Chris Forbis (MensaDad) of Platform Nation takes a look at gaming with children in this first offering of his new monthly series "Preschool Gametime".
"Parents, aunts, uncles, big brothers and sisters, and anyone else who finds themselves gaming around children – keep reading."
According to a now-deleted post by Warner Brother Games, it seems like a new LEGO Harry Potter game is set to be announced at gamescom 2023.
Major Nelson: For the month of December, Xbox Live Gold members will receive four new free games - two on Xbox One and two on Xbox 360
Are you serious? This month is just fine... Jurassic World Evolution is awesome, and Toy Story 3 is actually a fun and decent Licensed game... Castlevania is also a great game... What's it gonna take to be considered "Ok" or decent? Maybe Microsoft should just pay your mortgage and you'll finally stop bitching.. seriously what is so bad with this month? I completely disagree with you, But I also love castlevania, toy story, and Jurassic park in general, maybe you do not, and that's fine I suppose. Doesn't make this month shit tho.
@Kavorklestein Come out from underneath Phil Spencer's desk so we can have a real conversation.
Every month it's more proof that they don't care anymore about offering a good deal with games with gold and that they're putting all of their eggs into the game pass basket.
what is poor about 4 free games?
I see what you mean though, GWG is poor we have only had 124 free games (xbox one only) /s
https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...
like PS+ games as well you mean?
"Once your PlayStation Plus membership ends, content you previously downloaded at no cost as part of the membership (such as Plus Monthly Games) will no longer be available. However, free avatars and content you purchased at a discounted PlayStation Plus price is yours to keep."
@cradatrucl yes they are free, you pay xbox live to play online, surely as a gamer you know this already.
"Free Games purchased in Games with Gold will still be yours if you cancel gold membership, you can play them offline and with a free membership. Once you purchase the games in Xbox Live you can re-download them whenever you want (if they are still available on XBL and have not been removed"
wooooah no no mirror of fate is by far the worst castlevania game ever made, comon have some sense pls
I disagree. I mean it's no CV: SotN but it isnt CV: Judgement either. It's right there in the middle.
Of course Darth, of course. Why do I get the feeling that if it were Sony offering this rubbish we'd never hear the end of it with you.
If it were Sony he would still be unfamiliar with those games
Actually... i did comment on the plus offerings and like that titanfall 2 is free for members.
Why are you worried what I think anyways? I dont crap on sony like you do on ms. I play both systems... how bout you rice?
Exactly, now you're paying GwG JUST to play online because the games have been disgraceful for the last 4 to 5 months, might as well merge the services.
Jurassic world evolution is great. If you like sim games even a little bit give a shot.
I was legitimately excited to see that in there. I've been trying to find it on sale, but not much luck.
Was just thinking that! Was going to get it a weekend or two ago but held off for any BF deals. So glad it’s added this month.
On one hand game pass is doing great things, on the other GWG is incredibly bad things more often than not. What are the criteria for the games they are ending up offering? It’s truly looking like “what games had horrible sales on Xbox one? Ok let’s offer it for free”. It’s crazy that the 360 games are usually the only ones worth looking into.
I completely disagree. But I also love castlevania toy story and Jurassic park in general, maybe you do not and that's fine.
I see will have a drip of releases, the backwards compatible team is working on bringing over backwards compatibility to the new xbox, Castlevania mirrors of fate is a good 2.5 Castlevania, I might try Toy Story 3 for some mindless fun
Just a bonus for gamepass ultimate (gamepass+gold) owners. Is toy story 3 anything like 2 on n64? That one was awesome when I was a kid
Xbox fans will defend any pos no wonder they dont have games phils right there fan base is way used to and fine with mediocrity
Not all of them. I'm not calling it garbage either but some here are blatantly saying it's a dead month
Nice. Ive been thinking about buying Jurrasic world evolution. Now i dont have to 👌👌
Not played any of these apart from castlevania on 360 which is a spectacular fantastic game, best CV game ever.
well I wanted to buy a Jurassic world although such games are better on Pc...but I will give it a shot on xbox since its free.
Jurassic world evolution is an awesome game, it’s not as good as operation genesis imo but seriously it’s really fun if your a fan of the Theme park/tycoon games. Toy story 3 is alright if your a fan of toy story but it’s not amazing and I really don’t care about the other two games.
DSOGaming writes: "Last week, we assumed that a Batman collection would be available for free on EGS. And it appears we were right. Epic Games has just announced that six Batman games are now available for free on the Epic Games Store."
You can keep them forever if you redeem them for your account before September 26.
My problem with EPG is forcing ppl to buy from their store via exclusives locking.
The why is simple. EPG has yet to establish basic feature as a forum to allow players to ask questions or talk game issues.
The always-online also cause issues for the simple fact that it would mean that you lose your purchase if Epic decide to close the store.
Now I have good faith that Epic will address topics and will improve the quality of the store (for example they have now the same refund policy as Steam).
Wouldn't it be nicer if you were able to just...I don't know...buy your games on a disc, bring them home and than install and play them so no company would force you to use a usless app such as a launcher? I know, crazy idea😄
PC players wanted a digital only future. Here it is in all it's glory.
Next stop, streaming services because digital only isn't screwing people over enough.😁
You can still get the free games even if you want to publicly hate EGS and their exclusives policy.
"The always-online also cause issues for the simple fact that it would mean that you lose your purchase if Epic decide to close the store."
You can access the app and play your games offline. I was playing BL3 yesterday when my internet was down for maintenance.
As far as losing your games if the store closes, that's true for all digital platforms.
@PorkChop
It's good news to know that you can now access your games offline on the EGS apps for it wasn't always the case.
As for losing the game if Steam would close well do you know that can back up the majority of Steam games on a physical media? as long as you have your account (offline) you will be able to play them.
But I agree that more and more games demand online authentification before you can play the game.
Great for those that don't already have them, but I have had them all on Steam for a while now so there is no reason for me to sign up to their store and get them.
I got them, because I don't play many games on PC, and don't buy many games on Steam. My entire Steam library is from codes devs or pubs have given to me over the years. Think the only PC game I've brought digitally is World of Warcraft, and the last SimCity. Plus, the Lego games are fun, and they'll run on my laptop fine when I'm out and about. Don't always have my portable with me, but I go everywhere with my laptop. Doesn't hurt to add them now, even if it might be years to before I play it. Have lots of games through PSN that I just add because they're free, because, hey, why not?
difference here is these games are 100% free, don't need to be paying for an online service to get em.
I'm sure sooner or later there is going to be something free you don't have, doesn't hurt to try. Since you aren't paying for them. Up next, Metro.
Great move by Sweeney. Btw Batman games use unreal engine. So if you bought the game you already gave epic your money
' So if you bought the game you already gave epic your money ' Thanks for the heads up, I didn't know. I feel so much better now, knowing epic games makes money from their engine. Awesome!
The only thing more desperate than EGS giving away free games is the person who can't fathom having to install multiple launchers for their PC, and is trying to justify any way they can why Steam must be the ONLY digital storefront worth their time.
I feel the more desperate people are those who are defending Epic in spite of everything that gone on in the past few months. I mean, at least people who defend Steam are objectively defending the better platform.
Making that argument shows your ignorance. Anti-Epic people don't want Steam to be the only digital storefront, they want 1) a slew of storefronts with Steam acting as a meeting point for friends, and 2) for all of this paid exclusivity bullsh!t, which Epic feels is the only possible way they are able to compete in the market, to end.
@TheOptimist - so people are bad if they support exclusivity practices through Epic, but if something was exclusive to Steam I bet it would be perfectly ok. Makes total sense..
@RizBiz
So, you don't want Steam to be the digital storefront, but rather for Steam to act as a "meeting point for friends"? I honestly do not know what that means? Is this the "EGS is less feature-rich than Steam" argument?
Secondly, how exactly does Epic Exclusivity impact *your* experience playing a game? It doesn't. Unless, of course, you have a bias towards Steam because it's been around longer.
I am honestly blown away by the negativity towards EGS. Yeah, they are trying to make their storefront more competitive by making exclusive certain games they feel can boost their market share. But that does so much more *good* for the developer, especially indie devs who have been shafted time and time again by Steam's "cut" of the pie.
I get (at least somewhat) why people might not like the reality towards CONSOLE exclusivity, because you get what you get, and there's nothing you can do about it. But this whole debacle plays into this weird elitist grandstanding towards an established platform like Steam against a newcomer who wants to be competitive.
This is not G2A, this is Epic. They've made Unreal engine and provided so much literature and tutorials themselves to encourage aspiring developers to take active roles in the continuing development of the engine and how to best use for it for their own game projects.
The only time I agree with people and their "disdain" towards EGS is when a Kickstarter project/any crowdfunded game suddenly goes epic exclusive when they've told people that it'd be available on Steam. That can be frustrating, and I understand the developer's motivations in doing it and the player's motivation for showing their disapproval.
But we need to encourage digital storefronts to play ball and contend with Steam. We need to *encourage* this behavior, not handwave it away.
@Neonridr
But Steam didn't do that, did it?
Steam tried paid mods, the community refused, they stopped it. That didn't stop Bethesda from making a mod store.
Bring up that argument when the situation comes at hand, not before it. Steam never held hostages.
Yep. Might as well take advantage of it while Epic is so desperate. Not like they're worth a billion dollars, and are obviously on their last ditch effort to make the EGS work. If it fails, how will they ever survive with just the measly Fortnite and Unreal Engine revenue?
I have a massive PS3, PS4, PSP, and PSV collection from just adding everything that they offer since it came out.
Funny how short this article is yet they don't feel the need to mention the other free game next week besides Metro...
Epic Game store just shows how pointless now PS+ and Xbox GWG are. Unlike console service, they are not renting you the game for the duration of subs and you are paying 0$
When will console adjust to this new reality?
When they have to compete to try and get customers to use their service perhaps? They run on closed systems, so if you want digital on those systems, that's really your only choice for downloading.
And will this be done by Epic forever? I think its still the initial wave to acquire customers. Btw PS+ and XBL is not only about free games. Its about paying for mp infrastructure. "Free" games, better prices etc... are only on top of that as a bonus. It was like this from the beginning. All this is about is paying for mp infrastructure. Totally different service.
I think I've read somewhere before that Epic publicly said that they are not going to do this forever. obviously if they are are already on par or surpassed Steam or until they have all the main features Steam has and there are more games in their library, they would be more confident that players are gonna stay and then BAAM free gift stops.
but enjoy it while it last. I know I do and I don't even play Fortnite LOL
" Ist not the same.
Look here:
https://www.quora.com/Why-i...
Come on man this article is just propaganda to justify your monthly fees on console
There's not a single point on the article that is actually valid
- All Pc service like Steam, EPG, Battlenet, etc does have user control, management, and disciplinary measures. Heck some Service like Battlenet and EPG manage your account between Xbox, PSN, and Switch.
Server instead of peer to peer? Name one game that uses private server on console and Peer to Peer on PC. And just also pointing that it's not MS or PSN that often provide the server for 3rd party game but the publisher himself. (EA, Battlenet, Epic).
Steam, Battlenet, etc. do offer voice chat in and out of game heck even Xbox offer voice chat with Xbox pc.
And worst Nintendo asks you to have a smartphone app for it.
Do I really need to comment about the infrastructure for patches, payments, and store-front?
Now the last argument could be true that on PC it's the developers and publishers who have to pays for theses features and passes the cost to you in the price of the game but the price of the same game on PC is cheaper versus the console version.
In the end, I'm not against Xbox live nor PS+ just stating that with EPG offering between 4 to 8 games per months (including AAA games) Console services should adjust to this new reality.
@FyBy
Epic Games has been given games for
Months now and just like Xbox GwG , there’s no promise about an obligation to do so.
Can you play online on Epic Game Store?
Last I check the answer is yes
So what’s different between playing online a game from EGS and PSN?
@Petebloodyonion
Fact is Sony and Ms have large cloud infrastructure. Believe me, I'm in ps+ from beginning. I know how it started. It was about mp infrastructure. Free games , etc are only for justify the price for masses.
What is new reality? New store, which tries to acquire new consumers. There is nothing to adjust to.
Yep have a issue with my opinion? Not had a issue with it since I started using it other than not being able to add multiple games to a cart and check out in one. Plus the free games every 2 weeks is great.
I sense that the next major Batman game will be Epic Exclusive for a year. I can already smell it.
hate epic store as much as you want but free game is a free game I'll get that thank you!
Free games? And Batman games to boot? Good on you Epic for offering an incentive. Signing up now.
I can just imagine most people's hatred for their store slowly fading away. This is a crap ton of content being given for free here, I'd love to hear somebody complain about this.
Of course it's fading away. Epic never cared about those haters. They are just making what's necessary to bring in customers. Hate all you want on what they're doing but they are on the news everyday while the discord store is closing
