First 3D PS3 Game Goes Live

TSA writes: So, that’s the PS3 playing the first 3D game: Super Stardust HD. Yep, seriously – if you’ve got a 3D TV set, delete the game and redownload it, and it’ll be in full 3D.

It begins.

I'll take 3D instead of Move or Natal any day of the week.

Why?

Because I can actually play hardcore gamers...

bjornbear5077d ago

female hardcore gamers or male hardcore gamers? just asking xD

consider Move might have hardcore games too

rockleex5076d ago

I bet Killzone 3 will also have Move support, if you read their interviews carefully.

The Last Guardian seems like a PERFECT FIT for Move.

Imagine playing ICO and SOTC HD collection with 3D + PS Move!!!

Demon's Souls 2

To cast a spell, you move the Move in a certain motion.
Etc.

Anarki5077d ago

Most "hardcore" games have been said to support move and 3d... making your point invalid

Umbrella Corp5077d ago

Hahaha check mate indeed
bubbles up

UnwanteDreamz5077d ago

Something being "said" to do something is not confirmation of it being able to actually do it. Your comment is based on speculation making your point invalid.

Not that I disagree but I thought while you were being pompus I could too.

Darkstorn5077d ago

I'm wondering if this 3D works on cheaper 120hz TVs, or do we have to get the fully 3D HDTVs to utilize it.

hoops5077d ago

Nope. You need a new TV entirely

sikbeta5077d ago

It's Already Begun...

3D Gaming FTW!!!

I don't know I haven't played it, but it looks really good and the reviews back it up.

good start, too bad I will not be following the 3D movement just yet, it still isn't rock solid! =/ but i have faith in it =D

thanks guys, bubs. I might check it out for the hell of it =3 miss me some shooters =D

DethWish5077d ago

Its fkin awesome :)
Especially co-op

cliffbo5077d ago

@DethWish

have you actually played SuperStarDust HD in 3D ? if so can you tell me what resolution it is running in please or anyone else who has played the 3D version

raztad5077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

@cliffbo

Super StarDust 3D is 720p. Havent played it but it is well documented. I think Eurogamer has a tech interview about it.

Ju5077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

It's 720p in 60Hz in 3D (or 1080p @ 60Hz without 3D).

I seriously got a disagree for that, really ?

http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

radphil5077d ago

@Ju

There's people that just love to troll the thumbs down thing. Look at how everyone has 1 disagree for no reason.

As far as the 3D move, I'm all set and ready for it, the TV and 3D glasses I have from the theaters. :p

YourFlyness5077d ago

Far from gimmick, It is a great game without 3D

nycredude5077d ago

This game kicks major ass! In 3d will be unreal. So much going on at once on screen!

kharma455077d ago

Agreed with all of the above.

SSHD is a brilliant game!

Just thinking, it's the first to go 3D and was also the first to have trophies if I remember correctly?

TheHater5077d ago

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was the first disk base PS3 game to be patch to support trophies. However, SSHD was the first PS3 game to be patch for trophy support with the release for firmware 2.4

kharma455077d ago

Cheers dude, was pretty sure that SSHD was the first to get trophies.

TheHater5077d ago

to me is the best PSN game available right now. I fricken love that game

Hideo_Kojima5077d ago

fat princess is also great.
But in 3D this game will be sweet because the planet will seem to be floating between you and the TV :D

Biggest5077d ago

I actually prefer Everyday Shooter. I'm not a big rock/folk/whateverthehellthatm usicis fan and that game not only made me pay attention. . . I actually enjoy the shit. Add the small (read: one person) dev team and the difficulty factor and it makes a game that I love. But most of the PSN games like that are more than worth the money. Flow, SSDHD, Blast Factor, Flower, and even Super Rub-A-Dub have a place on my hard drive.

Remmulak5077d ago

Super Stardust is a fantastic game. Custom soundtracks are a bonus as well. I would love to try it in 3D, I am sure it would be amazing.

-Alpha5077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

SSD is an absolutely great game. It has a very simple but addictive gameplay. It's pretty much the answer to Geometry Wars, but with notable difference. I also find it very underrated. It's very intense, and a great distraction that has a lot of depth. Along with Wipeout HD it's a gem on the PSN store.

My only complaint is that split-screen and extra modes were priced as DLC and were a little overpriced but now they bundled all of them together into a nice, affordable, and value package. Buy it.

I feel like playing it now. It would look awesome in 3D the more I think about it. Oh yeah, my high-score is really high lol. I believe it's around 50,000,000 but I could be off entirely. What about everybody else?

Shadow Flare5077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

I've got 198,884,150, and i've never been able to beat it since. I must have been high on red bull when i got that score

http://s986.photobucket.com...

-Alpha5077d ago

Holy Hell O_O

Also, is it just me, but why is it that when I die, my next deaths imminently follow within a few seconds or minutes after the first one?

I can spend an hour without dying, then I'll die once, and then never recover from it lol. It happens every time. I think I lose my zone and just get nervous. It's an awesome game though.

Shadow Flare5077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

yeah i get exactly the same thing. In fact whenever i play it now, if i die, i just quit the game. Because i have the same problem, once i die, i'll die again and again. To get the high scores though, you need to have a really good run on your first life. Once you die, you lose your multiplier and its almost not worth carrying on. But its definately one of the best games on psn. I'd encourage everyone to get it

Ju5077d ago

I think my highest was somewhere between 34-45M. That's an awesome score you got up there.

madmonkey05077d ago

it is one of the best games on psn, and really addicvtive.

Marceles5077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

SSHD was one of the best games ever on PSN when PS3 first came out. It was the very first game with trophies, the game that shut game journalists up about PSN having no good games, and threw Geometry Wars off its high horse. I gotta check my high score again, I 100% the game but forgot how far I got.

BeaArthur5077d ago

Maybe I'll check it out the next time I need a TV.

feelintheflow5076d ago

congrats to the 1% of people in America that have a 3d tv, as for me, I just purchased my 55 inch led 6 months ago, don't see me dropping another 2-3 grand for a few more years.

bangoskank5077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

How many of us can really afford a 3D television? I just bought an HDTV two years ago. Not ready to shell out that kind of money again any time soon.

BeaArthur5077d ago

I can afford a 3D TV but I'm not going to pay that much for a TV especially when I don't need a new TV. I can think of a lot of other things that I can use that money for.

M-Easy5077d ago

Sooo tempting to use credit to buy a 3DTV but it really isn't worth the price yet. Don't be 1st, be smart!

bangoskank5077d ago

it is tempting but we've all felt that wrath of credit card companies after convincing ourselves that we can pay these things off with no problem if charged on our credit cards. You just end up paying more due to interest and other bullsh!t fees. Nothing but a headache. I'll wait until the tech is perfected and evolves into something better. Maybe I'll have a better paying job by then.

nycredude5077d ago

I can afford one but I will jsut get a smaller one for now until the larger ones drop in price.

bangoskank5077d ago

It seems like a waste to buy a small 3d television if you can afford a large one. I don't think you'd feel the same sense of immersion but more power to you, dude. It's your money to spend.

kharma455077d ago

Immersion is the big thing for 3D, that's why there aren't any less than 40" yet in the UK.

Bigger the better for it, at 8 feet it's recommended you have at least a 46" if not a 50" panel to make the most of 3D irrc.

Death24945077d ago

You can buy a 73inch Mistubishi 3dready 1080p tv for about $1,299.99. I'm actually waiting on the reviews to come in from either Sony's 52HX900 or LG's 55LX9500. Both of these set are Full LED back lit. Sony's set can run up to 240hz, and LG's set can run up to 480hz. LG's TV seems like it'll be cheaper, but Sony's picture quality is unmatched. Just save up for 3d in my opinion. I won't be adopting a 3d set until probably next year. By then we will be seeing TVs that don't require the glasses.

BYE5077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

It's not like they're ridiculously expensive. If somebody needs a TV right now he might aswell go with 3D instead of a regular one.

Malebaria5077d ago (Edited 5077d ago )

Indeed,I´d rather wait for a 3d TV without the need for glasses. Reckon 2-3 more years?
Excellent game nonetheless!

M-Easy5077d ago

More like 5, but then you won't be able to afford the 1st Gen stuff so you will have 3D in 8 years.

callahan095077d ago

Everything I've read about glasses-less 3D sets says that there are "sweet spots" in viewing angles where you can see it in 3D, and if you're not sitting at one of those sweet spot angles, the picture won't look right. Personally speaking, I don't like the sound of that. It limits the number of people who can be watching the screen at once, and it limits where I can sit and view it, which is kind of an issue for me because I'm a bit antsy and move around a lot when I'm watching TV/movies, or playing games, shifting around and stuff. Until they can make a glasses-less set with 3D that looks as good as the shutter-glasses effect looks, without having limitations on viewing angles, I will ignore that technology as "not ready for primetime." And it will likely be a lot longer before sets like that are ready than it will take for shutter-glasses 3D tv's to become de facto technology for most sets the way 1080p is now.

nycredude5077d ago

M-easy is right unless you want to pay 5,000 for a glasses less 3d tv in 5 to 7 years you will not experience it until close to a decade. If you are at all interested in 3d why deprive yourself for that long. Besides unless you are sitting directly in from of the tv glasses less 3d won't work. In 8 to 10 years you might not even care about gaming anymore!

If you live to 100, a decade is 1/10 of your life!

Ju5077d ago

There are some things going on with glass less 3D.

How I understand it, they use some sort of "multi-degree" projection with each pixel. Imagine, they split the field of view into pieces. As such you have multiple "sweet spots" for each angle.

Now, consider this an "angular" resolution. The more you can split that, the more sweet spots you get.

What they try to do is, to increase this "resolution" to actually make it seamlessly. And voila, you get glass less 3D.

That's the theory. Basically, they will have to create some sort of a 3D pixel (emitter) on the screen. I am not sure how they break this into multiple angles. With some prisms or something. I think they can make 12 angles or so, you can imagine, pumping this up to say 180 ( say, you can watch from the side, and one step every angle) is tricky.

Someday they might figure out how to create such a "perspective" splitter. It must be tiny, though. One for each pixel.

I plan to snag Stardust VR soon. It is on PSN sale for cheap.

FTLmaster1108d ago

Do it! It’s a seriously addictive experience. Housemarque is the master of modern arcade classic gameplay. Curious to see how Returnal turns out tbh.

Knushwood Butt1108d ago

Thanks. Downloaded it and will be playing it shortly.

Pre-ordered Returnal too.

P_Bomb1108d ago

Loved Alienation. Good co-op!

Knushwood Butt1108d ago (Edited 1108d ago )

Yep, had a lot of fun playing it with my kids. Although they always fight over the drops.

Dead Nation is a classic, Definately one of their best games.

Housemarque licenses Unreal Engine 4 for a new and unannounced title

Finland’s longest standing game development studio, Housemarque, today announced that it is licensing Unreal Engine 4 and moving away from its own in-house technology for future projects, including a soon-to-be-announced title.

TheOttomatic912335d ago

Damn it sucks they won't be doing any SP games anymore.

arkard2335d ago

Agreed, I found d their games to be fun and enjoyable... To bad I seem to be the minority.

TGG_overlord2335d ago

Well, I haven't played all of their games, but "Nex Machina" is pretty darn cool imo.

BrianOBlivion2335d ago

I didn't read that. I've read that while they are planning to expand into multiplayer, the only thing they've decided to give up on is the top-down arcade shooter style of games because the last couple have sold in decreasing amounts.
Too bad for me as I've enjoyed most of their games. Now I feel bad that I didn't buy Matterfall but I just didn't like the addition of platforming into the mix.
I haven't read anywhere that those MP games wouldn't include SP.

TGG_overlord2335d ago

"I didn't read that. I've read that while they are planning to expand into multiplayer, the only thing they've decided to give up on is the top-down arcade shooter style of games because the last couple have sold in decreasing amounts."

- Ah, now I got what @TheOttomatic91 meant with "Damn it sucks they won't be doing any SP games anymore.". Well, to be fair, "Matterfall" isn't exactly one of their better titles...

Einhander19712334d ago (Edited 2334d ago )

Um don't expect anything good from these guys anymore.

Atticus_finch2334d ago

IDK what to expect. Me and my GF love HM hopefully they keep making couch coop games.
