Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter Review (DualShockers)

Jon Ireson Contributing Editor of DualShockers writes, "Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter is a dangerous and exciting world and gives a very genuine first person shooter feel while keeping the old fashioned first person storytelling style as well. This game is a high-definition remake of Serious Sam: The Second Encounter which debuted on PC in 2002. The original Serious Sam: The First Encounter was released in 2001 and was developed by Croteam as a way to showcase the game engine under the hood. It is very possible that Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter is one of the best story-driven First Person Shooters I’ve ever played, and given that this is a flooded genre, I’ve played thousands so it means a lot..."

There will not be a game in the FPS that is better put together overall for a long time but it does have a few shortcomings.

Pretty bold statement, I must say. I will need to play the game myself in order to make any judgment or even disagree. Serious Sam was always a good game. Would love to see how 'good' this one really is. Nice review.

Yes, strictly speaking about the story mode here though just so everyone gets me clear. ;)

The multi-player is pretty typical but the story mode will take you back and make you wonder why they don't make games like this anymore for FPS.

i want this game more than ever

Great review, but not my type of game, unfortunately.

I'm patiently waiting for this to come out on 360.

If you are up for a serious challenge then you will not be disappointment. This game will make you climb the Empire State Building and jump into a tub of pre-broken mirrors strategically placed to impale you just to relieve yourself from the frustration that is this challenge.

No noobs please....

I'm a pretty hardcore Serious Sam fan when it comes to it. I own the first 2 PC games, the Xbox game of the original which before HD I previously played through again on my 360, I have Serious Sam 2 for Xbox and picked it up later for PC, The Next Encounter PS2 spinoff game and Serious Sam HD FE for 360.

The only game which has ever got near to it in pure fun, chaos, number of enemies is EDF2017.

Damn, I should have gotten it when it was discounted on Steam.

Instead, I settled for Torchlight - a game that I am immensely addicted to.

Even though I don't like the idea of Farming Simulator, there aren't that many LAN games out there any more, and shooters seem to be forcing non-local matchmaking. It's great to see what I can play with my friends at a huge birthday party.

There are actually a few that we didn't include within this list and of course one could always turn to Classic games for LAN but it is frustrating not having local matchmaking for newer shooters.
