Nintendo E3 Press Conference: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly - Meodia.com

We here at Meodia.com are breaking down Nintendo’s, Sony’s, and Microsoft’s E3 press conferences in a segment of articles called “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly”. In this article the focus is obviously on Microsoft’s press conference. So let us get right into it shall we?

gfunkera105084d ago

Great conference really. Though the casual games are wearing thin. But great presentations and the 3DS.....wow.

FarEastOrient5084d ago

Dang Meodia works fast

I surprised how well that went when in comparison to previous years.

But the crowd got worked up when 3DS and games coming to it were listed.

MGS
Ridge Racer
Assasins Creed: Longevity
Kingdom Hearts
Kid Icarus
Saints Row

Good stuff

Legosz5084d ago

PSP2 has nothing on 3DS.

PSwheeze5084d ago

@Legosz

Wow...since you've seen the PSP2 right? You must work for Sony, may I have your autograph?!

Mista T5084d ago

it started off ugly but it got better, it's tied with EA as best conference so far

jmare5084d ago

Nintendo's games might not be your thing, but they did not tie with EA. Nintendo is the one to beat right now because they finally, finally brought what people have been clamoring for for the last 3 years. I don't think there is a single classic Nintendo franchise that they didn't touch on.

Again, while those games might not be everyone's cup of tea, and it is kind of sad that Nintendo adamantly refuses to create new IPs, they showed more games that people will want then anybody else so far. So Nintendo is definitely in the lead right now.

Cevapi885084d ago

saddened by no starfox...either i missed it or it wasnt there...that was the only thing that i would knock Nintendo down for

despair5084d ago

@jmare

its not just the refusal to produce new IP's its also the fact that they continue with the tried and tested in the current ones, like in the article one guy says that the green forest and cartoon style has never changed from nintendo, and while its not bad by any means it shows that they will not attempt anything outside the box.

N4g_null5084d ago

@Cevapi88

Wave race
fzero
and star fox will be on the 3ds in 3d.

This isn't offical yet but they are coming.

All of these 2d games rocked.

Kirby cloth effects where crazy man I love that game already yet hate the cutness LOL Yet love the game and the graphics, I swear my head is going to exploded!

Zelda actually plays better than wii resote, it's too bad you guys didn't get to see it or play it. Some one has some damn powerful bluetooth laptops working! Sony would be smart to make every one turn off their bluetooth.

Seriously that was the only problem and finally a zelda I want to play.

So far this is how to do a CONSOLE e3, the E3 in the past seemed like PC e3s.

The best part of the conference was the new Donkey Kong Country game had all 3 for my SNES and loved them so much some of the best platformers ever made. Epic Mickey looked like a standard platformer to be honest but the 3DS titles looked good.

jack_burt0n5084d ago (Edited 5084d ago )

totally agree

motion plus was the biggest fail i have ever seen tho.

smash-brother-105084d ago

It was a great conference, the only downside was the zelda demo, but even so, nobody really needs to be confinced about that just yet because we no by the time it is out it will be amazing

and considering the press are now having a go of it, we will get to hear soon just how good it is

shadow27975084d ago

I think the Wii Party game and Mario Sports Mix were the downsides. The Zelda demo wasn't perfect (I kept thinking how awesome it would be with Move), but it was far from bad. It's still a new Zelda.

BubblesDAVERAGE5084d ago

that right there makes you a fanboy...and when it comes to handleds...it is still a matter of taste

blu_yu_away5084d ago

They finally did an E3 right. They had some casual stuff in there but kept it at a minimum and didn't dwell on it too long. No demonstrations of shovelware or Cammy make this easily their best E3 in recent memory.

Oner5084d ago (Edited 5084d ago )

Ninty managed to save it. They started with Zelda and that was good, but the inaccuracy that is inherent with the Wii's hardware really shook them pretty bad...if they didn't have the absolutely stellar lineup of games (FINALLY!) throughout the rest of the conference it would have been rough, but they finished STRONG by killing it with all the games! Nintendo may have bobbled it for a minute but it turned out to be GREAT overall.

N4g_null5084d ago

That was interference, the same controls work in resort perfectly. These controls where actually an upgrade. You really have to try it your self.

Also I think their was an IR pointing at the wii mote during the demo as they pointed out at the crowd. Many cameras now use IR and led lights for flashes and even room light.

I think they will get this right next time, it's too easy to sabotage.

Oner5084d ago

Sorry but the Wii's controls are inaccurate for true 1:1 motion. Yes it is improved with Wii Motion Plus but that is not to say it's "exact". But whatever, the point is they showed absolutely great titles that I (& we all) can't wait to play! Hopefully my Wii won't get too much dust until they release after I get through SMG2.

fatstarr5084d ago

Nothing was wrong with the confrence.
Reggie seemed natrual and skilled at talking to crouds.
Miyamoto had some technical difficulties with the demo. thats about it
some casual stats like 16% compared to other years.
Good hype
Im ready for a 3ds.

The only ugly was the stupid interference with peoples unallowed cell phones, everythin else was beautifull! XD

FarEastOrient5084d ago

He pulled that out of Apple's playbook when the iPhone 4G was loading sites slower than the 3G.

gfunkera105084d ago

Haha........I was wondering if anyone else heard that and made the correlation with Apples conference last week.

Downtown boogey5084d ago

Shows how short-sighted people are. Only the ending matters.

Smokeyy905084d ago

Great conference! Looking like Nintendo might "Win" E3! Damn its been awhile since anyone could say that.

cobraagent5084d ago (Edited 5084d ago )

Then yes, Nintendo has won e3 this far. But we still have Sony

Bumpmapping5084d ago

Best E3 from Nintendo this gen!

dktxx25084d ago

Would love to see some new franchises. But they're going in the right direction.

Activision’s new Elsewhere Entertainment studio is working on a new IP

Headquartered in Poland, Elsewhere Entertainment — an all-new internal studio at Activision — is working on a new “narrative-based and genre-defining AAA franchise.” Elsewhere includes developers credited on The Last of Us, Uncharted, Destiny, Cyberpunk, and more. Activision’s new studio announcement comes just a week after its parent company, Microsoft, closed three Bethesda studios. It also follows job postings about a new Activision IP.

The game industry confuses, closing down proven studios only open a new studio?

ThinkThink14h ago

It would certainly be strange if this news came from Bethesda, but Activision is its on monster.

Eonjay13h ago

To be fair, many Activision employees lost their jobs too during the the last few months. So it really is quite odd to see them opening another studio. All I can say is they better not do another mass layoff anytime soon or its just gonna piss everyone off. Studio description reminds me of The Initiative. The only saving grace is that they aren't claiming to be making a AAAA game lol. I guess we will check back in in 5 years to see how everything is going.

Man what ip are they cooking? /s.

Gotta break some eggs to make an omelet.

romulus239h ago

Tango Gameworks was the omelet, so that statement fails on the face of it.

InUrFoxHole7h ago

Really? What special games did they make 🤔

romulus236h ago

@InUrFoxHole

Well, xbox was pretty adamant that Hi-Fi Rush was special, journalist and gamers seemed to agree and from my own personal experience I would say it was a great game. They also made Ghostwire: Tokyo, and the Evil Within series.

thesoftware7306h ago(Edited 6h ago)

Yeah, then the head/lead of the company left...

No hope for a good Evil within game, ghost wire was not really successful, and HI-FI alone was not enough to keep an entire studio open.

Eonjay1h ago

@thesoftware730

I think the fact that this 'wasn't enough' is a problem wouldn't you concede?

romulus234h ago

Hi-Fi Rush was a great game regardless of who left and according to Aaron Greenberg,

"Hi-Fi RUSH was a break out hit for us and our players in all key measurements and expectations. We couldn’t be happier with what the team at Tango Gameworks delivered with this surprise release."

So of course they rewarded the team for their accomplishment by firing them. They have studios that have contributed much less that they haven't closed. It is going to be very difficult for any game to be successful when it goes straight to gamepass day one.

Einhander197213h ago(Edited 13h ago)

I think this is just a publicity stunt and that this studio never actually produces a game. Someone at Microsoft was like were getting cooked in the media after they closed these studios and they came up with a plan to create some dummy studio someplace outside of the reach of the English speaking presses reach to distract people.

"Oh hey we're not closing studios we're actually creating studios"

And of course what are they working on... the type of game that gets the most popular public perception a narrative driven story based game... ya know not the thing Activision and Microsoft are known for.

They hired a bunch of people and opened a new studio for a publicity stunt?

Yea, they hired people... Who? "Oh, you know, people..." people who worked on TLOU Uncharted and Destiny of course...

It's the same crap they did with The Initiative where they were under fire for buying a bunch of studios and not forming anything except even more sketchy this time. Of course the The Initiative was formed with people mostly poached from PlayStation specifically Naughty Dog, then less than 12 months later almost everyone was back at Sony and The Initiative was rumored to have lost 80% of it's staff and the game they were working on was announced to actually be getting developed by Crystal Dynamics.

Noskypeno10h ago

The way we need to look at these buzzwords is the same that we see when a sports team brings in the best athletes in their position in hopes to bring them to look like a superteam, only to barely win half of their games or lose in the first round of the playoffs. Sometimes superteams work, but when it doesn't it just makes you question how they can't take advantage of their abilities.

Name someone that isn't trying to look us these days maybe cdpr.

Take two, ubi and yes even PlayStation are pushing us to own nothing and be happy with our live service ad injected games on a sub so they can raise prices at will and take access away when they see fit.

If it keeps up I'll be a full time retro gamer and this industry will be crashing hard

As rediculas as it sounds we need government reforms to defend consumer rights
