From from generic. It's actually quite nice. The glow looks really nice on a dark background and gives the impression that you're isolated and the only thing lit or visible is the glow. Which is the theme of Dead Space anywho, Isaac is alone.

Not sure if I can expect a serious answer here, but should I play Dead Space? I did play the demo, but it just threw a bunch of enemies at me then ended in 5 minutes. It just put me off the game. Is this a common reaction to the demo? Is there anyone here who hated the demo but loved the full game?

That section in the demo isn't the same as in the game. basically the demo was to show off the dismemberment by throwing lots of enemies at u.

it is a good game though and should be able to pick it up pretty cheap now or just rent it one weekend.

I've spoken to a few people who were turned of by the demo but loved the full game so I guess the demo just sucked.

The full game however is one of the best this generation. Definitely give it a try. Atmosphere is top notch.

Also I think I like the first games cover art better. But this isn't to bad either.

i first played the demo and had the same feeling as u and was just bored of constant attack then end. i then later borrowed the game from a friend and it is actually pretty good, sure there are certain parts that make u break your controller but all in all its a pretty solid game

If you like Event Horizon or Aliens or any number of sci-fi horror movies, it's a must play game.

The atmosphere is absolutely amazing and the gameplay is fantastic and it's little touches (you'll see when you play) that take the game from average to great.

Playing in the dark with surround sound or headphones is like nothing else.

Ether, I definitely felt the same way after playing the demo, in fact I'm pretty sure I asked for the exact same advice as you did right here a while ago.

The demo doesn't do the actual game justice in any way. The demo isn't even a part of the game (the big room the demo is set in is featured in the game but the things that happen in that room are totally different). In the full game you'll never enter a pretty brightly lit room and see a group of aliens just hanging out over the other side of it. You'll spend ten minutes at a time walking down a dark corridor lit only by alarm lights that flash on and off while listening to a strange growling noise and wishing you could turn around and run away.

The actual game is all about the atmosphere, if you've played Bioshock, think of the parts where you're creeping around in the dark and you quickly see the shadow of a splicer dash against the wall. Dead space is all about those moments, , only a thousand billion times scarier. You will go long periods of time without being attacked by anything but these will be the most terrifying parts of the game because the creepy noises and atmosphere will have you picturing all the things that are about to jump out on you.

One thing to keep in mind though, you MUST play this game on your own in the dark, on a decent TV with the sound turned up or (if you have the guts) headphones clamped over your ears. It's a true horror title rather than some cheesy actioner and as such it needs to be played in the correct way. I don't scare easily and I hated the demo and I can assure you, after playing through the whole game in the dark with headphones on, it's the scariest game I've ever played and one of the best.

funny thing is that i played DS when it came out,got my plat...but some time ago i changed my psn id so i want to get platinum trophy again.and i can't get through the game cos i'm scared:D (i play alone,during night with headphones) i know what will happen at some points,but mostly i just forgot...so i feel really nervous:P

I played Dead Space on the PC and found it nothing more than a Doom 3 clone except you shoot limbs off. It wasn't scary but cheesy as monsters popped outta NO where (Ala Doom 3).

The controls were clunky, bad camera angles, and every mission was a gopher mission. The best thing about the characters in the story was when their annoying butts got killed.

Will I buy Dead Space 2....Unfortunately yes (dam cliffhanger) because I want to see Isaac Clarke make it back home after being out in space with MORONS. Very nice how the health bar is displayed and no on screen icons while playing.

I felt like the controls were perfect and the camera was awesome. To each his own though.

On topic...the box art looks cool, but it doesn't have that gritty feel that its predecessor has. The dismembered limb embodies the game and everything it's about.
