The developers of the upcoming Battlestar Galactica MMO will be utilizing another famous franchise for an online game this year, as Bigpoint has announced plans to release The Mummy Online before the end of 2010.
Like most of Bigpoint's titles, The Mummy Online will be a free-to-play broswer-based massively multiplayer online game, playable only via the company's web portal at Bigpoint.com. The Mummy Online will put players in the role of adventurers in the mold of Brendan Frasier's character, allowing fans to explore environments and interact with characters pulled from the three Mummy films released by Universal Pictures since 1999.
Bigpoint appear to be developing a habit of releasing poor games based on big IP’s and it appears that habit isn’t working out following news of The Mummy’s closure. Bigpoint, also the developers behind the struggling Ice Age Online announced recently that The Mummy will be ceasing all services come today, October 15th.
Agreed, I had no idea either of these games ever existed. I wonder if the games would've been successful had people known they were out there.
The Mummy is the latest addition to the ever expanding MMORPG arsenal of Bigpoint games. Bigpoint are well known for clenching deals with some of the biggest franchises in history, recently purchasing the publishing rights to the highly anticipated Game of Thrones, adding to their previous title, Battlestar Galactica Online.
