Are recent Xbox 360 exclusives failing to capture gamers?

Like it or not but looking at the sales figures for more recent Xbox 360 exclusives and even multiple format games it appears that gamers are not 'biting' and parting with cash for these games.

Has anyone seen any Alan Wake ads? I've yet to see one and its one of there best games this year. I've noticed all the Multiplatform ads have been for the PS3 lately Even RDR and Its better on the 360. Whats wrong with MS they always spend a lot on Ads

I already am pig sick of M$ advertising. Over the past 6 months they've advertised for FF13,, MW2(which i still see on TV!), split/second,Blur. The only games ive seen Sony advertise Red Dead and UFC 10.

Guys, I don't mean to be a troll or anything, but last time i checked on VGCHARTZ, Alan Wake has yet to reach the 400,000 mark. Splinter Cell too. I think it is just over the 1 million mark. that's just sad you know. No pun intended.

The only one that I can think of that I'm remotely interested in is Mass Effect. Why? Cause it actually has a good story with great gameplay. The rest of the exclusives are average at best. I know the 360 fans dont like the truth and will be butthurt by what I typed. Halo? WHACK. I just dont know what the fuss is about that shit. You have a no personality having hero with a weak story @ best. Gears? Had potential, but again the story is poo and there were SO MANY BUGS in multiplayer. All 360 owners have are "teh superiorzzz multiplatzzzz... YEEEEEAAAAAAAA!!!" Compare that to MGS4, Infamous, GOW1-3, Killzone 2, Uncharted 1-2, Heavy Rain, all games that are story driven (yes Killzone 2 story is good. Read the back story), have outstanding gameplay, and actually look next gen. The variety on PS3 is just pooing on 360. They can try to acquire all the crap they want. When theres no variety theres no way your getting my dollar. Simple as that.

because they're not strictly shooting games. period. i don't think alan wake has any gun play in it, me2 was an rpg and splinter cell was more tactical. they want their halo and gears and can't be bothered with anything else. that's the curse of having popular casual games (which they are) as your flagship titles. a large % of 360 owners probably only buy those 2 games as well as maybe madden & cod and that's it.

these games haven't sold poorly, but like with the wii, with the supposedly larger install base they should be doing much better.

btw surprising to see that the 360 RDR only outsold the ps3 version by 400k or so and prince of persia is selling more on ps3. i thought the 360 had a much larger install base and ps3 owners don't buy games?

alan wake had gunplay in it, the main focus was light but there were guns which are used often

Mass effect 2 was a stripped back RPG, it was more a 3rd person shooter with RPG elements. very refined and definately one of the best games on 360

Splinter cell definately leaned more towards being a shooter when compared to past splinter cell games

Prince of persia selling more on PS3 isnt much to brag about, as the game seems to be selling quite poorly allround

Not sure if that was meant as a joke, but I think you're absolutely right, it WILL be a tough sell for Natal on the 360. Argue it any way you like, I own a 360, and the exclusives that are most popular are shooters or games with heavy shooting elements(ie Gears of War, Halo, even Mass Effect). Natal will need to be compatible with shooters or it's going to sell about as well as a Tony Hawk skateboard accessory, because about the only use for it at that point will be Tony Hawk skateboarding games. =/

While gunplay was not the only element, Alan Wake and Mass Effect 2 were more shooters than anything else in the end.

I think the thing is that the primary market for the 360 revolves around the big shooter titles: Halo, Gears of War, Call of Duty, BioShock, and similar titles.

I struggle to find people on my friends list who arn't playing an iteration of Call of Duty.

These games are ruining the industry but they are good fun online so who can argue with that.

When the NPD sales figures came out for Bad Company 2 and Final Fantasy XIII, a friend of mine commented how Bad Company 2 sold twice as much on the 360 while FFXIII sold twice as much on the PS3. He then told me, "Isn't that enough evidence? Shooters do better on the 360 while RPGs do better on the PS3."

Of course, he was only referring to those two genres. For every other genre, the two are more or less in a stalemate (wish I could reference some figures but that would take lots of searching).

While I do try new games on the 360 (by playing at a friend's place), often we stick to Halo 3 and Gears of War 2 Horde mode in the end. It's not like the other games aren't fun (or better) but hell, those games are just so much fun in co-op when we just want to wig out like a bunch of brahs.

Lately 360 exclusives are just not cutting it for me.I don't care about exclusive multi-platform DLC or timed exclusives.I want good games that only exist on 360 like Alan Wake or Halo Reach.Microsoft has to reclaim its identity because every 15 games are multi(PS3,PC,Arcade,Wii) and few are true quality exclusives.

Truth is... the Xbox Exclusives are a bit too bland. There's little on the side of creativity or originality. Its mostly shooters in some form of another.

Compare to the vivid choices on PS3 platforms in term of exclusives, it is understandable why it doesn't capture gamers. The console is practically a 'shooter' genre console.

The article has little sense.
First the datas which uses are mostly from VG-Charts, well known forn not beeing much reliable.

Second it compares LTD sales of games that are different in genres and had been on the market for different time frames.

Third the comparison is made without knowing develping and promotion costs of every title.

Fourth exclusives sales have been varied on every system. Just think at MAG or go back to Motorstorm 2. Or think at how well sells every Halo game or how Fable sold. An they're both coming this year.

So, after all, is an article that leads nowhere.

Well, to ask that question the 360 would actually need to have some exclusives to begin with. Here we are, pushing the half way mark of the year, and the 360 has had one exclusive game, Alan Wake. The title should be renamed to "Are 360 games failing to capture gamers?" PC games are not 360 exclusives, this skewed logic needs to die.

Many people casually purchase 360's. The 360 has alot more casual users than many people like to admit. Many 360 owners only buy COD, Halo, or Madden and other sports titles. Idk why people like to brag about the 360 gaming crowd to be so hardcore. Not entirely true at all...

I think $ony should stop making games to directly compete with M$ exclusives, they usually turn out bland IMO. But they should continue to make new original IPs cause those are their best games i.e. inFamous, LBP, God of War, Joe Danger, and Motorstorm, oh and a little series called Uncharted.

what games are you talking about? as long as i can remember, its been msoft who's games have ben trying to compete against sony"s games. thats' why they always mention sony when they out do them in something. sony(developers) compete with themselves, and they are about to compete with nintendo with the move. they aren't worried a bout microsoft. the only thing i can honestly say that they are trying to compete with microsoft with is their online offerings and incentives, like trophies, video services, etc. but not games.

Look at when these games have been released. Mass Effect 2 was January (right after Christmas) and therefore cannot hope to attain substantial sales at release, but is a game that definitely has legs. Splinter Cell in April, right after the likes of Bioshock 2, Final Fantasy XIII etc. which whether they were good or not, are eye-catching games to the consumer. Alan Wake in May, but they probably weren't banking on Red Dead Redemption being the runaway success it has become. I can't see Crackdown 2 hitting the same highs either. However, come Halo Reach in September and Gears of War 3 next year, Microsoft will be rolling in it - those brand names alone equate to 5+ million sales.

I bought Alan Wake, beat it, traded it back in within 2 weeks. It really wasn't that great of a game, I thought it would be more scary. I'm the biggest chicken ever, couldn't even get through Condemned, and Alan Wake didn't scare me more than a couple times. There were 0 jumpy parts, because they were nice enough to let you know whenever someone was coming at you from behind. You know, just to make sure you aren't startled. During a horror game. ....Sigh. The story was pretty swell, even if Alan was kind of completely stupid.. but I really have no need to play it again, ever. I don't care about the thermoses or the manuscript pages..

I did buy SCC, but never did bother with Mass Effect 2.. I didn't like Mass Effect or Dragon Age, so I don't really see the point in giving another Bioware RPG a chance. I'll just stick to Bethesda.. But, I still don't think 1.7 is something that you say only about. That's a bunch. Also, unfair to compare any 360 or PS3 exclusive to a Mario game. Mario games will always sell, especially when they're super amazing like galaxy 2.

But, M$ still has Halo Reach to fall back on this year, which will be huge, plus Fable. & Gears 3 next year, also going to be huge. So, I'm not very worried about them.

i have 59 xbox 360 games and 4 on my ps3 , so figure out wich console i love the most to play with , so far the ps3 is a good console for exclusives the rest i play it on my 360. i got almost every "good" exclusive released on the microsoft console and im very pleased so far.

mass effect awesome, alan wake pretty good, splinter cell conviction the best SC so far. lost odyssey best rpg this gen.

We all know Bungie and Epic makes a profit, but what about smaller dev team's such as the people who made Alan Wake (can't remember the name atm) or any other smaller dev team. Splinter cell conviction and Mass effect 2 will hit the PS3 rather sooner than later. The publishers of these franchises are definately seeing all the potential buyers from the Ps3 ever growing install base.

Hell, I would buy up ME without a second thought for the Ps3 as soon it hit store shelves.. SCC not so much. I still own the definative stealth shooter MGS4.

Mass effect is one of highest rated RPG game & it is sold only 2 million approx. on 360 worldwide(even if It's TPS +RPG) regardless on 360's userbase ( Halo/ Gears/ COD are only the exceptions)

But Final fantasy (A multiplat + 360 exclusive bundle/ads) have been sold 3 million plus on PS3 (Lowest install base of all 3 console) & 1 million approx. on 360 (even if it's not a shooter)

The only game I liked on my xbox this year and probably one of the most captivating games ive played in a long time is Mass Effect 2.
