When you think of thePirates of the Caribbean franchise, you likely think of the ultra-popular movie series, the famed Disney theme park ride, or Johnny Depp chewing up more scenery than a hippo. However, the series hasn't translated yet into a great game, something developer Propaganda Games hopes to change with Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned.
Jerry from BagoGames says, "Disney has been striking out when it comes to video game development. Armada Of the Damned is yet another sad tale of an amazing game we will never play."
Developing a game is an intricate process. Thousands of lines of code have to be written with thousands of graphical assets. The publishers have to spend thousands of dollars on marketing. Speaking on the behalf of the developers, it hurts us beyond measure when we don't get to witness the fruit of our labour.
Here are The Gaming Report's top 5 games that did not see the light of day.
The Turok franchise has a storied history. Long before Halo, it was one of the first console-centric FPS games to really make a name for itself. Its core conceit of hunting down dinosaurs is novel even today, and it was right there alongside Goldeneye making the case for FPS with a gamepad. Given all that, it is somewhat poetic that the Turok remake from 2008 owes so much to that Xbox launch title of note.
I loved all three of the Pirates of Caribbean movies. Hopefully this game delivers unlike so many movie-inspired games before it.
But it lacks the charm and seems stuck halfway between a realistic style and the cartoon style. I think they'd make strides if they took inspiration from the movies and upped the saturation of certain colours a bit, preferable blue/greens.
I'm hoping they implement some of the features from puzzle pirates, not necessarily making it an MMO, but online ship naval battles, trading and the like.
Meh, like the films
Looks surprisingly better than I expected. I very much doubt I'll get it though.
