Red Dead Redemption’s Ending Was A Joke

*small spoilers*

I had been playing Red Dead Redemption for about three weeks now in between some other games. I would do a mission or two then put the game away for a couple to start back up later. Well, earlier tonight, I could tell the game was getting closer to the end, so I decided to stick it out and finish it in one last play session.

I liked the ending of Red Dead Redemption. It was original.

Elimin85097d ago

he did what he had to do then went on to live his life or so he thought! Shit happens so story took a slight twist.. I loved it.. Though I was bummed for losing my character only to play with another......

Zydake5097d ago

Me too I liked the ending thought it was original as well. Got a bit mad tho at the ending for some reason I though I was going to play as John again cause they zoomed into the grave as if Jack and john's wife left the scene thought he was gonna rise from his grave

DJexs5097d ago

same I dug it but I do not think it was real original this ending was perfect for this genre and plot.

seinfan5097d ago

The asshat who wrote that article doesn't know anything about a good storyline. He's probably one of the few people that would still go to a theater to see another Scary Movie/Date Movie/Epic Movie sequel and thinks they're comedy gold.

I expected to see reactions like the author's. The game has a more mature, realistic ending than we are accustomed to seeing in a video game. Life generally doesn't have a neat and tidy Hollywood ending. I thought it was wonderful that it allowed you to spend at least a brief amount of time raising your son and taking care of your family. Would it have really been better to just see some shallow and saccharine cut scene after his last big bounty hunt that showed him walking off into the sunset with his wife and child for a few seconds to live happily ever after? We knew nothing of either character until he reunited with them and R* allowed us to spend time with them and get a sense of who they were. I thank Rockstar for providing us with these experiences instead of dumbing down their game to the lowest common denominator (i.e., the author of this article and mouthbreathing knuckledraggers of his ilk).

Rockstar matured a bit as a company with Red Dead Redemption. Not only did they give it a more mature conclusion, they also dialed back many of the extreme and over the top satirical exaggerations we typically see in GTA games. Of course it's still going to contain plenty of wild, over the top experiences and satirical humor, but RDR was easily R*'s finest and most composed title ever released. I hope Agent and other future titles continue to build upon this. I also hope future titles supposedly designed with a mature audience in mind truly become more mature in the way they present their stories to us. RDR's ending was a small step forward in that direction.

aaron58295097d ago

Agreed..

My opinion : The ending was perfect !

It's the most unexpected ending of all time... !

Great job R* !!

Dont listen to this ass...

Darkstorn5097d ago

I liked the 'first' ending too (Dutch's death), but I was shocked to have more story missions afterwards (and tedious farm maintenance ones, too...).

AKS5096d ago

I think you're missing the point of those missions entirely. What did you know about John's wife and child prior to those "tedious" missions? Those missions are there to let you interact and get a better sense of who your wife and child were. The simple and relatively easy missions that have you killing crows and rounding up cattle aren't supposed to blow you away. They are there to have you spend some time taking care of your family and get to know who they are. Returning to his family and escaping his violent past lifestyle was the dream John was striving for the entire game. I realize that many gamers seem to be conditioned that a video game ending must involve a planet exploding or some sort of outrageously over the top conclusion, but try to keep an open mind for a more mature and intelligent ending. R*'s choices for the conclusion(s) of RDR actually fit the game perfectly.

I wonder if he even did the real last mission which is a stranger mission.

I already had a feeling that was going to happen. they foreshadow it when marston talks to his son in one part.

facelike5097d ago

I was thinking the same thing. Dude hasn't found the final mission yet. There's 3 endings, and you know the real one when you hit it. It was quite worth it.

poopface15097d ago

jack says its about a man who gets revenge for his murdered father.

Ace Killa 085097d ago

nice one poopface, when that scene occurred i thought of typical western and really the same when i went through the stranger mission to lead me to the 3rd ending a western ending.

USEYOURFIST5097d ago

your meant to dislike the ending

Got2bemad2behere5097d ago

The guy who wrote this hasn't played the real ending. I don't know should I be mad at him for it or cut him some slack.

Elimin85097d ago

Because he should have finished before writing this article... He does sound like he did though...

kneon5097d ago

The real ending is no better, it was too predictable. Most of the story was fairly unoriginal.

Darkstorn5097d ago

It may be unoriginal in the Western genre, but considering how unpopular western films are these days, I honestly don't think most people saw the ending the way you did.

Ace Killa 085097d ago

i agree with darkstorm, it was the typical western but when was the last western game good like RDR, call of juarez never tried it and i dont know any more games before this except for Red dead revolver. theres no typical western games, it is unoriginal but its uncommon also.

himdeel5097d ago (Edited 5097d ago )

...but after telling me the ending it sounded typical for a western. Especially if you're older than 30 and have seen or read westerns made before 1980 you wouldnt be surpised by ending. RDR ends one of the handful of ways that most westerns end.

AKS5097d ago

It fits quite well with what R* was going for with RDR. And I'm over 30 and have watched quite a few Westerns myself.

MysticStrummer5097d ago

Yeah... you're just dead wrong. I thought the ending was outstanding.

Rucury5097d ago

He's "dead wrong" because YOU "thought" the ending was outstanding?

So because you believe in something, it's automatically true and whoever disagrees is wrong?

Huh.

I loved the ending.

I just want 4k/1440p and 60fps support. And with little glitches too ofc.

Snookies126d ago (Edited 6d ago )

This is about the PC version of RDR 1. The PC version of RDR 2 doesn't have a frame rate cap. Though I do agree, it is mind boggling that Rockstar still hasn't released a patch for consoles.

XiNatsuDragnel7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

It'll be great if true

LucasRuinedChildhood6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Hopefully 60fps on consoles for RDR2 is next then.

LucasRuinedChildhood6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Honestly, a PS5 Pro isn't even needed for 60fps in this case. But if they wanted to use it show a game running maxed out at a high resolution at 60fps, I wouldn't complain. Just give us 60fps. lol

I think the Series X might have an issue running the One X version at a locked 60fps as that version was a full native 4K but they could just lower the resolution a bit.

purple1016d ago (Edited 6d ago )

I wish to play both stellar blade, and rdr2, on the pro, maxed out like an expensive pc,

would be good, especially for the price, even if thats £499/ £549

last I checked, a rtx 4070super was £580 for just the card!

DaReapa6d ago

There aren't many games I'd double dip for, but having originally gotten this for PS3, I would happily get this if true.

You left out The Darkness games bring those back

fan_of_gaming39d ago

The head of Nightdive Studios has posted that The Darkness is on their list of games they want to do, so hopefully something comes from that

Yi-Long39d ago

Little Big Planet 1 and 2 deserve a mention, IMO.

Good call on Motorstorm, a game released 2 gens ago but still looks and feels so good. Motorstorm 2 and Motorstorm RC were gems as well. They followed up the Motorstorm games with the brilliant Driveclub, which still manages to put modern racing games to shame. Imagine closing down a studio as talented as that ... (!) Incredible.

A little 'arcade-gem' back then was The Last Guy, a top down 'follow the leader' snake-like game where you had to find and lead survivors to safety during an alien invasion, on terrible looking 'Google-earth' maps. Graphics were poor, even back then, but would love that same gameplay with modern maps and graphics.

Street Fighter 4, once it finally had a full roster, was quite good, but it was always an ugly game, sadly. Imagine bringing that back while using the current SF6 engine.

fan_of_gaming39d ago

Good suggestions, I'd be in for
LittleBigPlanet
LittleBigPlanet 2
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
Motorstorm: RC

purple10139d ago

God damn I love motorstorm so much

At the time I had a low-mid range sony 40” tv, The latency to the controller was waaaay too high, would to play a modern version

In saying that later I got a 3d lg tv and playing the 3d motorstorm in my bedroom with the environment crumbling around the track, was something special, specially compared to what others were playing at the time, will always remember that

Skuletor39d ago

Some good choices here and Resistance: Fall of Man is my most wanted PS3 remaster/remake. Not sure about their claim it was Sony's answer to Gears of War though.

CrimsonWing6939d ago

I’d rather have sequels than remakes. Look at Dead Space 1 Remake. Would’ve been cooler if we got a new entry and it failed with sales sealing the fate of a sequel rather than just replay the same game and it fail in sales and we never get a new entry.

Remakes are great for things like PS2 and earlier games to really get a crazy new graphical coat, but I think we should ease up on all these remakes and actually do sequels.

fan_of_gaming39d ago

Yeah for sure, sequels would be ideal. But in the current market environment where many big publishers are risk-averse, I'd rather get a remaster or remake that a developer can do on a budget that will be approved, rather than nothing for an IP.

Inverno39d ago

I rather they remaster and port over to PC and current gen all the games permanently stuck on PS360. Those games don't need remakes, they need to be given a chance to live again outside of their confined consoles and then give a few proper sequels. Like Sleeping Dogs, Motor Storm, LA Noir, should get another entry.

fan_of_gaming39d ago

Yeah I'd be fine with remasters of PS3 games too, they don't have to be remakes.
