

I'm an HD, 5.1 surround sound guy/hardcore gamer, i want what Sony is offering. HD hardcore games, even their motion games looks hardcore, and that's why they won for me. Everything they showed was meant for the HD gamer of this gen, not some game i played when i was 9 years old.

But for people that stuck with Nintendo all these years, i can see why you would view their show as the best, if i was 9 years old and i saw Nintendo's E3 show my jaws would be on the floor.

PandemicPrawn05070d ago

Sony in my opinion. As they gave gamers what they wanted.

Nintendo did very well also. The 3DSI is going to dominate the handheld market without question.

Microsoft? Ummm yeah. Not so much.

Fiona5070d ago

For me
1. Nintendo
2. Sony
3. MS

And Nintendo and Sony are kind of tied, but i gave nintendo the first place because of better pace.

phantomexe5070d ago

I agree i love sony. Sony had a good E3 and sony came out fireing but all and all i think nintendo did. Nintendo learned from last year and droped in alot of very cool stuff. My picks nintendo, sony, and omg wtf MS.

Otheros005070d ago (Edited 5070d ago )

Because of TWISTED METAL, gabe newell, and a release date for GT5.

This is definitely happening, I just hope they have 2 versions one with a much bigger screen.

GamerRN1d 19h ago

I'll be happy with this, and a PC console hybrid that rivals anything we have power wise

thesoftware7301d 17h ago

A much bigger screen than what?

Number1TailzFan1d 16h ago

The problem with bigger devices is playing them on your side in bed, Vita and before that was fine. Since the Switch you gotta have a gooseneck holder & controllers detached so you can lie down holding them, or your arm will quickly get tired.

1Victor1d ago

@thesofware: “A much bigger screen than what?”
A gaming laptop 🤷🏿🤣

Kosic1d ago

crazyCoconuts23h ago

A Xbox version of Logitech G-Cloud?
I mean, why bother? Not like the G cloud is flying off shelves and what would Xbox add to make it better?
They're surely not going to create bespoke architecture here and there are already a few Windows handhelds out there. I have little confidence in their ability to put together an attractive UI in the way Steam did. So I doubt anything will come from this.

KicksnSnares2d ago

Day One buy for me if they'll make a dedicated handheld device.

darthv721d 20h ago

i have that logitech g-cloud. Its a sweet little piece of kit. I like that it can also install games from the play store unlike the other android based handheld.

mudakoshaka1d 19h ago

It sure is! Don't understand why you get the down-votes. Whoever does not like the G Cloud must have been dropped down a well, head first, when they were of a younger age.

PassNextquestion1d 20h ago

I wonder if Microsoft will perform better in Japan if they do actually make a handheld since everyone says handheld and mobile are king over there.

TiredGamer1d 20h ago

This looks like the future of the game industry... all three platforms with a handheld option.

I wonder if the Playstation Portal is a technology test-bed/prototype for a future Playstation handheld?

rlow11d 18h ago (Edited 1d 18h ago )

It’s a possibility but I can’t help but think would that be the best way to go about it? Though it would give you data on how much it is used and game type. It’s still not a true portable device and so people approach it differently. I think that data on phones, tablets, and of course the competition would give a better indication.

But I really think if Sony is considering a new PSP that could play ps5 games, now would be the time to dive in. Honestly, if they do this, it would be huge.

Traecy1d 16h ago (Edited 1d 16h ago )

Doubt if Sony PS wants to support a new handheld with first party games. Something they lacked with the Vita. What they should do is have a handheld that is like the PS Portal which can play all games but play those games on the go as well as at home. Something like that is a better investment.

TiredGamer1d 13h ago

Agreed that you will probably never see a separate line of games specifically for the handheld (a la PSP or PSVita). The modern economics and expectations of game development make that cost prohibitive. What makes more sense is if the full-fat game on PS5 or PS6 has a special "handheld" profile that is automatically optimized for the lower spec handheld. There would be some significant compromises compared to the bigger console variant, but it would be the same game overall and would only require a single purchase.... somewhat what the Switch does with a lower resolution when playing handheld versus docked.

Microsoft’s Surface and Xbox hardware revenues take a big hit in Q3

Microsoft just posted the third quarter of its 2024 fiscal financial results. The software maker made $61.9 billion in revenue and a net income of $21.9 billion during Q3. Revenue is up 17 percent, and net income has increased by 20 percent.

Xbox content + services up 62% while hardware down 31%... seems about right with the way they tout you don't need the hardware to play. People can play on their phones or smart tv or other means. I don't hardly play on my consoles directly since getting devices like the logitech g-cloud and ps portal. Which is to also say I have been playing more digital than physical because of these devices.

solideagle6d ago

you should apply in MS PR team buddy, I think you will do a great job in my humble opinion :)

Sonic18816d ago

I thought darthv72 and Obscure_Observer already work for Microsoft 🤔

dveio6d ago

MS: "Xbox services and content without AB up 1%, with AB up 62%. Hardware down 31%. In total a loss of 350 mill."

darthv72: "Seems about right."

MS: "Excuse m ..."

darthv72: "I don't hardly play on my consoles directly."

MS:

Lightning776d ago

What he said was facts. How he plays games is no concern of you. Don't get too mad about it.

Cacabunga6d ago

I can tell people like you are an absolute minority..

If service is up means their fans and fanboys accepted this model and subscribed to it. The near future you will see a big decline because the service is saturated.

darthv725d ago

to you it may seem like the minority... but your bubble is shrinking because more and more are following suit. convenience is a hell of a drug and its also why physical sales only amount to 30% of overall game sales. times are changing, you either get with them or you get left behind.

neutralgamer19925d ago

Darth

30% physical sales: yet Phil and xbox division are in a rush go give up on that 30%. they don't have any right to give up any piece of the pie since the control such a little of the pie to begin with

also, the market is clearly speaking that the model Xbox is pushing isn't working right now the keyword being right now. you are right about freedom to play anywhere so i hope they put their games on steam

shinoff21836d ago

But that's been ms for years. When things aren't going their way they try to change the way things are said. For instance console sales are down, they stop telling how many sold instead telling us how many hours spent in halo or headshots. So it makes sense console sales down just say people are playing on more devices then previous. What they won't say is how many xbox players jumped ship to ps5.

Cacabunga6d ago

Hardware sales are so bad that Sony and Nintendo are blowing the sales off the water with their hardware.

If Xbox are losers, others aren’t..
Xbox already tried everything with Xbox live then subscriptions went down so much that they had to find something else. Their fans subscribed then reached saturation rather quickly.

Hardware and exclusive games is where it’s at! Keep gamers excited, announce decent software and people will support you

itsmebryan6d ago

@shin
Well keep it simple Sony 's operating income is down 26% and Microsoft's is up 32%. No MS spin there, just facts. 😉
Cheers

S2Killinit5d ago

MS is after diminishing consoles as a medium. They want to destroy this market because they couldnt win. MS’s vision is to dissolve console gaming.

romulus236d ago

Odd that a company that touts you dont need the hardware to play is already touting another console in the works.

darthv726d ago

They are not reliant on the HW but still want to maintain a presence (no matter how small) is a good thing. It shows commitment to the craft. It reminds me of SNK and how they made games for their own hardware (Neo Geo) while also making them for others because they knew there was a market to do so. They knew they would sell more to others but also sell to their own niche fan base.

TheEroica5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

Perfectly reasonable post down voted by insecure corporation friendly folk.... But not gamers. Real gamer want accessibility and ease of acquisition for all.... Company shills are the only ones still telling us that hardware locking people from games is good for us.

Chevalier5d ago

@Darth

You should stop parroting metrics like an idiot without context.

"Xbox content and services revenue grew 62% in Q3 from a year earlier, “driven by 61 points of net impact” from the purchase of the third-party video game giant, Microsoft said."

61 of the 62% was from their merger so net increase is ONLY 1%

Too expensive hardware when others offer the same or more for less? Good work, Green Team.

SimpleDad6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

"Despite some early successes for Xbox games on rival platforms, Xbox hardware is down by a massive 31 percent this quarter."
"Without Activision Blizzard, Microsoft’s overall gaming revenue would have actually declined this quarter."
"Xbox content and services would have only been up a single percent without Activision Blizzard..."
"It looks like next quarter is going to be a similar story for gaming at Microsoft, too."

That is crazy... so A/B/K is carrying the whole Xbox gaming.
Oh and Microsoft will be fine. Windows, Office and Cloud are growing with each pc purchase.

purple1016d ago

Activision: "we gonna need a bigger rucksack/backpack please"

Microsoft: "why's that"

Activision: "to carry yo' weak ass'

Profchaos6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Top brass have also wanted to start seeing returns on the 100 billion they have put into various Xbox related moves so seeing more multiplatform games is highly likely especially from abk

It's basically saying that PlayStation is the reason Xbox is afloat right now thinks to Ps5 versions of COD

Kornholic6d ago

So basically PS and PC gamers' money is keeping Xbox on life support.

MrDead6d ago

The only growth MS will get out of the console industry is if it supports it's rivals platforms. Xbox is a pointless machine now. I can see them on a big push for live next, and they won't give up on trying to buy Steam.
